My mother had a very disappointing experience while trying to return an item here today. She brought back a dress she ordered online that was never worn--and to be clear, it was an online order received without a tag attached--yet the employee immediately accused her of trying to return a worn item. The way this was handled was honestly embarrassing. Instead of asking questions or trying to help, the employee was rude, dismissive, and made assumptions in front of others. It felt unprofessional, unnecessary, and very uncomfortable for her. I understand stores have policies, but there's a respectful way to communicate with customers. This interaction left a very negative impression. That said, I do want to thank the store manager for stepping in and helping to resolve the issue. read more

I love this Anthropologie store, it's not like all of them because their assortment of clothes is just amazing and they have shoes! I really like the shoes with their nice adornments and charms, and very whimsical ways to decorate them. I got very inspired by visiting this store, as everything is super clean, organized, and you know exactly what kind of brands. I absolutely love the customer service from the, always kind, associates at this location. Throughout the years, no matter who approaches me or who I approach, any associate interaction I've had has been pleasant and even incredibly helpful. I will say the store is large, but it still does not carry everything so I have been disappointed over the years looking for specific items that are not in store. Some items will show they are in store at this location online, but the location won't have it. Luckily, many associates have helped me by ordering items for me or putting items on hold for me at other locations. Again the service is fantastic, but the stock is usually hit or miss. I shop there often when I'm in the neighborhood, it is one of my favorite stores. Most of the sales people are nice but one day I had one that was snooty and said she wasn't going to sign me up for their account because it would take her too long to do it. I told her I travel a lot and go to their other stores when I travel. She said it must be nice that you can travel and ignored that u wanted to sign up for an account. I felt I wasn't important enough for her to help. I work for a major airline and I felt like I wasn't worth her time. Needless to say I went back two weeks later where a nice sales person took the time to sign me up for their buyers account. It took less than 2 minutes and now I look at their website online. Fabulous fashion. Very affordable "perfumes" with fun fragrances. I like to cruise along the kitchen area where you can find some great deals. I love Anthropologie, I especially love going into the store to shop. Usually, the sales reps on the floor will take the clothes you collect and go open a fitting room. I'm not sure what's happened over the past couple of years, but this wasn't the case going in on Saturday, October 12th around 11am PST. The women in the dressing room were sooo helpful and very sweet. They helped me figure out an outfit to wear for an upcoming occasion. Everything was fine and dandy, but once I got into the checkout line, things started to change. When I was called up to the counter, the woman (Sales Associate: 348841) start off nice. She started ringing up my chosen items, and when I saw the price for a top (that I would only wear once) I was surprised and asked her to remove the item. I didn't look at the price beforehand but realized I didn't eat to purchase an expensive ($129) top to just sit in my closet. Her mood shifted, but she continued scanning. I then let her know I had my birthday discount that I'd like to use on the clothing items, additionally, I had picked a candle for a gift. The candle was selected as 20% off as well, but the cashier insisted to let me know that somehow.. this candle.. would be final sale. Final Sale. I was so confused as to why she would feel the need to tell me something that was't true. It was not a sales item. I was already getting pissed off with her. I just wanted to use my birthday discount one the clothes. I wasn't trying to steal the candle by using an additional discount. She grabbed the phone out of my hand starts scrolling to "verify" my code. It was so unbelievable, I wish I was making this up. Telling me that I would't be able to use my friggin code, and this isn't the first time this place would do this on my birthday discount. She then slide my phone on that rough counter, scratching my camera lenses. I'm paying for my things, she bags my stuff, purposely excluding the piece that started all this.. the candle!! No wrapping, no tape, just left it on the counter as if it were a go back item. I had to blatantly ask her to please put tape on it so the lid wouldn't get lost. I'm so bothered by her actions and attitude. The sales reps are so nice, getting you to spend hundreds of dollars. But continue to be unbelievably rude and have this persona as if they ow the clothing chain!! Are they investors of the store?? Why do they accuse everyone that goes in as a thief. Some of these women somehow believe they are entitled to work at this retail store making minimum wage. It's almost a power trip for them as they stand behind that counter. I often come here for special occasion dresses as they usually have a pretty wide selection of styles on hand that need minimal to no tailoring. Mornings are the best times to visit to avoid long lines and to have an easier time browsing as it can get pretty crazy. I love shopping here and have always had great service. Today was different. I went in to simply return a pair of brand new pants with the receipt on my email on my phone and the tag still attached. Due to some new policy the woman the I first spoke with flat out refused to take it back or even exchange it since I did not have a paper receipt. I did what I never want to do and actually asked for a manager (I know.... But I didn't know what else to do). The manager was nice enough to give me store credit but I felt just awful leaving the store. I felt like I was being treated like a criminal despite being a regular customer with an active account. They also told me if I ordered online then I had to go and print the return label before they would take it back in the store (I went back and asked since I order online a lot). I was met with a lot of eye rolling from the first woman I talked to when I went back just to ask about this, especially when I asked if I could bring in a picture of the online confirmation since they do not send paper receipts or inventories with online orders all the time). I asked her if I had to go on the website to print and she said she didn't know. I have been to this shop many, many times over the years, and I can say that I have only been asked if I needed help 5 times. I have been ignored, dismissed, and passed by many, many more. I am an anthropologist, and I can tell you that this people store and the ladies that work there do not understand the meaning of that word. These ladies are oblivious to people of color. Not just me. I feel like I'm walking into a shop during the 1960s when you couldn't tell who would be nice abs talk to you and who wouldn't. This last visit was it. I returned (perhaps that is what turned her off) an item, and she never once looked me in the eye. I don't expect to be fauned over, but I expect basic courtesy. Poor customer service, especially at the checkout. The last three times I was there, I don't understand why, they are friendly only to certain customers. Every time I have been waiting to pay, the sales person, ringing up the customer, would be chatting with the customer, not about the purchase, and look me straight in the eyes, and just continue to take her time, and chat away. Meanwhile, the line is getting longer. This last time, I walked out and so did the lady behind me, really don't think they care. I want to start off by saying I absolutely love Anthropologie! The quality and fit of the clothing is amazing but not easy on my budget. I went in today looking for a quick date night outfit. There's so much to choose from with a variety of shirts, sweaters, and nice jeans. This location, I nestled in the Carlsbad Forum shops gets one star for convenience and another for the huge selection of clothing. The negative stars are for the snotty and unfriendly sales ladies. How hard it is to say "hello" or possibly "can I help you find a different size" instead I went looking for different sizes back and forth from the dressing room because not one of the five ladies that worked there offered to help. Instead they stared at me as I walked by and one of the managers yelled at another employee for letting me walk out of the dressing room to find my own sizes. If this is how she treats the employees you can imagine how she treats the customers. I definitely won't be visiting this location again. Bummed too because of the amazing section! Hopefully the owner of this location is reading this review and has some serious customer service training with these employees. I'm reading all of these negative reviews about negative customer service, rude cashiers, and customers being treated differently because of the color of their skin. I hope this wasn't the case today because I am Hispanic. I do think corporate needs to take a serious investigation into the employees and their interactions or lack of service to those of color. I went there today and everyone was very helpful but they didn't have their items marked on sale to where you could easily see it. Total hodge podge. I knew what I wanted and even had my items in my online cart but everything was an Easter egg hunt. I found several things I wanted but heard several times the cashier tell the customers "well that's not on sale but you can get 30% off of this but not this". That discouraged me. Ok.. so I could move into this store and live! I love the clothing, perfumes, shoes you name it ... they always have a super cute items! The staff is always nice and super helpful. While waiting for a dressing room on a particularly busy sale day, the staff was sure to keep the line informed and make sure that we knew that they were aware and trying to accommodate us fast as possible . Sometimes just acknowledging the wait is nice to hear and they went above an beyond making sure everyone was ok. Good job. I am very disappointed with my experience TRYING to shop at this location. On multiple occasions I was completely ignored by the staff. I would walk in and receive no welcome, which is fine, but then when a caucasian customer followed immediately after, she would be warmly greeted. Not only that, I would be followed by your staff as if I was a thief. EVERY TIME. You need to do a better job at teaching your employees to be kind to ALL races. There's more to Anthropologie than just CLOTHES! Anthropologie has great customer service. I mean GREAT!! I've only bought a few sweaters/cardigans here over the years which btw have held up really well over time and thankfully still stylish...at least I'd like to think. : ) Anyway, I went here last week to get inspired for an upcoming dinner party i'm having with several of my girlfriends. Anthropologie always has great window displays and usually carries fun and great little shabby chic kitchen decor items. If you entertain a lot, you'll probably agree that using the same entertainment ware over and over gets a little old and predictable. So, i'm always on the lookout for great pieces to incorporate with items I already have. Initially, I was going to pick up a few glasses and fun napkins but looking through all their fun pieces, I went a little crazy. There were so many cute bowls, plates, cups, napkins, candles--you name it. It was so hard for me to choose. In the end, I was able to select several items but because I wanted 12 of everything, it was hard to get them all at once. The sales clerk went back and forth into their storage section 3 or 4 times to help me pull everything together. Thankfully, in the end, I was able to pull most of everything together and all the other items I was able to order online and delivered to my home. The gal that helped me was fantastic. i wish I remembered her name to give her props here but if you're reading this -- you know who you are! Everything for my shabby chic dinner party is coming together beautifully and I know my girls are going to love it. I would highly recommend this place not on for the cute clothes but also for the home items they carry. My girls-only dinner party is going to be so cute thanks to Anthroologie's "At Home" selection. The last few times I've visited Anthropologie at The Forum, I've come away with a bad taste in my mouth. In August I was there with my mother who was visiting from out of town. She had bought me a dress from Anthropologie's new "BHLDN" online collection, that she thought was fitting for a rehearsal dinner for my upcoming wedding. Unfortunately, it was not a flattering fit for me. I was browsing around the store while my mom went to the cash rep to do the return. Next thing I knew, my mom came up to me practically in tears. The lady at the desk had told her there was nothing she could do for my mom, and then offered to take the dress from her, without giving her any money back, store credit or any other options.... This, alone, seems like a very shady practice. Luckily, I caught up with the lady as she waltzed the dress ($200+) into the back, and was able to get a customer service number and the dress back from her. Upon calling customer service, turns out the dress was totally returnable and my mom shipped it back and got the full refund. I recently went into this same location with a pair of earrings my mom bought me for Christmas. It was the day after Christmas and as I approached the cash rep the woman behind the counter did not smile, or barely even utter a greeting. She then snapped at me when I asked about the price of the earrings and how much store credit she was giving me. I understand the holidays are never fun at retail, I've worked in retail before. But her mannerisms were absolutely, unapologetically... off-putting. I guess this does it for me and this store. If I have a real pressing need or dire emergency, maybe I'll take a walk through, but most likely, I'll opt for other locations where I've been treated like an actual human being. read more

This is the 3rd Anthro store I've been in so far in SD. Carlsbad location has* THE* best sales selection ever. I was amazed. Their sale area is well organized and doesn't seem as claustraphobic as UTC and Fashion Valley. And their dressing rooms - yikes - look brand spanking new. Just really spacious and rustic looking. BUT. The girls working the dressing rooms are TERRIBLE. Never once did they check up on me to see if I needed different size or help. I walked out once half dressed asking if one of them could watch my dressing room since no one was helping me and I would get a different size myself (I guess they didn't catch my sarcasm as they stood there looking dumbfounded). A few more positives: - girls answering phone were great. Looked for sale items for me and pulled them aside before I got there - LOTS of cashiers. Friendly cashiers too. - the store really is nicely laid out. Doesn't seem too cluttered and felt 'calmer' and newer than the other two locations I've been to I would come back here if a sale just started as they seem to have more stuff. Just hoping the attendants in the dressing room can be more aware and helpful next time. read more

Bottom Line: Unique women's clothing and home decor but a bit pricey. Anthropologie is where I shop when I am searching for unique, fun, fashionable and eye catching clothing. The store is rather big and can be overwhelming unless you have a lot of time to methodically browse fixture by fixture. Sometimes items will be hung behind dissimilar items so you really need to check out the entire rack. Also, you can't judge items by the snippet of fabric you see when approaching the rack. Often the garment's details are what make the item buy-worthy but you have to take a close look to see the details. In addition to great ladies' clothing Anthropology also has terrific accessories. I love buy big chunky fashion necklaces here. All of this fashion goodness does come at a price though. For a thrifty shopper, ensure to check out the back room but browsing this space will require patience. The home goods at Anthropologie are also browse worthy. Pretty dishes, embroidered dish towels and frilly aprons are all sold here. Because there is often a lot of pattern, color and detail to the home goods I wouldn't furnish an entire house from Anthropologie but a few pieces mixed in with more neutral selections is killer. In retail service is often consistently inconsistent; however, at Anthropologie it's often attentive and helpful which it should be at this price point. Soon BHLDN, Anthropologie's wedding store will be opening on the backside of the store. Parking in this shopping center can be a bit crazy so I often skip the chaos and park behind Sur La Table. read more
