While the seating situation is a little tight and can be loud at times, this little restaurant has a delicious assortment of food that's sure to please everyone in the family. Service is super quick, not overly overly friendly, but food comes out fast and very hot. My family ordered the chicken momos as an appetizer which were delicious. My mom had the vegetarian soup and she ate everything to the last drop. My dad got the bartha lamb- while good he noted that it wasn't spicy at all even though he requested it to be a medium and wasn't heavily spiced. I ordered the chicken tikka and wow the amount of chicken they give you is incredible- there's so much! My only complaint is that because the chicken breasts were so large, the pieces were drier than expected. Anyone from Asia would expect something more flavourful than something like bland cauliflower. They used to be really really good and have good portions and high-quality. But, I think they have kind of gone downhill now that they've been takeout only and you can't really see what you're getting until you get home and open up the bag. Recently we ordered a chicken dinner that literally only had three cubes of chicken for the whole meal. It was actually shocking! So portions are significantly smaller and the prices are higher and the quality doesn't match the increase in cost. Annapurna continues to be my family's go to restaurant when we are visiting my brother in Seattle. In the seven days we were in Seattle, we ate dinner here four times. We love that it caters to both vegans and meat eaters. I branched out of my usual Annapurna curry and got the soup and sambar appetizer, which is so delicious and so so filling. I also got the crispy potato appetizer, which is also so good. Everyone at the restaurant is so nice and friendly, knowledgeable about the (very large!) menu, and food is served quickly. You may recognize Annapurna Cafe as the source of the lingering, hunger-inducing smell of spices in the Capitol Hill light rail stop. Follow your nose up the escalator, to the left, into the building, down the stairs, and into a steaming bowl of something delicious. While most reviews seem to refer largely to the Indian dishes here, I've had the most success sticking to Nepalese and Tibetan selection. The spinach momos are essentially little pillows of dreamy goodness with an array of uniquely delicious dipping sauces. The fried eggplant curry entree I can't remember the name of is one of the savoriest, most complex flavors I've had and it's hard not to order it every time. The selection of vegetarian curries (or house curries that can be made vegetarian) is pretty incredible and outpaces all of the competition in the neighborhood. On my last visit, I got the Annapurna curry at spice level 3 and I understand why it's the best seller - rich and complex with a serious kick. Sadly, Annapurna is facing a move as their building is being torn down to make way for more boxy condos. This place is great! Met a few people here for dinner. They wouldn't seat us until our whole group was there but we were able to get on a list. Once everyone arrived we were seated right away. The place is a little cramped but that just means more people get to try this great food! Everything we had was so good. I got the chicken Tikka Masala, my friend got the lamb curry, and there were some other dishes ordered too. Each dish came out with separate rice and the entrée which made it ideal for sharing. First, I am sad because I've spent YEARS not eating curry because the first time I tried it I hated it and thought that meant I hated curry. It's downstairs in a basement that is well lit on one side (to the right, noisier, slightly bigger) and darker on another side (to the left, smaller, quieter). The first time the greeter almost told us they had a wait and before it even finished coming out of her mouth someone I took to be the manager came over and gave her a solution. BOSS move - awesome! We sat and got our orders taken and delivered FAST! This place was full capacity and our food came out in what felt like record time! I had the piña colada frozen drink, great. We also got naan, delicious and the calamari, SO GOOD! My husband is a calamari maniac so he orders it any time it's on the menu. That means I try A LOT of calamari and 9 out of ten times I'll let him finish it. Don't hate calamari but more often than not I'll eat one or two pieces max. UNLESS ITS REALLY GOOD! This place has really good calamari! Dipping sauce was delish. For my main course, I got the goa chicken curry not spicy with basmati rice. If you're trying curry for the first time or need a dish to change your mind, HERE IT IS! Their goa curry was delisssssshhhh! So good my husband got it the second night and we agreed it was better than all of the other dishes we tried collectively. Husband had it with lamb though. The other courses not to be understated though, they were also good! But the Goa Curry was standout for both of us. 10/10 The only confusing thing is they seem to have a system where multiple people are just checking on multiple tables so there was a lot of people asking things about steps that had already taken place (Ready to order? While visiting Seattle, we wanted to visit Annapurna Cafe after reading that it is a hidden gem. It is!! From the outside, it doesn't look like anything special but once you get inside, you remember to not judge a book by its cover. We were greeted and placed our drink orders. We ended up ordering the calamari appetizer, lamb saag naan, and shrimp chow chow (noodles). I'm dairy free (my husband isn't). Everything that we ordered was milk and butter free except the naan. They also brought us some complimentary chips of some sort with 2 dipping sauces (green and red). While the waiter indicated the chips were dairy free, another waiter told me (after I had eaten the green sauce that it indeed had milk in it). Everything that we had was phenomenal. Though I ordered the chow chow medium in heat, it was spicy. I didn't mind it but my husband said he thought it was too hot. The saag had a perfect heat level and my husband ordered it medium as well. The staff was wonderful, several came by our table to make sure we had everything we needed. I've heard many good things about Annapurna and, after trying it for the first time, it did not disappoint. It's across from the Capitol Hill light rail station, so it's easily accessible by public transit. Otherwise, you'll have to try your luck with street parking. It's kind of hidden down some stairs and the restaurant is really cozy and fun. Great ambiance for a small or slightly larger party. The menu is pretty vast and features Indian food you're used to, including all the greatest hits, and Nepalese/Tibetan cuisine as well. There's a lot to choose from and it can be overwhelming to decide. Our waiter suggested the chicken vindaloo and the malai kofta, which were excellent! My friend and I wanted to stray from our usuals and these were both great choices. I loved the malai kofta, which is basically little dumplings in a creamy tomatoy sauce. I would get that every time! We maybe got a little too enthusiastic with the spice level - more noticeable in the vindaloo. Of course, we got garlic naan, which is a super generous piece, and we started the meal off with chicken momos - a must if you come here. I love that their curries come with rice, so you don't have to order it separately. Prices are reasonable - expect $20-25 a person, which I think is pretty typical of Indian food. Pleasantly surprised at Annapurna Cafe! Super random place located in Cap Hill right next to the light rail station. As you walk down the narrow stairwell to the basement of Annapurna, you are greeted with some interesting decor and delicious smells from the kitchen. I would of liked an actual person to greet us, but the inviting aromas will do. We came during lunch rush hour, so there were lots of people inside, and it was little noisy to be honest. The tables seemed to be too small to accomodate the load of food we ordered, but the service was great once we were seated. We were seated promptly upon arriving, and were a little overwhelmed at how many options there were. I came with my 3 other coworkers, and ended up sharing 3 dishes so we could try a little bit of everything. Being from India, the menu seemed pretty typical to me (Himalayan cuisine, so it's Indian food with a different influences from neighboring regions). I also couldn't help, but eat with my hands, but is it just me or does the food taste better that way!? We got the: Nepalese Chicken Curry, Goat Curry, and Baingan (eggplant). Both curries had great flavor, but the portions were tinier than expected for the cost. The chicken was not my favorite and the chicken was slightly overcooked. Goat is hands down my number one favorite kind of meat, so I was very happy with that dish. The goat had some great tender pieces and some slightly undercooked ones. We also got the Baingan, which was literally a large piece of well-cooked eggplant with curry poured over it. It was a little bit of a strange dish, but was delicious nonetheless. I went here for dinner last Sunday with a friend. We came in and were promptly seated. That said, we came to the restaurant at 4:15 for a post-hike late lunch / early dinner. I can't vouch for what the wait is like normally. Inside the restaurant, the interior decor is really nice. The soft lighting is atmospheric without being excessively dark. The red and yellow walls are decorated with photos of Nepal and there are prayer flags hanging from the ceiling. Even the cups--small metal goblet-looking things--complimented the overall vibe of the place. I've never been to Nepal, but I went to Shangri-La along the border of Tibet a few years ago, and Annapurna definitely reminded me of that part of the world. As for food, we ordered... Mango Lassi -- Pretty good but not amazing. I would say it was pretty typical for a South Asian restaurant. Tensing Momos -- 6 piece traditional chicken dumplings served with assorted chutneys. We decided to order this based on other reviews on Yelp, and they did not disappoint. The dumplings were really tasty. I'm generally of the opinion that any dumplings not made of pork are heresy, but these were an exception. Would definitely recommend. Chicken Tikka Masala -- I was famished after our hike and pretty tired, so I decided to be basic and get something I was familiar with. Unfortunately, I didn't think it was that great. It was a bit too sweet for my taste, and not as good as the tikka masala I've had at other places. Annapurna Curry -- This is what my friend ordered. I had a taste and think it was probably better than the tikka masala. Hard to say. It wasn't particularly memorable, but it was good. My friend seemed to like it. One nice thing is that when we ordered, we originally wanted to get a sampler platter on top of everything else (it would have been an extra ~$25) but the waiter told us it would be too much food so we didn't. I don't think I've ever been down-sold before, so I thought that was very nice of him. Bonus points for honesty. TL;DR I thought the ambience in the restaurant was really nice. We waited 20 min, got denied by 3 waitress to take out order, then finally this guy finally came and took our order! Now, let's talk about the food. We ordered the Himalayan, Annapurna, and chicken marsala. The Himalayan was disappointing, hard to describe it. The taste is almost there, but didn't get there. It's just not flavorful enough. Recently went in for happy hour. First I was asked to go downstairs if I wanted food which confused me. I ordered tandoori bites, which despite being on the menu they didn't have. I ordered two things that were about 7 or 8 bucks each and two teas for a buck each. Food was fine. When the bill came they added a service charge and gratuity for a party of one!! My bf and I have been here a few times, and our favorite is definitely their goat curry! We've also had both the chicken and spinach momos. I enjoyed both, though my bf enjoyed the chicken momos more. We've also had the mango paneer curry with lamb, though a bit on the sweeter side, it's not bad. The Tibetan chicken dumpling soup's soup is great, but he dumplings have thick skins and are kinda on the harder side. The variety sample of Napoli food is very fun to try too. This underground eatery warms my (curry loving) soul in the winter. With blankets, photos of Everest, warm and cozy vibes, Annapurna is an authentic Nepali/Tibetan/Indian restaurant with a wide variety of traditional menu items and specials, including hearty vegetarian and vegan dishes. I had the Himalayan curry with tofu (flavorful, tangy and not too spicy). Option for brown rice available at no extra charge. As an appetizer, my table split spinach momos, which are filled dumplings that come with three delicious sauces. There was a bit of a wait and the food took some time to come out, largely because of how popular this place is and how freshly the food is prepared. Food is pretty good compared to other Indian places. Tikka Masala was on point, the apps were good. Food alone i'd give it 5 stars, BUT ... I want to warn other patrons that this restaurant snuck a mandatory 15% tip charge onto our bill and didn't tell us. We were a family of 4. A large party of 8-10 people - sure I totally get adding tip to the bill. But I travel to Seattle for work monthly and eat out there all the time - I know this isn't common local practice. Other points: -There's no AC, so the place is fairly warm inside on a hot afternoon and it's pretty dark too. -The Diet Coke we ordered came out in a glass as flat as tap water - gross. They replaced it with a glass that had carbonated DC after we asked ... but whoa like did we get someone else's leftover soda? - That bill that came to us with the tricky 15% added charge. I was blown away by this place. It is not fancy, it is, as others have written, downstairs like a large speakeasy from the 1920s. But it is extremely AUTHENTIC -- and the food ridiculously delicious. I started with the mulligatawny soup -- and if you are a lover of this type of soup, you know that no two places make it alike. Here, it was pureed to the consistency of a bisque, creamy and flavorful with spices I'd never experienced before. It also had chicken in it, which I also hadn't had before; it's always been a vegetarian soup in my experience. Chickening it up improved it substantially! We then shared the tensing momos -- oh my gosh, MOMOS. I haven't had authentic momos since I did work in Nepal fifteen years ago -- and these are the real deal. Please do not even think of going there and not having them. They are accompanied by three chutneys: tomato, peanut and green; the green has some heat to it, so I found that combining the peanut and green was the best combination. We then shared the Himalayan curry with chicken, which was outstanding, and garlic naan. Appreciated they gave brown rice as an option instead of jasmine rice. This may sound like a lot of food -- but they didn't rush the dishes, and so this meal, which was enjoyed over 3 hours, was the perfect amount (my friend took some of the leftovers home). We both left feeling satisfied but not like we'd overindulged. And the servers were all great. I can't believe that, in all the years I've been coming to Seattle, I'd never made it to Annapurna before that night! Garlic naan here is to die for. It's so nice and crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. Came here for a casual dinner, all the food options were great. I got the fish Annapurna curry and my friend got the vegetable tikka masala. The cool thing is you can pick what sort of protein you want (tofu, vegetable, chicken, lamb, fish) for every type of dish. My friend and I also split the momo which are the buns and they came with really yummy sauces- peanut sauce was my favorite. The tips are already added on to the bill after the meal so it's convienient as well. The bar upstairs is a great spot to wait because they're owned by the same people so you can bring your drinks from the bar to the restaurant, just have to pay the bar tabs upstairs first. Oh yum!!! I never thought Annapurna would be such a great spot for dining with about 15 people! We ordered all kinds of curries and several orders of Naan and more. And it was all delicious! I was a bit sad that at some point it was easier to just ignore ingredients and stop asking whether things had meat in them or not... but, it was tasty... and eating some meat now and again is kind of smart... so, I went for it. The staff was great and even happy to accommodate our last-minute change in reservation times. (Everyone except me arrived about 30 minutes late. Jen DID call ahead, though. Don't forget to do that if you're ever running very late to a reservation!) We arrived with a numerous party to celebrate a good friend's birthday. We made a reservation and were easily accommodated. We ordered an incredible amount of food. There were several appetizers and various naan, a multitude of curries and main dishes and an assortment of drinks. All of the dishes were well made and tasty. Everyone in our party seemed pleased with their orders. A couple of the standout dishes for me was the Vegan Monk stir-fry and the Palak Paneer, the latter of which I always order on the first visit to any Indian or Pakistani place. The naan breads were excellent. The keema was nicely spiced though we all wished they were a little larger. Some of us became overly warm midway through our meal but it wasn't too stifling. I think it was because we packed a small space with body heat and a lot of laughter. Service was very attentive for our large group and as a nice touch, our birthday girl was treated to a free dessert at the end of our meal. There's supposedly parking in the lot behind the restaurant but all the spaces are marked for another business. Cross your fingers to snag a street spot or just pay at a neighbouring lot. read more

Everything we tried was delicious. Easily the best chicken tikka masala and naan we've ever eaten. Also highly recommend the samosas and the crispy lamb rolls. You will not be disappointed. We can't wait to return to Seattle so we can eat here again. read more

Right after work,friends and me wanted to grab some food and decided to pick Indian as the weather just seemed perfect for some spicy food. However, Annapurna is not punjabi food it's more influenced by Nepali food and the spices are toned down. So if you are Indian and go here to get some Indian tadka, not happening! When we entered here, there were no other customers. We were a group of five people and were seated immediately. The decor is kinda ok but filled with pics of the himalayas, indian women and children, but not too bad. The owner came to come chat with us as we were indian and one of us was from Nepal and she spoke to him in Nepali. Since this place screamed Nepali, we had to have the momos - got both the spinach and the chicken ones - both were good but not great.The sauces that came with the momos were better than the momo itself. However, the samosas were bland , without the chutney they had no salt in the potato filling they had. I was impressed however with how they looked. My friends got the lamb rolls and it was horrible, none of them could eat it. The chicken chili was edible but was doused in a bottle of oil. We haven't had any maincourse dishes here but will we come back here for more, maybe if we were in the area craving for food from the indian sub continent but with absolutely no expectations. This my favorite restaurant in all of Seattle. The chicken tikka masala is to die for as well as their naan. They always have a wait and it's no surprise why! I get the same thing every time because it's just that good. I was so sad they weren't open during stay at home but they're open again for takeout and delivery via DoorDash. Support this local joint!! They're amazing. read more
