Visited here on a Sunday for a bridal shower and was sincerely impressed. Service was top notch and the bartender was excellent. I don't even like chocolate martinis but the ones she made were the best I've ever tasted. We enjoyed a buffet style lunch which included pear raviolis, stuffed shells, Cesar salad, meatballs and a chicken dish. Everything was so delicious! The raviolis and stuffed shells were 10/10. Def recommend :)

Anthony's Cucina Fresca is a homey, welcoming and, above all, bustling trattoria. No matter what day of the week you decide to put in an appearance - especially at dinner - rest assured that the joint will be jumping... which is something of a recommendation in and of itself... ... And there are several excellent reasons why Anthony's continues to pack them in: the food is well-prepared and generously portioned; the price is right (downright inexpensive in my book); and the service - even in the midst of the hustle & bustle and the tightly-spaced seating arrangements - is self-assured, friendly, and exceedingly knowledgeable... Another plus is the restaurant's well-stocked bar, which features select signature cocktails and an assortment of Italian wines and beers. Appetizers get culinary matters off to a good start. There are, of course, the so-called usual suspects, items such as the Clams & Mussels Mix in either red or white sauce, Fried Calamari, and Bruschetta. But the kitchen also turns out a number of more interesting starters that appear to be specifically designed to pique your culinary curiosity as well as rouse your tired taste buds from slumber. The Stuffed Figs, Prosciutto, and Mascarpone, for example, isn't exactly your usual bill of fare. Dry figs are stuffed with a creamy mascarpone cheese and chopped walnuts and served with Prosciutto di Parma. But even better is the kitchen's updated Burrata. Homemade creamy mozzarella is pillowed on a bed of spring mix, topped with roasted red peppers, and finished with a delicious pesto sauce and splash of truffle oil. Utilizing a host of familiar ingredients, Anthony's Eggplant (pictured) is a charmingly contemporary take on a traditional starter. Thick tender slices of baked eggplant are interspersed with homemade fresh mozzarella and Romano cheese, splashed with extra virgin olive oil & marinara sauce, and crowned with a fresh basil leaf. As photogenic as it is delicious. The definitive winner in the appetizer department. Anthony's salads, which are anything but ordinary, also make marvelous starters - and most easily double as light entrées or are suitable for sharing... The Pear, for instance, offers up slices marinated in cinnamon sauce with mixed greens, Gorgonzola, walnuts, and homemade vinaigrette dressing... The Portobello combines glazed mushrooms, mixed greens, roasted zucchini, goat cheese, and caramelized almonds splashed with a mandarin vinaigrette... The Organic includes chickpeas, sunflower seeds, feta cheese, kalamata olives, beets, and fresh mushrooms served over a bed of spinach with a homemade honey vinaigrette. My nod, however, goes to Anthony's Signature Salad (pictured), a delightful combo of fresh strawberries, grapes, sliced almonds, goat cheese, and grilled salmon on a bed of romaine lettuce drizzled with a first-class honey/balsamic vinaigrette. As you move on to the entrées, tradition prevails once again, as the menu offers the customary variety of pastas and chicken & veal dishes served up Saltimbocca, Marsala, Piccata, and Parmigiana. Salmon, a menu mainstay, is presented San Remo (baked with mussels, clams, and shrimp in a spicy marinara) and Sicilian (baked in a garlic olive oil sauce sided by sautéed vegetables). The kitchen also puts out a very nice Filet Mignon Italian Style wrapped in bacon with mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. My dining partner's Chicken Parmigiana was particularly well prepared. The chicken was moist and tender, smothered in melted mozzarella and accompanied by al dente penne pasta. My only gripe was that the marinara sauce could have used a bit more seasoning. Anthony's Lasagna, on the other hand, was right on the money. The lasagna noodles were layered with beef, mozzarella, ricotta, and parmesan and then doused with a marinara & panna sauce. This is basically marinara sauce spruced up with heavy cream and a touch of nutmeg. And its presence added a delightfully rich & creamy dimension to the lasagna's taste and texture. A must try. Veal, in whatever incarnation it may appear, is always a good bet. My Veal Marsala, for instance, sautéed in a mushroom Marsala wine sauce, was marvelously tender and offered up just enough consistency to indicate that you were biting into the real McCoy rather than that beneath contempt processed variety. The mashed potatoes also proved an excellent complement; and while the sauce struck me as a tad too sweet, why quibble. Desserts cover the usual bases, i.e., tiramisu and cannoli. Both are just fine... but occasionally the kitchen will bake up a sweet ending that is really worth those extra calories. Recently, for example, my dining partner and I were treated to an exquisite freshly-made fruit tart that far surpassed expectations. The crust was perfectly textured, the fruit at the peak of ripeness, and the creamy filling an ethereal treat. If it happens to make a guest appearance the evening of your visit, don't hesitate to dig in.

What a disappointment! $120 in food ordered and the best we got was brown ice berg lettuce. What a shame for what would of been a good dinner but had to make 3 of my own salads. Big let down!

Anthony's is my favorite restaurant in town! Excellent, friendly service. Excellent, flavorful Italian dishes. Gelato. Beautiful indoor and outdoor space. Highly recommend!

We made a reservation for 7pm and arrived promptly at 7. We were told our table wasn't ready and would be in about 15 minutes. I was annoyed but understood that it would be ready soon. By 7:30, there was still no sign of our table. I inquired and they said they had overbooked and didn't have a table for us now. Meanwhile we weren't the only table waiting to be seated and were squished in the entry way, dodging all the takeout customers picking up. By 7:40, I went up to check again. They said another minute and it would be ready. I proceeded to ask what the point was for having a reservation if we had to wait 40 minutes. Time I'll never get back. We were fuming at this point! Once seated, we were offered appetizers on the house which was a great gesture because our night was off to a terrible start here. We opted for the calamari and the tasting board. The calamari seemed previously frozen and fried really quick and the portion was small. Wouldn't order that again. The tasting board was delicious with a nice mix of cheeses, spreads and toppings. The bread they bring to the table is really delicious. Main orders for our table included: the fish special of the night, mahi mahi with mashed potatoes and asparagus, the chicken parm, lemon and pepper linguine, and the Torino sandwich with fries. The fish was good but I didn't like the mashed potatoes as they were really bland. The asparagus was way too thick. The fish portion was a bit small and I didn't like the dark meat on the fish. The lemon and pepper linguine was very good and flavorful. The chicken parm was also good but we've had better. The sandwich was enjoyed. We got tiramisu for dessert which was pretty good. Overall, the food was decent. I've had better Italian but everyone mostly enjoyed what they got. We had a great waitress. However, we ate so late due to having to wait over 40 mins for our table. It definitely but a damper on our night and a bad impression on our entire party as this was our first time here. Plus it took an eternity to get our check and for them to collect it again. I can't say we will be back.

Anthony's Round Two - Last time I was here I hit the pothole in the driveway leading to the back parking lot, so I parked near Rita's this time around. Upon entering, I was seated immediately. It was not packed but I'd say the crowd was normal for a lunch time. Jill was my server and she was both friendly and efficient. I started out with the French Onion Soup which was delicious. I also ordered the Meatball Parmesan Sandwich which came with French Fries. Also delicious. Could only eat half of the sandwich and fries. Rating goes up one star to a 4-star from my previous 3-star rating primarily due to the driveway/parking situation. I'll be back!

Our server was great and attentive, the food was really good! We ordered the Caesar salad, calamari, chicken with crab, veal saltimbocca, pasta with shrimp and crab, pasta with meatballs (the person who ordered didn't care for the meatballs but is very particular), baked salmon, and chicken parm dinner. Only issue I would address is that some of the parties food came out at least 5 minutes before the others (about 1/2 the party) which made it awkward. Otherwise, a great experience and all want to return!

I ordered the wild mushroom papperdelle. There was no evidence of wild mushroom in this dish. The papperdelle ate plain. The mushroom "ragu" was sliced button mushrooms that were barely sautéed in a watery/ milky broth (not creamy) as if they did not cook the water out of the mushrooms. The Parmesan was added on top at the table to both dishes. Was there a hint of truffle? Maybe in some truffle oil-maybe. The dish was grossly underseasoned. Not a dish I would reorder. I also ordered the octopus appetizer salad. The octopus was seasoned with harissa (not quite Italian but ok). Unfortunately it was slightly overcooked leaving it chewy. The greens were well-dressed arugula. Again not a dish I would reorder. Our waiter was doing double duty in the kitchen while the bus girl was bussing the table so fast she took our flatware before we could pack up our leftovers while tossing the dessert menus on the table. Just did not get a welcoming vibe and would not return.

From there, it was just few brief steps to a secluded little restaurant retreat known as Orangery, which is also the residence of head chef Sabrina Lutz and her husband, Paul. As though caught in a time warp - tucked away in Glen Isle, a bit of bucolic bliss just off bustling Business Route 30 on the western fringe of Downingtown - it remains very much a world apart, a hidden gem from another age. The 40-seat enclosed sunporch, is both cozy and romantic. On the other hand, in warmer weather, nothing is quite so pleasant as dining alfresco on the restaurant's comfortable patio (pictured). The five-course set menu of hearty Tuscan fare changes fortnightly; so, as I also noted in my first review, the items I mention here may be somewhat different from what you will experience. However, this intro will still give you some idea of what to expect (to discover precisely what Orangery will be serving during a given week, please consult the restaurant's website). Dinner here generally begins with Crostini, which means "little toasts" in Italian, and consists of canapés adorned with a savory topping. During our first visit, Sweet Peppers Crostini was quite delicious; the second time around, the Shrimp Crostini was less so - and infinitely more filling (more on that later). In lieu of a second course salad, the kitchen served up a Mini Vegetable Quiche (pictured), which was quite good, although - falling victim to a not uncommon faux pas - inordinately bland. Once again, however, the pasta course - in this case, Gnocchi with Salmon pictured) - proved the weakest link in the culinary chain. Bathed in an unctuous cream sauce, to say that this dish was exceedingly rich would, indeed, be an understatement. It was simply too much of too much of a good thing... But, more than this, several misgivings voiced as a result of my first visit, I note verbatim: "In the midst of a five-course meal, unless you happen to possess the appetite of a starving yak, the portion size was entirely too large"; and, in addition, "as you may note from the photograph, it was not terribly attractively plated." Even a modest sprinkling of parsley or other herbs would have gone a long way toward significantly improving this dish's bland dropped-onto-the-plate-from ten thousand-feet appearance. The Chicken Pizzaiola (pictured), though, was right back on track. This is a variation of carne alla pizzaiola, or pizza-maker style beef. Legend has it that, because they were so busy, pizza makers in Naples needed a dish they could easily prepare with ingredients they had on hand. And this is one of those dishes that is absolutely sublime in its simplicity. The chicken breast is lightly breaded, gently fried, and then topped with a sauce comprised of tomatoes, olive oil, oregano & basil. The finishing touch, a tiara of fresh mozzarella. And all is as it should be... the chicken is moist & tender and the sauce has just the proper interplay of sweetness and acidity. My only quibble is that, once again, I consider the organic green salad with asparagus and parmesan cheese a rather odd, and not particularly well-chosen, plating companion. My preference definitely would have been for a wild rice pilaf and a nicely arranged green vegetable, sans superfluous greenery. The sweet ending...? A moist and flavorful chocolate cake garnished with strawberries. One or two closing notes... What I mentioned in my first review continues to hold true... Your ultimate opinion of this restaurant will very much depend upon your expectations. If you're looking for a sophisticated Michelin-starred experience, you've definitely come to the wrong address. The cuisine here is hearty homespun Tuscan and, on the whole, quite good. The service is not professional; however, it is young, friendly, well-meaning, and has definitely improved since my previous visit. If you have never dined at the Orangery, it is, in my opinion, certainly worthy of a visit. Given its pastoral setting and homey, unpretentious ambiance, it is a delightfully restful step back in time. Just keep the above-mentioned caveats in mind, and you will not be disappointed. BYOB... And reservations are de rigueur.
