Something has changed here. We have stopped here for years but no more. Service is slow and unresponsive. I could deal with that if the food had been up to speed. The burger was over cooked and dry. The food isn't as great as The Food Network made it out to be. The service is HORRIBLE. the women who work there are rude and act like their job is the worst place ever to be. They should be lucky they have one. You have to pay attention to how many people don't have have food. Count the tables without and add about 10 minutes to each. That's how long it will take to get your food. Make sure you bring cash because they will make you use their ATM machine to pull out cash to pay while you are also paying them to use use it. Humm, heard so much about this place we had to check it out. A Saturday at noon may not have been the best time however. It was very busy to say the least and we had to wait for a table plus had to wait a long time for our food. The burger was very good, worth the wait. But the fries were not good. I stopped here because I saw this place on triple d. Big letdown. Got here Saturday around 12:30pm. The place was already packed. There was my group and another 2 couples waiting and looking for seats. The employees ignored all of us as they were running around busy but nobody ever got a greeting or a "I will be right with you ". We walked out after 10 mins and placed an order over the phone in our car. The burger selections are nice and some unique options. After 45 mins our food was ready for pick up. I hated the burgers, they were well done and dry. A good burger place to me serves a burger medium at most, that's where all the flavor is you never cook it all out! It was a let down , another place for the locals I guess who have nothing better to compare the food too other than franchises I guess. The only nice thing is the food was very cheap which could be why this place is so popular. Get drunk, and eat a super cheap subpar burger to fill your belly and you go home happy is what I think made this place what it is. My girlfriend gives an extra star because she was ok with the well done burger so there's that. The burgers here are great and really creative. The basic bacon cheeseburger was spot in n and delicious, but if you want adventure the cashew burger is unique and just as delicious. Great dive bar, with unbelievable cheeseburgers. Hard to describe the atmosphere besides saying it is the most divey of the divey, but makes you feel at home. I got the Olive Burger with green olives, cream cheese, and pickles on it. I never had something like it before, and it was delicious. Also, great low beer prices. Insane. This is the go-to place for cheap food, cheap beer, and an interesting experience in Superior/Duluth. Their burgers are freshly pattied, the fries are cut minutes before going into the fryer, and the beer comes cold. The jalapeno burger is my choice, and if you ask they can add hot sauce on it if you like it extra spicy. The service can be hit or miss depending on how busy it is, but you don't love the Anchor for the service. If you are looking for an exceptional burger with fries and a pitcher of beer for under $10 (yes $10!!), the Anchor is the place to be. Come with an open mind and enjoy! read more

Walked in wasn't sure whether or not to seat myself or to wait as none of the waiters decided to greet us but instead just glance for a second. We found a table and waited to be served by our waiter. Our waiter approached us and was extremely rude and showed no respect for us. We ended up leaving and going to V.I.P down the street because of this. The place is very rundown and their menu is far from spectacular and the menu itself explains what kind of service you will be expecting. "Bad." I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, I was told by 3 different people to try it and to my surprise I was extremely disappointed by the quality of the restaurant and customer service that was so poorly handled. Ok, we went here after hearing from many different people what great burgers they have. If you find it necessary to eat off the floor, I do not recommend anchor bar. However, if you are looking for a good, cheap burger and fries, this is your place. It's a limited menu so don't expect lots of choices. My hubby chose the cream cheese burger with jalapeños and fried onions and I chose the bacon cheese burger with fried onions and we split. No silver wear to cut in half? No problem!! The Anchor Bar is definitely a must try. They have a ton of burger and food options to go with a full bar. Both the burgers and the beer are cheap, $5 burgers and $5 pitchers. The Anchor however is a tiny place that is always busy, be prepared for a wait. I love the feel of the bar, it is very historic has a lot of old ship and sailing artifacts to look at. The only reason I'm not a regular at this bar is because of the service. Don't expect to receive any customer service after you order, but I guess what do you expect from a bar converted into a restaurant. read more

I have a son that is graduating from UW-Superior and a daughter attending UMD. The first weekend that I dropped my son off a college, we went to the Anchor. Now every time that I visit them, we have to get a burger at the Anchor. Best burgers, juicy and flavorful with fresh-cut fries. After numerous visits, I have never been disappointed. Be prepared for a wait, since it is small and it does get crowded. And there are times that they have one waitress and the bartender helps out. I have read other reviews where food was delivered to the wrong table or soggy fries. I have never experienced any of those issues, but I can understand when it is extremely busy. When visiting, you need to be patient and understanding, this is not your 5-star French restaurant, but it is a 5-star burger joint. The anchor burger with fries are the bomb.
