Found this place wandering around. I couldn't get internet so couldn't check it on Yelp. Service was good and prompt. Food was ok, not bad but not great. We had filet with mixed vegetables and swordfish with a salad. Frankly was hungry at the end. The filet was cooked medium. I liked how it was done though I wasn't asked how I wanted it. It was tender but lacked flavor. I had to add salt and pepper which made it much better. The vegetables, mostly zucchini, were cooked perfectly in olive oil. The swordfish was a bit strong in flavor so not that fresh. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We chose indoor because it was a bit cold and all the tables outside were taken. read more

Was strolling through the neighborhood a little bit before noon and people were beginning to have lunch. This spot was in a quiet corner where there wasn't too much foot traffic. The menu looked good and were seated right away. Ordered some wine along with my gnocchi, which was delicious! Whatever truffle sauce it was, I'm now a fan. Staff was attentive and service was quick. not sure where to start but I give this place an A+++ this is a small, cute n very charming place w/ great classic Italian ambience! Service is impecable! We came here during our trip to Rome from a recommendation of a friend who used to live right in the area. It is a small but cute authentic Italian restaurant, which is exactly what we wanted to come to Rome to find. They have outdoor seating as well but it was too cold when we went so we sat inside. The staff is amazing! So welcoming and just so warm, it was nice to get good service. They recommended a great bottle of wine that we ended up ordering 2! Food: The mozzarella is a must!! I got the truffle gnocchi which was out of this world, my husband got the penne arrabbiata which he said he loved. We also ordered the Ox tail which they said was a fan favorite and it definitely did not disappointment. Meat fell perfected off the bone, it was delicious. They also don't understand a lot of English since I ask for my chicken not to be overlooked when ordered, I took a bite found that it was overlooked and dry. I asked them to take it away and they wanted to try once again and put the very SAME piece of chicken right back in the grill and cooked it right into oblivion. The restaurant is located on an atmospheric street in Centro Historico near Piazza Navona. It was really charming to dine alfresco here. For lunch we shared one fried zucchini flower appetizer and one mixed grilled vegetable (pepper, eggplant, zucchini) appetizer. The friend zucchini flower was delicious, in a light and crisp batter. For my main, I had the Octopus with Potatoes and he had the Tuna. The octopus was a bit over cooked. The liter of house white wine lacked body and was astringent. This was the only place we went to that had a line of people waiting to get in, those without reservations....and the waiters would go outside to bring them drinks and snacks while they waited. I ate the best carbonara of my life at this place. I tasted the lamb dish as well and it was tender and juicy. My second plate was a very Roman dish, veal meatballs and white beans in a tomato sauce - so good and garlicy - I loved it. The red table wine was delicious as well. Wast of your time in Rome. Tried this place because the recommended restaurant nearby has tripled its prices. We had both 2 courses. 1st carbonara the bacon was like stone so after getting al the bacon out we could eat the rest. The pasta was really not fresh, I guess directly from the supermarket nearby, but ok we could live with that. Second course was Chicken with pepperoni. The chicken was so dry I had to send it back because it was to tough to chew on. It came back frome the kitchen with an enormous amount of tomato sauce but with the same chicken. And when the chicken came back the also bought some bread. (for what do you need bread during the second course??). We taught this was an apology but it was charged even though we haven't eaten from it. After a quick discussion the took it of the bill. We also had salmon which was way overcooked to. We had dinner here our first evening in Rome. This was just a few steps from our apartment and we decided to give it a try. The service was friendly and attentive, but the food lacked flavor and a couple of dishes may not have been cocked through. I had the Cacio e Pepe and the past was not cocked enough. I know that pasta dishes in Italy are served a little more "al dente" than in the US, but mine was too "al dente" even for Italian standards. We also ordered the Carbonara and the sauce was not cooked enough as it tasted like raw eggs. Perhaps the chef needs to go back to culinary school. We were the only ones in the restaurant, so the excuse of being rushed because the house was packed is not an option here. We were a party of 8 and out of the eight dishes, perhaps one was salvageable. We never went back in the 14 days we spent in Rome. read more

Antica Taverna is one of my favorites in Roma. Paolo, the owner is simply one of the nicest person I know, always ensuring you get an outstanding experience. Food is delicious and very affordable. During the summer, I go there to simply get an antipasto misto della casa, which is just a feast of its own. Fagioli, spinaci, verdure, zucchini, mozzarella di buffala, prosciutto, and it goes on and on. Top it with some fresh white wine from Napoli or Puglia and your set for less than 10 euro a person. You can just seat, relax and enjoy one of these warm spring summer evenings where Rome is just magical. read more

We stumbled upon this place after the one we were looking for was closed and lucky we did! The pasta was the best we have had in Roma. We ordered the Lasagna and gnocchi - both of which were exceptional! My partner then decided as the first meal was so good he would have another and ordered the carbonara. The penne was a little hard but the sauce was rich and had great flavor. House wine was great and we even got a smile from our waiter which we have found is hard to come by here! Ate dinner here with my wife the first night in Rome. Hotel suggested someplace a little further, but our jet lag kicked in and this was close. My pasta pomodoro was not - it was pasta in a heavy tomato sauce and nothing like the light pomodoro expected. Wife's saltimbuca was okay, veal was very thin, sauce average. We went here based off the other Yelp reviews, and I have now realized that everyone else here on yelp who claim this is the "best Italian food ever" or "omg best meal of my life" are a bunch of tourists who are probably comparing this to their "favorite Italian" restaurants back in America (Olive Garden, CPK, Macaroni Grill). Well, I'm going to set the record straight: Do not eat here. It's your run of the mill tourist restaurant, that probably had one person write a review and the rest followed like sheep with praise. The food was less than mediocre. Pasta that tasted less fresh than a bag of frozen Trader Joe's pasta. It was soggy, tasted like paper napkins, lacked any seasoning or flavor. The bacon in my spaghetti alla amatriciana was dry and hard as rocks. Terrible terrible food, so much better food can be had in Italy, I question the sanity and taste buds of everyone else here claiming this was an "amazing find" If you consider yourself a discerning foodie and have eaten at michelin starred places etc, and are perusing Yelp reviews to find somewhere good to eat, I'll save you time and money by telling you to ignore the praise everyone else here is giving this place. Three stars with an extra one for being open on Christmas night, as well as open more hours than many other places in the neighborhood that open for dinner at 7PM. Always good to have a go-to restaurant for any time, not just "official meal times." Ate here twice and food was very tasty Italian fare. What a disappointment after reading all the good reviews. This is the first time I've read good reviews on qype and had a bad experience. For starters we had fried cod and fried zucchini flowers stuffed w anchovies and cheese. The batter was really thick and greasy. It tasted ok but was way too greasy. Mains were spaghetti bolognese and 4 cheese pizza. the spaghetti was well seasoned but not much meat in it. The pizza came swimming in grease from the cheese. The cheeses were all mixed up and nice. The base was thin and crispy BUT not cooked through properly. IT WAs LIKE EATING raw pasta! I tried to peel the cheese off and as it was too salty to eat on it's own, I had it w the bread that we got w our meal. The dessert was nt any better. We shared a 'homemade' tiramisu. It was a 5x5cm square of sponge fingers and tasteless cream served w 2 giant blobs of more tasteless cream. The whipped cream was like shaving foam. Thick and fluffy but not tasting of either cream or mascarpone. Just really thick like it had some kind of stiffener in it. Wine was ok, not that great. Staff was quite friendly. Best place I have eaten so far in Rome, excellent food and service and good prices. We went a Friday night, at around 11:00 pm, starving, after going to the summer nights event at Castel Sant'Angelo. Splendid little place about a 12 minute walk west of the Pantheon. My wife and I had the cacio e pepe and spaghetti bolognese. Both to die for. Under €10 apiece. Greeted with little gratis glasses of prosecco instead of "what will you have to drink while you're deciding?", which I loved. Highly recommended.
