I invited family here for the first time over the weekend, had a great memory of this place from…read morewhen I was a child. They were very friendly at the front desk at check-in and while we were staying, the swimming spot was nice the views were great. Friendly restaurant. Mostly friendly staff. The showers for camping were musty though, would suffocate you in mildew smell while u shower and your only other option is the other ones closer to the campsites which I wouldn't even step into. Definitely no bare feet in either shower and make sure you don't touch the walls. The float was super fun and beautiful, the boat guys were nice until our last morning, we hadn't even checked out yet let alone there was no info on a checkout time and were not near home or know the area much. We figured we would let the kids swim one last time before heading out and get some fishing in, we were all packed up. My children and I floated down the rapids and caught ourselves at the sand bar of Dawt Mill that we were just staying at. One of the boat dudes asked if i was staying at Dawt mill I said yes but we were checking out today. He then said well then you need to get the hell off our sand. right to me and my children. I got upset and said some words to the guy and asked his name for being so rude. He then told me none of my fucking business. I got out on the other side of the water walked up to the front desk. The guy had already ran up there with his buddy and told front desk whatever he told them. The front desk had no manager on site at first then the lady proceeded to say she was the assistant manager but wouldn't give me her name or the boat guys name. She gave no eye contact and treated me like a pest, She then said checkout was at 11am so just shrugged her shoulders about how he acted, and then said "that's not what she heard" and then rudely said sorry we've been getting a lot of ppl not staying here going on our sand so he was probably just frustrated. Which is not my problem when he made me feel so unwelcome and uneasy, ruined my last morning and we weren't even hanging out on the sand we just got off the rapids there cuz it was easier with my children in stow. I didn't think I'd be so unwelcomed not even an hour after the checkout time. After not being able to assist me properly she called the boat guys manager who then said that it should've been okay for us to swim there since we were just there staying out of the way and the guy just probably didn't remember me and that he was sorry for what happened etc, I said thankyou for the sorry and consideration and I was glad there was actually someone with customer service around, but we just loaded up and left and not sure if we will ever be back. There is too many other places available on the North Fork River to be explored.

We went for dinner and will never come back again. The food was bland, unseasoned, overcooked and undercooked. How is that possible?? Everyone got a ribeye steak between Med Rare and Med Well, and it ended up coming out Rare to Well Done. The service was uninviting and unwelcoming. Those Trout Poppers were almost cold and contained no trout. Overall, I'm just disappointed. I hope that someone from Gaston's reaches out, because when we put a complaint in, they didn't seem like they even cared. I will post a follow up if they do respond to me, because it appears they only respond to positive review.

(I'm torn on whether to write a review for the other resort as I don't want others to suffer our issues, but I hate to see small businesses fail, I'm still debating). Now to Fish and Fiddle. While sitting in Urgent Care I did a search on Google for another resort and I decided to contact Fish and Fiddle. I called Mike and told him of our circumstances and all the preventative actions we performed to remediate any infestation. Mike told us to come on out and my wife agreed to give it a chance (she was very apprehensive). Instantly upon meeting Mike, my wife was put at ease. Mike, Denny, Sue, and Jerry went above and beyond all of our expectations to make our remaining vacation a success. My wife and I consider them FRIENDS that will be with us the rest of our lives due to their efforts in accommodating us. We have already started making plans for our return trip. As for the facilities, the pool, the game room are outstanding (I enjoyed the pool table and card games). The response to any questions that arose were answered immediately and our cabin had everything needed to make our stay perfect. If there was something we did need, Mike, Denny, or Sue found it for us. In closing, for a family that has only been running a resort since June 2022, all I can say is, "You will not find a better set of Hosts any where you go. my wife and I thank Mike, Denny, Sue, and Jerry from the bottom of hearts! We wish and pray for their success at this amazing resort they have taken on! We love this place and the amazing people who run it.
