My reservation was not restored, and my points and payment were not returned. I then contacted Marriott's Manor Club at Ford's Colony directly. Despite explaining that I had already spent over an hour on the phone with Marriott corporate without a resolution, I was repeatedly told to "call corporate." No one offered to hold my dates, escalate the issue, or assist in any way. This trip was scheduled around my baby's baptism, and I am currently 39 weeks pregnant. The lack of empathy and assistance made an already stressful situation much worse. I am left without $2,800 in Marriott Bonvoy points and the cash I paid (which was only $14 but still, money is money). The drive from the main road to the center is scenic, offering glimpses of Virginia's historic landscape before arriving at the center. Getting to the actual center seemed a little confusing as there are arrows describing the car tours to visit various sights when leaving the center. The center is not very large. The exhibits inside are well-organized and interactive, showcasing artifacts from the Battle of Yorktown, maps, uniforms, and weaponry from the era. There is a short film that provides an good overview of the battle and its significance in the history of our American independence. The center also features a gift shop with books, souvenirs, and historical memorabilia. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and offered suggestions regarding various tours that you could take when driving around the area. There are several well-marked signs leading visitors from the center to the surrounding area sites. The driving tours take visitors through key historic sites connected to the Siege of Yorktown (1781) and the broader Colonial National Historical Park. Overall, the Yorktown Visitor's Center is an great stop, providing an introduction to this historic battlefield and its role in shaping the nation.

It did a great job of explaining what led up to the British surrender and how it happened. I especially liked the part of a ship that was built into the visitors center. Walking through it really was like walking through an 18th century ship - very cool. The visitors center did a great job of explaining the surrounding area and helping us decide where to go. I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend checking it out when visiting Yorktown.

It stretches 23 beautiful scenic miles and cuts through gorgeous wooded terrain. The Parkway runs along the James River in sections and is an absolute must if time permits to avoid the highway and travel at slower speeds to enjoy the scenery. The project to build the Parkway began in the 1930's and coincides closely with the construction and rehabilitation of Colonial Williamsburg. The project concluded in 1957. The road connects the Historic Triangle of Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown Virginia all on one incredible tour. The Parkway is considered a park and is ran by the National Park Service. It also has the unique designation of being just 1 of 31 of its kind considered a "National Scenic Byway". Speed limits range from 35-45 mph and are patrolled by the NPS. Semi trucks are not permitted. The surface is concrete in excellent condition and well maintained. You can jump off and on at the tree cities. I can't help but be giddy about such a cool road with neat history connecting such historic communities. Best times of the year are Fall and Summer. Whether a tourist, or local it's a fun road to travel.

Just came back from a tour with the BEST guide. She was simply adorable…read more Her name is Liv and she is a student at William and Mary college. Therewas a pub walk where we saw the Wren building, a pub called Precarious that had a glorious fire pit outside. It was so cold and windy but Liv kept us warm with her stories. Then we went to Burton Parrish and in between she regaled us with stories about the area adding her own personal touches. This was such a fun event to do in a super awesome location. The only downside was the rest of our tour who were super cheap in tipping our guide. She was very pleasant with everyone and worked very hard in the cold to make sure we had a great time. I wish people understood how hard these kids work. We gave a generous tip and thanked her profuseyfor such a wonderful evening. I highly recommend!!!

The room, although nice, complete with a fireplace (it's just for show-doesn't get warm) is SO INCREDIBLY DAMP!!. It's disgusting and it stinks like a musty old basement . called to the front desk and they had maintenance bring a commercial dehumidifier (see picture). It's been running for over 24 hours now and thank goodness the room has dried out. The smell still lingers but not as strong. The maintenance guy even said "oh my gosh this is terrible. I feel it and smell it, I'm so sorry!" I rented a cabana overnight and paid at the front desk in the morning. Went downstairs to Check In and was told "I'm sorry all the cabanas are full. Someone made a mistake and didn't reserve yours" I was pissed and my daughter was disappointed. We had a cabana yesterday and wanted another one today. The manager offered an apology and a "free game of bowling or whatever you want." I was also told "I will look into your reservation and see what kind of discount I can give you." Of course I got refunded for the cabana, but no reservation discount. What I wanted was the cabana I reserved and paid for. What I got was a round table, a few chairs, towels and a free locker rental. The gesture was nice but definitely not sufficient. Our table was placed in front of two empty cabanas, although they had someone's name on them by, 4:45 PM no one had showed up for either one. Somehow I doubt they came at 5 PM when the park closes at 8 PM. One of those could've been mine! The internet...it's horrible. Been here 3 days and have been able to access internet probably 2 or 3 times. I have work emails to answer and can't. See pic of the message I keep getting. I tried airplane mode on and off, tried rebooting my iPhone, tried "forgetting the network"...tried everything the front desk staff said to try. $1200 for 3 nights and I can't even access my work email on a regular basis. I was offered a $50 refund on my stay because of this. We'll see if that even shows up. The only way I'm even able to write this review at 1:45am as I lay here in bed, is because it miraculously connected for the moment I don't even care about the $50, I just need the Internet like I get at every hotel that I visit. I swear, it's just been one thing after another here. I cannot wait to get back home. As much as I want to like this GWL location I just don't. I'm really looking forward to visiting Kalahari in November when it opens. P.S. on another note, staff is very friendly and pleasant and the lifeguards do a great job constantly checking the pool for safety.

Wow, wow, WOW! What a fascinating place! So much history!…read more My friend and I went for a ghost tour on a Saturday night. The woman who ran our tour is named Sarah and she is a direct descendant of one of the original families that lived there. Also assisting with the tour was a man named Kenny from a paranormal research group in Richmond. Kenny considers himself a sceptic. His organization (I can't remember the name), works to document data, analyze the data, and try to come up with a scientific reason for the "paranormal" incidents. Both Sarah and Kenny have LOADS of knowledge! They shared a lot of history and stories with our small group. They also provided K2 meters that detect energy fluctuations. The stories were absolutely fascinating, first-hand, and some very recent (including with Kenny the sceptic). While we were finishing our tour, we heard a loud thunk on the wooden floor of the landing where we were, as if it had been struck with a boot or solid-heeled shoe. Then the floor was vibrating in a progressing manner as if someone was walking across the floor. One of the light-up cat toy balls on the floor was lighting up like crazy and several of the K2 meters were lighting up. So how about that?! A tour WITH paranormal activity! What a fun experience!
