Another Broken Egg Cafe is one of my favorite brunch spots. I only come about four times a year, but they never disappoint. I have learned to use the waitlist feature to cut down on the wait time because they usually have a long time whenever I come. I ordered my usual, a smoked salmon benedict with an extra helping of smoked salmon and I like my poached eggs cooked for one minute longer than usual, just until the yolks are slightly jellied. I also had the breakfast potatoes and coffee. They have some of the best coffee not served in a coffee specialty shop. The waitress was nice and prompt and the atmosphere was great as usual, just normal brunch chatter. If you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend it. read more

Stopped in an hour until they closed to a very disappointing experience. The staff was less than enthused to deal with an end of shift customer. The quality of the beverages was poor. Servings of soured OJ was the first indication of what was to come. I ordered immediately so not to delay the staff from closing on time. The eggs Benedict that were served were completely raw with translucent whites pooling into the plate. Brought it to the attention of the staff to only be told "I'm sorry ". Didn't even offer to remove the eggs from the bill when it wasn't edible nor consumed. The manager on duty wasn't informed while I was still on premises. I went to a brunch place in mountainbrook/homewood area called Another broken egg this past weekend. Usually at brunch places during the weekend it does get pretty busy and the wait to be seated it always long. I am glad that this place had an online waitlist where you could join it and just check in at the front and depending on the line you'll get seating. We waited about 15 minutes to get seated which was not too horrible for it being a Saturday and for it being valentines day. The waiter was quick and the staff was very nice and welcoming. There was a lot of room to sit, outside and inside and there was also a bar area where you could get served. Their menu was really big and had many drink options and they also had mocktails and cocktails you could choose from. We ordered and the waiter was very sweet and explained the menu to us. We waited around 10 minutes for our food but it came out pretty quickly. The food was fresh and hot and amazing. The whole restaurant was very clean and was just a good vibe overall. Let me start off by saying I understand finding adequate workers that get paid well is hard. That said, this will prob be our last time coming here. Our waitress, Grace, as sweet and very soft spoken as she was, had no clue what was going on. Maybe she is new to waiting tables. Besides being barely able to hear her and her not being able to answer basic questions like what kind of cheese came on the cheeseburger or how or if she could bring plain v8 juice to the table, it was a mild disaster. I ordered my kids their meals before the adults ordered, so they could come out first and get started. The kids meals had to be asked about after 20 min, the restaurant was not packed but I understand that doesn't matter if staffing is an issue, but I saw plenty of staff. We ordered 4 adult, non complicated meals at 11:20 and didn't get our luke warm, not very tasty or seasoned meals after 40 min of waiting. That is crazy, unless, the kitchen is understaffed. To which I say, if you are understaffed, tell your staff to go ahead and tell customers that. So we know that it might take longer or we can leave to seek faster service. Honesty is the best policy. After checking to see if the "bartender" could whip up*sarcasm* a small juice glass of V8, that literally came out, after being reminded 2x, as a literal virgin Bloody Mary, toppings and all. How is getting a glass of V8 that complicated? I was baffled. I worked in restaurants for 10 years. I have no clue what it's like now. Makes me want to get back in to see what in the world is going on at these places now. It's astonishing. I'm no Karen. I was just truly baffled by the meek, uneducated, air headed, slow etc of the whole experience but best believe when we were almost done eating, that check came quick and she remembered who, of the party, was paying. All in all, this used to be somewhere I loved going to about 3 years ago but this was the last time. I wish this place luck and I pray these workers get paid more,if that's the problem, or society does better in training young people in the work force. Rant done. read more

Well not sure about this location. I mean to be in an up scale area the restaurant was rather unkept and grimy. The service was satisfactory a little melancholy but acceptable. The food was hot and cold but good. The surrounding area was unacceptable as far as the walls and partition. The bathroom was clean with adequate space however the parking is a struggle if you have to park directly in front of the restaurant. Still I give 4/5 stars for the overall experience. read more

This review is particularly geared toward their fulfilment of takeout orders. This spot has been a staple for us since we moved here, once every 4-6 weeks, we get order breakfast from here instead of cooking. The food has often been good, but sometimes bland. Over the past three visits though, the number of ordered and paid for things that are completely left off my order have increased. This past weekend, despite being late for an appt, I drove right back to ask them to give me the kids juices, fruit bowls, the andouille sausage, and pancakes. Almost a third of the order; it's like they put in one kid meal and figured we'd be good without the other. That's also why I'm leaving this review b/c I politely registered my displeasure with the lady up front, who was gracious. But I hope it gets back to the management. Even at its best, the food has been hit or miss so given all this haggling for the food I've paid for, we'll just give this place a miss for the remainder of our time in town. read more

To start with when we got on the wait list it said 1hr. I understand it was a busy time when we went, however when we arrived at the restaurant 30min after we got on the list we checked in and were told it would be 30min, 30min pass and I check with the hostess and she said it would still be 30 more mins. After all was said and done we finally got seated after 1hr 45min. Then we had requested a high chair and were told they had non available but they could put us in a booth so it would be easier to hold our kid. After we sat down I saw another party get seated and they were given a high chair. I went and spoke to the manager and she said they did not have any I had expressed that we needed one and she said she would get us one. We also asked our waiter for one. All in all we asked for a high chair 4 times and never got one but witnessed 3 parties after us get one. The food was okay, nothing to really exclaim. The cleanliness of the restaurant was lacking , food was all over the floor. When you went into restroom your feet literally stuck to the floor. Also, while we're waiting we watched a group come in after us and they hostess told them they would see what they could do and immediately sat them. All in all we will probably never go to this location again. read more

Another Broken Egg became one of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots during my time as a night shift nurse. There was no better place to unwind with my coworkers, mimosas in hand! The restaurant is located in the heart of mountain brook and is lovely! I usually go at non-peak times and I've never had to wait long for the table. Just about everything I've had here is delicious! The coffee is rich and yummy. The mimosas are on point, and I love the infused mimosas, which include orange flavored vodka! I had an iced coffee today that was very good. Beware- if you come on a Sunday, local laws prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages before noon. I'd forgotten all about it and we showed up at 9. Some of my favorite dishes are the shrimp and grits, the smoked salmon eggs Benedict, and the warm Brie appetizer! The staff is always very nice, I've never had an issue. My favorite is the City Grits!! Next, the local pan sausage. Then the sausage and gravy biscuit plate is what I always order with the other two items I said above. I've visited this restaurant a few times and have generally enjoyed it. Here are a few knit picks; sticky floor, plates with food served on it with long strains of lint fibers that looks like hair, and a dirty coffee cup! I couldn't do anything about the sticky floor, but the hair like fibers served on a plate with food... The coffee was order plain, so why was there something all around the top of the cup and handle that looked like dried cream residue? I mean the staff should be paying attention to these things, it's not like the food was free. read more

This place was popping when we came by, it was the weekend, so it made sense. For our meals, I went with the louisiana style skillet with a side of the biscuit beignets and my friend went with the meaty omelet. The food came out quite quickly. Surprising, but happy since I was starving. The crawfish and andouille sausage added a nice meaty and spice to the eggs and potatoes in the skillet. The biscuit beignets were a hit. Hot, freshly fried, topped with powdered sugar and a side of this nice citris/sweet jam dip. Overall, good food, great service, comfy atmosphere, in a nice area for a fair price. Would advice to make reservations or hop on the waitlist for busy weekend brunch hours for large groups ahead of time. It can be a lengthy wait. read more

I want to love this place. I really do. But I think it's got a way to go before it's really a 4 or 5 star spot. The menu reads better than the plate looks. The ideas are there, but the execution doesn't do much to wow you when the food arrives. The place is clean and tidy, and in a nice location, but that can only take them so far. I've had service that has been remarkably bad, and service that's been adequate, but never anything in particular that stood out as great. The prices are fair, but for not much more in some other places you can do a great deal better. Overall it's a fair place to stop in and have a meal. The menu has something for everyone and as long as your expectations are moderate you should be fine. I'll probably return, but only if it's convenient or if someone else wants to go. read more

With the ideal balance of crispiness on the outside and fluff on the interior, the waffle was flawlessly golden. The sweet maple syrup went nicely with the crispy, well-seasoned chicken. Crispy on the outside, tender in the middle, and bursting with flavor, the potatoes made a fantastic side dish. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, and the service was attentive and kind. The lengthy wait was the only reason I'm giving it four stars rather than five, but overall, it was well worth the wait. Without a doubt, I'll return to try more! I have lived in Birmingham, Alabama for over 30 years. 8 years of that time, I owned a home in Destin, FL. Another Broken Egg Cafe was one of the places we went for breakfast all the time. My favorite item was the Popeyes Omelet. No longer on the menu as "Popeyes". My wife and I just went to the Birmingham location of Another Broken Egg Cafe. I really did not like it much and here is the reasons. 1) The Beignet are really just fried biscets and were not done enough in the middle. In Florida, they were real Beignet's. Disappointing. 2) The patty sausage has a spice in it that to me was not pleasing to me. That might be me personally. 3) The shrimp and grits had way to much sauce. So much that my wife had to order more grits. 4) My over easy eggs were just warm and close to cold. On a very positive note, the service was excellent. The tables outside were clean. Was really craving ABEC this morning to fulfill my pregnant hunger rage. Ordered my husband the chicken tender salad, and I got the shrimp and grits for myself. I love the flavor! Well, hubby said his salad tasted "different" and he didn't like it. I opened up my plate (Togo) hoping that we could both find satisfaction in my dish, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. For starters the grits were either overcooked or old, they were too thick to mix with my shrimp and sauce good. Secondly, there was a lacking in flavor which was unlike this usually spicy flavorful dish. I was so disappointed. I am from Tuscaloosa so maybe Mountain Brook does theirs a little different but this was certainly not what I was used to. I got lucky on a Sunday morning and got a table before it got too busy. My waiter and the staff are top notch, couldn't be better. The menu has some terrific choices and I went for the chicken biscuit with egg and sausage gravy. Here's the tick and where the 5th star was lost. The chicken was a balled up misshapen lump, the poached egg was just placed next to the desired chicken and they applied the smallest amount of sausages grave allowable by law to call it a sausage biscuit. I ate it and it was okay but they dropped the ball on this presentation. And for the cost they could have provided more than 1 egg. Disappointed but not disgruntled. The place is popular. The prices were reasonable and they have a lot of unique options we've never seen before. Their rum cake french toast is super good, the French toast had lemon and it was a nice surprise! Personally if get the sauce on the side because it's on the sweeter side (but that's just me). The Chilaquiles we're really really good as well and I would for sure get them again. Went on a Saturday morning and did the check in ahead on their website, highly recommend that path as we were able to walk in and be seated, super simple. Food was delicious and came out quickly. Bacon was perfect crispness, I was slightly concerned it wouldn't be since it is baked but it was perfection. Side of fruit was big and gad a lot of variable fruits which was a plus. Mango could've been river though. Portion sizes were so big we couldn't finish all of it and did not need lunch later. Only downside was the booth seats were a little tight for two people to sit side by side even when people are smaller. Ask for a table instead and you'll be fine. This has always been my favorite place to get breakfast or brunch and the food always comes out hot and fresh regardless of what I'm eating that day. There pancakes are huge and if you're subscribe to there email, they'll send you a coupon for free pancakes on your birthday. I loved using the Yelp waitless to get my name in line to be seated and I highly recommend every one to take advantage since I never had to wait for a table after arriving at the restaurant. Once seated, they brought out some biscuits beignets since my friend never been here before and they were really good. I ended up getting the Shrimp 'N Grits which I can say they must've master the art of making grits since they were smooth and delicious. I didn't realize there were sausage in the grits, but it gave it a spicy taste which I like. The service has always been good which makes me want to come back even more. read more

This is the first time I visited this specific location and pleased to say everything was still the same as the other locations. This time I tried their cinnamon roll French Toast with bacon and eggs. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The wait time was about 10 minutes for me and the staff was very polite and checked to make sure I didn't need anything. The restaurant itself is very clean and you can choose to dine inside or outside. Overall I recommend this place to anyone that loves a good breakfast/ brunch spot. read more
