An average Tex Mex dining experience. The queso from the appetizer menu tasted like warmed-up Velveeta. The flavors were good. Not great. The chicken in the Burro Loco burrito was dry. The sauces and fresh chips were a nice touch. My colleagues got tacos and enchiladas which looked okay too and they said it was good. The serve's were smiling while they worked and were attentive. The restaurant was clean, large open space and inviting. There is a large parking lot out front. Note my rating system: 1 Star: I wouldn't recommend 2 Stars: Didn't hit my standards 3 Stars: Average (nothing special) 4 Stars: Above Average. Would recommend. A hidden hole in the wall gem. Headed home and met some friends here for breakfast. They said this was some of the best Mexican Food they've eaten in quite awhile. I will admit they were correct. We arrived just before opening and were the only diners until we left. We had the chorizo and egg and machacado plates. Both were excellent, well cooked & flavorful. The chorizo was moist but not greasy, the eggs were cooked a little too well done for my liking. The refried beans were creamy & flavorful. The machacado was tasty, well spiced and too salty. Each came with 2-6" thin flour tortillas, just right. Great food & inexpensive - breakfast for 4 with coffee for under $30. A winner every time. This should be zero stars.... Little backstory in the hope the owner or management see this. My grandfather has come to this restaurant the last few years almost every Friday night. He passed away this past week and we were looking for catering for the post-funeral gathering - obviously we immediately wanted to go with Anita's since that was the place he enjoyed going for Mexican food. Called the restaurant and the young lady that answered was so inhospitable and downright rude I was flabbergasted. I asked if I could speak to someone about catering and she said "didn't you already call?" To which I said no.... She said she would take down my number and the manager might call me back. I asked if the manager normally did not call people back and she said "I don't know this is all I can do for you". I asked if the manager was in and she said no he was at the other location. I called the other location- I was dead set to get our catering from them in his memory. Spoke with the manager there who let me know the manager and the owner were both currently at the Conroe location... At that point I kinda felt like this was a loosing battle and I decided to take my business to a company that wanted it. Good news, we had a fantastic experience with the other company! So word of warning steer clear because of the service is this bad I can only imagine what the kitchen is like.... Bad management for sure. read more

Ordered Migas and there was no flavor at all. just eggs and chips mixed together and then tomatoes and like 4 small potato chunks on the side with a side of super runny beans. Cost $60 for 3 of us. I had a standard lunch (mixed fajitas) at a reasonable price ($9.30 out the door, with no drink). The food was not terrible but also not exceptional. Big issue: I was pretty darn underwhelmed by the service. The place was not at all busy, yet the plates came out in a prolonged linear manner. Absolutely enjoyed the chicken enchilada & rice. Will go back for that but order for takeout. The restaurant seems like it needs a new ventilation system. You sit there and can smell the grease, the chips are possibly fried in old oil, that's what it tastes like anyway. When you leave the grease smell is in your hair and on your clothes. I have read some of the reviews from this place and am a little puzzled. We drive past this place often and have not stopped in based on that. Finally one day we were feeling adventurous and went in. It's a simple place that is clean and the waitstaff is very friendly. The food is typical Texmex combinations. It was solid and fresh prepared. It has quickly become a weekly stop for us. We've been here several times now. We have ordered Carne Guisada, Enchilada Dinner, and "All-American" Enchiladas. I enjoyed the carne guisada. It doesn't have a thick gravy, which I prefer, but the meat is tender and flavorful and their version has potatoes in it. The enchiladas we get are the basic ground beef version, and good. Most of the plates come with a cheese puff, which is queso in a tiny corn tortilla shell. It's a nice addition. Chips and salsa are bland, but that seems to be typical for this region, so not unexpected and not a deal breaker. It's a great value, as most menu items are under $10 and they usually have a daily special. Service is attentive and friendly too. read more

Excellent authentic Mexican food. The salsa is great and our enchiladas, taco and burrito were delicious.

Came in for a late dinner and even though you could tell they were getting ready to leave the food came out great. It was our first time here and we didn't realize they were about to close until it was to late to back out. Anyways, I ordered the sourcream enchiladas with fajita meat and they were amazing! I love thier salsas. The green sauce was my husband's favorite and mine was the red salsa. Also, thier queso automatically comes with taco meat which was a nice surprise since you don't see that much if anywhere else. Just wanna say good job yall! read more

Pretty mediocre. Not much flavor for their breakfast. I was seriously underwhelmed.

Went in for breakfast on Sunday morning around 9:30. No one else in restaurant. Coffee was served luke warm. Waitress did not know what Migas had on them for sure. Had to go back to kitchen twice to verify. Plate was served with 5 small chunks of a potato, beans needed a spoon to eat with, Migas were ok. I ask to have cheese on them. They charged .75 for some grated cheese. When I asked about the small portions, she said it was because breakfast was so much cheaper. $9.02?? read more

We sat down and then Never have we were ordered, nay demanded by the waitress that "heads up, if one orders breakfast then all of you have to order breakfast, if one orders lunch then all of you have to order lunch".... Asked the waitress if she's having a good day as she seemed pissed off mumbling whatever it was she was trying to convey, her monotone response "it's still early"...Damn girl it's 1030am, it ain't early! Well just a Mexican Resturant in a strip mall. But... fantastic fantastic fantastic and fresh. I suppose Conroe has a great Mexican Resturant on every corner and this one is at the top of the table. Such a great find. The flour tortillas are the best and the freshest I've eaten. One note; be careful of the Steak Mexicano heat-heat- jalapeño hot. A really unassuming special place! read more

The salsa for the chips was bland. I had to add my own seasoning. The sweet ice tea had two grains of sugar. I didn't eat any of my food and I still had to pay. When we got here the restaurant was empty so we were a little apprehensive. The iced tea was brewed well. The chips were fresh and hot. The red salsa was nice with just a hint of spice, and the green sauce was fabulous, I don't even know how to describe it. I ordered the chicken fajita tacos al carbon. They had wonderful flavor as the chicken was grilled perfect and was very juicy. My husband got a plate but I can't remember what it was called. It had 2 beef enchiladas and a tamale and he said all of it was excellent. Our server was attentive even with the restaurant being empty. Trust me I've been forgotten about in empty restaurants before. We will definitively be returning for another meal at Anita's. read more

I see there are people who have been happy with this place, so maybe we went on an off night. There was one other table when we arrived. The service was not great. Not horrible, but not attentive. The food tasted like it came out of a box from Krogers' freezer. Mine was edible, but my friend said his tamales tasted extremely freezer burned. We've eaten out a lot and that's the first time I've ever seen him send food back. If this place were really close to my home I'd give it a second try - but there's much better Mexican food in Conroe, so I won't be back. read more

Tried it with my mom. She liked the meat that comes with the queso, and the salsas. The chicken fajita meat was pretty dry. The queso tasted like it was out of a can or something. It's just plain liquid cheese, no peppers, onions, or tomatoes or anything. So if you like plain cheese, then it's probably fine, but I tend to like queso to have more flavor to it. I find the previous reviews hard to believe as to this place being the best Tex-Mex restaurant in town. We ordered 3 different dishes and the food was out in less than 20 minutes! Seems like a scoop and serve type of restaurant meaning the food is all prepared and just warmed. The fajitas lacked flavor and sizzle. The rice and charro beans were no better. The only authentic thing at this restaurant was the TV on a Spanish channel and the Mexican music playing. The waiters are overly attentive meaning you take two sips of your drink and they are ready to refill your drink. A $40 tab for this type of food is not worth it. read more

I have been waiting for this restaurant to pop up on Yelp. We have eaten here twice. Both times we had an good experience. The food is good and the staff very friendly and attentive. I found it also to be reasonably priced. This may become my new "go to" Mexican place. At the time of my visits, they had not acquired their liquor license so I can't speak for the Margaritas.
