Turkey Sandwich all the way - Husband liked
BJ L.

Really good sandwiches. Service was fast and correct. The place was close to a medical district so it was very convenient.

I wanted to love Antonini's, especially since they've been featured on The Texas Bucket List, but the food was a bit underwhelming for me. My friend recommended this place and warned me about the sign. The Antonini's sign is actually on the window; the main sign that is visible from the street just says "Subs." It's easy to pass if you're not paying attention. The restaurant is small and kind of a hole in the wall. I was sort of confused on the ordering process, because there's not a designated area to place your order. The owner told me that once I knew what I wanted, just shout it out. It's super casual and laid back for sure. I ended up ordering a small turkey sandwich with mayo. I had to wait a few minutes as they were working on a couple of orders ahead of me but it didn't take too long. The sandwich was very filling and the portion of turkey was very generous. I did like that the turkey was sliced thin. The sandwich could have used more mayo on it. My friend said she loves the spicy relish, but I didn't get any on my sandwich. It was a bit dry though and some extra mayo would have helped. Although the food didn't blow me away, the overall experience was fine and I would give Antonini's another try.

I don't know if I came in at a bad time or what but the service was subpar and the food was not something my husband and I could eat. The meatballs seemed old and the other sandwich was just oiled and plopped on. I tried the meat from the steak and it was tough and again seseemed old. I remember coming here years ago and it was a decent sandwich. Now it just seems like there isn't much care. $35 dollars just down the drain.

They have the best subs hands down. If you get a large it will feed a small army, just so you know.

Pappa Geno's - #1 combo

**This is a 3.5 Star review.**…read more So, I'm not a huge fan of Disco Fries (poutine with a slab of cheese), but when I saw it on the menu, I knew this place must be legit. I lived on the Jersey Shore and traveled frequently to Philadelphia. I've done the Pat's vs. Geno's thing (they're both delish). I've had plenty of cheesesteaks at WaWa (Google it) and many roach coaches along the Eastern Seaboard. What most people don't get is the bread. The bread should be soft and chewy, and Pappa Geno's does a good job with that. The meat in an original cheesesteak is supposed to be cheap, thinly sliced and quickly grilled. Tender. Greasy. Wonderful. Pappa Geno's does a good job with that too. But -- there's enough black pepper to float a battleship! And there's nothing authentic about that! None of the original Philly cheesesteak joints empty half a can of black pepper onto their meat. Though I enjoy black pepper, my crew (including my Yankee wife) had some issues. Yo, Pappa Geno's! Enough already! Tone it down! We can add our own black peppa! (Still, this is an outstanding sandwich, as far as my taste buds are concerned.) Fries here are meh, but I like them because they warm up nicely in the toaster oven. The Disco Fries? Spot on with even the best diners along the New Jersey Turnpike! If you are a displaced Garden State or Eastern PA person, this joint might warm your soul. If you're a Houston person looking for a taste of the Northeast, you might well enjoy this place. Either way, tell them "Hey! Ease up on the throttle with the black pepper!" You're welcome. ;-)

I was having a moment last week after consecutive days of leading returning staff orientation and…read moreprofessional development for our therapists before the start of the school year. I toyed with ideas of the most non nutritious food to order because I felt I deserved it. Something comforting. I decided on a Philly cheesesteak and fries. This was my first time ordering from Pappa Geno's, but I have considered it before. I was going to order from Miller's Cafe because I like theirs, but I get much more from Pappa Geno's. I like that their cheesesteaks are traditional footlong size on a soft hoagie. The Pappa Geno's steak and cheese was filled with thinly sliced steak, melted cheese and mayo. I added mushrooms to mine. They wrap it up in foil paper to keep it nice and warm. If you're really hungry, you can eat the whole thing. If not, you can eat half of it and save the other half for later. The meat was seasoned and on the moist side compared to others. I've been to both rival cheesesteak places (Geno's and Pat's) in Philly, and I thought this was a nice alternative for Houston to have. I think I still prefer the thinly sliced steak flavor from Miller's Cafe. The side of fries are crispy with almost a breading on the exterior. Same fries as Piper's Cantina, if you've ever been. I'm not that into breaded fries like these, but it was good and was a large portion. The sandwich itself is on the pricier side but a decent portion. I'd like to try their other Philly cheesesteak options or add hot oil peppers like the Wicked Philly. Pappa Geno's is a great option if you want a more authentic Philly cheesesteak fix.
