I read bunch of "unfriendly" to foreigners reviews! I am Russian/ Ukrainian and came in with my Venezuela finance, we spoke Spanish entire time and every staff member treated us well. I have no idea what these people are talking about , I think Americans are just used to ass kissing which is not customary I'm Ukraine or Russia Food and prices are great , we live in Florida where Russian/Ukrainian food is super expansive so y'all need to stop complaining and appreciate this Gem .

or in English: "poppy cake"

Ann's Bakery & Deli is a neighborhood hot spot. Always bustling, with the ambiance of a rushed, yet welcoming atmosphere that would give the kindest neighborhood babushka a run for her money. Upon walking in you are greeted with the smell of the bustling bakery in the back and the Kvass staring at your parched lips right as you walk through the door. Farther down, the deli and the cold-cut meats await the eyes of someone looking for a taste of home or hoping to replicate momychka's signature dishes. As you meander deeper into the store, you encounter whole smoked fish that may deter some Americans, but if you were to pair it with the Kvass you grabbed when you took less than 5 steps into the store; your taste buds will travel over 5,000 miles away to Ukraine. Don't let the bakery and deli take up all of your expenses, save some cash for the imported candies that would make Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory selection seem more boring than vanilla ice cream. The customer service is exceptional. If you have kids they will be greeted with welcoming smiles, playfulness, and for the best behaved , candy. If you're an adult, be prepared for a professional direct, concise, and terse interaction at checkout. Time is money, don't take too much of it at the register since the store is rarely empty. Ann's Bakery & Deli is perfect to visit if you're just traveling through town or are a Chicago native. Slava Ukraini.

Been shopping here for over 25 years with no problems, except for recent. I purchased a apple cake- torte and while eating it found a piece of plastic, disgusting. I don't think will buy again. They really should be more careful.

The service and the products are the worst I've ever experienced in any places in US. I ordered Napoleon cake for my birthday and as soon as I cut it, I smelled an awful smell of old margarine, the cake was absolutely dry and smelled like it was so old. They definitely don't know the recipe of normal Napoleon. But that wasn't it. When we called to the store to complain with the cake, the owner was so rude with us, and told us that "nobody complained with the cakes before" and "if you don't like it it's your problem". I hope this place will be set on fire once. Cause it's an awful place I've ever been at. And , remember that Karma is a bitch.

This place is fantastic. Fresh bread. Excellent butter. Great deli meats. A nice selection of foods from Eastern Europe. You can't beat it.

For my graduation cake, I chose the tres leches and it was so creamy, moist, and delicious. I basically ate half of the cake by myself lol. This most recent time, I needed a snack and wanted something sweet. Everything here looks amazing and I'm sure tastes amazing too, so it's hard to choose. I chose to get the berry chantilly cake slice since it was a hot day, and it was the perfect refreshing treat! It was soooo good.

We got two cupcakes to share -- the purple velvet and the main squeeze. The purple velvet is ube butter cake, ube mousse, and ube cake crumbs. The ube flavor is both sweet and nutty and the mousse topping was light and delicious. The main squeeze is lemon cake filled with lemon curd, cream cheese frosting, and a buttercream lemon on top. Both were incredible, but my favorite was the lemon! I loved that the lemon flavor was light, and the cream cheese frosting balanced it out really nicely. The space is so cute inside! It's also a lot larger than I was expecting. We grabbed a seat at one of the tables inside to enjoy our treats. I will definitely be back with my toddler for a cupcake date soon!

Believe the hype. Such a cool place with great Filipino food & pastries…read more We usually get there around 8am or so. They open at 9. The line starts around then or earlier. I get the egg, cheese,& hash brown sandwich. The fluffy egg is magic. Potato bun is soft. Hash brown is crispy. The Ube latte is delicious hot or iced. But the star of the show is the pastries. That huckleberry basque is my favorite. Fast, friendly service. The outdoor patio is adorable. They bring your food out to you. Oh yeah, they stop some of the breakfast items at noon though. Go early.

By the time I completed my order, the pickup time was 12:15pm. However, it's nice to order from wherever you are and know what time to swing by for your pickup. When I got there, the line wasn't as crazy as I've seen photos of, but it was still long. You get to walk inside past the line for online pick up. There's a sign on the counter. They make any drinks you order fresh when you get there, and it's really quick too! Service was very friendly and fast inside! The ube latte was one of the best ube flavors I've had in an ube latte before. Highly recommend! I had it iced. The pork belly adobo (only available on weekends I think) was a little disappointing. It's very possible it wasn't that great because it might've been sitting a few minutes before I picked it up and then it was 15-20 minutes uber back to my hotel to eat it. Food is always better when eaten fresh, so I don't fault them for it. The egg was perfectly cooked. I thought the pork belly would be cut in bigger chunks like their photos online, but they were cut very small. I want to try the breakfast sandwich next time I'm in town. The chocolate chip cookie with dark and white chocolate was big, soft, and yummy. I also got the banana tart which was SO good. It was not what I expected, but the flavors and textures were spot on. They have some benches on the side of their restaurant so if you do online order for pickup, I'd recommend trying to grab a spot there and eat the food fresh. I would recommend the baked goods and ube latte, not sure about the hot food until I can go back and try more menu items.

This is a fast casual spot so service was pretty fast. There is a decent amount of seating, most of which was surprisingly taken around 11am on a Thursday. For starters, they no longer have their rainbow cake! I was surprised to hear that considering how popular it's supposed to be. We got both banana lattes which were extremely sweet. It's basically dessert with a hint or caffeine. I'm a big fan of banana, so I actually liked this but I would've preferred half the sweetness. The Turkey Bacon & Egg Croissant was so good! A solid breakfast sandwich - the eggs were cooked perfectly, the turkey bacon was insanely crispy, and that sambal aioli was just what this needed. I highly recommend adding Avocado like I did for some freshness & creaminess since it's a heavy sandwich as is. The Cinnamon Roll was soft, moist, and not overly sweet. Overall, I really enjoyed this breakfast!

Glorious. One-of-a-kind. Amazing. Definitely some of the best pastries I've had in Chicago…read morerecently. If you haven't made it over to Sugar Moon yet, it's well worth a trek out of the way! We visited around noon on a Sunday, and after reading the reviews here, I wasn't optimistic there would be many pastries left. Maybe I should play the lottery, because luckily there was no line and a pretty good selection of pastries left. The staff were super friendly and there were so many unique flavors of baked goods. We decided to split several and opted for the blueberry cloud cookie, chai cinnamon roll, banana pudding croissant, espresso cornflake cookie, and potato focaccia. The shop was more of a small take-out operation, so we took the pastries to a nearby park to eat. Everything was absolutely divine! The group favorite was the focaccia- the creamy potatoes and cheese brought a rich flavor that was perfectly balanced by the fluffy bread. The chai roll was perfectly soft and delicately spiced, completed with that soft cream cheese frosting and gooey center we all like to see. My personal favorite was the banana pudding croissant- the dough was so crispy that I'm pretty sure others could hear the bite, and there was a generous amount of filling with fresh bananas and visible vanilla beans in the whipped cream. The espresso cookie was super soft- while I couldn't taste the espresso very clearly, I absolutely *loved* the caramel-coated cornflakes topped with sea salt. Super unique and would definitely order again. Despite their decadent appearances, none of the pastries were too sweet. Already plotting a return visit and can't recommend this shop enough!

I tried their banana pudding croissant and raspberry scone. The croissant melted in my mouth, it was so flakey and buttery. The raspberry scone was soft and sweet enough. Awesome spot in Logan Square! One of my favorite bakeries in Chicago.
