We have been to the anchor in many times and last night decided to sit at the bar for drinks and a pizza. The bartender was very attentive when we arrived serving our drinks and giving us menus. She never came back to take our food order. She spent most of her time at the other end of the bar. When we tried to order she helped the 2 men next to us first. They were on our left and she had been working the bar from the right. She never came back and we had been there about 45 minutes. When we flagged down the guy and tried to order he said " you aren't the only ones here you know" in a snotty tone. That was it! We put $10 on the bar and left. We will not be back! I've been coming to Ocean Gate since I was a kid and it's a very special town. A hidden gem especially for people that like to sail. Now in the September of my years the Anchor Inn is still a wonderful place. Stopped in today and meatball sub was awesome and pizza was a little too cheesy but good. Food was so-so but prices were not. Suggest eating in the dining area vs. bar. Your check will be easier to decipher. Sandwiches are standalone unless otherwise specified. The specials are pretty much standard do not change. Pizza is ok, regular fare. One tip: be wary about suggested add ons. You'll get hit ex: (+$6 for peppers onions and mushrooms thrown lightly on an $11 cheesesteak). Lunch special pork chops came with no more than maybe? 10 fries. read more

Very disappointed in our dinner experience, absolutely no presentation, shrimp scampi thrown on a plate with no accompanying vegetables or even greens to present the food. Farm raised shrimp. Grilled seafood platter was good although I asked for sea bass to be substituted for flounder and they forgot and had to wait for very small piece of it to be brought out with asparagus on sidebut it was Delicious! Husband had pork chops, generous portion and also very good. Delicious mashed potatoes and vegetables cooked perfectly! This place is like stepping back into time, when neighbors knew your name, watched out for each other and service was done with a smile! What a cool stop, food was OUTSTANDING! We were a party of 8 and had a sausage pie as an app. WOW, amazing!!!!!!!! Anchor Inn is a well-loved local favorite. There is a bar area and plenty of tables for those dining in. The overall vibe is very casual so come as you are! Have not come here in years and was disappointed. The restaurant looks exactly the same inside with the wood paneling. The waitress took awhile to come over to our table but she was very busy. The Anchor Inn is always a solid staple in Ocean Gate. It's a simple, no frills restaurant, but the food is always spot on. Some items are definitely stand out favorites (pizza, antipasto, steamed clams, oysters) and the beer is always cold. During COVID, they are doing take out and outside dining. Everything was very clean and the severs took all necessary precautions - masks and gloves included. The only thing they aren't doing is draft beers - but plenty of bottles and cans. This trip I went with the crab cakes, which seemed like a different recipe than I've had previously. Good, but not as crab filled as they usually are. My father had the stuffed flounder, and there were easily 2 full separate portions on his plate. All in all, a gem in OG that has a little bit of something for everyone! read more

Very old-school dining experience if you're looking for that. The restaurant itself could use an upgrade especially with the chairs at the tables. We were sat at a table that was right by one of the exit doors and we had to move the table ourselves so we wouldn't get hit when people came. Seafood broil was good everything is priced fairly decent for prices nowadays. They good specials, claims casino were good. If you are looking for an incredible NJ style pizza, then look no further. The pizza and mussels are TO DIE FOR!!! Laid back, super casual, and a great value. The employees are all super kind as well. The day we came in for lunch there was 1 server working the whole side of the restaurant we were on and the young lady did so flawlessly. The mussels were cooked to perfection and the sauce they were served in was so incredible I could drink it. The pizza far surpassed my expectations and I dream of it to this day. We are Doing a lot of driving from New York back down to Jersey, usually returning home by dinner time. We've stopped quite a few times at the Anchor Inn. We can get a quick beer or drink, A burger, Steak, pizza, fish, or clams you name it, they seem to have it and it's always excellent. From the bartenders to the bus boys/girls, service is always on point. A waitress in particular to call out is Julie, she's always attentive, smiling and checking in on us to make sure we are OK. I am from NJ and renting a house at the beach. A great local neighborhood restaurant. The service was fantastic and the food was really good. The bread was great. I like a good salad with my meal and the salad was just OK. We had the jalapeño popper and shrimp appy and both were really awesome. Portion sizes are really big so make sure you are really hungry! We were pretty full from our appetizers and couldn't finish our meals. We were all happy with our main course. I had the eggplant rollatini and it was really good. If you are looking for a causal neighborhood place with good food, the Anchor Inn is a winner. read more

My wife and I went to Anchor Inn after movie last night (8/24/23) and we are so disappointed we will never ever ever go back. Sat at bar. Got drinks Bartender took our order (FYI It's OK to smile). My wife ordered first and was craving for a 10 inch bar pie. I ordered cup of Manhattan Clam Chowder, and the Delmonico Steak. Dinner came with salad and baked potato. Soup arrived in a reasonable time limit 7 minutes give or take. It was OK. Finished soup. Five minutes later salad arrived. Was crisp and cold (Again, bartender it is perfectly OK to smile!). Finished salad. About ten minutes go bye and my steak arrives put in front of me and bartender walks away. We look at each other.. My wife says "where's my pizza"? Trying to get eye contact with bartender. My wife is now three pieces into bread and had a few bites of my steak and I am more than half way finished with my dinner when I finally find eye contact with bartender and wave her over. I was not rude nor loud as that is just not my style EVER! Asked where's her pizza? The bartender responds (and I will quote exactly).."oh, that's on a different ticket and that line is very busy" and then walks away. Her pizza order is still not served and I am basically finished with my dinner. 45 minutes after we ordered (and that is conservative as it was probably closer to 55 minutes) the pizza finally arrives. My wife is upset, stomach not happy, and wants to go home and she refused the pizza to the server and I said "are you kidding me?". Server brought pizza to our bartender who walked over to us and asked if we wanted the pizza to go I said we've been here an hour and said no. She then said, like she was doing us a favor, I'll take it off your bill then and I said in a nice not angry manner may I speak with your manager please? Didn't say, yes, no, just walked away. About ten minutes later manager arrives and asked what was the problem. I was nice, told her we are upset not angry and told the manager the entire of what happened. Here comes the crazy part. She then said, "yes, the pizza's are on a different ticket in kitchen and takes separate time for them to come out". I then said "then we should have been told". Manager then said this, and I will quote as now it gets cooky... she said "well, when you place your order you need to let server know you want your food to come out together, so the next time you place your order would you do that for me please?. Manager actually asked us to state we want to tell server we want to eat together. TRUE story! Then she picked up the bill and I thought she was going to do the right thing and comp our dinner (one dinner). Manager picked up our check, looked at it and smiled and said "bartender did remove the pizza and you weren't charged. Then walked away. Probably the worst customer service I have ever encountered in all of our dining out. We got to our car and both of us stated we felt like we were just abused and we both agreed never will Anchor Inn ever get our business ever again. read more

We spent five days in ocean gate and ate at Anchor Inn twice. Food is fantastic and so well-priced. The first night we did dinner- steak, seafood and a handful of apps. Going to Anchor in is like walking into Cheers. If you sit at the bar often enough, the bartender knows you name and your pour. For us, it's Barb, our waitress who has been there with what must seem,to her at least, like it's been forever. But she greets us every time with a smile and good Chit Chat. The food there really cannot be beat it has such a great selection of comfort food, Pizza, the best chowder, and specials never disappoint.
