Had much high hopes with some of the reviews, but hopes dies again. Yes, they seem to have a variety of types of doughnuts from normal to down right weird - when I think it is weird it has to be because I am proud of my weirdness and enjoy seeing it in stuff. Maybe that variety is the cause of some of the problems. 1st is the prices. $1.79 is highway robbery. Maybe for the quality, half that price would be fair but premium price for anything less than custom made to order should be a crime. I have been to a made for you custom and those were worth the price. Maybe they have to make up for wasted product that goes stale. Dom's donuts are a $1 a piece for the same size and much better taste and icing. 2nd is service, she messed up my order and I ordered ONLY 2 types. I pointed and told her 2 triple fudge chocolate donuts with chocolate icing and chocolate sprinkles. Got cake with mini color balls with spimpy chocolate icing. They were not even close to each other on the shelf. 3rd was quality, but I have some of the best in the Midwest over the years. Washinew Dairy, Dom's doughnuts, to name a few. Maybe those who reviewed Amy's taste bids have adventured out of this area. The gas station doughnuts at Duke's off of I-70 are even superior. I have been a doughnuts connoisseur for 50 years now. We adventured out to Amy's Donuts since they have good reviews and an unbeatable selection of donuts. Upon arrival, we were instantly in awe of how many donuts they have in the case. Most of them were yeast donuts with different toppings but they still had the classics like cream sticks, glazed twists and apple fritters. We found it hard to pick just 6 for our half dozen since they all looked so good. The donuts were definitely tasty and I recommend Amy's if you like different topping and combinations. The donuts stayed fresh for a few days which was impressive. In terms of purchasing, they have a drive thru (perhaps an old Taco Bell? building) which is nice and convenient during COVID. Sweetie stopped by on National Donut Day, and somehow saved some for me. (Actually, she saved them by eating half of each; see my photo.) I tried them the next day so they were not quite fresh, but still good. Her favorite was blueberry cake, which I thought was fine but not amazing. A very standard blueberry donut. I liked the PB+J, which tasted surprisingly like eating a PB+J sandwich. I also enjoyed the turtle, which was over-the-top with chocolate, caramel, and pecans. And then there was the Elvis, with bacon, chocolate, and dried bananas. That was freaking amazing. Not-so-favorite but still fine were the caramel apple, which had lots of nuts which fell off and went everywhere; and some kind of "camo apple" (?) which had swirled frosting and a slight apple taste. Everyone who's visited Amy's know it is a gem of old fashion donuts, a huge variety made daily. Their donuts are so good they have a 24 hr drive through! The place is a barebones shop, donuts and a few cold drinks are all they do. No frills , just huge cases of deliciousness! The staff is super helpful in helping you make your selection of all the donuts. The only drawback I see is the Columbus, OH store is the only one I found east of the Mississippi. What a wonderful start to a Wednesday! I came here on a mission to find Columbus' best donuts and this establishment set the bar high! The fluff levels were ON PAR and the variety of specialty donuts was impressive! It seemed like they specialized in having ~crazy~ ~unique~ donuts rather than focusing and specializing on the more traditional donuts. The strawberry shortcake was by far my favorite! However, the Oreos and pretzels on the donut seemed a bit stale. A friend delivered these to work a few nights ago at 2 o clock in the morning... and oh my goodness!! I think I went into a diabetic coma just looking at them. A little bit off the beaten path in Columbus, Amy's Donuts is a hidden gem tucked away past the casino in a retrofitted chain fast food restaurant that is painted bright pink and orange. The Donuts are of the highest quality and there are so many to choose from that you won't leave disappointed. I recommend the Reese's donut and the Homer Simpson donut. Mmmm, donuts. Service will take as fast as you want it to once it's your turn to order. But if you are stuck behind a slow orderer, you may feel anxious with excitement over waiting for your turn to order donuts. An assorted dozen is $17, and it's well worth it for the level of detail that goes into each and every donut. I mean, really, one of the Donuts looks like Elmo! I almost felt bad eating him. After dinner we stopped at Amy's doughnuts to get something sweet, as you enter the place the sweet smell of sugar and fresh baked dough overwhelms your senses, (but in a good way!!!) then there's the choices!! There are so many delicious looking doughnuts to chose from. The guy behind the counter was super polite and answered my many questions about toppings and fillings. Finally I chose peanut butter and jelly glazed donut since that combo is my go to snack. And a old fashioned blueberry cake donut. My better half chose a turtle covered one and a Buckeye chocolate one. The PB&J donut was a yeast donut that was slightly glazed and topped with strawberry jelly it was very tasty. The Blueberry cake donut was full of blueberry flavor without being to sweet my wife said the turtle one was her favorite but wished it had more pecans. The atmosphere was a like a typical donut shop a few tables and chairs, they also have a bag of 12 donut holes for a buck if your budget is tight. Information not accurate anywhere. They expect you to know there 130+ donuts at the drive thru. What's the point of having that many when customers don't have the information. Today was the perfect morning for donuts and coffee to start the day. We traveled over to the west side and tried @amysdonutscbus I was impressed by the amount of speciality donuts. We stood in line and tried to make a decision for a 1/2 dozen but ended up making a spur of the moment decision because everything looked so good!! Easily 50 speciality donuts, all homemade with neat names and pretty designs. We opted for the buckeye classic, Long John, Andes mint, pretzel and chocolate and an Oreo peanut butter. I am going to update my review by saying, "Why haven't you gone here yet?" I took some more pictures to show the variety they had, which is leaps and bounds over most donut places. The few mentions I have to say about my visit here was that we tried out the two different cereal donuts they have available, which they put a vanilla glaze on an unfilled donut. The cereal was not stale and was quite crunchy and delicious. The lemon donut we had was sublime, so if you love lemon, get this donut. The only gripe I had was the white chocolate kit kat donut we had, the kit kat was stale and I didn't really get much kit kat flavor from it. Aside from that, you should give this place a try! Fun doughnuts. Though sometimes toppings can be excessive and stale. The concept is great and I also think that having community involvement is great with how the donuts are made. For me, glaze is a little too sweet but when those midnight cravings hit on the weekends Amy's Donuts is the way to go. Amy's donuts is the most interesting donut joints I've ever been to. The colors are bright, selection of donuts are massive, and it appears to be in an old Taco Bell but don't let that scare you. The donut creations are pretty incredible from the Elvis, with banana and peanut butter, to the maple bacon (Yum), and the red velvet looks awesome (its still over on the counter for now). The base of their donuts are mostly a very sweet yeast, they do have cake donuts also so don't freak out. These are very sweet donuts and delicious but you have to be in the mood for a very sweet treat. FYI a dozen specialty donuts will set you back around $17. Take the kids! read more
