Despite a slight decline during our last visit (compared to the first time) we decided to give Enzo's another chance. This visit was about the same. The food here is delicious. That's not the trouble. They have an excellent seafood salad (one of the best around), delicious white clam sauce, and pretty much everything else we ordered was good. Everyone liked their food. The thing that's off here is the service. We arrived and stood at the hostess table...for a while. Servers saw us and went about their business. After about 5 minutes, someone finally sat us. I didn't know if it was a hostess or one of the servers. We had a reservation, but am not sure if was even needed on this Sunday night. Food comes out a bit slow, but not that bad. They even have a warning on the menu that everything is prepared fresh and may take time. And, the food didn't disappoint. I really just think this place needs a maitre'd, or host of some sort and they also always seem a bit short staffed. Servers scramble. Called day beofre Good Friday to place our order, knowing is a very busy day. Agreed upon pick up time as they do not deliver. Foccaccia bread was always the best. Never had the pizza but ordered several. At agreed upon pickup, order not prepared. Foccaccia bread had uncooked sauce and no seasoning. Had a houseful of people. Couldnt do anythinga out it. Embarrassingly we've driven past countless times and never popped in. We had a get together and someone brought a focaccia with fresh mozzarella from Enzo's. It was delish. My wife and I decided to go grab another one of these a few weeks later. We called for takeout. Kid who answered the phone had no personality bordering on rude. The food was ready when he said and we also ordered cold antipasto salad. Everything was really good and enjoyable. I'm a little concerned about the numerous 1 star comments on this place. The serve my favorite Pizza focaccia. Which is a fresh tomato based pizza with garlic, olive oil, no cheese etc. I was very happy they offered this and the staff was kind to me and my wife. read more

It breaks my heart to say this, but what once was my favorite Italian restaurant down the shore, has gone downhill. The owner and his daughter are lovely as are the wait staff, however, the food has gotten worse and worse. It started in early summer and we came back multiple times and it has not gotten better. Went for Dinner and had the hot antipasto it was excellent the eggplant , clams and shrimp were so delicious and having the pillow dinner rolls with olive oil dip was top notch . I ordered the Veal parm and was hoping it was better than what I've had around town and without a doubt it was the best I've had in years . My wife had a shrimp and scallops marinara which was also delicious. The pasta was fresh and the sauce was delicious. My service was excellent . I couldn't ask for anything better. Server was mediocre. Food quality was extremely disappointing!! We were so excited to try here and left hungry (sent full plate back) and irritated. I've said it before. If you're looking for great Italian food in a nice atmosphere, casual enough to have fun and laugh, but with excellent Italian food and service, this is your place! I was delighted with every course here, I love the atmosphere and all of the service was top-notch! It's not fine dining, but the food is! Just great for couples but also groups and families! Let me just start by saying that the fried calamari with marinara sauce was perfection! Very rarely is this dish just right. The calamari was cooked perfectly, super tender bursting with flavor. The marinara sauce was delicious and hot. Great way to start any meal! I mentioned earlier about their focaccia bread. There's something you need to understand, this is the best anywhere! If you ask them they will even make it for you and put it in a box cold so that you can heat it up at home or at a party. I have to tell you that this will be the favorite appetizer or dish at any party! Everyone will ask you where you got it! To me it's better than pizza. It's just bread with a delicious tomato sauce and no cheese. If you live within a half hour you should try this focaccia bread! You could argue that there focaccia bread is enough to get this place five stars! For dinner I had pasta with vodka sauce and a delicious salmon with pesto. Everything was delightful and excellent. I don't remember if the pasta was homemade, but I remember really loving it. Unfortunately this place is 45 minutes from my home, so I won't be able to go that often. What a disappointment. Cafe italia was our go to restaurant for years when Donato was the manager, hosted many large parties there, never had a bad meal. Not sure what happened to Enzo's. The food used to be really good and the service was good as well. Now it has fallen off dramatically in both areas. I will say that one customer received the attention of the entire wait staff but that left the rest of us with apologies for the wait. The food was just so so. Ordered some takeout and was really excited to try this place. Had a good rating on door dash. Shoudl have checked here first. They forgot half our order and when I called to offer to come pick it up we were met with a rude. "There's nothing we can do" and they hung up. I drive by this place all the time. Recently a neighbor took us there. Overall, the food and service were very good. We have been back several times since our first visit. The menu had a lot of items that looked good, so I will have to visit often so I can try them all. On of the appetizers we had was the stuffed zucchini flowers. They were delicious. Since we are having our kitchen remodeled we have been ordering a lot of takeout. We decided to try places we either have never had or haven't had in a long time. Caffe Italia came to mind, so I got on the phone to place an order for delivery. Big mistake. The service over the phone and delivery guy were good, nothing wrong there. It was my meal that was inedible. The order: shrimp scampi, zuppa di pesce, fettuccine alfredo with grilled chicken, mozzarella sticks, and an antipasto. Shockingly, it was the fettuccine alfredo that was just awful. Disgusting. The alfredo sauce was thin, bland, and tasted like water. Absolutely no flavor at all (they probably forgot to add cheese into the sauce). The fettuccine was extremely overcooked. It was my fault for not asking for my pasta to be cooked al dente, but this was extremely over done. Just mushy. And we have the chicken. Chewy, dry, cold, and there were very few pieces of it in my dish. I kept complaining to my parents how awful it was, pushed my meal aside, and had my mom try it. She agreed on how awful it was, and said to call the restaurant. I told her not to bother, ate a few mozzarella sticks, but she persisted. I had her get on the phone as she wished, and the guy had a friendly, apologetic personality. It took some time and effort, but I did end up receiving money off the bill.. which was $86 before tip!!! For three meals, an antipasto, and an app for delivery. That's more than $25 a person. The antipasto was a serving size of one person, and was $14. WAY overpriced! My advice, check out some other great local Italian restaurants/pizzerias for much better, authentic Italian food. Linda's on Fischer, Lisa's on rt. 37, or Johnny G's are the way to go. Friendliness and an apologetic personality doesn't cut it for this guy when all he wants is a quality meal for dinner. Ended up sitting home with nothing else to eat. Not cool! read more

The food was delicious!! Shrimp scampi was generous with very large shrimp. It was good but they used lemons and capers. It needed less lemon more garlic. All in all not horrible but I wouldn't go back. The service was great but the food was ok. Antipasto was not good. Cold pre made. Focaccia was pretty good, nice and simple with some garlic in the sauce. Veal cutlet was decent but swimming in in flavorless marinara. The wife's vodka sauce did not look good but I'm not a vodka sauce guy. I like simple old school Italian. This places food seemed more American than Italian. I had the focaccia at a graduation party from this establishment. It was unbelievable. It was cooked just right and there was plenty of seasoning in the dough and tomato sauce that was present. Had a fantastic dinner here Sunday evening and the service was great. Love that it is BYOB. The server was very knowledgeable about all the food and made very good recommendations. Ordered two of the specials , the crab salad over fresh mozzarella was delicious and the pork special was incredible, super tender fell right off the bone. The bread that was brought to the table was warm and the olive oil and spices had a lot of flavor. We also ordered the mozzarella sticks which were just as good as you would expect and the price point was amazing for those only $5.50 (because you know some places charge upwards of $8 to $10 and there's simply just mozzarella sticks) but the price was on point and the marinara sauce that came with it was perfect. The other entrée that we ordered was shrimp and scallop Provençal, which had so much seafood, I choose to have over penne, I like that they gave me options for pasta to choose. I have family who live in Toms River, so I find myself passing this place to often around the corner from their neighborhood. However, I stopped in a few years back on a trip home from Seaside (not family-visit related). I remember the food being good and everyone being satisfied. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Despite that, I still have not found myself back in here for another meal. Maybe it's the location - right after the bridge heading home from Seaside, who wants to have dinner at a nice sit down restaurant with sea salt in their hair? I don't necessarily recommend this place to people, but I would say give it a shot. Maybe I should practice what I preach and stop in myself. read more

I have had pizza at every pizza joint in Toms River. Most places are decent or better. But I always try to find even better. I completely forgot that Caffe Italia has a pizza place in the back of the restaurant and also does delivery. I eaten at Enzos other places as well and know that you can trust the quality of his food. With that said in the last seven days I've gotten delivery from Caffe Italia for pizza, chicken Parmesan sub, chicken francaise dinner and gnocchi with vodka sauce. There's Sicilian pie rocks. The food was delicious and my family loved it. And the delivery was on time and professional. I actually had my wedding rehearsal dinner there in 1997. I can't believe I forgot about this little gem. read more

Definitely not as good as it was a year or two ago. I ordered the gnocchi dish with grilled chicken--they put 3 measly chicken strips on top, and the gnocchi was very mushy. My friend ordered fettuccine Alfredo and asked if they can add grilled chicken to it -- he had an over abundance. I guess they don't know how to sort things out in the kitchen. We even joked and he said I think I got your chicken! My husband ordered the garlic with cheese as an appetizer. When they brought out the toasted bread, my husband asked the waiter where the cheese was, and he seemed confused. My husband suggested that he just bring it into the kitchen and ask them to put the mozzarella cheese on it, but he said no, but I can take it off your bill--that's odd. They appeared to be very shortstaffed, and after quite awhile, we were informed the kitchen was backed up. Sad to say because we always loved it here, but will not rush back anytime soon. read more

Ordered some food to go tonight. Ordered a foccia pizza and it is ice cold. Ordered two salads: one Caesar on Dijon Caesar salad is a huge pile of lettuce with a sprinkle of Parmesan and 6 croutons. Dijon salad has blue cheese instead of Gorgonzola and is also mainly lettuce. The dressing was dumped over the salad - never seen a salad "to go" come already dressed. The dressing was not Dijon but instead just chunky mustard. And like I said completely ruined the salad with way too much. The owner or whoever the short guy is who runs the place is extremely rude. My wife is allergic to dairy and when we received our order there was cheese on the pasta dish. When I specifically mentioned, when I placed the order my wife is very allergic. Mistakes happen, but when I called to speak with the manager, he did not apologize and he hung up the phone on me. I couldn't believe it. Needless to say, I have never been back. There's much better pizza restaurants near by and their owners are appreciative for your orders and are pleasant. In the end it's their loss because I was a weekly customer. read more
