The location is just off the river, so you can walk down and fish yards from your room. The main drag of Cotter is only a 5 minute driver or so, and I went there for breakfast at White Sands (excellent food) before heading down to the river. Stayed here in December, so it was cold. Not a lot of people though, and the fishing was excellent as usual here. Caught a bunch of fish before heading home. Bottom line, this is a solid spot to sleep, shower, and wind down from a busy day of fishing. Nice room, comfortable bed, and great location.

Their top guide is a little arrogant, but knows how to find the trout and will drift fish rather than anchor, which was nice. Would I return? Probably. However, I'd make most of my meals in the cabin and just do a dinner in the restaurant. One thing that's nice is they will cook your catch in the restaurant and prepare to your specifications.

The big open communal spaces are fantastic - the living room, which also includes rustic picnic benches for dining & the big open kitchen has huge, dual refrigerators and lots of prep space. They have every kitchen accessory that you could need. I love that they have coffee at every entrance and in different locations around the hotel. Great hosts who provide lots of local dining and activity information. Commercial hotel is a must if you're staying in or around the Cotter and White river or Buffalo River area! Or just make a stop over and make sure you take a tour of big Springs Park, a dip in the swimming hole or a walk across the bridge or breakfast at the Sands. They had great breakfast and lunch specials, and dinner was affordable and tasty too. Home made pies were a specialty of the house. Prices were very reasonable. A change in ownership, in my opinion, resulted in a decline in food quality and service. Although there was still some pretty decent food being served, the prices started to climb and menu offerings became more limited. The last few times I ate there the food was just so-so. You could do worse for lunch, but it's not worth going out of your way for. I've noticed the crowds aren't there anymore either.

BTW, the previous post has nothing to do with the White Sands Motel. The White Sands Motel (now Cotter Trout Lodge) does not own the White Sands Restaurant. But I do know all the locals eat at the White Sands Restaurant. I live one block from the motel and recommend both the NEW (remodeled) motel AND the restaurant.

I was fooled by the booking.com rating. The hotel is of the inexpensive variety but a lot better…read moreones are not much more. Two stray dogs joined us in our room. The tv had no remote or cable box. After an hour of the pleasant maintenance crew attempting a fix he was sent away . I was able to get one station to work. The smoke detector is not on its space in the wall but on top of the clothes rack and not functioning. The refrigerator was not plugged in . One must chose between the fridge or mice microwave. The towels feel like sandpaper . The staff are pleasant .
