I never like writing bad reviews but I'm so completely disappointed with my hair and about the money I spent that I can't let it slide. I went in this weekend to the Andre David salon on somewhat of a whim. My husband has had quite a bit of work in the valley so a lot of our weekends have been spent there. Andre did my hair. I wanted my roots touched up and a trim. The trim was fine, I guess. It was a trim. Nothing special but no complaints either. The color, though, is absolutely awful. My roots are a completely different color than the rest of my hair. I asked him when he took my hair out of he towel if the roots looked lighter because from where I was sitting it appeared that way. He said no, that it was just the lighting. I went home later and realized that it was NOT the lighting. My roots are at least one shade lighter, probably more like two or three. On top of that, a ton of gray hair is still showing. I've posted pictures. In some fairness, I called to let Andre know this was the case and while I'm sure if I lived in the area he would have tried to fix it, I don't.... And call me crazy, if you've been doing hair for as long as he has, this is inexcusable. Also, when I made my appointment nobody told me that they were a cash only establishment. They don't accept credit. This is absurd in my book when you're spending so much money but aside from that, I had to go withdraw money from a random ATM and get hit with fees. Go at your own risk or if you don't care at all about your hair. Now I have to go somewhere else to get it corrected and spend double the money. Ugggghhhh!! read more

Really disappointed in this place. I was referred by my cousin and I was only in modesto for the day. I walked in wasn't greeted. After 10 minuets that I was sitting down I was asked to go down to the lady to tell her what I need to get done. As soon as I showed her the picture the response was : "oh honey I don't accept new clients. Go grab a card and text those people you might get a response." That's why you have 2 clients instead of 20. So I'll just take my business somewhere else :) read more

I've been Andre's client for over 20 yrs. He is the kindest, warmest, caring hairstylist I've ever known. My Mom used to be my hairdresser growing up and I've got to say the way he cuts hair as it grows in everything still falls into place perfectly. My mom lived 3000 miles away, so not too convenient. My salon of choice when I'm in Modesto. It's such a relief to go to a stylist, knowing, with certainty, that you're going to look amazing when you leave. Girls - you know that's rare! My Mom found our stylist, David Crawford, at least 10 years ago (when he was still accepting clients!) I was, very luckily, grafted in, thanks to Mom, and consider myself blessed any time I can book an appointment. David is a master of color. I'm a red head, but the red started to fade a little in my mid-20s and it's needed some sprucing, occasionally, since. The color always looks natural (but a discernable difference from when I walked in!) which is hard to do with red hair. I joke that David doubles as my therapist; he gives the best advice about anything and everything and he always puts a smile on my face. There are other stylists there - I'd recommend the salon, generally, despite never getting my hair done by any other. The other thing I love is that the salon is nice without anyone being snooty; other stylists will chat with you sometimes, or compliment you - I always feel welcomed, which I can't say for many salons, period. read more

I have very thick long hair. Before I discovered andre , I used wait to fly out of the country to get my haircut from my fave stylist. Andre is amazing. He always knows exactly what I want. I have never left feeling let down. I would not trust my hair with anyone else . To top it off , he happens to be a polite, kind and just a wonderful human being . If you love yourself and you want a great haircut go to him. Infact when I left after a cut and style by him I was stopped in a parking lot and asked who did my hair. Two things: Appointments should be taken by appointment time. No client should have to wait 45 minutes from original appointment time. Both times I've gone the waits were long even with my appointments. It's understandable that things happen but if you have a client waiting that long, the least you could do is knock the service price down. It's not fair to take a clients time or rush their service because the hair stylist is behind. I paid A LOT of money for the hair color/style I did not want and I'm back to basically the hair I came in with but with a tint because communication and proper understanding of the service I originally wanted was not there. I feel like I wasted a lot of time and money. The stylist was personable but unfortunately my experience wasn't pleasant. read more

Today's salon experience was amazing ! CHIPO is BEYOND amazing !! She had a medical emergency and STILL came in! She is by far the nicest cosmo I've ever met ! She made me feel so comfortable! With in 30 minutes we were talking like long lost Bestfriend's ! I didn't feel uncomfortable or judged unlike most places I've gone ... and to get to the most important part MY HAIR !! She took her time & actually got it a blonde that EVERYONE claims THEY CANT get ! I paid 10$ MORE to another girl and you couldn't even tell she lightened it , Chipo got it at LEAST 6 shades lighter then any cosmo has ever done ! I HAVE THICK HARD TO MANAGE HAIR! The Andre David I go to is on 13th Street in Modesto, and I love it there. I've been going to Edmond for over 10 years now and he always makes my hair look amazing. I get compliments on my cut or color all the time. I've even had people stop me to ask where I go. Everyone in the salon is nice and make you feel welcome. It's clean and I never have to wait. I always make my next appt before I leave and I get in right away. I've referred plenty of people to this salon and to Edmond as well. I can't say enough great things about this place. read more

We all know the fear of trying a new salon. After losing my other hair stylist to a better job of bartending and retail- me and my brassy pixie cut were left with 2 inches of black roots on our version of blonde. It had been 9 weeks and fearfully I checked around for a new place for my hair to call home. Let me tell you- I struck hair heaven. As I sat a waited for my turn in the twirly chair, another stylist came and lowered the shades on the window to reduce the glare on my panicked, anxiety stricken face. I began to relax. The small gesture instantly made me more comfortable. Then it was my turn. Mary made me a believer. Her work of wonder now highlights my face- a real platinum color for this original brunette. She accomplished what many before her had fallen short of on delivery. And my pixie? Trimmed to perfection. Sincere compliments were flowing from all stylists in the salon, "the color is great", "I love the cut", "this fits your face so well!". This is where my hair belongs. I am beyond in love with my new cut!! I have (well...i had...) waist length thick hair and decided that instead of a trim I would hack it all off and donate it. Scheduled an appointment with Chrissy earlier this week and asked if she had a spot ASAP so that i wouldn't have time to chicken out, she was able to get me in today. The salon is very clean; she was at the desk when i came in and immediately greeted me by name (the hair probably gave me away, lol.) Needless to say i was REALLY nervous, but she pretty much held my hand through everything, made sure i was comfortable with what we were about to do, and apologized for not having booze on site to calm my nerves (forgiven, lol). I basically told her that i was just going to trust her to do whatever she pleased and i walked out with an adorable, easy to style, new look. I am lucky enough to have worked down the street from this salon in downtown Modesto. Wilma did an amazing job. I needed a new haircut to impress my firm, which she obliged to do. She quickly cut and styled my hair in a way I could repeat. She also was extremely reasonably priced compared to the other salons downtown. I have tried other, paid more and was extremely dissatisfied with the experience and the haircut. Only at Andre David Salon was I treated warmly, like I was a client of theirs for years the minute I walked in the door. He brought my sun-damaged ombré back to a healthy fresh color and my cut is modern but youthful. The price is perfect for the amazing results you get. DO NOT GO WITH *** CHIPO MULENGA *** I went in for an ombré with my hair length to my bottom. I noticed my ends pretty dry when she was done and also explained to her I felt my ombré looked a little funny my top base color being my natural black hair color. She said ok come in and I'll make it a lighter brown. I set my appointment 5 days later (that was the soonest available). On the second day I washed my hair and noticed half of my hair felt like rubber band and I couldn't even brush through it or even style it. I sent her a text and she said ok we will cut it and do a treatment. I get to my appointment and she ends up having to cut my hair to my shoulders! At that point I said can you just dye my hair all brown instead of just the top part because I felt the ombré would look so funny at shoulder length. She said ok if we do that it has to be a darker brown. Ended up with almost/basically black hair. And golden tips. Told her can we do golden tips ash color at least. She said ok but I could see she was frustrated because had another client and just rushed my top visible bottom high lights and didn't even do the inside ones or back ones. I left very unhappy with my hair. The next day my account got hit with -$102 for her visit. I did not agree to that payment and texted her asking to be refunded and that it was not fair for me to pay out of pocket for something she made a mistake on. She said that she will not refund me for extra product used on my hair, yet the only reason extra product was used was because she damaged my hair severely and changed my whole style I had ask for in the beginning. She still did not refund me so I filed it with my bank as a fraud report and will also be contacting the salon owner. I will also be reporting her. What she did was not fair or right! ALSO she posted fraudulent pictures on her Instagram (that I have copies of) of "before and after" the AFTER picture was not my hair! What a scam artist!!! read more

Wilma Smith does an excellent job! My hair is curly and frizzy and she used the Privana hair smoother and my hair was sleek and smooth for almost 5 months! No more frizz and I didn't have to straighten it as often. She is also an excellent hair color specialist. Her expertise and professionalism is very comforting in the salon. I had bad outgrowth from waiting too long to get a weave throughout my hair, my roots were black and I've been trying to get a sandy blonde look forever and could not find someone to get it right. Just yesterday I came on yelp and found this salon. I made a same day appointment with a lady named Mary. I showed her a picture of how I wanted it done and didn't have to say anymore. I was sincerely amazed by her talent. I finally found my stylist. I also have long hair and was able to leave with my length which was a concern from bad previous experiences.
