This is a late review but better than never --- We were here about a year ago. Service was terrific. The food came at a good pace. We ordered the 8 course dinner samples. It was a lovely experience to cap off oddly after touring the red light district with my wife and our friends that we randomly picked this restaurant. The food is beautiful and tasty. Lovely place that's not a big place while not a small place but just inviting and delicious. A coworker brought me here and I'm glad. It's more on the $$$$ rather my usual $$ level of dining, but hey you only live once. The menu is pretty tailored in that it's not just a run of the mill set of pairings or pick a steak, choose your sides, and boom... the flavors and plate pairings are crafted. The starter spare ribs in are tender and the sesame hoisin sauce us a tad tangy but sweet. It's different. My steak dish was cooked to perfection. I was very pleased to see my medium well in contrast to my colleague's medium rare and it's apparent that they do well with accurate temperature. The serving staff is very good at what they do. They aren't annoying in the sense they are at the table every 5 minutes yet they know when to come and clear or refill and they look nice. Their attire is neat and pressed. I hate to see fellow service industry folks looking under- welmin. Go check it out. read more

I was in the same group of eaters as Kim V. and as much as I enjoyed the company, I didn't really enjoy where we were. I had a vegetarian amuse bouche which was a few shreds of lettuce, parmesan, a crouton and some green liquid I guess basil oil, which was nothing special. After that I had a vegetarian main course of which I was under the impression that it was a starter given the portion size. But I thought this of all the dishes at our table as we at first had chosen some starters from the menu which apparently somewhere in the process had changed to mains. My dish was good, there where a lot of things on my plate that I normally don't eat but I finished it all. However, as Kim also mentioned her mother's cooking, I'm certain my father could have made this and taken it to the next level. Granted, my dad's a chef but if you don't have the talent or passion for cooking, that certificate doesn't mean anything to anyone. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food, but also had some comments on details in the dishes. Mathias was at least smart enough to order two dishes as he hadn't had lunch. Knowing that we were going to taste all the ice cream at Metropolitan Deli after our dinner made the portion size acceptable, but for a regular meal it wouldn't have sufficed. Also, since when does it cost more to make a vegetarian dish than a duck dish?? I paid twenty five euro's for some ravioli and vegetables whereas the duck cost twenty four euro's. Seems odd to me. Now, my suggestions for improvement at Anna. *Add more vegetarian dishes to your menu! One starter isn't enough and if you decide to give me a dish that isn't on the menu, please let me know in advance. Nobody ever asked the vegetarians (or non-veggies for that matter) if there where any food allergies to take into consideration. Luckily my only allergy is meat, but it may as well have bean corn, courgette or something else on the plate. *Just change the entire interior design, it's cold and impersonal. Or at least add some art, flowers, better lighting, use more friendly materials and just make the place more inviting. Table setting is perfect though, keep that. *A special shout out to the toilet. I love the fact that they use little towels, no paper, no dryer, just towels and a hidden hamper. However, the toilet itself; black and square... It FREAKS me out! Seriously, black toilets are creepy. And with the square shape it was also uncomfortable to sit on. Plus, what happens when the seat breaks? Do they stockpile these things or is the toilet unavailable while they wait for a special square seat to be conjured from somewhere?? So many questions. All unnecessary questions, just get a nice looking toilet with a normal shape and that isn't black. I have officially decided I hate black toilets. So in conclusion, if you have a butt load of money to spend, want small portions of decent tasting food and a nice bottle of wine then Anna is your kind of restaurant. I'd still rather go to a great Italian or French place for similar food with a better ambiance and price. read more

I ate at Anna's with my fellow Yelpers. We had quite a big group (22 people?? Something like that) and were seated at a nice long table. We shared some nice wine and there was water and appetizers on the table. We also got an amuse bouche with salmon which was great and very tasty. The waitress was very friendly and helpful the whole evening. What I think was kinda weird though was that she told us that our group should agree on a few dishes (like 5 different ones) so that we wouldn't be ordering 10 different dishes with our whole group. It would be easier for the kitchen if we all ate the same things or something. But uhhh... isn't the purpose of a restaurant to be filled with people? And all those people are eating different stuff as well right? But okay sure. We votes for our dishes of choice and decided on four different ones. I had the 'Fried wing of skate with beurre noisette, Borlotti beans, red onion compote and cream of piccalilli'. It tasted good for sure but the taste just wasn't anything special. Sure it's probably hard to prepare skate wing but the taste of the whole dish was a bit to recognizable, like something nice my mom would make. That's just not what I expect when I go to a restaurant like this. But it tasted good so I don't know, maybe I'm complaining or something. So I did like Anna, but I wasn't blown away by it. I feel like there are better restaurants where you pay less money. read more

Such a find right in the red light district. We had a table by the window so were able to people watch. Added entertainment. What a fabulous dining experience. Expect to be impressed! Dined here with my fiancé to celebrate his birthday. We came on a Saturday at 6pm and the restaurant was totally empty but filled up. Fantastic and attentive service. And the food. The food! The scallop entrée blew me away. The foie gras and beet appetizer was superb. As was the beef with oxtail ravioli. The presentation matched the super interesting flavors. Add a couple of glasses of very reasonably priced wine, and it was a night to remember. NB: Don't leave before you have a chance to enjoy the well designed (and "hidden") bathrooms downstairs. read more

Between the Dutch food, the ambience and the incredibly friendly owner this is an extraordinary restaurant .. more than that, the food is flavorful and it is healthy and it is good sized portions, and it's authentic. I cannot remember enjoying a restaurant so much. And that was yesterday! Because it was so good I came back again today and had two of the other meals that I didn't have room for yesterday! I didn't know much about Anna, but gave this place a shot after reading rave reviews about the 5 star restaurant online. This was one of my favorite places during my stay in Amsterdam. The menu changes seasonally, offering 4, 6, and 8 course dinner options. The restaurant is small, with views of the cobblestone streets looking out towards the red light district. Another fantastic restaurant experience in an unlikely place (smack dab in the red light district). From the entrance, Anna looks like a nice, but somewhat bland upscale restaurant. As you venture in though, the back half of the dining room terraces down to windows overlooking the old church and surrounding cobbled streets; it's like a window looking back in time. The food was superb; lots of interesting and unique flavors served with lots of care and attention from the helpful staff. Judging by the crowd, its popular among the younger and smarter locals. And the prices were very reasonable -- 150 euros for a meal you would pay twice as much for in New York. Go if you are in town. read more

Restaurant Anna is a great restaurant in a funny place. The Amsterdam Red Light District, which is a bit shabby by character, contrasts the quality of the food and the beautiful design. The food can be qualified as international cuisine. Anna really knows how to balance traditional courses and ingredients with new ones. The chef also manages to successfully combine 'high' and 'low' foods from all around the world. This results in a playful cuisine, but Anna also offers exquisite quality. All the ingredients create a beautiful symphony of flavour. It is culinary artistry as its finest. The service is extremely kind and professional, but also relaxed and casual. An island of sophistication and tranquility in a sea of madness. No red lights in here. The menu is decidedly European, and delicious. A real treat. Inventive, mouthwatering cuisine (like langoustine with melon and avocado or scallop with corn foam and popcorn) was quite a surprise near the Red Light District. I enjoyed the terraced seating at the back of the restaurant which afforded everyone a view out the back window at the hoards of tourists on a voyeuristic scavenger hunt and depressed youth getting their fix at the coffee shop across the way. We found this restaurant based on Google reviews and were quite pleased we ate here. The food was impressive, and the nouvelle cuisine was great. While it is expensive, it was worth every penny and more. We have never been served so many sample appetizers. The presentation and taste were outstanding. The current chef and lady who runs the front of the house are married and together they do an awesome job of serving great food in a casual environment.
