Amazing service, drinks and food. Best cheese grits I've ever had. Menu selection was vast and server's knowledge was most appreciated.

First time here and did not disappoint! Brunch was absolutely delicious! Very clean and our server Kate was so sweet. We had Abe Cyclone's to drink and I had the lobster and Brie omelette and my friend had the apple fritter French toast. Both cooked to perfection and are highly recommended. And the loaded grits made with Gouda, bacon and green onion were AMAZING!!! Will be back to try more!!

Love this place! The service was really good and everything came out fast. My only complaints were that the potatoes didn't taste fresh and the gumbo had a slight fishy taste. Other than that, everything else was great and I would still come back!

Another Broken Egg is a place I constantly forget about because I just don't see them often anymore. I was in the area and decided to stop by for pancakes and their lunch duo with fried chicken salad and jambalaya. The pancakes were good, fried chicken salad was nothing special, jambalaya was a pool of oil (the oil was covered by the egg). My server Stacy was sweet, however, she was inattentive, made no table touches, was more concerned about if she was closing today. My issue could have been resolved long before it was if she had checked in. There were tables and floors that needed attention. A server almost slipped on a butter packet that was dropped by a previous server who just left it. Salt and pepper grinders need to be wiped. The server waiting tables directly across from me (black young lady with a long braided ponytail) was great though. I witnessed her constantly check in with her tables, she was personable, smiling, quick on her feet. A couple of people who she checked out complimented her service as well. Should you go here? Maybe. Everyone else appeared to enjoy their visits.

The shrimp n grits is definitely my go to at ABE! My group and I were able to be seated quickly early on a Saturday morning. Our server wasn't good but everything else was. Not my favorite brunch spot anymore but still a good pick.

For French toast with side of fruits and grits - there two sides were substitutes to meat options

Excellent food and service Love this place - best thing is to get on wait list Their coffee is amazing - they even have a decaf option

Our server today was Alex. He was very attentive and also suggested entrées to us. My brunch date had never been here before, but he was very impressed with the shrimp and grits. He got a bloody Mary that he really liked I got an apple mimosa that was delicious. I got the eggs Benedict. Not sure if I would get them again. The ham was very thick but other than that, it was delicious. The breakfast potatoes were a little dry, but I got a ranch on the side. I've been coming here for years and I've never had a bad experience. It's kind of hidden and if you're not familiar with it, you probably would never go. But I encourage you to try out this brunch place. It's so delicious.

Had an overall okay experience -- it wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. It was half empty when we went for brunch, but our waitress was awfully slow and we sat there waiting for a bit to order. She also wasn't friendly either. My water glass came with food stains so I asked for a new water, but the waitress didn't take the old glass with the stain away. The food was alright -- the hash brown benedict was too salty, but I did appreciate how crispy it was. The poached eggs were very dense in texture and had no flavor. The side potatoes weren't even remotely warm, just cold. The soft shell scrambler was alright, nothing special. The apricot streusel pancakes were insanely sweet, and the eggs and sausage that came with it were also cold. Given our experience, we're not too inclined to come back. Maybe it was because it was a slower day that the quality of the food wasn't that great, but also it was a Friday afternoon. This place wasn't the worst, but I feel like there are better brunch places around.

I went on a Saturday morning when they first opened. It's a fantastic location; the staff offers excellent suggestions. The omelet is very light and delicious, and it is cooked fresh. The building has very good natural lighting. Please stop by and see the staff soon to try the coffee. This was a good visit.

Tiramisu French Toast, very solid seasonal dish! Get it while it last!

Good food, great service. Like the management of the wait list and seating setup, as the hostess set the table with menus prior to seating us.

Food was delicious. The portions so hefty that I wasn't able to finish it all. Although the line was hanging out of the door, they handled everyone with generous service. There was enough room to fit all of the people that were constantly flooding in. Everyone was very nice and helpful.

We had a group of 8 adults and 2 children under 2. It was a busy Sunday and they were able to seat us in under 20 minutes! The service was excellent as well as the food. Our server was taking care of our 10 top plus another 4 tables in the room! What a star. I ordered the Chicken biscuit sandwich with the egg over medium and the City grits on the side, All the food at the table was delicious, but the kicker to the whole meal is when our server brought out a little plate of fruit and cheese for the babies! What a wonderful experience Mountain Brook You guys were Fantastic

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set a little outside of downtown in a more urban, industrial-like area in this gem. The neighborhood was pretty quiet and we were able to find some street parking nearby. The Avondale Common House was smooth, welcoming and chill. I remember seeing the lights hanging on the roof and thinking, "yeah, I'm gonna like it here". Once inside it felt like an upscale neighborhood bar if that makes any sense. Lol. There were tons of stickers on the host stand and random license plates above it which gave it a more personal touch, like customers have come and left their mark. However, the bar looked modern, the tables are all wood with one-piece metal chairs and the ceiling had this super-cool wavy look to it! I had never seen anything like it before. Service: Riley took excellent care of us and I had no complaints. Food: I started off with the Berns Blackberry beer and it was delicious. It hardly tasted anything like beer. It had a fruity-sweetness to it and was moderately heavy. For dinner I went with their Common Burger. It contains 2 well-done smashburger patties topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, garlic aioli and a American cheese on a brioche bun. I added bacon and at the time, was able to substitute chihuahua cheese instead of the American. This was such a clutch sub because the Chihuahua cheese is creamy, with some great hints of acid flavor and it was super melty. The burger as a whole was delightful and quite flavorful. Value: Back then this burger was $13.00 and $1.50 to add bacon. That same burger now goes for $16.00 and it's still $1.50 for the bacon. Damn that inflation. SMH. But anyway, this place won't break the bank. It's a chill spot where it can be date night, gathering with friends or whatever. In conclusion, I really liked this place and I would totally pay them another visit if I'm in the area. You should check them out too!

This place is my type of vibe!…read more Trattoria ZaZa has been on my list of places to stop at for several years. Parking often deters me but after attending the Italian Festival earlier that day, we had a craving for pizza. I ordered the combo that includes 2 slices of the day with salad. Since I wasn't overly hungry, I offered him one of my slices and he added another slice to the order. We paid and were given a number to place on our selected table. Jazzy music played in the background while we waited on our order to be brought to the table. The natural lighting, while beautiful, made it a little warm in the building. One of the waitresses propped the door open that leads to the restrooms (which are in the hallway near the elevators) in order for cooler air to make its way in. That wasn't a deal breaker, but do be aware of that on warmer days. Our food came out after a short wait. I kept my 3 cheese slice, and gave him the pepperoni one. The cheeses were very rich and the salad, while simple without the frills, was perfectly sized and drizzled with a balsamic vinaigrette that was just the right amount. While I enjoyed my meal very much and the ambiance, he wasn't overly impressed with his. He didn't want the fresh herbs on his slices and knocked all of them off, lol. He's a simple guy with simple taste. This is definitely a place I will be revisiting with one of my girlfriends and not him next time as he didn't appreciate what ZaZA had to offer. Everyone we encountered was helpful and courteous. Our food, including drinks, was around $28, which was not bad for a cute, eclectic spot downtown. If you haven't been, make sure to try them out soon. Just don't wait as long as I did to visit!

There was someone at the podium at the end who i thought was a server. Was not. After a 15 minute wait (why did it take that long?), we got to the podium person. And found out they were there to take our order, not seat us. Can only assume the 15 min delay was because people were trying to figure out what to order. No signage anywhere saying, please have what you want ready while you wait in line. 2. No menus, anywhere. Yes they can be printed and people in line could take one and figure out what they want. Yes, the menu could be put on the wall behind the server in large lettering. But no, they make you scan a QR code on the wall and view the menu on your phone, so that's inconvenient and a bit obtuse. 3. When we finally place an order for pizza, was told that, "they dont serve pizzas on the weekend, but we could order their "brunch pizzas", instead. Which on the counter, was small anemic cut slices of thick bready pizzas on the cutting board/table. Those each were $8.50 according to the menu. Figure the math of 2 small slices of pizza per person for 2 people vs just ordering a large pizza. But they don't serve pizza during brunch- Trattoria literally has the word "Pizza" in their last name- twice actually- yet you have to order a nearly $9 slice of pizza sitting out on a table for who knows how long, and of the flavor of their choice, not yours. It was flat out insulting to go to a pizza based establishment and be told they won't serve whole pizzas. We left and went to Uptown to a pizzaria there, and had a really good whole pizza, salad, dessert, and drinks, and all for half the price then if we had gone to Trattoria. Wanted to give this place a chance for years, but did not work out the way i had expected it to.

Jake and the staff were beyond friendly and kind! The patio was a popular spot with hard walls and heavy duty plastic windows, ample seating despite it being a rare 70 degree Alabama December day. Parking is a slight challenge as it has always been, however there was plenty of street parking out front and around the corner. The restaurant was clean, with a few water spills, and the rest rooms (several are unisex) were clean! The music was fun and relaxing (think early Stevie Nick's) and at a volume that was just right for conversation. We appreciated the kind staff, great dishes, and eclectic relaxing environment for our post Christmas get together. Reservations were not required. Thanks Rojo for delivering since 2002!

The normal Latin/ American food menu was available. I ordered chicken fajitas; they actually were decent and I enjoyed them. I did have to add some extra seasonings to enhance the taste a little. Portion sizes were substantial. I had leftovers. I also had the Kip's dip. I didn't love the margaritas but weren't horrible. The staff had fun / upbeat demeanors. Despite it being busy. I love the ambiance & patio here. The extra side is now for reserved events only. I really wish it was still open for normal visits. We enjoyed our Cinco de Mayo visit to Rojo!

Meow! We ordered the Abyssinian Latte with vanilla and cinnamon, and it was absolutely the bomb -- warm, smooth, and perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. The space itself is incredibly cozy and inviting. Colorful furniture, eclectic paintings, and musical instruments hanging on the walls give it a creative, artsy feel -- like they actually get used by a local band after hours. It has that relaxed coffeehouse charm where you could totally imagine Phoebe Buffay singing "Smelly Cat," yet it's also calm enough to have a real conversation or get a bit of work done on a laptop. Parking is street parking only, but we didn't have too much trouble finding a spot. They offer pastries and I noticed they also serve breakfast items, though we stopped in just for coffee this time. The shop was fairly full, which is always a good sign, but there were plenty of small tables that comfortably seat two to four people, so it never felt cramped. The baristas were super friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall positive vibe. My partner and I ended up lingering longer than planned while we talked through our day's plans -- always a sign of a great coffee spot. Warm atmosphere, delicious drinks, and kind staff make this an easy five-star experience. I'll definitely be back to try more of their cat-themed creations!

The space had a lot of people inside--many working or meeting up--so it had a lively, productive vibe. I ordered the superfood smoothie, which tasted good once I got it, but it did take a little while to come out. After ordering, I sat down for a minute before stepping out to the restroom, and it still wasn't ready for a bit when I returned. Overall, still a good experience and a nice spot to hang out, but the wait time was a bit longer than expected.
