I arrived with an absolute emergency of a mess, a cut off all your hair, how did I get here, MESS. Major chemical/product damage, it was not viable. I was fully resigned to a short bob for a complete restart, but she was able to use her skill to come up with what she called a "custom haircut" and that's exactly what it was. Where the texture was once straw/sandpaper, is now silk. I cannot recommend Susan enough! If she can make sunshine come out of THIS experience, I can only imagine what she is capable of working with other clients. It was very kind of all the ladies in the salon to come and give their recommendations as well, I really felt like everyone came together and saved what they could of my hair! Others may feel differently, and I'm not suggesting there was any ill intent. It simply left me feeling that we weren't the right fit. There were also a few comments that came across as dismissive or condescending, though I don't think that was the intention. For example, when discussing the condition of my hair, the delivery felt more like a scolding than guidance. As the saying goes, it's not always what you say, but how you say it. Overall, I found her communication style sharper and more pompous than I personally prefer, and I tend to gravitate toward a warmer, more down-to-earth vibe. Kim is fantastic!…read more After a disastrous experience at Ulta, I came to Yelp in search of somewhere to get a haircut. Trouble was, many places in Marin are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Thank goodness I found Kim on here! I was worried she'd be all booked up on Sunday but I messaged her hoping we could get squeezed in. I got a response in less than an hour! She was able to fit us both in. I'm picky with my hair. I love my length so I really only like to get the split ends trimmed and some layers added to freshen it up. Often I leave salons with less hair than I had hoped, but she knew exactly what I wanted and cut it perfectly! On top of that, she is very friendly. :) She even gave me tips on how to get my stick straight hair to curl. I've not yet had time to try it, but I'm saving those tips for the next time I attempt it. I have finally found a place I like in Marin. I will return here again when it's time for another cut.
