Well I after only three weeks of living in the City, I just landed my first job and it happens to be the dream job - fun, funky, young company and good salary - and I owe it all to Carolyn Betts and Andiamo.
I arrived in SF on a Thursday and decided to call Andiamo after I saw a friend get a ton of calls about jobs when she signed on with them last summer. On sort of a whim, I called Friday and asked to speak directly to a recruiter, and had a meeting lined up for first thing Monday morning. I was instantly impressed with the fun vibe in the office - it made moving to a city and getting my first job a less stressful experience. Within an hour, Carolyn had laid out 5 positions crossing a lot of different sectors that she thought I'd be a good match in. By the end of the day, I had three interviews booked!
After a successful first round of interviews thanks to her and her friendly associates' coaching ("here's how you can present this to this employer", "this employer will be attracted to your strengths with xyz") I landed second and even third interviews and within two weeks had narrowed down my options to two amazing jobs with what I can only say are extremely competitive salaries - much more than I thought I'd be making.
Sure, I had work of my own to do. When using a recruiter, just like any part of your job search, it's confidence, professionalism, and the ability to stand up for and assert yourself that will land YOU the job you want and deserve....so I do think that a candidate's success or failure is a measure of their own abilities and a bit of luck. However, there is no way I could have done it without Carolyn's quick scheduling, contacts, ability to talk me up to employers, constant emailing and phone calls with both me and employers, and an overall ability to follow up. We talked almost every day, often multiple times, sometimes when I just needed someone to vent to during what can be a stressful time. There is absolutely no way I could have landed such a great job so quickly without her and Andiamo.
To anyone thinking about Andiamo - DO IT. And be open minded - realize that finding a great job may mean you wind up in a different position or industry than you had your heart set on, and sometimes mean a pay cut (you should never choose a job on salary alone!). Go on every interview you can - the experience can only help you, and you may be surprised by what you find! Make your goals clear, and clearly communicate what you are and aren't interested - and trust that you have someone who genuinely cares about your success on your side!!!
I for one, am so excited to start my amazing new job! Thanks Andiamo!! read more
