Delicious taiyaki -- four big pieces for $12! I think that's really fair. We got the red bean and custard flavors, yummy! We thought the red bean would be more of a paste, but I didn't mind (although my partner would've preferred a paste). They were warm and yummy. I also ordered a matcha cloud, better known as a matcha cream top. It was really good. Big fan, would definitely be back. Unfortunately did not get to try the shaved ice but I need to come back for that. The service was kind, but it was also the end of the night so I could tell she was tired. The place was popping though, for good reason. Warm wood tones and a good amount of seating. I will definitely be back during the day for some WFH-ing. I liked the vibes. I think the parking situation is iffy but we got street parking so just go at the right time of day, I guess.
This is based strictly on their shaved ice, and it is definitely 5 star worthy. We got the strawberry shaved ice, and it was SO GOOD. I mean, how good can shaved ice be, but they make it so tasty and even inside there are chunks of strawberries and the ice just melts in your mouth. I'm scared how many calories there are in that bowl, but trust me, it is worth the calories. I'd love to go back and try other items. I'm a sucker for a good boonguhpang (taiyaki), and theirs looks bomb. The space was packed when we got there on Sat afternoon. It is very airy and bright, simple decor. Also it is loud. Since it was crowded in the store when we were there, but also the acoustics of the place is conducive to ringing and echoing. Probably since they have concrete floor too. There were people studying in the communal table though, I guess it wasn't too loud for them. Also, it does take some time to get the order. I can totally understand since they make it really perfect, but just be aware you'll have to wait good 10-15min, maybe more when it is busy.
had to drop by for a sweet treat after having dinner in ktown. the taiyaki is made to order and the batter is made with some kind of mochi flour that gives it a really nice chew. the custard filling was perfectly sweet and enough to spill out of the fish. and the strawberry mascarpone bingsu was one of the better bingsus i've had. great ratio of fruit and milk flavors
Stopped by because of a pop up and I enjoyed coming into this space. My friend and I were the first ones to enter and was welcomed by kind and friendly staff. I ordered the matcha and the taiyaki and they were both as equally as delicious. The matcha was creamy and earthy with the perfect amount of sweet. The taiyaki was fresh, made to order and crispy. I ordered both red bean and lemon custard flavor and I loved it! The space is small but there is plenty of seats if you order on time. This location is never busy so to see so many people and so busy, I was happy to see this small business booming! All in all i would definitely return to order more matcha and try more delicious items on the menu!
Paid almost $9 for the matcha cloud and did not think it met my standard for a $9 drink. The drink came in a small cup. It was hard to taste any matcha since the drink was mostly diluted with milk. The "cloud" itself was also watery and did not have the thick consistency. The place itself was really nice and has lots of seating.
The menu is decent here, but not super expansive in terms of flavorings. From the set up that's is visible, it's clear that they care a lot about the quality of the coffee pours and the matcha making process. They have plenty of seating for people who are studying. The food option here is just the taiyaki, but the cafe is calm and parking is easy.
this place has been on my list of desserts to try and i had a chance to swing by during their knemo beauty x anko pop up!! i tried the red bean taiyaki, custard taiyaki, and best of both worlds (red bean & custard together) and the custard was my favorite!! both flavors also complimented each other. the taiyaki is so soft and creamy inside. i also tried the knemo exclusive blue drink which was butterfly pea cream top & matcha, and it was soo good it was the perfect amount of matcha and the butterfly pea cream added the slightest taste of floral that was barely noticeable and complimented the matcha a lot!! they had a photobooth for the pop up and gave out bag charms and lip jellies with the purchase of taiyaki & the blue drink. such an amazing collaboration. i was able to find street parking easily across the street! the staff were so kind and funny despite how busy it was. it's also so pretty inside!! i'd definitely come here again to try the other desserts.
Stellar spot! I mean this as a compliment: the shaved ice looks like an A.I. image. It looks so perfect and unbelievable. It doesn't look real. The snow was absolutely the best. A sleeper highlight was the chocolate chip cookie. Warmed up, it was delicious and I'm glad I tried it along with the ice
If I ever wanted to open a coffee shop type of place, I would want it to be setup exactly like Anko. I just love how simply perfect they arranged this place. It sets the tone for a great experience and everything they do, reflects it. They have all kinds of coffee drinks, smoothies, sparkling drinks, tea, shaved ice, and pastries. The staff is very nice and professional. You can tell they take a lot of pride in the place, and it shows in everything they do! Parking is a challenge, but I found a place about a block away, so that's not too bad at all. Worth it!
Anko is such a cute dessert spot! Their shaved ices are perfectly perfected to melt in your mouth with great flavor. We have a whole lot of coffee shops in KTown and a whole lot of dessert spots, too. Anko stands out a bit among the rest though, despite it's near mirror image minimalist chic wood look inside & unassuming shop from the outside. They have great coffees, matcha drinks and but what makes Anko special is their dessert. Truly their bingsoo is a great size and may just be the best there is in Koreatown. Perfect level of sweetness dissipating along with the gentle flakes of the shaved iced. You'll find it's a bit sweeter here than other shops (while still staying mild) as they seem to use a bit more condensed milk compared to other patbingsu spots. I know they have taiyaki, as well, but I am usually just ordering the Black Sesame Bingsoo when I dine here. I've done the Black Sesame the most but also love the mango, matcha, add some red bean...it's just good bingsu here. Come for the bingsoo desserts ~ worth a few minutes wait and such a satisfying end to any night.
We ordered the houjicha marron shaved ice. The hojicha was very fragrant and the shaved ice wasn't too sweet. It came with a side of their condensed milk for you to add if you wanted it more sweet. Service was excellent. We received our order after 10 minutes. There is plenty of seating and would be a nice place to do work or hang out with friends! Would highly recommend!

First off, the vibes are super cute and minimalist. Really great for chatting because it's relatively quiet. Service is fast and there wasn't a line when we went. Got the taiyaki - custard and red bean. It only comes in four so be prepared to share! The custard is yummy and so was the red bean. Red bean is on the chunkier side with intact beans. The taiyaki batter is qq and delicious! Also got the brown sugar miso latte. Didn't really taste much miso or umami but was overall a nice treat. A bit sweet though! Also had the strawberry mascarpone bingsoo which was very yummy and super cute! Street parking can be a little tough but at least it's free? read more

Pretty good! Got the mango bingsoo and blueberry latte. The bingsoo was smaller than usual but the ice was a lot more creamy and flavorful. The latte was very mild. Not too sweet but I wish it had a stronger blueberry taste. Service was also pretty slow with the place being pretty empty. We also came on New Year's Eve so that could be why as well. I came here because an Instagram influencer said Anko had the best matcha in ktown, comparable to Damo. Since I really like Damo's matcha, of course I had to try Anko's matcha then. Well this is the last time I listen to the influencers, because the matcha latte was so bad, I had to throw half of it away. It was so overly sweetened, I couldn't drink it anymore because I felt like I was just drinking sweetener. I don't plan on going back, but if I did go back, I would ask for unsweetened or 25% sweet. Aside from the overly sweet mactha, the vibe was very clean and calming. For a Saturday afternoon, the cafe still had space and no line so it would be a good place to study, chill, and hang out if I lived locally. I heard Anko is more known for their sweets, so that could explain why the matcha was so sweet. If you eat sugary ice cream and other desserts, and then drink matcha which is on the more bitter side, then the matcha needs a lot of sugar to not taste so bitter. I was SO scared that Anko was not going to be worth the hype because I've gotten let down a lot lately with cafes I found on Instagram, but Anko DELIVERED! It is certainly a study cafe as advertised with lots of great seating (both good table height and chair ergonomics). The entire cafe's aesthetic is very clean and minimalist, which I am a big fan of. The cafe was really quiet -- probably since the location is further north than most Ktown cafes? I got the brown sugar miso latte which was quite yummy: not too sweet, a hint of roasted flavor and saltiness from the miso (which is otherwise not too strong or overpowering). I would love to come back to try their bingsoo or their taiyaki, which smelled absolutely amazing. Parking is a little annoying but we were able to find street parking at a rate of $1/hr. read more

We were visiting LA for a football game and decided to explore Koreatown. One of my favorite desserts is shaved ice, and Anko was recommended by other local business owners, so we had to try it. It did not disappoint. We ordered the mango and matcha shaved ice, and both were excellent: not too sweet, very flavorful, and really refreshing. The décor was simple, elegant, and very clean. 8.5/10 Dessert - Matcha Shaved Ice. This was my first time trying this version of Korean shaved ice. I've had the layered Korean shaved ice before, but this one had a completely different texture--more like fine strands that melt in your mouth, almost grass-like. It was definitely a unique experience, and I always enjoy trying new things. However, if I had to choose, I'd go with the layered version again. I also wish the matcha flavor had been a bit sweeter to enhance the overall taste. 10/10 Service- Good, no complaints. A super nice Korean lady took my order. 5/10 Cost- $14.78 in total with tax. This is very pricey for such a small dessert. This is definitely over priced. read more
This is a really cute hidden gem cafe in Koreatown! I came here because they were known for their taiyaki and bingsoo. They do valet parking. Got the custard and banana Nutella split taiyaki. It was so fresh and crispy and they brought it to us in a cute woven basket. The strawberry matcha latte was excellent as well! It was not too sweet and the strawberry chunks were a nice touch. (9/10). They could have put less ice but that's just personal preference. The ambiance was very modern and minimalistic. And the workers were nice and brought our drink to the table. Overall, a good spot to catch up, spend time with your significant other, or study as there are a few outlets. Only con is I wish they had cushions on the benches because it can get uncomfortable sitting on wood for a long time. It would make the place for cozy and comfortable. read more

Their coffee was pretty good. But their shaved ice was my favorite! Only complaint is service was very slow considering it wasn't so busy at the time I visited. Wait was 20-25 mins but if you don't mind waiting then it's worth a try. read more

bingsu here is good! portions are pretty nice as well. we got the strawberry marscapone and it looked adorable and tasted great with the toppings. my only suggestion maybe is to have more of the sauce to drizzle on top because it ran out quite fast. the taiyaki also had a great texture!! read more
Anko still has the best taiyaki in Koreatown (I always have to stop by and order 2 red bean and 2 custard)! The outside is always crispy, while the inside portion of the batter is chewy and mochi-like, and they reheat really well at home in a toaster oven or air fryer. They have also brought back the shaved ice/bingsu and upgraded their drink menu! I can't wait to try their bingsu again once the weather gets hot. The workers are very nice, and I truly love Anko and hope they stay in business for a long time. They have a big open space with lots of tables and chairs to hang out with your friends and loved ones for a sweet treat and/or drink at any time of day. read more
Cozy and quaint cafe, super sweet and clean aesthetic with chill music ambiance. Got the green grape refresher, which I am a sucker for anything grape flavored. Tasted super refreshing, with a bit of sparkling soda, if you like shine muscat or green grape definitely get this one! Shaved ice was very milky, with a sweet thick mango jam and fresh mango chunks on top. Seems like the shaved ice might be shaved frozen milk? But makes it taste even better. There is mango layered throughout, so even if you finish the mango on top there is plenty at the bottom as well. Def would recommend if you like fruity things! Not sure about the coffee though, I don't drink coffee :( read more

While planning my day in Koreatown and being a huge coffee lover, I wanted to find something new to experience. Anko offers a cloud latte and I had to try it! After walking through the ornate, busy exteriors around town, walking into this spot like cleared my mind. It was very clean, simply and comfortably decorated with lots of seating options. I really appreciated being able to charge my phone for a bit. The super fluffy layered latte and cookie with a large chocolate swirl contrasted the straight smooth surfaces of the cafe, so it was satisfying on so many levels! I ordered the latte as they would make it, with no adjustments and didn't add any sweetener to it. It has a ribbon of a sweet syrup in it that came out later. The cloud (foam) was smooth and rich without feeling heavy. Truly like a cloud! I originally planned to just eat half of the cookie but I kept nibbling and ate the whole thing. This stop fueled me for the rest of my afternoon adventures, but I would definitely come back to work or write! read more

ORDER matcha bingsoo (5/5) SOSO YUMMY!! the matcha was super flavorful, which is unlike most matcha dessert places. compared to oakobing, the matcha here is a lot stronger. the texture is super nice as well :P they pack the bowl, so you definitely get your money's worth. SERVICE the cashier was so nice and accommodating! we don't like red bean so i asked to replace it and he offered to replace it with condense milk, which added the perfect sweetness to the bingsoo. AMBIANCE there is valet and street parking available! inside had plenty of seats. read more
The ambience of this space is peaceful and clean with a generous amount of seating. The service was great and they had a good variety of desserts/snacks. We ordered the cheese and red bean taiyaki which were FRESH and crispy. The matcha latte was serious business since they use Ippodo's matcha (Ikuyo I'm assuming based on taste). Came here a while back so I'm late on the review, but I really had such a good time here for dessert and had their tayaki and black sesame bingsoo (which sadly I hear they don't sell anymore and they replaced it...) but it was so good. They had the best tayaki and I loved the bingsoo. But I think things are not what they used to be. Probably still has solid tayaki though! Street parking required! read more
*BINGSOO IS BACK ON THE MENU** Bingsoo is back and better than ever!! Super delicious and my favorites are the mango and matcha bingsoo! Matcha bingsoo is very flavorful and the matcha cream is very good. It has a surprise of red bean in the center which pairs well! The mango bingsoo has a generous amount of sweet mango. It's super milky, creamy, and good for a hot day out. Super happy that bingsoo is back on the menu :) read more

I love this place so much! The seatings are really nice and I would always go for the pumpkin shaved ice. It has a strong pumpkin flavor without any cinnamon seasoning which is best for ppl like me who don't like cinnamon. Their taiyaki also tastes great! read more

Food: Love their mango shaved ice! It's sweet, the puree to shaved ice ratio is great (every bite can have both!), and there are plenty of ripe mango pieces on top. It's filling for me but I think it's a good size to still share with a friend if you're not too hungry. It is pricy though for the size, $13. Service: I think it's good, nothing stands out as it's not particularly excellent or bad. Ambiance: The cafe has a cute, yet modern vibe with the white walls and decors with various desk set ups. I appreciate this spot for studying or as a sweet treat spot with friends because of the plentiful seating. However, the only downside is how crowded it can get even on a weekday and becomes extremely noisy, which is out of the cafe's control. The space is relatively small for a cafe, which may amplify the loudness. read more

I use to come here for shaved ice and shaved ice only. However I came yesterday and they no longer sell shaved ice. This was extremely disappointing, especially since it was a hot summer day. We were already here so we ended up getting drinks. Drinks were fine but I don't think I'd come back just for drinks or taiyaki. Also, the drinks took 30 minutes. I have never waited this long for a drink my entire life. While I understand there may be things behind the scene a customer doesn't see, I still just couldn't fathom the wait. No apology or explanation was given. This experience just wasn't great. I'm sad to say I will no longer come back. read more
drinks: i had the cream matcha (5/5) super delish & very creamy, the cream was def the star & the matcha flavor was not super strong but still v good!! my friend had the matcha strawberry, and since they use fresh strawberries, it was a little sour. the sweetness didn't come from the strawberries like most strawb matchas, but it still complimented the drink. i personally, wouldn't get the strawb matcha again, but i rly liked the creamy matcha!! parking: it seems like it's mainly street parking available, i parked in the neighborhood service: it was super packed on sunday afternoon, so it took a while for our drinks to come out (20+ min) BUT they always walk out and personally hand u your drinks, which is very nice!! there's wifi, seats, and outlets available, but on the weekend afternoon it was all full, if you come earlier or later in the day it should be open!! read more

Dropped by Anko for a midday treat and ordered the strawberry bingsoo. It was really well done. The shaved ice was super fine and soft, almost like fresh snow, and the strawberry topping tasted bright and not overly sweet. The condensed milk was balanced, not too heavy, and the portion was just right for sharing or finishing solo if you've got a bit of a sweet tooth. Service was friendly and patient. The staff gave helpful suggestions and didn't rush us even though the shop had a steady flow of customers. Everything came out quickly and was presented nicely. The space is clean and minimal, with a relaxed feel. It's a nice place to cool off or hang out with friends over dessert. Definitely one of the better bingsoos I've had in the area, and worth the stop if you're nearby. read more
Nice cozy cafe perfect for grabbing a dessert whether it be a drink or this fire bingsoo! Personally, I liked the bingsoos here way more than oakobing. I noticed they roast their own red beans which adds to the rich flavor of the milk bingsoo which i liked. For the mango and strawberry bingsoos, the ice is made up of mango milk ice and strawberry milk ice rather than just plain milk. That attention to detail was delightful in my mouth when I tried it. I am definitely coming back. The only downside is that I wish there were more seats-- most of them were taken by study campers :( read more

This place was amazing! We were in Korea town and wanted a sweet treat. We found this on yelp and decided to give it a try. We tried the strawberry mascarpone shaved ice and it was so good- sweet but not too sweet. We also tried the matcha shaved ice and and loved it! This one had a strong matcha flavor and was not as sweet. The place was clean and service was quick! read more
Amazing and spectacular, it's so good that I've been here on a weekly basis. Expect a wait time since they really take their time to make you the perfect bingsoo and taiyaki. I like their fruit flavored bingsoo like strawberry compared to their hojicha flavor. Their bingsoo also has an unexpected creamy layer the more you dig into it - a pleasant surprise! For their Taiyaki, I've seemed to liked the Nutella & Banana the most but be careful when you bite into it as the filling can spill on your clothes. Valet is $3-4 cash (I can't quite remember) but you can Venmo which will be $1 more. There is street parking if you can find it, but this is K-Town after all. read more
So glad they are offering shaved ice (bingsoo) again! Stopped by on a Friday early afternoon and the place was empty. We ordered the houjicha marron and it arrived with a small side of what tasted like brown sugar. The shaved ice looks different, like a bunch of sprinkles but the taste seems to be better, stronger. The houjicha flavor lasted to the last spoonful! It also hardly melted and we liked that we could add the brown sugar to our tasting and throughout eating the shaved ice. Overall we loved this flavor and can't wait to come back to try the rest! read more

Is there yeast in the taiyaki?
Is the shaved ice toppings gluten free? I'm okay to have soybean flour and glutinous rice flour just not regular wheat.

Do they still have a soy milk based shaved ice for vegans? Is it just soy milk and sugar or what is in it? Can they do that with injeolmi topping?
No unfortunately not. Just dairy. I wish they did!
