Brooke used to cut my hair and she treated my thick, long, colored , Wavy/curly, huge mop of hair like a sculpture literally carving layers that cascaded perfectly throughout my head. I've had Heidi as my hair stylist for years now. She is one of the best precision cutters in the city (if not THE best). We've been through a 5-point Sassoon, undercut with a modern bowl, bob n bangs--and every single one has been excellent. Every time I get a full cut or even just a fringe trim people compliment her work. When people ask me where they can get a good cut, I recommend her without hesitation. I recently had the notion to go from box-dyed black to concrete grey. Heidi has never dyed my hair before but she was confident we could get it in one session. Nearly 7 hours later my color was lifted and toned to my dream shade. And she give me a cut that left me with relatively healthy hair. Granted, I am always open to more extreme styles than I originally intended. But that's only because I trust her. Whatever she does, it looks amazing. I'm so glad that she's found a home at Antonio. The space is clean, modern and convenient. They use Davines products and they are incredible. The OI Oil smells amazing has almost returned my hair back to pre-bleach texture! Have had a few great cuts in my 40-some years, including a perfectly shaped late-70s throwback from a stylist whose name I forget at a now-defunct salon in SoHo and a subtly blended tight-and-long from Ben at James Joseph in Boston. I'd count Avian's adaptation of the Keanu-Reeves-as-motorcycle-enthusiast cut among them. It's clean, casual, and a bit jaunty--perfect for late summer 2022 and hard to pull off with my fine hair. I've been going seeing Masumi at Antonio Salon for the past few years now and I would recommend it to everyone. She's been doing my bleach and tone and has come to understand my hair so well. I'm asian and have naturally dark hair that's really difficult to lift, but she makes sure that I'm comfortable each time I go. Shes super gentle too, which I need when getting a bleach and tone because my scalppppp but it's all worth it. She just gave me this haircut! They have a really mesmerizing chandelier. It broke down my resistance a little more every time I walked past and my hair felt shaggier. And, on the face of it, they really do have an impressive roster of Seattle Vidal Sassoon alumni. It's just that Antonio seems to be a corn crib for under socialized Vidal Sassoon employees. I had a consult, just a consult, in which I was told that my hair cut request "wouldn't even look good on a younger woman." And in which I was again steered in a different direction because I was a "more mature woman." I am not vain about my age at all but I'm 34 and I wear inane graphic t shirts and trainers. I think I was wearing a melting astronaut popsicle t shirt that day. Where did he get this? I think I can say with confidence that I'm the opposite of Julie Dench. When I explained that I like to keep my haircuts angular and like liberal use of the razor, he shook his head and said that we needed to do everything soft on me. Otherwise, it wouldn't be pretty. I think a stylist's job is to collaborate with you on what you think is pretty. So I read all the great reviews and decided to give it a try. The place is really nice and staff is super nice as well. I was very disappointed because I went in to simply get a touch up for my grays, nothing special or complicated. So my stylist looked at my hair and came back with a color mix that looked way too brown for my very black hair. I told her that and asked for it to be darker or my grays will not take the color. I feel that a stylist should look at your natural color and kind of determine that but... So she went back to darken it but at the end my grays are still there because the color was so much lighter. I paid $125+ tip only now to go somewhere else and have my grays colored again. Indefinitely won't be back or recommend this place but maybe you will have better luck. read more

So I was long overdue for a haircut and decided to treat myself a little instead of just going to a barber. I decided to make a last minute appointment at the Antonio Salon; i've been there before and decided to give it another chance. Now, I am no stranger to spending over $100 for a haircut. But this was a disaster. I get there 10 minutes before my appointment. I don't get to the stylist's station till about 10 after my appointment time, which is totally fine. I get a call and the stylist tells me to take it if I need, so I do. It was my boss calling and as we are chatting he comes back and tells me we need to get started and to get off the phone. I abruptly hang up. I respect people's time so i don't think much of it. I tell him I haven't had a haircut in about two months and I just want my sides cleaned up and a little off the top as I am keeping it long. Well, let's say the haircut was chaotic, he just went in and starting cutting everything off, not really concerned about the way i style my hair or what I had asked for. I have curly, frizzy hair and you can't just go in and go wild with the cuts or you end up looking like a Chia Pet (Pretty much how I look right now). The conversation was great, don't get me wrong he seems like a great guy. But, I soon realized he was in a rush to leave. It all made sense. The whole experience was rushed and my hair was a casualty. In addition to my day job, I am also a Men's Style Blogger so my appearance is important to me. I know it is hair and it grows back but I could not wait to run home so no one else could see what was going on with my hair. All in all, it seems making it to a happy hour is a lot more important than a client's hair. I don't discredit this Salon, I am sure it is one of the better salons in Seattle. When you're a busy lady like me, it's hard to keep your bangs bangin'. Translation: regular trims are required, which means you have to schedule something with your stylist every 3-4 weeks. While in Seattle, I was at least two weeks past my regular trim schedule and the fringe in front was looking rough. Really rough! Thanks to few free hours and recommendation from a friend, I was able to schedule a cut with Brooke while in town. Even better? Antonio Salon was within walking distance of my hotel! Originally I just came in for a bang trim, but having looked at myself in the mirror that morning, it was very clear that I needed more. Luckily, Brooke was available and willing to manage my entire mane! After a quick consult, she was off to work. About an hour later and some cute layers in the back, I felt like a new woman! No, really. Anyone who's a hair junkie will attest, a fresh shampoo and style makes anyone feel a million times better. Brooke did a nice, subtle job (nothing too crazy with a new stylist!) and I really appreciate her attention to detail. Cut + tip = $150, which is the going rate for any good cut in my neck of the woods. I was happy to pay, worth every penny. Upon moving back to Seattle from the East Coast one of my first moves was to call the salon I had previously visited to make an appointment with my favorite stylist, Masumi. After calling the salon and being told that she had moved away, and that they had no contact information for her, I was heartbroken! Nobody before or since has done such a perfect job on my hair, and visiting her was one of the things I looked forward to most about my move back to Seattle (sidenote: the corporate salon where she was previously employed lied to me about the circumstances of her departure, lied about their inability to contact her and invented a story about her referring clients to another stylist in the same salon. So, boooooo corporate downtown Seattle salons). After some google sleuthing I contacted Masumi and was informed that she was now working down the street at the lovely Antonio Salon on Virginia St. Walking into the salon was a breath of fresh air. Stylish design, a relaxed atmosphere, and most importantly, no DJ booth and no Derek Zoolander impersonators pressuring me into buying their overpriced products when I'm done with my haircut. This is how a salon should feel, like a salon, not some post-apocalyptic discotheque from the year 2115. As usual, Masumi did a perfect job on my hair. I'm horribly indecisive when it comes to fashion, so it's amazing when I can sit in the chair and trust someone to take control while also listening and responding to my insane requests. Over the years I have referred numerous colleagues, male and female, to Masumi and never have I heard a single complaint. Aside from her skills with hair, Masumi is herself stylish, cute and entertaining (I gather she's quite popular too). I come for Todd, it's true. I followed him when he was the director of Sassoon Salon and now he goes back and forth from L.A. to Seattle to work his magic. I have seen some amazing haircuts by other people (Masumi) who I would absolutely go to if Todd wasn't around. Sorry, Todd! But this shows what a great set of people that they have working here. The place is tucked away next to a parking lot and can be hard to miss as it just seems out of place so just look for the white brick. The inside is minimalist without being weirdly cold and new-ageyish. The receptionist will always get you something to drink and take your jacket. Since I usually like to embarrass Todd and make him work extra hard, I almost always run there so I look terrible and am very thirsty. Back to my new cut- I love it. I got it all chopped off. From the middle of my back to my ears and I LOVE it. Plus, I look a little hip, which I always appreciate. There really is just NO ONE that can do blowouts around the nation consistently well like The Dry Bar. Unfortunately Seattle doesn't have one. This was my third place to try a blowout from in Seattle from my last three trips. Each time they've been disappointing. I had faith that Antonios would be better as they had great reviews. The blowouts at Dry Bar (who is the BENCHMARK & PINNACLE of Blowout provider) are $45 or less. They last until I decide to wash it (easily 5 days with shine, volume, smoothness & bounce or curls). The "blowout" from here was NOT a blow out. It was a "blow dry" and took a total of 22 minutes in the chair (as opposed to 60+). The price...SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS FOR 22 minutes of a power dry and curling iron (ZERO round brush). The stylist was LOVELY & kind but the effort & execution was shockingly bad... As I told the person who checked me out this was a "fast food" effort for a fine dining price. The positives of the salon are this- * great location * very friendly staff (excluding owner) * pleasant decor * Kérastase Products The Negatives- * The owner blamed me for the lousy & unfulfilled service I received. * The grossly over inflated price for the level of service received, actually even if it was have been on point it is still extremely high. * The lack of training/experience for the stylist I had in the particular service I requested. The Unknowns- * The level of service for any chemical treatments or cutting. Those may be excellent. I didn't receive those services. So I cannot say, which I assume is their primary service. When I made my appointment I specifically asked for a "blowout" & asked how long it would take. They said +/-60 minutes. When the stylist asked me if I prefer round brush curls or curling iron curls I did say "curling iron". What I never imagined is that he would completely skip the blowout procedure! Which is typically 40+ minutes (depending on hair length & thickness) of intense round brushing while blow drying. The process of lifting the hair at the root & intensely round brushing each section until it is smooth & bouncy is what a professional blowout is. Often a blowout consist of 4-5 Velcro rollers at the crown of the head to provide the extra volume. It also includes a cool shot of air before the completion of each section of hair. Only after all of that is an electric styling tool used. This stylist did a pleasant wash & condition, added adequate products and then just set the blow dryer on high & used his fingers ONLY while waving the blow dryer around for about 15 minutes. He then took a large barreled curling iron and did a very quick curl & release. Before we started I mentioned my hair not holding curl as long lately as it normally did so he then proceeded to empty what seemed like an half can of hair spray in it & said "now it's not going anywhere". I knew better. Less than 30 minutes later there was nothing left but drab frizziness & a very annoyed customer. The front desk person called me back & was lovely. She did offer me a redo & begged me to accept it. The problem was (as they knew) I was a traveler only there for that night. There was no way I could have returned to accept it. I asked if I could simply send them a picture of what my result looked like by the time I got back to my hotel so they would understand why I was so upset for paying $75 for an abbreviated (less than a half hour) of service & didn't even receive the service I requested. Then came the kicker. The owner emailed me back and said he was sorry I didn't communicate properly with my stylist, but I could return for a redo. (AGAIN, HE KNEW I WAS NO LONGER IN HIS CITY!) That isn't an apology. That is blaming the customer. He had photos of my hair w an actual blowout and with the service they provided. I'm my opinion there was no question I looked like a frizzy troll, but he wouldn't acknowledge that point. He went on to tell me their price point was in line with the cost of their rent as they are located in downtown Seattle and rent is high. Once again, I am CERTAIN The Dry Bar in Manhattan's UPPER EAST SIDE pays a pretty penny for their salon location as well and yet they charge half the price while providing well beyond double the service. If it weren't for the dismissive response I would seriously have chalked this up to another stylist that feels since they are adequately (or even well trained) & experienced in cut & color just assumes they know how to do a blowout. Sadly, it's really not the case. There's an actual art to the process. An offer of a partial refund would have been the most fair way to handle. No such offer was agreed to. Leaving negative reviews makes me sad. Paying $75 for Troll-esque hair, then having to go spend another $100 on blow dryer, curling iron & hair product I didn't bring bc I was counting on the service being adequate makes me sadder. read more

I went in to get a partial balayage, after going 11 months the without one. I showed my stylist a picture of what I wanted and confirmed we could achieve something close. The style I was going for was a natural balayage with the very front pieces to be blonder. I mentioned several times I like a "cool" blonde. Since they cannot blow dry due to Covid, I didn't see the final results until I got home and blow dried my hair. I was shocked when it was dry, my hair had an extreme orange tone to it, and you could hardly see any separation of a balayage. It almost looked like I had gotten an all over color with orange/red dye. I immediately called a contact who is a hair stylist, and her first comment was that it looked like the stylist didn't let the bleach process, leaving it in the orange stage. I was extremely upset because I had a big life event upcoming in 2 days. I called the salon and they did agree to squeeze me the next day with the same stylist for a correction. I went in, explained my feedback, and again showed several pictures of what I was looking for. The stylist was rushed because she had a short time frame, and one point when she was shampooing she literally said she "forgot" about a chunk of foils she put in the back, meaning they processed much longer than the rest of my hair. After anyone stylist finished shampooing my hair(her next client showed up) I was on my way with wet hair. I went home and blow dried again, and revealed the worst color I have every received. My hair was completely dried, and was a bright yellow blonde color all over the top. The section in the back where she "forgot" the foils was a while blonde and broke off about 4 inches. I received a call from the salon that night and explained once again how awful my results were. They told me the owner would be calling and he never did. My stylist recently moved here, and after a rather awful experience at a place closer to home, I decided to follow her as well. First, Myam is phenomenal, always. My very first appointment, I felt like I'd made a new best friend, she just has that way about her. I have never had a bad experience with her, and it seems I'll be able to continue on with someone who not only cuts and colors, but teaches you tricks as well. My hair is thick and curly and tends towards the dry/frizz side, and she has managed to cut to my features and color to my tones every time, and with enough ease and explination that I am able to recreate it on my own. The atmosphere was lovely, the receptionist was immediately friendly and welcoming, and the waiting area is comfortable with very large windows (lots of light). The salon is small, and I love that. Just one, long center row that holds about 8 stylists in total, making for a more intimate atmosphere. My only complaint is minor, and a part of my own bad research. I came in for a balayage and a cut, and had about an inch worth of grow out from my last color. I'm getting older, I have a few grays, and those needed to be dyed at the roots. I was not aware that this would amount to a full cost color job. So when I was finished, I was paying for a balayage, a hair cut, and a full color, even though it was just the roots. So be sure to ask, if you're looking to get those grays matched! What I thought would total out around $300 ended up being $400, and I just wasn't prepared. I had been thinking about a pixie cut for months, maybe even years, and I knew exactly what I wanted and was therefore very picky when selecting a salon. I wanted a haircut like Jean Seberg's in "Breathless". Masumi knew exactly what I was talking about (she really listens), and gave me the cut of my dreams. I've never felt so much like myself. It's corny, but I almost feel like this haircut has made my life better, like I finally look exactly how I'm supposed to look. I love my hair now, and I always struggled liking it. I have had a botched balayage done before and she made me feel very comfortable that she was going do it right. She has impeccable customer service and down to earth, easy to get a long with person.
