My dad took me to this place when I was a kid. It's a landmark. They have the best birch beer on tap on the planet. I can't even find it anywhere else. I used to drink it when I was 5 years old. The Anchor Inn is an icon of the shore and an absolute gem. Food is always good and the prices are reasonable. Don't forget that this a small family business and has been in Ocean Gate before the beginning of time. If you want to find authentic local then come to the Anchor. The best pizza! This place is fun, used to live in O.G. and would go all the time for pizza, anti pasta and beer! Old school bar, feels like your back in 1960, but that's the charm of this place. A great time if you want a low key fun, good time with great food! read more

Have a home in Ocean Gate for past 25 years, Anchor Inn is always a summer staple. Pizza is good and a great place to take the family.

I met Jimbo here on Sunday to watch the Cowboy game and the Giants v. Eagles. It's a nice place "down the shore' just south of Toms River in the small shore town of Ocean Gate. Jimbo is a regular here and has been raving about the food, their specialty is Italian. I arrived just before the 1pm kickoff and Jimbo had secured us some seats right in front of the TV that would show the Boys v Seattle. Our barkeep was friendly and attentive. They had $2 Coors Light on tap and I had a "few" of those and a shot of 1800 Tequila ($5) when the Pokes scored their first TD. I had a Sausage Parm sandwich that was very tasty. Jim raves about their pizza and several people at the bar were enjoying bar pies during the games. They have the NFL Package and all the games are on. The beer was frosty cold, the food terrific; the Cowboys wiped out the Seahawks, and all was right with the world. I think I've found my new spot for football Sundays. read more

The product that hits your plate is outstanding and reasonably priced. Top notch service without being fussy. Good ambiance though quite dated. Lots of locals which is a great sign. Anchor Inn is my go to place whenever you want a great meal. In the 17 years I've lived in this area I can tell you I have never had a bad meal at the Anchor Inn the food is superb. Their salad bar is just big enough and has everything you'd like on it. All the locals love this place read more

Frank Golda, chef, presented his artichokes francaise at the Central Regional PTA's Cooking Class March 28th. What a dish! He showed how to make a veloute, the proper way to handle a sauce and was a great speaker. This relaxed, comfortable restaurant has a 60 seat bar, 6 flat screen tvs, and a menu that is priced just right! Best meal for miles around and a great value for the buck. read more

It was ok until we got the bill, I hate the surprise of how much a 2nd soda costs. The first one is full of ice, you'd had a busy day at the shore, your realy need a drink and they refefill your soda without telling you that there is a charge!!! So your $50, goes to $60. The staff is great, the seafood is super fresh, best bar pies in NJ (ask for a garlic pie), they have best appetizer ever created (artichoke hearts franchaisse), and the DelMonico is legendary... So rude. So sad. Used to frequent this place for the last 25 years. Went in with a friend from out of the country and his service dog. The 'greeter' could not have been nastier. Said she had a service dog and she understood, blah, blah, blah, but of course she couldn't allow us to go any further. The place was empty and she actually blocked us entering further. He even offered to show her his documents for the dog! Yeah, she 'let' us stay, stuck us RIGHT next to the door (with an empty place) because 'with children around and the hair' we couldn't sit anywhere else. I'm guessing she probably broke some kind of law. So after 25 years, I will never go back. So sad. read more

I wanted to try out this restaurant because it was recommended by some friends. I think they must be drunk or something when they went to this dump. First I started with the salad bar and the salad was wilted and brown. The wings were not cooked evenly, the pizza had too much sauce and was not tasty. The steak tasted like a dead cow. My husband was sick for 3 days probably from the salad bar. My son ordered the cheeseburger and was throwing up that night and was sick with a stomach ache for 2 days.
