Good breakfast spot nothing to uncommon service was good and the food was good I would go back if I'm in town again.

Let me start things off with - this was a great location...per Waze to get us to the exact spot. We must have arrived shortly after they opened on a Sunday morning! Walked in the door greeted by a friendly hostess (a waitress came up to scold her about something, however the hostess remained professional.) We could tell that it was a friendly coworker banter however possibly not the place to do it in front of guests walking in to the establishment (especially when new people walk in - may give an incorrect impression.) We were seated and told our waitress would be over shortly. And sure enough the waitress come to the table rather quickly. She took our beverage order and away she went to get them. While she was away we did have a chance to not only look over the menu, we also took in the atmosphere of the dining room. When the waitress returned she simply said "what do you want?" Hmm, I have been to restaurants that have a "snarky" tone because that is the ambiance of the restaurant and that is what management encourages. However that is not the feel of what we'd observed around the dining room. We gave our orders to which nothing was written down (found that strange, yet in the back of my mind that could be a strong skill of wait staff - yet there is room for error.) My husband and I just looked at each other and smiled; as the waitress who still has not smiled at us yet. Now on to the food... we ordered Apple Fritter French Toast, eggs and Baked Bacon, Mock Mojito, House made Sausage, Traditional Day, with Hashbrowns. Needless to say grits were brought out instead of the potatoes, yet the waitress (once pointed out) brought potatoes. The food was exquisite! Mouthwatering even before eating a morsal. Smelled delicious without having to put our noses toward the plates! And once we began eating - what we imaged the food would taste like - it did not disappoint! The Apple Fritter French Toast - looked like it would be overly sweet, however it was not. It was ordered without the powered sugar. Just simply melted in my mouth! The baked bacon delicious with good chew, texture and flavor. However the Star of the meal....those Home Made Sausage!!!!!! So flavorful and well seasoned. They looked like mini hamburgers. Nice crust on the outside and the smell of the sausage just took you to another place. The Mock Mojito was refreshing! The mixologist did a fabulous job of presenting the beverage. For food we give it high marks! Just needs a little work on customer hospitality throughout. We sort of chalked the somber customer service of our waitress as possibly just had a rough start to her morning. Because just before we left - we did see her crack a smile. Oh, one other thing. It should be announced to customers to pay the waitstaff at the table - because we went to the door to pay, only to find out the waitstaff takes the payment. Some untrustworthy people may have just kept on walking out the door and not paid or tipped. Good experience, and when we get back to TN we will definitely have this Breakfast Jewel on our radar! read more

Came here with friends (Feb 13, Galentine's Day) for Brunch. We placed ourselves on the waiting list for 11:30AM and only had to wait 10-15 mins after to be seated. The restaurant was honoring the social distancing and wearing of masks guidelines. We ordered a pitcher of The Strawberry St. Germain Mimosa (you can get 4 flutes (give or take) out of it) and it was delicious with the right amount of champagne, fruit, and flavoring. I ordered the Lobster & City Grits (seasonal item) + a side of The Maple Apple Chicken Sausage and it was very good. The only complaint I have is that the bacon (within the Lobster & City Grits) was too soft (as I like mine a little more well done). Two of my other friends ended up ordering the same thing as I and they enjoyed their meal as well. Their only complaint was the small portion of garlic bread that came with the meal. The last friend ordered Grilled Chicken & Waffles + a Side of Grits. It definitely was a healthier spin on the classic meal but she enjoyed her meal. Overall, we had a great time with good food! Cute space for a chain. Went with a coworker at ~8:00 on a Tuesday morning and were seated easily. The meal took longer in coming than I expected for how quiet the restaurant was when we ordered. The menu was richer than I prefer in the morning, but they had a few lighter options. I went with the one you'd expect to find at any diner in America (Traditional Day Starter, pictured) and they did a perfectly good job with it. There's plenty of ways to screw up eggs over easy, bacon, grits, and an English muffin, and I'm happy to say they didn't do any of them. The wait staff were friendly and attentive, but disappeared at the end of our meal. Normally not a problem, but more frustrating when we had to make a 9:00 appointment. Easy enough to flag down another waitress for our check, though. read more

Dined here with a friend for my fav (the shrimp and grits) I would say this time, the food was decent. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles, which they loved. To add, we both ordered a champagne Moscow mule, which was highly suggested from our server. Highly recommend. The downside was the service was tremendously slow. My niece came into town from STL, so we wanted breakfast at a place she doesn't have in STL. Therefore, we landed at ABEC. We put our name on the Waitlist before going, so we timed our arrival. We only waited about 8 minutes before being called to be seated. We enjoyed the atmosphere. I loved the smell and taste of the coffee. That always draws me in. Love it. We get comfortably spaced from other diners; the cafe was clean, and the staff was very nice and attentive. Once our food came out, we were able to enjoy it all with no mishaps with the order. I had the Sunrise Omelette with pancakes and grits. The niece had the Napoleon Temptation. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The Rum Butter sauce with the NT meal was really good. We couldn't finish all it. I guess our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. Naturally, I recommend this cafe for others to try. Reserve or place your name on the waitlist and then enjoy. read more

It has been a while since I had been to another broken egg, so yesterday's visit made for a perfect review. They are true to brunch standards and close at 2pm. I started my visit on the patio..there were heaters so the Temps outside didn't ruin the experience. In.the end, I ended up reading at the bar The bartender was friendly. I'm disappointed that this location has good reviews because I heavily relied on that. I would never come back. Being an avid mug collector from traveling, we'd never been to Memphis before so came in to eat and buy our mug on the way into town. We were first sat at a table that was dirty. The silverware that was brought for us was literally put in a puddle of water. It was awkwardly quiet on the patio as well so due to both of these things we moved to the bar... which also had wet marks all over it. Here we waited about 15 minutes to be greeted. Long story short it took us about 35 minutes to get water and about 50 for our drinks and food. When the food came out, it wasn't even the dish that I ordered. I just took it since everything was going how it was. The cherry on top was they wouldn't even sell us a mug. Not that we want to remember this experience anyways. Went in today for a girls day brunch while we had a friend visiting. This place has a very "small town florida diner" feel to it. Tables are super close to each other and it was SO packed inside but began getting a little calmer towards 1pm or so. We literally waited for our food for an HOUR. I ordered the crab cake Benedict, and I probably should have ordered something else considering we are a land locked state after all... crab cake bennys are amongst one of my favorites, and typically a go-to whenever I go out for brunch. This one, unfortunately, was not very good. I also asked our server for no red peppers and to sub with red onions instead on top of the hollandaise, however, turns out the hollandaise had some red pepper inside of it as well which also ended up ruining my appetite a bit. I wish I was told the hollandaise contained red pepper so that I could have ordered something different. Our server was nice, but I think he was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of people there because he brought one of us coffee and we had to wait about 15 minutes till we saw him again to ask for cream and sugar. The coffee wasn't the worst but definitely wasn't good. He also just kept us waiting for what seemed like ages at certain times, but like I said, I think he was just overwhelmed with all the occupants. Food wise, this place is nothing special. We were going to order mimosas but after seeing the size of them versus the price, we opted to not. We also ordered some beignets. Whilst they weren't exactly what we imagined, they're not terrible. Their orange marmalade is DELICIOUS though! Overall, I paid almost $16 for 2 crab cake bennys I didn't enjoy at all and a side of potatoes which were okay. Probably won't return unless it's for a quick order of beignets because they were very fair/cheap priced for what you get. The search for the perfect brunch spot in Memphis continues! read more

Food was okay, not great, not horrible, service was horrendous. No utensils provided even after food was served and waitress was missing and later kept forgetting to provide utensils after asked more than once...food getting cold as we waited...no coffee refill provided, couldn't get the bill to pay...what a shame but truly not worth stopping by! Friends had been there before and swear it was not as bad as our visit but didn't seem to have any leadership present or maybe just waiting for breakfast rush to leave? read more

They had to be short staff because we were seated but waited awhile to be served.But once we ordered and received our food it was actually worth it because the food was so freaking good.It was my lovebug(husband or ball and chains) first time and judging from the crumbs nearly in his nostrils his food was good too My only complaint is that they need more staff because the staff seemed so tired but they managed to smile which made it all worth while. read more

here now, 1:03pm 7/5/2021 Checked in at 10:39, went to target, Best Buy to kill time. Seated at Noon. Server took our order and has not said a thing to us about our order until I asked for her to come to the table. She now says order will be out in just a minute. I truly believe she forgot to put our order in. Everyone that was seated after us has had their breakfast and left. The restaurant is not crowded as when we arrived, so I'm really not sure what the hold up is. 1:15 still no food. Stopped here on our way back to Oklahoma after getting gas. From walking to the door to getting our table it was quick because there were just a few people in there. The hostesses were not very friendly, they all just looked unhappy. Our server was kind-ish... She wasn't sure if she sure if she should be friendly or not. I'm really glad that they allowed me to order from the kids' menu because I can't eat big portions. We sat there for about 7 minutes before someone approached us. We didn't get water until after getting our food even though the straws had been there. UPDATED REVIEW: After giving this Cafe a second shot, we were pleasantly surprised with our experience! We went at about noon on a Thursday and only had about a 15 minute wait. The manager Jamika was super attentive and made certain that our experience was better than the first time. Our server Jessie was extremely upbeat and sweet! She is very knowledgeable on the menu and helped a ton! I ordered the three-cheese veggie omelette. It was incredible! The brie and goat cheese make for the best possible cheese combination! The omelette was beautifully topped with spinach, tomato, and mushroom! Everything was very well balanced and light. It came with an option of bread on the side. We also ordered a pancake trio flight. The buttermilk pancakes were great as expected, and the lemon blueberry goat cheese pancake was actually incredible! It's stuffed with blueberries and topped with the perfect amount of creamy goat cheese and whipped cream! My boyfriend ordered the country fried steak benedict. He said that the meatless gravy was amazing and could not stop talking about it! He usually doesn't like country fried steak, but he loved this one! His mom ordered the cinnamon toast french toast, and loved it as well! Unfortunately I did not get a chance to snap a picture, but the presentation was beautiful! Well worth the wait!! Sunday Brunch with friends was a nice gathering at ABE. The wait was long, The seating was close and the staff was wonderful! Our party of six enjoyed omelets, eggs, English muffins, city grits, regular grits ( they reportedly needed salt) and pancakes. The food was delivered hot and ready for eating. I ENJOYED the shrimp and grits along with a bowl of fresh fruit. The shrimp and grits were yummy and filled with shrimp and andouille sausage along with a plethora of wonderful seasonings that brought this dish to a wonderful spicy level. The fresh bowl of watermelon, black berries, blueberries and strawberries was refreshing and the perfect compliment to the spicy shrimp and grits. We look forward to ANOTHER visit!!! read more

Arrived at 10:28am waited until 10:57am. Our party of 4 that incl 2 small children was seated at 11am. Ordered food at 11:05am didn't get food until 11:58am. My husband's food came 10mins after the rest of our food. So he waited an hour & 10mins for his food. Order was wrong & we complained to a manager who provided a small discount. Wasn't that packed as a large party that came in after us received their food before we did along with several other tables. Our order was not complicated & no special requirements. Waitress only came twice to refill kids drinks & to bring food after almost an hour of waiting. She provided no updates on food nor to check on if we were ok. Not to mention a worker stormed out of the kitchen yelling & cursing, slamming the tablet on the counter & then screamed out "F*%k this MF'ing place." Visited this location on Black Friday 2022. We arrived right as they opened. We were greeted and waited on immediately. The service was excellent and food was great as always . I had the gravy and biscuit with bacon and grits. My daughter had the Mardi Grad omelette with city grits. She said it was amazing. I love their coffee, it's one of the best cups of coffee around! We took a large party here for brunch on Sunday morning. They did a great job accommodating our group and the service was excellent. Not pictured were the beignets which were very good. The mardia Gras omlette was great. My hashbrown Benedict was ok - a little dry and dense for me and the ham pieces were small. The portion size great and maybe this was a one off. Beware. Their "virtual waitlist" is in fact not a virtual waitlist. When you show up at the designated time you're put behind everyone else. So while they say there is a virtual waitlist, it doesn't actually put you in line. You're better off going there and dealing with the wait. TWO TIMES back to back we've had issues. The first they gave us someone elses order which unfortunately I was allergic too and couldn't eat. Called to alert them and they basically told to get over and move on. Today we order our food and wait for an hour before the restaurant told the Dasher they were out of what we wanted - unclear if it was the entire order or one specific item- and that we should cancel. I asked if we could replace it with something else.no answer. I called the restaurant directly, the woman on the phone confirmed they did have my order and we were not sold out lf anything. No one told my dasher that. I asked okay so where is my order . While on a 10 MINUTE HOLD, the RESTAURANT CANCELED MY ORDER!?! And the young woman never returned to the phone. Terrible service. Love the COVID protocols set in place! They also did really well with supplying bottled water due to Memphis's waterline situation. Their biscuits and beignets are sublime, and they come with a honey side that complements it perfectly. The reason I gave three stars is because of the eggs benedict... They were just edible. The hollaindaise tasted like really bland cheese sauce. I always say a restaurant should never offer benedict if they can't make good hollaindaise. At least use store-bought so it'll have taste. Also, the poached eggs were completely solid. Overcooked by probably three minutes Tomatos weren't fresh either but not really complaining about that. The bacon was really good though! First time visit and it was great. I ordered the spinach and bacon omelet without onions. Very tasty and cooked to perfection. Had a side of potatoes as well, and side of bacon as well and I enjoyed it very much. Wife tried the pancakes and they were very good. Service was good. Our server was pleasant and nice. She may have been new or busy because she didn't come back for coffee refills as often as I wanted but that wasn't a major issue.
