This is the busiest Amtrak station in Virginia. I'm speaking from experience and from actual facts. It's always crowded when I come here. I think it would benefit from a facelift, but it's still functional. I've taken multiple trains to NoVA and DC from this location. I've also gone to Philly from here too. The trains I've taken are usually comfortable and clean. My favorite part about this stop is the Richmond train mural. It's very charming. This station has functional bathrooms, vending machines, and booth seats. It tends to be the cheapest and quickest option for the trips I make. The train tickets to NoVA or DC are especially amazing. I love how low the prices can be. Anything to avoid traffic on 95 is a plus for me. Parking is never an issue here, there are soooo many spots in their parking lot. I'm grateful we have this station, but I wish there was more love put into it, especially since it's the busiest one in VA.

All A-Bored!! Now that I've been to several other Amtrak stations, the one here in Richmond seems ho-hum pitiful. I'm sorry, but it's outdated and small. The seating is old and uncomfortable. This train station needs a facelift! It could be really cute with some new fixtures and better seats. The parking kiosk is convenient and engine-eous as you can add more time from your phone. The parking lot is bigger so that's a plus. It could use some railroad décor, like the station in Ashland (which is small but interesting and appealing). The coffee cart has a few basic choices of hot foods for passengers to chew-chew, but the selection is not impressive. There was only one person tending the window when we were there last and the lines were long. C'mon RVA, Get on track! This station needs an overhaul. The train itself was clean and the seats were newly renovated. The train is still my favorite way to travel, even though I had to blow off some steam! ;-)

My first train ride. Very nice. The staff and passengers were very helpful to this "train ride newbie". The trains and stations were very clean and comfortable. The stations I visited were not fancy at all, but got the job done. The highlight for me was how easy train travel is compared to flying. Much nicer and less hassle. The bullet trains now have my support!!

Amtrak station on the line that comes up from Savannah and Charleston SC and then on from here to Washington DC and intersects with the line that goes from Virginia Beach through Richmond to Charleston WV and points west, Staples Mill Road is a convenient stop for us to pick up my niece and nephew from North Carolina rather than drive all the way down to pick them up. Or to have them wait here for a couple of hours for the connection. Not much for services here. A coffee and snack stand, bathrooms and waiting area, If you're here on a long layover, I'd recommend crossing the parking lot to the McDonald's. At least *they* have free wifi. Parking is free for the first three hours, otherwise there is an automated machine for making payments.

The station is clean but in desperate need for an update. No outlets to charge. There's a mini convenience store with snacks but no actual food like sandwiches. But for what it's worth it's, sufficient. I can't imagine it getting busy like NY Penn.

Ask the Community - Amtrak - Staples Mill Road

Is there long term parking here?

    Yes.

Is it easy to get an Uber at this train station?

    Yes.

What is travel between Richmond and DC like these days? Are trains crowded? Are they clean?

Can be crowded. But, still worth it

Is this train station closer to chester virginia? And how far away?

What is parking cost now after the renovations?

On September 10th I paid $7 for one day parking

Is this station safe at 4 or 5 am? I am planning a trip and have a 4 hour layover here.

I've been here at that time for a train that was due to leave. I stayed in the inside and sat down and had no issue. If an earlier train has available seats, you may get bumped to that train at no additional cost. That can vary.

I've visited twice within the past month -- once on a chilly weekend day to explore all the sights, and again this past weekend for Neon Night. The museum itself is pretty dense with exhibits. The Power of Poison exhibit was very well thought out and loaded with details and visuals. You could easily spend an hour in there. I enjoyed the Boost exhibit the most, as it was hands on. I don't have kids, so I can't speak for the kids-focused activities, but I did enjoy the reptile room quite a bit too -- especially the "search" for certain creatures in their tanks. Neon Night was well done and attended by seemingly half of the city. I kept running into people I knew. I'd definitely attend one of their after-hours events again in the future. At $25, admission was reasonable. Drinks were also cheap. A cup of wine was just shy of $7. I was shocked that the dome show was narrated, as I was expecting it to be more of a movie vibe. I do wish they'd add a coat check. It's nice they have a parking lot adjacent to their building, but it's still a decently long walk when it's 20 degrees outside.

I decided to take my mom to a dome show on a whim and was a little underwhelmed. I wasn't expecting it to be "live" and narrated by a person. I was expecting a recorded show. A movie, I guess. Documentary. The live part allows you to interact, which the kids seem to enjoy. But to me, that felt unorganized and not what I was there for. I know now, and will change my expectations. Maybe there are other "movies." I also didn't like how the navigation into the auditorium leads you to the bottom--the worst seating. It should lead you to the top where the best seating is. We didn't do the full monty and see the exhibits. Definitely would like to return to take it all in.

This is my go to of the ones in Richmond. It's closest to me too. Like most B&Ns, it's located in a strip mall so there is a bunch of free and easy parking out front. This B&N is just one level. And everytime I come to this one, I am always able to find the book I am looking for. I've noticed that B&N has a lot of gifts nowadays. You can find everything from puzzles to legos to notebooks. I know they've always had this, but it feels even bigger (maybe something to do with their Paper Source partnership). So if you're looking for a book and some cute gifts to go with it, this is the perfect place to do that. It's organized pretty well too. I typically don't need to ask for help when searching for a book. I've gotten everything from fiction to cookbooks to travel guides from this location. It's never too busy (unless it's a holiday like Christmas). They also have the Starbucks corner like most B&Ns do. I'd recommend coming to this location.
