I really like this store. Their clothes are very original, very cute, and feminine. They come in a variety of sizes, and they have a decent sale section. The service is always good, and the selection of home stuff and books are great for the Hubby who needs to wait around while I try things on. I like this store. This is an outdoor Anthropologie which gets a lot of foot traffic. There is a small parking area (next to Papersource) where you can park your car but don't count on it. Just park on the street or pay for metered parking. This is a one-level store. There is numerous sale items in the back but I never find anything I like. read more

Sometimes I feel like this store is for girls who want to dress up like dollies. Fluffy clothes, pretending to be hippie. But....many of their things are soooo pretty, and their t-shirts are incredibly soft. Occasionally you find some decent, doesn't need-dry-cleaning piece of clothing on their sale rack for an amazingly cheap price. The catalogs are great for collage ripping & tearing, very atmospheric (& free!). I LOVE that they have a couch you can drop yourself upon if you feel overwhelmed, dizzy, or nauseated. (Which I do whenever I go there, like my head exploded) I'm a jewelry designer-&-maker, and OMG! Their jewelry is SO DAMN EXPENSIVE for stuff that often looks like it'll last only a few months! I don't care if it's "pretty" or "cute" -- trust me, it will fall apart before the trend for that piece of jewelry fades. I was shocked and sort of embarrassed for them. If the jewelry had been well-made, sure, but.....IT'S often SOOO not. In this town there are so MANY people making the same jewelry! (GOOD stuff that'll last.....check Etsy.com ) Their clothes are tricky; you don't want to look like a Barbie outfit got onto your body. BALANCE! Don't overdo it, especially women my age (40+)! You will look like a sad fool. Only the headless mannequins and starving girlies who are taller than your boyfriend and weigh less than your purse can wear much of the clothes they sell. Some of that hand-beading will need reinforcing before washing or you'll lose those beads, and I often wonder about the embroidery too (wash in COLD water!). Go to Baubles & Beads up on Shattuck near Cedar; they'll show you the proper thread to use for re-stitching, & maybe even match up any missing beads. Some of the COLOR combinations.....okay. I have to ask WHY? Why mustard with orange and navy blue? WHY???!? I gave them 4 stars because I love their hardware (the hooks, knobs, etc.), their teacups, I love 3 skirts I got (2 on HUGE sale!) -- and a couple of soft t-shirts. And.........That couch is my best friend after I've worn myself to the bloody bone on 4th Street. Sighhhhhhh. read more

I have the ultimate love/hate relationship with this place. The prices are truly astronomical. I mean, $150 for a flimsy cotton dress? $50 for a t-shirt? Gah! I'm willing to spend if I am getting quality but this ain't it. A sweater I bought has started to pill terribly. Even with a $50 gift card burning a hole in my pocket, I can't bring myself to buy anything at full price. I'd rather grab the knockoffs at Forever 21! Beautifully done catalogs. Ingenious store decorations. Helpful salespeople. Pretty and unusual designs for clothing and unique selections for housewares and etc. The bad parts: So many things are sleeveless-they're missing a bet there in the potential beauty of clothing designs. Many things are made of very light, thin fabric---some people prefer this, some don't. Their clothes all coordinate beautifully together but I find, when I get a coveted piece home, it doesn't mix and match well with my other things---Anthropologie IS a certain look! Expensive. More good things: Great bargains at their sales. Pretty, pretty, unusual jewelry. Fun store to look around in. They have a little of everything. Despite only being able to actually buy something once in a while, I do relish their catalogs and always consider it a treat to go to the store. read more

The pros: This Anthro is close to a lot of other boutique shops and restaurants so it makes for a lovely relaxing shopping day. There is a ton of inventory, so you might find yourself in there for a good portion of the day trying on any and everything. Also, a lot of house goods inventory as well to peruse through. Their sales rack is pretty decent. And for whatever reason, they seem to always carry something I saw in the catalog that all the other nearby Anthro stores are out of. The cons: If you don't get there super early, finding parking is such a pain. You might be walking for miles. The staff is not very helpful. They are friendly, and will smile, but that's pretty much it. So if I go by myself, I never feel like I can count on any of the staff to help me out. It's also always busy in there too. Okay, so as far as Anthro stores are concerned, this one isn't quite up to the same amazing standard as, let's say, Santa Monica or San Francisco. It's definitely one of the smallest Anthropolgies I've ever been in, but there is a certain charm about the place that I love. Maybe it's the Berkeley atmosphere. Maybe it's the fact that it's not Union Square crazy. Okay, okay. I admit it. I like this store because they have a better selection and don't sell out of my size as quickly as the San Francisco or Burlingame stores. If something goes on sale, I have better luck finding it here in Berkeley than anywhere else in the Bay Area. Plus it's next to one of my fave stores of all time--Paper Source. And how bad can that be? I'll be the first to admit that I am an Anthro whore. I love it. I can't really afford it, but I love it all the same. This place brings me out in a rash. The pungent perfumed air, the florid overdone clothes, the noxious customers. No man should suffer the horrors of this overpriced, overhyped boutique. LOVE this store! i prefer this location over SF and Danville. and today one of the staff absolutely made my day. while combing through the sales room i stumbled upon a cute top..it was the last one in a size 0.. which of course i knew wouldnt fit..but since i loved it so much i decided to try it on.. i got it to button but well.. unless i planned on not breathing or eating it would be PERFECT..needless to say..it was to small.. i knew i needed a 4... so i go to the register and tell one of the girls (Nicole) that i love the top but it's to small..before i even asks she lets me know she'll do a check.. so i was fine with being patient and she got on the phone and started asking other stores..she musta been calling hella stores cause she was on the phone forever and finally she found a store that carried my size! she got a hold of a location in TEXAS. in my experience i've never had a staff associate go completely oout of their way to really help me out with a search for one item.. ON SALE! I was totally impressed that she didn't just stop calling around after 5 minutes! THANKS!!!!! read more

The store is small and sometimes a little disorganized, but they stock all my favorite Anthro beauty-essentials. Just don't order to pick up in store since more often than not the item is not actually in stock here. read more

The thing about Anthropologie is that they have some absolutely stunning clothes, and they have some mind-blowingly horrific clothes. The longer you stay in the store, the less able you are to differentiate between the two. Regardless, everything goes on sale a matter of weeks anyway, so you can get some great deals! read more

I keep reading about the terrible customer service at this store. I am sure it is the same at other locations and I think I can shed some light on why the employees completely ignore most of their customers.: It is because they are too busy racially profiling and following around black and Hispanic customers. I was followed so in-artfully by one of their employees that I started walking back towards her, forcing her to turn around, over and over. My experience is not unique. They are so bad that one of their own security guards has filed a lawsuit against them citing a pattern of racial profiling of black customers in their stores. read more

Gorgeous store that was neat all-around, including the sale areas (a large walk-in closet in the back corner). Everything inside motivates me to become ridiculously wealthy so i can actually afford items on sale ($100 marked down to $80 still requires a large chunk of my post-college/barely survivin' paycheck). I love all the clothing and accessories at anthropologie! If I had money, I would replace everything in my closet for their clothing but for now, I can only look and imagine myself in the nice silk skirt or cute dress on the hanger. Very cool and unique stuff to shop for at Anthroplogie. Their selection of accessories/purses/headbands are amazing. Some of it is over-priced but definitely unique and I feel it makes it worth buying. The clothes are awesome, very bohemian/trendy chic. I love walking the perimeter of the store for the various collections of candles and lotions, there are so many to choose from and I can always find stuff that would make for great gifts to others. read more

Ok so this is the grown-up version of Urban Outfitters; I know that it's really cool to hate on UO right now because they represent the behemoth of magazine cable cool-- I know I know...but honestly Anthropolgie is shameless in what they charge for a simple T-shirt ( $40) and the jewlery, are you kidding me ($50 for a pair of earrings that you can replicate at H&M or Forever 21?) Are you serious? So I don't even bother looking at the accessories anymore. That being said, I HAVE found some quality pieces that have lasted me for a really long time, that I always get compliments on! I received some items from here as a gift and they weren't really my style. I came to the store to exchange them. Before I went through with the exchange, I specifically asked the salesperson if the gift giver would know because otherwise I wouldn't exchange them. Her answer definitely not, they won't know. Why the hell do I get a call from my in law asking why I returned their gift? Now I don't even want to use the gift card I got for my returns because I'm paranoid they'll tell the gift giver what I actually got. Buy your $45 t-shirts elsewhere. read more

group interview question: who is the target anthropologie customer? my answer: women who are young mothers or young professionals, late 20's, early 30's and up...women with some disposable income...women who are fashion conscious, forward thinking, not afraid to take risks with what they wear...likely to pair lace with corduroy, denim with silk...looking for a unique edgier style. (needless to say, they liked that answer. plus, i had the charm, good looks and charisma required for the job.) obviously the anthro look appeals to a far broader range that just the "target"...girls that are younger, with less disposable income for one...(i once rang up a $300 purchase for a girl who gave me $17 and then asked me to split the remainder between 2 credit cards and a check for $75!!! that was far less common than the $1000 sales, however.) but the broad range of appeal is part of the charm. there are those who will actually go out, decked in head to toe anthro, and then there are those, like me, who will use a wild anthro piece as an anchor for an outfit but supplement with BR or something else more classic. number one shopping stop for $60 t shirts (you know you love em), party dresses and sweaters. highlight? when nanette lepore pants went on sale during employee appreciation week. oooooh. and the home decor? fab. anthro for your life. most of our customers were fun and funny and a pleasure to work with. my fave part? other than writing the names in marker on the dressing room doors---has to be helping people find cute outfits. you need a hand nabbing something cute for an event? holler at your former salesgirl, i can help you out. read more

The customer service at Anthropologie anywhere has been always really good. However, I have been most impressed with the service at this Berkeley branch. Page, the store manager was so exceptional, smart, kind, helpful. Aytana ( hope I am spelling her name correctly), Gabi, and everyone else who helped me were also fantastic. They all had this special elegant, sophisticated but not arrogant, qualities about them, that I felt at ease and also was able to trust their fashion advice. Also their clothes and selection are great, and at special sales on already sale prices, almost anyone can afford their clothes. read more

Okay, so it may not be as large as the Anthro in Downtown SF but it's a lot neater, the staff is pretty nice, the selection is great, the layout is wonderful, and it's not overwhelming. There's parking around as well. You can get your fill of both good fashion and fashionable housewares. Completely elegant and I love getting the ultra-girly stuff in my wardrobe from this place. I never really thought of myself as feminine because I love being so casually dressed (jeans and t-shirt) kind of girl but Anthropologie always makes me wanna dress up all pretty and stuff. The jewelry is extremely affordable but looks so sophisticated, you will definitely have people looking twice at your attire. Between the two, I really heart the Berkeley Anthropologie. read more

I've been to all the Anthro stores in the Bay Area and the service here is extra spectacular! The women were very genuinely nice and seemed to enjoy what they do- and I had interactions with several. Selection wise it's similar to the other stores- and very neat, clean, the comfortable atmosphere you'd usually experience that makes you want to go even if you weren't shopping. read more

First Anthropologie I've been to, and maybe the last. The store version of the catalogs that I love was too overwhelming for me. The displays were mostly appealing, but too "shabby chic" for me. Too feminine...why can't they copy the trendy, serene way of the models in the "mini- fashion bibles" I get in the mail?? I guess it's good to be able to try on clothes...but seeing everything all at once seem to magnify the expensive prices even more!! read more

Anthropologie features a wide range of fashion. This is a total lifestyle store. I love the style and etiquette books, the perfume and the selection of scented candles. The dishes and garden tools are a revelation. Women's wear (and sometimes even baby clothes!) are always a delight. Prices are always higher, but it's a more grown up luxury store than most. read more

Huge store located in the 4th street area, loved their selection and the lady in the dressing room was helpful and honest with her opinions. Love honesty. Perhaps my review is swayed because I absolutely love Anthro and during high school Urban Outfitters was my thing. Love the welcoming smell of any Anthro. However the best sale rack i found was in Santana Row's location. The sale rack here was pretty mediocre in comparison. But I'm probably just glad there is an Anthro nearby. read more
