What a fun place as long as you don't mind waiting in line. We got lucky on a Wed night after an early dinner at Pacifica, we stopped by and there was no line. The service here is excellent. They give you a sample of all the flavors and it was so fun to try everything. I opted for a large cup, half pistachio and half white chocolate swirl. It was a bit sweeter than I expected but it was excellent still.
An's holds the title of the top gelato spot in America for a reason! This location specifically in Del Mar is a hat themed shop with a lot of random and quirky hat decor. Wifey and I finally got to try the new sorbet flavors they have: the Ngob (Mango) and the McAllen (Strawberry Grapefruit). I really enjoyed both of these flavors and they were so refreshing for the summer!
Finally went to one of An's Hatmakers locations in SD! I heard and read about them and they are such a hype and it's hard for me to check them out since I don't live locally. We were in the area and walked down to An's after a late lunch/early dinner. The staff were super friendly and each of them repeat the same lengthy descriptive menu of the day for everyone with genuine enthusiasm. Kudos for all of them! I forgot what I got now since it was at least a month ago that we went there but I just know we were so satisfied! My suggestion is to go with the staff's suggestion! lol
Well shoooot I might like Gelato now. Definitely the best Gelato I've had. The line wasnt too crazy when we got there (get ~45min before sunset then walk to the park cause after its looooong) and one scooper was moving it along fast while still doing the tour which was appreciated. Downside is the Gelato places around me aren't this good so still deferring to ice cream. Shout out to the random person on the bus that randomly found us approachable to start talking about all his fav food places and recommended this place (along with some others that held up). Ill call him the 101 foodie. Also they dont make hats from what I saw but they do have ones you can try on while in line once inside.
This place is super super cute and is by the same people as An's Dry Cleaning and An's Electronics! I absolutely love that they have their flavor tour which is where they give you a sample of every flavor they have. They also have very unique flavors and change it up every few weeks. My favorite flavor they had was when they had their Matcha collab with Paru Tea, and I believe they still bring the matcha flavor back sometimes! They definitely get really busy on the weekends (1-2 hour wait) so I recommend going on a weekday where I only had to wait 10 minutes! The pricing is a little pricy, but not too bad, especially for the quality and service they provide! I also definitely recommend going to their other stores too as they are all different themes. Free 1 hour parking garage!
Spent an amazing weekend in Del Mar. The scenery, the people, the seafood made for a true getaway. After dinner we naturally started to think about something sweet to cap off the night. Found An's nearby, but when we walked over there was a line down the street, so we decided to come back the next day. We came back the next day after lunch and there was nobody in line! The setup here is different than other ice cream / gelato shops. Here they have a limited selection of flavors that they change every few weeks, and it's customary for them to give you a taste and explanation of each one before ordering, similar to a wine tasting. After the tasting they ask you to choose 2 flavors. I don't remember the flavor names, but they're named after iconic hats. I had a flavor that had mango and passion fruit mixed with a flavor that tasted straight out of a See's candy box. Wife had a super dark chocolate with matcha. All I can say are the boldness of flavors they achieve here can only be done thru using the highest of quality ingredients. Truly remarkable their flavors. They are extremely indulgent without being too rich, hard to explain but each bite was so addictive. We can't wait to return to Del Mar and bring the whole family (and dogs) next time, and An's will be a must visit on that trip. True 5 star, must try spot. (Sorry about the messy half eaten pics...)
Cute themed ice cream place! Unique flavors and high quality ice cream. Line was long but to be expected! They give lots of samples and are super friendly :)
One of my favorite Gelato shops in SD! Although it's a sister location to An's Dry Cleaning, the line is a lot shorter, especially if you go right when it opens. I love how the staff does flavor tours, where you get to sample and hear about each flavor before you order. I got a large double scoop of the leather (chocolate chip cookie) and visor (pistachio) and loved how nutty visor was. I would recommend pairing nutty visor with cypress if you're interested in a dark dubai chocolate note. This shop is close to the beach, but there is a paid garage attached to the plaza. If you are willing to walk, there is street parking in the vicinity.
The lore of these An's gelato spots is so cool - love that they really pay homage to the previous business and that it's embedded in the store name, decor, and flavor names. Their gelato is truly the best I've had in my life - dare I say, I enjoyed this more than the gelato I had in Italy. The ceremonial strawberry matcha flavor was DIVINE if you're a matcha lover. Such strong pure matcha flavor, just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess. The strawberry jam is homemade. The strawberry sorbet was strawberry galore - 6 lbs strawberries per batch. I love that they let every customer do the flavour tour. It does crank up the line times but it's worth it. Also, it's only a long line if you catch them at a busy time like weekends or after work. This place was so good we came back 3 times on our 1 week trip here. Not to mention, the staff is SO nice!
My co-residents and I knew that we had to stop by one of An's ice cream shops before leaving SD and I am so glad we did because this was the best gelato I've ever had. The experience was overall just so fun too because we were literally able to sample every flavor before ordering and they were all so good that it was hard to decide. The workers were so sweet and chatty and overall just added to the positive experience! There's a few tables inside and I absolutely LOVED their decorations!! There were so many hats all around and it was such a cute concept. For the gelato, I decided to get a small with the flavors Leather and Cypress. The Leather was a brown butter flavor with chocolate chips and I was so impressed. It was soo rich and so addicting that I bought a pint of it to bring home, even though I lived a 2 hour drive away. The Cypress was a super rich chocolate flavor which I also loved! The slight bitterness was a great contrast to the sweetness of the Leather. I was so addicted and would definitely recommend this place!
Love this place. Always a great experience. The teenagers working there are always so well mannered and do a great job with their tour sample. I got the power supply (coffee, dulce leche, cinnamon) and leather ( brown butter chocolate chip cookies). Small size is more than enough ice cream for me. So delicious!
What to say about this place that hasn't already been said... the ice cream is so amazing and the joy of trying all the flavors is always so fun. This place is always worth coming back because they have so many flavors and all of them have their own unique texture and profile. They make ice cream an art here. The parking situation isn't so good but the structure it's located in offers free parking for up to an hour. Pro tip to skip the line get a pint and enjoy it down by the water or up the stairs to the left of the storefront for an ocean view!!!!!
We really enjoyed our visit to An's Hatmakers while we were in the area. First off, we went on a weekday so there weren't any lines. The staff who took us on our "flavor tour" was very energetic, friendly, and knowledgeable of the menu. We ended up selecting their Mixmaster (vanilla, cinnamon, salted butter) and Leather (brown butter, cookies) flavors. We love a good sweet/salty moment so these flavors were right up our alley. We found parking in the paid garage behind the shop, and we'd definitely return for some tasty gelato!

Thank you, Bryce! See you again soon.
Wouldn't you think this is a place to come to if you were in the market for a hat? There ARE hats on display but this place sells cold creamy confections. Cute shop, interesting flavors, friendly counter service. If you are lactose intolerant prepare yourself. Just a cautionary note cuz you know... read more

Thank you so much, Dana! We appreciate you.
There was a fairly long line that extended outside the shop, but it moved quickly. When we got to the counter, we were greeted by Emily. She was very upbeat and friendly right away. We asked for two samples and then she asked if we had ever been there before when we told her we had not, she then offered us a flavor flight. The palate cleanser to start was delicious! I could eat just a bowl of it! All of the flavors were delicious, and Emily gave great descriptions of each as she gave us the samples. I decided on a small with 2 flavors Minky which was a refreshing coconut/pineapple and also Beret which is vanilla, white chocolate, and caramel. The little shop is adorable love the hats on display. There are a few tables inside and also a few outside with umbrellas. Great location, limited street parking but the Plaza does have a parking garage on the block. read more

Thanks for coming in, Gina! Glad you loved it.
Another 5 star experience in the books! I was in the area and had to make a stop at my favorite gelato shop. Service was amazing as usual and the line wasn't too bad. I went around 5pm on a Saturday and waited about 15 minutes. I got their strawberry lemon and their palette cleanser. They complemented each other very well and it was so refreshing on a warm summer day. I love it here! read more

Good combo, Grace! We love you too.
Award-winning and worthy of the hype! It's not just gelato, it's an experience! We came in on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have to wait at all. I had looked at the menu and had picked out what flavor I wanted, but we did the samples and I changed my mind. Make sure you try all the flavors as well. They do them in a certain order and the server explained everything so well. It's obvious that the people who work here love their job and are proud of their products. The shop was adorable. I've been to the original An's Dry Cleaning, and I can't wait to check out their newest location in OB. read more

Thank you for coming in, Sierra! Glad it was a great experience.
What a cute concept for gelato! Seating is outside and you cant ask for anything better than eating gelato while staring at the ocean. I came on a holiday weekend so there was a long line. I was able to sample a few flavors before deciding on the fascinator and paper combination. It was good but not as good as gelato in Europe. :p also kinda pricy but I guess you pay for the experience. read more

A little hard to find parking, but honestly totally worth it. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the place itself is clean and cozy with a nice vibe. I got the mango sorbet and strawberry matcha, and both were absolutely delicious--so flavorful and refreshing. You can really tell the quality of the ingredients. Definitely coming back to try more flavors! read more

I've been frequenting An's Dry Cleaning (ADC) for years, so I was excited to try An's Hatmakers when I was in north county. I used the shopping center's underground parking structure/lot. I believe parking there for under an hour is free. There is also some metered street parking. The store was empty when I came on a weekday afternoon. This was a surprise to me, since ADC usually has a huge line going out the door. The gelato was quality. There was a good selection of flavors when I went (they do a rotating menu). I did a flavor tour where I sampled all the flavors they had that day. I love how their gelatos are crafted and well made. There is a little bit of indoor and outdoor seating. The tables and chairs are small. read more

Good ice cream flavors all unique and handcrafted. Location is on a busy street and parking can be hard. I recommend to park in the parking garage on the side of the building. Customer service is top notch, they give you a free taste testing of each flavor. The prices range from $6.45-$13.15 so it's not too bad, they let you split 2 flavors per size. The ice cream is definitely good to share. Seating inside and outside limited. read more

A must try for a one way ticket through a gelato journey! Food: My favorite flavor I tried was the pistachio. The gelato was creamy, not too sweet, and had real pistachios inside of the gelato. The flavors are unique and even the paler cleaners was delicious. Service: Many customers come for the service alone. The employees take you through a taste testing journey of all of the flavors they offer. They are always so kind, patient, and positive. Ambiance: The store was very clean and neat. The dev For gives the store a modern twist and pop of brightness from the plants. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall: An's is great for gelato and customer service. The flavors are unique and the employees are very kind and willing to help you find the perfect combination. read more

An's Hatmakers is definitely a unique ice cream shop that I think everyone should try! They rotate through the flavors, and each flavor is special. Whether you like sweet and rich flavors or light and fruity, they will definitely have at least one flavor you will feel drawn to. The ice cream is thick, unlike cheap, store-bought ice cream that is airy. Also, their organic source of flavors (like using pounds of real pistachios in their pistachio flavors) stands out, and each flavor has a delicious and strong taste. I really appreciate their flavor tour, which is where they allow you to sample each ice cream flavor while they explain the taste profile of each one. They also use metal spoons for this, which makes the process even more special. Located in the beach town of Del Mar, this shop and the surrounding area are beautiful. Whether you want to sit down and eat your ice cream or walk around the beach town, you cannot go wrong with either. I will say, there is not much available seating, as the shop itself is pretty small and there are only a couple of tables outside. I have been here on both a weekday and weekend, and it is significantly less crowded on weekdays. Parking was a little difficult; you can either park in the parking garage nearby or in a parking spot along the road. Because it is Del Mar and right next to the ocean, parking is limited. Each flavor has a quirky nickname to follow the theme of 'hats'. This is a fun place to check out with your friends or family! read more

Really cute, hat themed gelato shop w 7 diff flavors. Came at 12PM on a Sunday and there were already a couple of people in front of us. An's continues to never disappoint!!!! I got to try 2 pints: Kilt and Visor. Kilt is a very strong coffee and Irish whiskey flavored gelato that is soo creamy and delicious. The coffee flavor is STRONG just how I like it. This one is different from their other coffee flavor that used coffee beans from 7 seas roasting. One of my favs from An's!! I've never seen this on the menu, but they had it available in the pint version. Visor again is also one my favorites and it's just so nutty, sweet, creamy, and very satiating. I think the pints are very good value if you get it. It's $13 but you get a lot more than if you just get a small or large cup. An's always provides such a warm and friendly experience and service and can't wait to keep trying new flavors! read more

Katrina, you are amazing. Thank you so much for your support and…
Really good ice cream ! Upon arrival we tried the "flavor tour" where we tried all 8 flavours . All were so good, but we opted for two flavours - denim (banana Nutella caramel ) and roasted pistachio. If you're looking for a cool ice cream on a hot day, I recommend this one ! read more

America's No.1 Gelato Shop with Unbeatable Flavor and Texture Food: The aroma is rich, and the texture is delightfully chewy. Even with a small size, you can choose two flavors. The pistachio flavor was especially outstanding. Service: The staff are quick and friendly. They also provide detailed explanations about the flavors. When I visited on the afternoon of July 1st, the staff member on the left side from the customer's point of view was particularly kind and attentive. I'd like to compliment them. Ambiance: The shop is cozy, and the interior decorated with hats left a strong impression. There is limited seating available both inside and outside. read more

We went during a busy time around 8pm and although there was a line, it moved pretty fast. Highly recommend doing flavor tour. Our server told us all the fun flavors and they were amazing. So happy I got to see the rave around An's Ice Cream. Got tweed (tres leches) and it was milky with some soft chunks of cake I think. Definitely reminds me of tres leches. Area is small but it's decorated nicely with a hat wall, mirrors, and other decorations giving it an old mid-1900 aesthetic. read more

Delicious ! My friends and I went for their valentines flavors. It was my first time and I appreciated how they gave every party a flavor tour of all their flavors at the moment. The kind barista gave us details descriptions of the flavors and how they're made. I got their mango passion fruit flavor and salted caramel. The salted caramel was delicious and had depth to its flavor and I will definitely get it again read more

An's Hatmakers is the second location of An's Dry Cleaning, the highly-rated handcrafted gelato maker in North Park. We finally tried An's Hatmakers recently after having lunch in Del Mar. The small shop was packed with customers, but our wait was less than five minutes to be served. There were only three gelato flavors that day: Visor (roasted pistachio), Hard Hat (cold brewed espresso), and Clay (Nutella brownie). We tried all three. The gelato tasted great and had a smooth, creamy texture. Nut flavors were clear and pronounced. At $6.25 for a small cup, An's is pricey. Counter service was helpful and friendly. Limited seating indoors and on street-side patio. Park on street or in Del Mar Plaza garage. read more
Favorite gelato spot in SD! I love that they give a flavor tour and let you try all the flavors before deciding. They are friendly and enthusiastic about the flavors as they explain each one. You can't go wrong with any of the flavors and they're not too sweet. The shop has a cute interior and in February was decorated for Valentine's day! read more
