In the middle of a plethora of Indian restaurants in this area, Annachikadai stands out for their delicious food and unique menu. The chefs and owners are fantastic. Don't go there for the decor, go there for your taste buds.

    Non Veg Budget Thali

We ordered their non-veg thali. Everything was really good except for the rasam. The cilantro was a bit too slimy (not sure if it went bad). I came here last week during a weekday evening. So not sure if it was a change in chef during the weekday. Service was good and there were seats to dine inside.

A cozy spot serving South Indian Chettinadu cuisine in Mountain View since ages. We've frequented this establishment several times over the years and after a recent visit, I thought I'd finally leave a review. The food and service are great here. I usually go for the Non-vegetarian Thali. Their dosas are fresh and flavorful. Pro tip: ask for the ghee dosa - extra crispy - thank me later. Their Madurai Kari Chicken Dosa and Chicken 65 are my favorite. Their Mutton Chettinadu gravy recently was a disappointment though. If you are craving spicy Chettinadu cuisine - give this place a try

I was so sad ordered 6 items, only ate the FRIES even though we were hungry the food was so bad I threw it. The cut mirch looked like pakora and the MIRCH WASNT IN THE CHAT. I love lamb also threw that away although I tried to like it. I'm just so disappointed.

    Idly with fish curry

We ordered takeout from here. We got Idly with fish curry, Fish 65, and egg kothu paratha. The food is extremely spicy here, so if you can't handle the heat, then stay away from this place. I had to dilute the curry with yogurt to make it palatable, but that's just me; I can't handle the spice. My husband, on the other hand, does appreciate spicy food and enjoyed it. Good selection of items on the menu, and food is usually ready quickly.

I normally don't factor in ambiance unless it's at one of the extremes. We dined in and got one of the tables next to the window. The bottom of the window had a thick layer of dirt. One might say how does it matter as long as it's not on the food. Well, the cutlery they put for self service was dirty as well. I had to dip all the spoons and forks in fresh water and wipe them out before we used them. The restaurant is not large, they barely had about six tables so I couldn't see why they had difficulty maintaining it. By this point I was skeptical of the cleanliness of the kitchen as the dining area was in such a pathetic state. We got some veg and non veg thalis and a plate of chicken 65. As advertised, the thalis came out on steel trays lined with banana leaf. But the rest of the dishes on the leaf were served on plastic and paper cups. The thali came with a South Indian style flaky paratha, rice, Kurma, chole, some vegetable curries, rasam, sambar, yoghurt and a dessert which had food coloring. I could see why the place was popular inspite of the cleanliness of the restaurant, the food was really good. The paratha and Kurma combination was on point, absolutely delectable. I enjoyed the rasam and rice combo as well.

    Cheese Dosa (rating: 4/5)

Heard great things about Annachikadai from my Indian coworker so we were super excited to check it out. In addition to our own entrees, we shared a cheese dosa and a chapathi. I got myself an Annachi Chicken Salina. The Annachi Chicken Salina was overly salty and oily. The chicken was floating on top of oil (see attached photo). Even with chapathi, the chicken was too salty for me to take more than two bites. Can't imagine how much seasoning they put in there. Only thing I appreciate was how spicy it was - probably the spiciest Indian food I've had in a while. Both the cheese dosa and the chapathi received good reviews. The surface of the dosa was slightly more greasy than I preferred, but it was still tasty. We also ordered lentil soup for entrees. The lentil soup was apparently tasty but much lighter than expected (clear instead of thick broth).

10/26/2022 Annachikadai 80 W El Camino Real Mountain View, CA 94040 Went for dinner with wifey on a Wednesday evening. It is in a small ECR strip mall close to Grant Rd./237. There is indoor seating for about 30 people, paper and plastic setups and the menu is via scanning a QR code. There was a lot of take out business while we were there. We ordered the Veg Pakora, Parotta bread, Boneless Chicken Curry (medium) and Boneless Mutton Curry (spicy). Although we were dining in, the curries came take out ready in plastic tubs. The Pakora consisted of julienned vegetables battered and crisply deep fried. It was lightly salted and excellent. Both curries were very tasty with satisfying amounts of protein, lots of sauce and strongly spiced. The heat level was okay for me unless you eat one of the chili peppers. The accompanying bread was nicely flaky. Prices are very reasonable, consistent with the minimalist operation experience. If you are wearing polyester or wool, your clothing (and hair) will acquire the Indian spices odor. Bothered wifey a little but not me. It's a new neighborhood favorite, definite repeat.

    Some of hidden chicken exposed

I tried this little spot this last weekend. My second try at Southern Indian food, I keep reading about how spicy it is compared to other regions. I ordered a samosa chaat and a chicken thokku biryani. I didn't mention spice levels, I just ordered it. My goodness it was spicy! It could have been twice as spicy as it was and it would have been perfect. But yeah, it was spicier than most any other places will give you. It was very good and very flavorful. It was mostly rice, like biryani's tend to be. There was however a solid layer of big fat tender chicken chunks right in the middle of the rice. I was surprised, they did right by me on that aspect of the dish! Thank You guys!!! Oh yeah, the samosa chaat was good too! Good healthy food, but the flavor just had a slight sweetness that annoyed me. I still ate and enjoyed it, but those last few bites I had to force down as the sweetness had overwhelmed my desire to finish the meal. I never had samosa with all that stuff on top of it before then.

Mid week brunch meant a quieter atmosphere and open seating. After perusing the menu we ordered at the counter before sitting at a table after picking up utensils and water. We ordered Fambrini's Breakfast, Brie & Mushroom Omelette, Crab Omelette, and shares the Lotus Biscoff Pancakes. Everyone loved their egg platters. The eggs were perfectly light and fluffy. I generally avoid omelettes getting scrambles instead because restaurants tend to overcook the eggs. Our dishes were prepared with quality and flavor in mind. I personally had the crab omelette and left no crumbs behind. The potatoes were well seasoned and wish I had enough room in my tummy to finish them off! The drip coffee was bold and delicious not watered down at all! Finally, we shared the 2 stack biscoff pancakes for a sweet finish. The pancakes were bouncy with biscoff sauce and a mound of whipped cream. This was mouth wateringly delicious. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but this was so yummy. The dalgona coffee looks amazing but is only okay, I'd maybe try something else. It is definitely Cafe style, where you order and pay at the counter first. They usually help you find seating (which is all outdoors) and bring out the food. From there everything is self-serve, whether that's for utensils or simply getting water. There will be plenty of foot traffic going in and out of the restaurant. My dining companion and I settled in at the counter since the weather was a bit brisk today. Joanie's has been around long enough to wear its old-school vibe with confidence. The service is just fine. Nothing to complain about and nothing to tell write home about. It's a small enough place you are able to flag someone down if you needed something. We both ordered the "Joanie's Breakfast Medley" which includes French toast or two pancakes, two eggs any style, home fries, and your choice of protein (bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, chicken-apple sausage, or ham) for $25.95. We added two coffees, because we are functioning adults who require caffeine to make decisions. The food was fine, it was what a Sunday breakfast should be. I had a bit of a sticker shock when I asked for the bill and saw that it was OVER $75 for two people at breakfast, with tax and tip. I sat there doing the math in my head the way you do when you're hoping the numbers will somehow rearrange themselves into something more palatable. They did not. Now, to be fair, I am fully aware that the cost of ingredients and labor has gone up across the board. I was just operating on an optimistic budget of maybe $60 which I now realize is one of those "back in my day" comments to bore the Gen Zs to tears. If you want a recommendation for something sweet, go straight for the Cherries, Berries and Mascarpone French Toast. The eggs benedict is a reliable choice too, if you're feeling classic. The restaurant is easy to get to as it is located at the corner of California and Ash Street, and there's a large parking structure right next door. Would I go back? Probably, yes. But I will be prepared so that the wallet shock doesn't catch me off guard again.

The two of us were dubious about the Millionaire's Bacon, because it was hyped up to the point where it seemed unlikely that it could live up to the reputation. We were wrong. We ordered the Millionaire's Bacon sampler platter, which is four strips of long, thick pieces of bacon, baked with brown sugar and spices. There is the original, which is brown sugar, cayenne, red, and black pepper, which was sweet, salty, and the perfect amount of spicy. The other slices were orange, cinnamon, and rosemary. My partner enjoyed the orange best, whereas I loved the cinnamon, but we both thought the rosemary was underwhelming. The bacon itself was very thick and meaty with a minimal amount of fat, and was just clearly high quality pork. Truly worth the hype. We also got the bottomless mimosas, which not only had multiple choices of juice (we got raspberry lemonade) but were surprisingly heavy on the champagne. The waiter kept them coming without us needing to ask, to the point where I had to tell him I was done because I was a little too tipsy for breakfast. My partner got the chicken croffle, and was very impressed. I tried the fried chicken (though not the croffle) and it was very well spiced, very crunchy, and well cooked--juicy and tender. I got the big hip, which is deep fried "french toast". I wouldn't call it french toast myself, but it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and came with fresh fruit, butter, and syrup. There wasn't enough syrup for the entire dish, but I asked our waiter for more and he came back with it in less than a minute. On top of the food being as close to perfect as you can get, the service was great. Several different waiters checked in on us throughout the meal, making sure we were enjoying the food and that we didn't need anything else. The vibes of the restaurant are really enjoyable too. The décor is lovely, the sound levels are very reasonable, and everything was spotless during our visit. Overall, I can't recommend Sweet Maple enough, and I'm kind of glad it's not closer to my house because I would go bankrupt with the amount of Millionaire's Bacon I'd buy on a weekly basis.

Cafe Barron has excellent food, but the service experience really dragged things down during a busy…read moremorning. Food (5/5): The food was genuinely delicious. The French toast was fluffy, buttery, and easily one of the highlights. The omelette with cream and mirin really hit the spot, and the breakfast wrap was also excellent. No complaints here. Drinks (3/5): The drinks tasted good, but we ordered them extra hot and they arrived cold, which was disappointing. You are also responsible to pick them up so stay close to the barrista id you need coffee. Ambiance (4/5): The atmosphere is lively and energetic, which gives the place a fun brunch vibe. That said, it can feel overcrowded. The seating is very tight, tables are pushed close together, and the line can get quite long. Service (2/5): This was unfortunately the biggest issue. One of our items was missed in the original order. When I went back to fix it, staff initially entered it as a separate order and told me there wasn't much they could do and that I'd need to pick it up as a to-go order. After multiple conversations, I asked them to simply combine it with our original order and bring it to our table, which they eventually agreed to. When our food arrived, the missing item was still missing. After checking with staff three separate times, we were eventually told they were "doing us a favor" by giving us someone else's to-go item. By that point, we had already finished most of our breakfast and were ready to leave. The staff seemed more focused on explaining how busy they were rather than taking ownership of the mistake, even though the issue started with the original order being missed. Overall, this is a solid 4-star if you go on a quieter day and you don't need much customer service because the food is absolutely worth trying. On a busy day, though, be prepared for a potential 2-star experience, mainly due to customer service.
