If you're a fan of the $5 Footlong Ranchy Bacum Bologna Melt, this might not be the sub shop for you. This is one mean sammie. How have I never been here before!? Oh, because it's tiny and unassuming and hidden and closes at 7 pm. . . FIND IT. Do yourself a favor and get here, ASAP. Seriously. He's been doing this for 20 years and you can tell. We walked in 15 til 7 and were greeted warmly. After asking about the menu a bit we found out the meatballs are made in house. OK 2 large meatball subs it is! I've never been to Antonini's before, but I remember these meatballs. I've tasted them before. Every Christmas, my adopted bro's Roman Italian grandmother would make mason jars upon jars of red sauce with a big fat meatball in each jar and mail him a case of the jars. I was lucky enough to have some on occasion. This sub was so good, I don't think I've ever eaten anything so quickly in my life. I feel like I should tell you something about the sauce being good or that the bread was fresh or that there's a nice amount of provolone melty underneath keeping your bread from going soggy but not of that matters because. . . meatballs. I can't tell you how pumped I am that I finally stumbled into this place after 18 years of being oblivious to its existence. The Italian sub was absolutely flawless in execution. The tang of the peppers was balanced out with the sweet meats and the salt from the salami. The Italian bread has nice and soft in the middle with a slight crunch to the crust. I loved how sparse the place was. It was clear that they were here for one reason, making sandwiches. The banner "Quality is not an accident!" really shows off the great attitude this place has. They don't close out your tab and take payment until you are done eating. Still a walk-up service, but leaves you feeling a little bit you were eating at a friends house- like you can help yourself. They need to step it up and advertise this place! Just getting by is for suckers Anonini's, there are lesser subs making more money and sharing their talents with more people. Also- open up your blinds and let the sun in there a little bit more, and freshen up the place. I can't speak for the rest of the menu but the Italian was so great. Wow, I've lived in this area for more than a decade but had missed this place. Hands down, this is the best sub place in the Webster/Clear Lake area. As I understand it, the owner brings experience from the Mid-Atlantic (Philly/Delaware) in terms of quality meats and assembly. Upon advice, I've ordered the (small) Italian both of my visits, and the meats and toppings have been perfect. Not too much lettuce, great balance of other toppings nad cheese and what makes the sandwich, is the cherry pepper relish, which I've been told he gets from a source out of town. It's sweet and has a bit of a kick, nothing like you'll find in any other place. The bread is fresh, and I'm particular when it comes to my sandwich bread. The place itself is very unassuming. The marquee above the store just says "Subs" with the actual name on the glass lower by the door. The store name is not on the marquee by Highway 3 (Galveston Rd.). Usually just one kid behind the counter, plus the owner will jump back there (from his office desk near the back) if it gets crowded. The atmosphere is pretty much just tables and chairs and a sports radio playing in the background. Very basic, but I think that's what makes the place. Seems like the owner just wants to make some sandwiches and isn't into growing beyond what he has. The veggies are fresh, meats are sliced on site, and there is a grill for cheese steak style sandwiches (and also steaks and burgers). I'm probably going to try the cheese steak next go around. The small sandwich is under $6 plus chips are only 99 cents (seems like some places are charging like $2 these days). This is way better than you get at any $5 footlong place. I've got to work this into my rotation more, after two visits, I'm convinced this place cannot be topped. read more

I am in Webster for a week on business. After searching for a place to grab a good sandwich I came across Antonini's. My first trip I had to try their cheesesteak. I have had some of the best cheesesteaks in and around Philly, and believe me, this sandwich can hold its own with the best of them. While the roll wasn't and Amoroso roll, it was from a local Italian bakery and stood up to the steak, cheese and veggies. To be honest with you, the sandwich was so overstuffed, the added veggies were falling out as I was having my lunch. I would probably recommend minimizing items other than steak, cheese, and onions. However, I must say that the hot pepper relish that they serve is an absolute must all sandwiches. After speaking with the owner, he said the steak sub and the Italian were subs 1 and 1A. So on my next visit I had to order the Italian. It was completely over stuffed with delicious meats and vegetables. This was a fantastic sandwich and satisfied me in every way. The staff takes great pride in the quality of their product and I highly recommend visiting Antonini's for your next sandwich. If this place were any closer to me I would weigh 15 pounds more than I do now. Absolutely love this place. Great service, great food, and great people. read more

In what has become yet another reason to consider subway totally irrelevant in the Clear Lake area, I have recently discovered this magnificent gem that sits unassuming in an almost dead strip mall. Time has been very kind to Antonini's even though location hasn't. I've seen them there for years, and it's only recently I was able to work up the courage and appetite to roll the dice. I was confident that first meal would be good because A: It's really hard to screw up a sandwich (and though I say this some people actually manage to do just that) and B: It's been there for years, so it must be doing something right! I stepped in and automatically saw 2 good signs that filled me with confidence. 1. The place looks like a hardware store. It's a no nonsense, no "style", no "flair", straight up sit down and eat your damn food kind of place. You have to be pretty confident in the food you offer to not consider resorting to pleasing the woeful type of eater who cares more about where he/she's eating instead of what is being eaten. 2. A wizened old gentleman behind the counter who had a no-nonsense look about him. I could automatically tell that he's been doing this for years and that he takes his craft seriously. When we stepped in (I was dining with a good friend of mine who insisted we try it out) we weren't greeted with some rehearsed company greeting that was focus grouped to "perfection". We weren't greeted with some bloated statement that embodies the "concept" that they are trying to achieve. No , the usual annoying and sterile platitudes were not to be found. It was a simple, earthen, "Hey guys, sup?". Sure it's a minor detail, but it speaks volumes to me. Just by looking at him and hearing those first words I was filled with the confidence that I was about to have some kind of incredibly enjoyable experience. Flash forward to a fatter, full and more happy me. Yes it was just that. The sandwiches here are MAGNIFICENT. The meatballs in the meatball sub actually have a seasoned flavor to them. The turkey in the turkey sub is moist, but dry enough to accept and work with the flavors of the other ingredients. And then there are the two titans that battle for the title of signature sandwich. I speak of course of the Italian and the Philly Cheese Steak. It's impressive to have 1 dish that defines your cuisine and restaurant, but to have two diametrically opposed wonders competing for that is downright MADNESS. But I guess here madness reigns supreme! And when it's that damn tasty and reasonably priced, well lets just say I'll report for my straight jacket fitting next Thursday. read more

Mike, the owner came down here from Delaware and opened his first location on NASA Rd.1. That has probably been over twenty five years ago. He has since moved to this current location in Webster. I have had, I think almost everything on the menu Sub wise! I have never had a bad sandwich here! I started with the Italian Sub which you can't go wrong with. I've also had the Philly Cheese steak, the Meatball, The Turkey, and the Roast Beef. The Road Beef is absolutely Tops with the Turkey a close second!!! I love the Red Pepper relish they use on their sandwiches! The Roast Beef is cooked by them they're selves. It is cooked Rare and is really the best Roast Beef Sub I've ever had to date!!! I get it all the way with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, red pepper relish, mayo, and oil and vinegar. It's fantastic!!! I urge you try it, you won't be let down! But, the other sandwiches are all worth a try too!!! My second choice on the menu is the Turkey. It's very good itself! I haven't tried the sausage and pepper sub yet, but I! will first chance I get! I will add that they have a selection of chips and bottled soft drinks. I would like to see both locations add fountain Cokes!!! I like the idea of having my drinks over ice! Sandwiches were amazing and the food was prepared quickly. The only comments were the size of the restaurant (built more for take out than eating in) and the semi-nude pictures in the men's restroom. If I had brought my 2 young sons, I know one would have had to use the restroom and I would not want to have that conversation with them at this age. This place is pretty darn awesome. I have been looking for a decent sandwich shop since moving to this area and my fiancée and I decided to give it a try and we are very glad we did. The shop is located in a strip mall near the hospital. It was a little difficult to find, even with GPS. Basically it is on the same side of Galveston HWY as the hospital, but across the street. Hope that helps some of yall trying to find it! When you walk in, it is a typically old school Italian sub shop. There is memorabilia all on the walls and about 6 tables in the entire place. I can see where it may be hard to find a table when it gets busy. Their menu is a little small, but it has all of the traditional favorites. We decided to split the Italian combo. Along side the sandwich we got some Zapps crawtators and a coke. I think the total was about $12, a little pricey for the combination. The sandwich was made then and was ready in about 4 minutes. I couldn't believe the size of the thing. It was about 9" long and packed with goodies...ham, salami, provolone, etc. in addition, there is lettuce, tomato, a spicy pickled relish...smelled great. Once you get it folded in your hand and take a bite, it is so good. The bread is perfect for this type of sandwich, not too crunchy but not too soft. I ate the half of sandwich and was not terribly full, but not hungry at all. My fiancée ate only half of hers and we took the rest home. Overall, a great little sandwich place. The food was excellent. I do feel that the price was a little on the high side, but what can you do about that. I would definitely go back if I was around that area for lunch. read more

Houston native here, recently returned from a 15 year tour of duty in Philly. I popped into Antoninis when I went to the legendary EPO computer supply shop next door.* As soon as I walked in I knew Antoninis was something out of the ordinary. The smell of cured meats and fresh bread unique to Philly's delis is the first thing you notice. The place has the all-around feel of a Philly-style deli. I asked right away whether he was from Philly. I just knew. Of course, Mike is quick to point out he's from Delaware, not Philly. Another mark of authenticity! Mike's subs combine the best of the tri-state area (NJ-DE-PA) and the best of Texas. I ordered the Italian. From the tri-state area you get real Italian meats and cheeses and a spicy pepper mix that puts Antone's chow chow to shame. Also you get a guy named Mike preparing your sub. How often does the restaurant owner prepare your food? From Texas you get value and generous portions. For under $6 I got a massive "6 inch" sandwich on warm crusty bread, heaping portions of each specialty meat and cheese, and fresh condiments to match. It's also very Texas to find a gem like this in a random strip mall. I can't think of a better sub I've had here or there. Truly phenomenal! *TIP* Antonini's and EPO Webster make a great combo-trip. Bypass big box stores and buy your phone and computer accessories at EPO computer parts. This is their new location. It used to be across the street. I don't know why they don't have a yelp page, there's only one for Fondren. The staff are super friendly. They won't make you feel like an idiot, and they won't pressure you to buy junk you don't need. If you need a $2 wire, they will tell you that and then sell it to you. (The same stuff costs 5x-8x more at Walmart or Target.) Then take what you save on computer accessories, and buy some subs at Antoninis! Win-win-yum read more

This place is amazing. It gets 5 stars for the meatball sub alone! The meatballs come out of a slow cooker and are juicy balls of awesome. The bread. The bread is fantastic as well. Crispy on the outside soft on the inside. Service is also great. The two dudes, one of whom I believe is the Yankee owner, make you feel at home and are quick to take your order. Did I mention they have big red? I am from San Antonio, home of the Big Red bottling facility and my father was a distributer before he retired. Not many locations provide Big Red so this adds to the awesomeness. You can also get a variety of drinks not provided at most restaurants, including RC. Tried for the first time today. The cook doesn't write anything down and asked me multiple times if I wanted a 6" or footlong and if I was dining in or out. It wasn't busy so it was annoying. On to the Sub. Figured I would try the Cheesesteak. Wow talk about no flavoring at all in the meat. Very bland and not sure what type of Red bell pepper concoction they make but it has a little spice to eat. Also I can't stand places that don't have a soda/water fountain. You have to buy single drinks. Also the cook asked me if I wanted mayo and ketchup on it. What? Ketchup? Weird... So lets start off with me saying Philly cheese steak sandwiches has always been one of my fav choices if food. I was really hoping that I could find a place down here that could satisfy my cravings. Unfortunately, I was let down. And even worse let down by yelp. Bc it had such high ratings. I ordered a 6in and the bf a whole foot long, bc we really thought that it was gonna be great with the 4.5 rating. The sandwich was decent, but a sloppy mess. I guess there was too much juice,even though I found the meat a tad on the dry side. Weird. Anyways, everything fell off the bun and my bun was all soggy. Meat under seasoned. I hate when people start a review off by saying I wanted to love this place. Ok yes I'm gonna be that guy so let me just say it. I wanted to love this place. Ok right off the top, if I was only reviewing the Italian sub minus the cherry peppers this review would be a 4 out of 5 and possibly a 5 out of 5 homerun. That being said the name of this sub spot has steaks in the title. Therefore, I have to give a honest review based on both the Philly and the Italian sub. I read all the reviews on here and see that most of the less than favorable reviews were because of the Philly and most reviewers said it was bland tasting. I had the opposite experience. If this is how these subs are supposed to taste I definitely can't recommend it. Moving on to the cherry peppers. My daughter got them on the side which was smart. I was a big dummy and got both subs with cherry peppers(chili peppers) and soon realized I hate cherry peppers. That said, cherry peppers are sweet so it had nothing to do with the sour taste of the Philly. If you are not sure if you like cherry peppers make sure you get them on the side or without. Moving on to the Italian. The bread was great, vegetables tasted garden fresh, and the meat tasted like they killed the cow behind the sub shop. It's a phenomenal sub sandwich. I've been living in the area for 12+ years and working in the area for 9+ years. . I ordered the Philly cheese steak and wow...blown away. Great flavor, although the onions were a bit over done for my liking. The pepper relish is outstanding and the bread was great as it held in all of the juices from the monstrous quantity of meat. Id like to try a cold sub next time. Great small place and I'd much rather pay a bit more to to support this local small business over somewhere else where the food quality is lackluster at best just to save a couple bucks. Tried this place today for lunch after recommendation from a co-worker. Hands down one of the best sandwiches that I have had in the area. First the place is a little hard to find as it is just in the strip center with the titles "Subs" above the business. But once you find it! You won't forget it. Ordered the large cheesesteak which was probably enough for 2 people to eat. My co-workers ordered the small and that is a more reasonable size. The cheesesteak was amazing with a special pepper sauce that works just perfect with the sandwich. The decor of the place is simple with just small tables throughout. The place wasn't busy at all for going around noon and it being close to the Clear Lake Medical Center. Again, definitely one of the best sandwiches that I have had in the Clear Lake area. read more

Don't come here looking for authentic Philly cheesesteaks or ambience. This is a sub shop that serves good standard fare subs. The decor is from the 80s, the food is fine for what it is. Very limited seating. There is a cheesesteak sandwich that is not billed as a Philly and isn't one. Get past that and you will enjoy it. Lots of beef, grilled with onions, provolone cheese. It departs Philly at the point a vinegary pepper relish is added. I also asked for no ketchup. This is a neighborhood sub shop that is turning out decent lunch food and for my money wins out over a chain every time. It's not 4-star food, but if you don't approach every lunch as though it's the Last Super it's just fine. I won't drive across town to eat here. One word: BLAND. The wife and I stopped in and ordered one 12" meatball and one 12" Philly cheese; both to go, both very bland. The meatball was just the meat and sauce. I couldn't really taste either one, but at least it was palatable. The Philly, however, was a disaster. That sandwich was AT LEAST 50% onions, probably more. Every bite was a struggle, as it just treated like i was eating a mouthful of warm, soggy, oily, bland onions. No taste to the meat or cheese, or to the mushrooms we added. We will not be back. As an addendum, I called Antonini's last week (at 715 pm) to place this exact order for pickup. I was told they were closed, which confused me since their website says 8 pm. The man on the phone informed me that their Texas City location was the one open until 8, and proceeded to talk over me when I had more questions. Google does not have the hours of operation for this location, and Antonini's does not differentiate between the two stores on their website. It simply says they close at 8 pm. Even with the rude person on the phone and the off-putting exchange I wanted to try this place because of all the great reviews. Never again. read more
