Matthew's Plumbing Solutions - Raleigh Plumber

Matthew's Plumbing has done some work for us before, a PRV and a water heater replacement. I had…read morethem come today to check for a leak which I was pretty sure didn't exist. The city of Raleigh refuses to check their water meter or replace it without an invoice from a plumber. Our water bill was higher than usual the last few months. I did a toilet leak test and found no leaks. Nothing else on the property showed a leak. I called the water department and they were less than helpful. Despite our bill going DOWN after turning ON our sprinkler system, they insisted there was a leak. Matthew's Plumbing sent two guys out who listened to the story, checked the meter as I did, checked the crawl space (no leaks) and listened to me complain about the water department. I was expecting to pay $200+, instead they only charged me $75. These people are honest. I was upset enough that I would have paid the $200 or more had they asked me to do so. Today's visit is why I'll keep doing business with them.

Matherw's refuses to take responsibility and even BILLED US TO FIX IT! insurance is suing them for us. STAY AWAY. They do NOT stand by their work!

Well, Brian's plumbing did an excellent job of installing our hot water heater. Previously they…read morehave done the installation of our well pump a few years ago. This is my go- to plumbing company. The installer arrived at the arranged time and the cost was right in line with similar plumbing companies in the area.

I found Brian via Craig's List. I had a leak in an outdoor hose-bib (faucet). It was a very…read morestraightforward job. The water to the house needed to be turned off, hose-bib removed, new hose-bib installed. It took Brian approximately 20 minutes to complete. I know because I was in the house finishing an exercise routine that ran for about the same amount of time. We chit-chatted 5-10 minutes before the job. So maybe he was there for 30 minutes. I know plumbers can charge anywhere from $65-$100 an hour. I had not asked him what he charges before he started the job. He billed me $180 plus $31.25 for the new outdoor faucet. He claimed that he charges $85 for a "site call". and $95 per hour. I tried reasoning with him. My opinion was that the "site call" fee should be part of the first hour of work. To no avail. His response was that I should have asked how much he charged before I had him do the work. I was very calm and explained that no other plumbers charge that much. He challenged me to call Cecil Pluming, the plumbers that installed the original hose-bib on the house. He said, call them and see what they would charge you. I didn't want to use them because I thought they were too much. But fine, I called them and put them on speaker phone with Brian and my wife in the room so we could all hear the phone conversation. The lady from Cecil plumbing quoted me $102 per hour, plus $50 or so for the parts. She estimated that it would not take more than an hour to change a hose-bib if it were no complications. Even after proving to him that he was gouging me and his prices were way too high for a craigslist job - he would not budge on the price. I paid the fee, but told him I was very dissatisfied and that I could not recommend him to anyone. I said it's good to have a fee policy, but sometimes a fee policy is not commensurate with the work and time performed on the job and that the fees should be adjusted accordingly in those situation's. I also explained that we are a very close neighborhood and word gets around regarding unfair contractor practices. He said he understood where I was coming from, but he felt charging $211.25 to change out a an outdoor faucet in 30 minutes was a fair deal.
