This place is great, it's right off the highway and always spotless. Everyone is friendly and it's attached to a pizza pub. I'll be back.

I invited family here for the first time over the weekend, had a great memory of this place from…read morewhen I was a child. They were very friendly at the front desk at check-in and while we were staying, the swimming spot was nice the views were great. Friendly restaurant. Mostly friendly staff. The showers for camping were musty though, would suffocate you in mildew smell while u shower and your only other option is the other ones closer to the campsites which I wouldn't even step into. Definitely no bare feet in either shower and make sure you don't touch the walls. The float was super fun and beautiful, the boat guys were nice until our last morning, we hadn't even checked out yet let alone there was no info on a checkout time and were not near home or know the area much. We figured we would let the kids swim one last time before heading out and get some fishing in, we were all packed up. My children and I floated down the rapids and caught ourselves at the sand bar of Dawt Mill that we were just staying at. One of the boat dudes asked if i was staying at Dawt mill I said yes but we were checking out today. He then said well then you need to get the hell off our sand. right to me and my children. I got upset and said some words to the guy and asked his name for being so rude. He then told me none of my fucking business. I got out on the other side of the water walked up to the front desk. The guy had already ran up there with his buddy and told front desk whatever he told them. The front desk had no manager on site at first then the lady proceeded to say she was the assistant manager but wouldn't give me her name or the boat guys name. She gave no eye contact and treated me like a pest, She then said checkout was at 11am so just shrugged her shoulders about how he acted, and then said "that's not what she heard" and then rudely said sorry we've been getting a lot of ppl not staying here going on our sand so he was probably just frustrated. Which is not my problem when he made me feel so unwelcome and uneasy, ruined my last morning and we weren't even hanging out on the sand we just got off the rapids there cuz it was easier with my children in stow. I didn't think I'd be so unwelcomed not even an hour after the checkout time. After not being able to assist me properly she called the boat guys manager who then said that it should've been okay for us to swim there since we were just there staying out of the way and the guy just probably didn't remember me and that he was sorry for what happened etc, I said thankyou for the sorry and consideration and I was glad there was actually someone with customer service around, but we just loaded up and left and not sure if we will ever be back. There is too many other places available on the North Fork River to be explored.

Even though it was the day after Christmas and they had no other guests, the owners, Mark and Dixie, were still nice enough to open up their B&B to us. The drive to get there from North Springfield was beautiful - very pastoral. This area, just outside of Rogersville, is called Compton Hollow. I was a little surprised when we pulled up to see that the B&B itself is in a building with metal siding and roof. However, the inside is as warm and cozy as you would ever want, with hardwood floors, beautiful wood trim, a nice little table for eating or playing games, and a large comfy couch for visiting, watching TV and movies (they have a vast library) or listening to music. Mark gave us a tour, and the rooms are all well decorated and appointed. Each has a country feel, but they all very slightly on different themes. We stayed in the Panther Valley Room, which seemed to be the most romantic. It had a huge and very comfy king bed, a two person air tub, as well as a full bath with a shower. There was bubble bath and many other personal care items provided, plus a bowl of chocolates. The building is built on a hillside, so you enter on the upper floor. Downstairs, there is a huge, beautiful kitchen where Mark makes huge, beautiful breakfasts (and sometimes dinners too). There's also a large dining table and space for groups to gather, as they often host quilting and scrapbooking retreats. We had very limited cell service on our Verizon phones (which was a good thing for helping us to unplug), but the free wi-fi service seemed very solid for the hour or so that we used it during our stay. The weather was cold and rainy, so we did not get out and enjoy the 40 acre property during our visit, but we did see that there is a nice big wooden deck at the back of the building that looks into the woods and is used for weddings. Mark said that they are working on creating trails through the property for visitors to enjoy. Mark and Dixie are the nicest folks you'll ever meet. We chatted with them at breakfast, and it was like talking with old friends. I loved everything about this special place.

From the moment we arrived we were impressed with the facilities and ambience at this B&B. We came in after dark and had no trouble finding it with the help of Google maps. We were greeted by Mark and his wife Dixie who were lovely, welcoming and very helpful! My wife and I enjoyed a complimentary spritzer as we soaked in the hot tub and later enjoyed a movie while laying in the comfortable bed. I woke up to the smell of coffee brewing, (my favorite way to wake up), and our breakfast was simply delicious! I give this place five stars for an overall relaxing and enjoyable experience!!!

But here's the thing: Ava…read morecan only support one motel, so they've got the market and no review will make them change anything. My most recent stay had a room that smelled funny. I think a smoker had been in there before me and they didn't figure out how to truly get the stink out. My sheets also had stains on them. The extra electric outlets on the table in the rooms are loose and don't support power cords well. That is the only other way to charge items, other than wall sockets. The outside doors have been broken in some way every visit. Once, the side door wouldn't close. This time, that same door wouldn't open from the outside. Breakfast has improved since my last visit.  The prepackaged breakfast pastries were dry and hard, and the muffins they have now are soft--so I appreciate that. The coffee is solid and they have name brand cereals and cold milk ready.

I called on May 17th to make a reservation. At that time I was asked if I wanted a first floor…read moreroom or 2nd floor room. I said at that time a 1st floor because my husband was traveling with his elderly mother. When my husband arrived at the Hotel on May 24th he is told they will be on the second floor. No attempt was made at that time to get us on the first floor. On Saturday I called the hotel to talk about this. I talked to a lady named Janice who has been nothing but the best in dealing with me. She informed me she could see on the computer that we were suppose to be in a 1st floor room and had someone called her on Friday night she could have put them in a room on the first floor. Janice told me that her boss would be in on Tuesday but she would send him a message to call me back on Saturday. I never received a call back. I called back on Monday to once again talk to Janice who informed me she had sent her boss the message but I told her he hasnt called me. She would leave him a new message. No call back. I called back this morning to try to talk to him to be told he was actually at the hotel all day on Monday. I am also told by Janice that looking at the account it showed I was first to be in room 103 then to 109 then to 203. I am still waiting to hear back from the boss. If you arent going to honor the customers preference when they checked in on time then why are you asking? If a customer has a problem with the hotel good luck getting any help because it seems the boss dont like talking to customers, This just started as an irritation but the complete disregard from management has me wanting a full refund. This could have been handled in one phone call and apology but when the owner dont want to call and talk to a customer there is a problem. Up until now this was the go to hotel when in Ava.

I've probably been there 10 times over the past 20 years. Prior to Echo Bluff being built, we stayed at various places in Eminence (Rivers Edge, various B&Bs). The accommodations were always Spartan and it was almost impossible to find any restaurants that offered anything more than "Fried something" or hamburgers. All that has changed with Echo Bluff State Park Lodge. The Lodge has accommodations that are orders of magnitude better than what can be found in Eminence and the on-site restaurant has really good food and a menu that is large enough that one could eat several different meals at the Lodge without having to repeat and entree. There is a beautiful creek behind the lodge (about 150 yards) that you can put your lawn chair in, sit back and enjoy the cool stream water and the absolutely gorgeous view of the Bluff.

At first, there was a bit of a disappointment as we were supposed to have a top floor, and due to an error we got the downstairs. It ended up being okay as we still had a lovely deck to take in the park views. And our upstairs cabin neighbors were pretty quiet. The main building of the lodge is so rustic, yet modern with a restaurant, nice gift shop, fireplace and a large outdoor deck. The staff was lovely and so helpful. The cabin itself had a small kitchen, 3 bedrooms, one bathroom, deck and living room. For 3 of us, we were very comfortable. I'd have to say the best part of the cabin was sitting out on the deck at night listening to crickets, watching fireflies, and seeing the stars. We lucked out with great weather so were able to enjoy hiking trails within the park, evenings sitting at the creek near the bluffs and pick up from a local rafting company for a river float. The lodge also has the main "hotel" with traditional rooms but I'd highly recommend the cabins for a quieter stay. They're just a short walk away from the main lodge. It was a truly magical and memorable experience here at Echo Bludd.
