Always a Great Time at The Barrel House!…read more This is one of our favorite spots for great food and excellent service. The drinks are strong, and their happy hour is definitely worth it--but even outside of happy hour, the prices are very reasonable. The food is consistently delicious, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. Whenever we're in town, we make sure to stop by The Barrel House with my mother-in-law--it's become a bit of a tradition! The atmosphere is casual and laid-back, with plenty of outdoor and patio seating. There are even some games out back, which makes it a fun and family-friendly place to hang out. Highly recommend! They recently expanded their spot to include food now, which was a huge win. I had heard raving reviews about the tacos, so I wanted to be sure I tried them. They certainly did not disappoint. Each taco had a healthy portion of meat, along with fresh toppings and homemade tortillas (both flour and corn). The pork tacos were my personal favorite. Everything was a hit outside of the queso. It got so hard so fast and it was not standard cheese. When you went to scoop your chip, it kept cracking and was not flavorful. Each taco was about $5 (pricy end for the size of taco), but definitely worth it. Will definitely come back again.

Oil Horse is a true gift to Longview and a real gem in its own right. On a visit to Longview from…read moreout of town I stopped by one night after having tried their 1877 Irish Red at another restaurant, and was not disappointed. Their IPA is top notch, with a great, bright hoppy feel, and their amber was a great balance of a bit of sweetness and a bit of hoppy bitterness. I also had a taste of their Double IPA, which was excellent, but a bit high on the ABV for me that night! The rest of their menu looks great, too -- a lot of solid, classic styles, with a focus on really solid traditional brewing. I'm from Austin, which has a brewery on every street corner, and Oil Horse would be a strong contender here. The location itself is also phenomenal -- a beautiful corner shopfront with windows all around in an historic building, with a great interior and a stage for a band. The place was packed while an acoustic duo was playing and the vibe was great, and Michael behind the bar was a lot of fun to chat with and he was amazing at working the room, making sure everyone was happy and getting to know all his customers. I've known this storefront for years as it transitioned from one short-lived thing to another, but I've always thought something like Oil Horse should find a home here, and now they have. Longview has long deserved a good microbrewery, and Oil Horse has filled that niche with aplomb.
