Following a worthwhile tour, there were 6 unauthorized transactions on the card I gave them to prepay for the tour. I was billed about $400 so far because their system isn't secure. Expect credit card fraud following preparing for a tour. This started 2 days after using a secure card that I hardly ever use and that doesn't leave the house. They are at fault! RVA On Wheels has earned me as a lifelong customer today. I brought my ebike in for repair which has many things wrong with it. I got a call from the person servicing my bike, Josh, mentioning the issues on my bike would require a replacement part from my manufacturer. Rather than just quoting me the cost of the part through their distributor, he mentioned the part was available online cheaper if I bought it directly. So I purchased it and had it shipped directly to their shop. I am thoroughly impressed with their integrity and transparency. If you have a bike with a problem, this is the place to take it. We had guests in town for Christmas so we scheduled a tour with RVA On Wheels for a Segway tour of Shockoe Bottom. We started with training on the Segway to learn how to operate it. It was very easy to maneuver and easy to learn. We started the tour near the canal walk and made our way toward Shiplock. Along the way we would stop for points of interest and Jonathan, our tour guide, would tell us history of the area. He was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting and fun. We definitely learned a lot. The Segways were really fun to ride on. Makes me want to buy one for myself. I would highly recommend RVA On Wheels for their Segway tours. They also rent bikes. I bought the Groupon for the Segway tour months in advance. As our trip to Richmond grew nearer, the weather forecast looked drearier and drearier. My husband loves riding segways so we decided to keep the reservation and we are both glad we did. We bundled up (gloves, scarves, winter coats) to ride in the chilly 40 degree weather. The Segways maximum speed is 13 miles per hour. If you haven't been before, it's incredibly easy and quick to get the hang of it. The tour was fun, and informational. The tour visited the Christopher Newport Cross, Browns Island, the site of Edgar Allen Poe's childhood home (spoiler- it's a parking lot), and the Virginia State Capitol. The tour also showcased other fun facts about Richmond. I highly recommend this tour for locals and tourists. Its a fun way to learn more about the city. read more

If you want to see Richmond, this is the place. Their friendly and knowledgeable personnel can provide guidance on what to see, as well as almost anything with wheels to go see the sites. Bikes, both pedal powered and electric, are available for sale or rent. Guided tours are also available via Segway, Gem Cars, or trolley. The trolley looks old fashioned and the tour takes two hours. I really love this place. I've been on at least 8 Segway Tours. Every year for my birthday, we take a group of friends. We have done the RVA Mural tour 3 times, Hollywood Cemetery once AND this was our 2nd time doing the RVA Landmark tour. I've also done Segways in 2 other cities. Sadly, I have to say this was THE WORST Segway tour I've ever been on. Let me start with...I have never stopped or gotten off the Segway EVER during a tour. Usually the guide talks to us a group when we reach key areas-BUT WE ARE ALWAYS on our Segways! Getting on and OFF IS the hardest part....we must have stopped at least 5 times and GOT OFF Like it was a "walking tour!" We stood there looking like idiots with our helmets on in the grass. Never have I walked or stood as much as I did with this tour. It wasn't fun, it was awkward and I found the tour guide to be a micro manager! The tour guide focused so much in the History, he forgot it was a "riding" tour! #worstwalkingtour and it was a Segway Tour. He even tried to micro manage people walking around us direct traffic. Like he was a traffic cop! I couldn't believe it. He was terrible. I brought my nephew to Richmond for a weekend visit. We took the RVA Gem Car tour of Hollywood Cemetery. The best way to see the beautiful, historic cemetery. Our tour guide, Bob, was very knowledgeable about the cemetery and Richmond's history. It is not a tour most think about taking when traveling but if you are going to Richmond, take the cemetery tour and go by a Gem car from RVA on Wheels. read more

Sunday funday! I always enjoy Segway tours the 3 times I went on one, and this one was no exception. Yelpy coupon $68 tour for $46, good dealage especially considering a friend was accompanying me. The confirmation email didn't list a location, so that morning I called SOR to confirm and get a meeting location, and they told me I didn't have a reservation. Evidently the Yelp deal (even the time/date was listed on the email) didn't record on their reservations. Okay small snafu, but they did reserve us for another tour later that day. I should have asked them for recommendations to park. Found one place for $4/hr, not bad- then when we were practicing found that there was a municipal parking garage for $4/weekend day. Oh well. Checked in, waivers signed, helmets issued, etc. Our guide gathered us and started to go over Segway basics. She had us practice every manuever she mentioned. Most everyone in the group got the hang of it in about 10-15 minutes. The tour was a great nearly two hour one of downtown Richmond. There were a couple of scenic places to take memorable photos, a flat straightaway to "race" (the Segway governors limit your top speed to 12 mph), and a lot of interesting sights and points of interest. I had a great time, and more importantly my friend (who this was her first time on a Segway) had a blast! Very reasonable rates for a Segway tour, definitely recommend it for others! read more

I went on a Segway tour of Richmond with my family on Saturday. We had a diverse group of men and women aged 15-50. I think we all had some apprehension about riding the Segways but this was obviously something that our guide, Jeff, had dealt with before. One by one we each got individual instruction and attention from Jeff on how to steer the machine. Jeff was definitely patient and kind while we were learning. The Segways really are easy to get used to after 4-5 minutes of practicing. The instruction and practice was in a private alley so you are away from any ridiculing eyes. Our tour led us from their Shockoe Slip location, down the Canal Walk, up to CenterStage, to the Valentine Museum, the Museum of the Confederacy, and the State Capitol. Everyone in our group were Richmond natives but we still leaned a lot. Jeff was an excellent guide and included sidenotes and stories that aren't included in the history books. He also had a great sense of humor. The tour cost was $65 for a 2 hour tour but I think we had coupons for buy one get one half off. Now, we did have a bit of an accident during our tour. A 15 year old got slightly distracted and was coming up on another Segway quickly. In her panic she lept off of the machine. She ended up hitting a wall. Helmets are provided by the tour operator but she was still very shook up. She went to the emergency room and ended up only having a sprained wrist and a slight concussion. Even in this situation Jeff had good control and stayed calm. Despite all that (and knowing that she ended up being ok), I had a blast. The Segway itself is a really fun machine to ride and again, our guide Jeff was really excellent. I will probably do a Segway tour in other cities in the future and would do another Richmond tour if I had out of town guests come visit. read more

I love Segways but with our hilly terrain, you have to be very, very careful! Sorry to hear someone wiped out on their Richmond Landmarks tour. You can also do shorter "micro" tours of certain neighborhoods like mine, Church Hill, or South of Broad which takes you to Canal Walk, Tredegar, and Brown's Island. These guys are pros and you get a 15-20 minute lesson at the beginning. It's a really fun way to roll through the city! read more

My daughter and I went on the Segway tour of Churchill today. Our guide, Daniel, was jovial and pleasant. Riding the Segway was the most fun part of the tour. I wished there would have been more historical or anecdotal stories included in the hour long tour, but there was only enough time to stop in 3 places and talk a little about their history. I did, however, had fun zipping through the streets on my own wheels If you want to learn history of Richmond, I recommend the trolly tour (I did that last year). I used a groupon deal to do a one hour tour. Weekend was great weather and a lot of other people had the same idea. Luckily our tour had just 6 people. Our tour guide, Ashton, was good and concerned with safety which made me feel better given some reservations about riding the Segways. We had a good training session before starting. Only time I felt mildly unsafe was going down some hills and worried I couldn't stop but turned out fine (and there will likely be hills on any tour). The hour tour only hit a few spots, the canal walk area, Brown's island, Carpenter Theater and the Capitol but just riding around was very fun. The tour guide also was gracious to take pictures for everyone at the major photo ops. I think it is still a bit pricey at full price, but it was so fun that I will likely do it again and probably try the Hollywood Cemetery tour or Church Hill. Delightful time. Our tour guide was polite and knowledgable of the city. Our reservation got mixed up, but they fit us on a slightly longer tour (1.5 hour tour). We had a nice time! Ever see those nerds on a Segway fly by you in the city? We were those nerds and we'd recommend you become one too. It's an exciting machine! The history tour was nice, but in full disclosure we wish there was more zipping around on the Segway and less of a history class. Rented a Segway yesterday. I was in Richmond for the night alone and thought it would be fun. I had an incident about 30 minutes in in Church Hill by Poe's Pub. The Segway broke down and busted myself up a little. I had to leave the Segway and visit the ER. The guys at Segway of Richmond were great. That not only did not charge me for the rental but I recieved several calls from several employees, including the owner to see if I was ok. Accidents certainly happen but I can say they went above and beyond in showing just how caring and classy they really are. If you live in Richmond, you've definitely seen a group of segway-ers at least once. On a nice, weekend day in Richmond they're completely booked and after my first time I understand why. It's a great time. You get to see the city from a different angle, on a mode of transportation that you've probably never tried, learning facts about Richmond you would otherwise never know. Even friends I have that grew up in Richmond had a blast. My friend who isn't able to ride a bike was apprehensive that she wouldn't be able to ride a Segway but it's more intimidating that It actually is. Fun for all ages, genders and activity levels. Looking to blend physical activity with a wine tasting we signed up for the electric bike ride to Shirley Vineyards. The 25mile ride from the heart of Richmond to the vineyard was beautiful. It was fairly level and where there was uphills the electric bike definitely was a plus. The vineyard was beautiful and the wine tasting had some really good varieties. I would have given the review 5 stars except it ran long, 1.5 hours longer than advertised, with essentially no warning. And the guide was not very attentive to us along the way. read more

Went on a wine tour through them. They provided a driver and trolley bus to take us around. I didn't make the reservation for the tour so it took me a while to realize that they were the operators of the wine tour. Otherwise, everything went well and they seem to provide a lot of other services/tours. The seats on the trolley were ok but lacked a lot of leg room. Anyone over 5'5" could be very uncomfortable unless they sit on the front bench. read more

I've been living in Richmond for about 6 years or so and I wish I had taken this tour in the very beginning rather than the end of my stay. I bought a Groupon for a friend and I to use here. First off, my groupon was about to expire, but this place was nice enough to extend the deadline for another month. I called ahead to reserve our time slot for a 12:30 tour. Make sure to get there early since they go over the basics of how to use the segway. The tour guides did a great job of training us and I was zipping around in no time! The Tour. Our tour was an hour long and there are many different tours the place provides, but here's what we got to see... Christopher Newport Cross, Canal Walk Art, more of Canal Walk, Brown's Island, Tredegar Iron Works, State Capitol. At each place, the guys provided a great mix of random facts, history, and one of the guys even knew a historical person. Plus, you're doing all this while zipping around on the segways! Don't worry about being left behind! There were two guys who took care of us - one led the way and the other would follow up at the end of the group. Tips. You can leave your items like a coat, big bags, etc. in their closet are, but don't forget it! There's also these bags that are on the Segways that are great to put a water bottle, but same goes on not forgetting to grab it in the end. We had a great tour yesterday of downtown Richmond. Our guides were helpful, friendly and very safety conscious. The tour was 2 hours with a short restroom break - they didn't skimp on the time and we got to ride quite a bit. Going up and down hills, along bumpy sidewalks made for a fun adventure. Riding a Segway is easy but takes more muscle control than one would expect because it never stops moving - wear comfortable shoes. The Richmond tour is a good value for the money. read more

The way I understood it to be is there are a couple that are very popular so they run daily. For those that are a bit less popular are booked by a small group of pll that will be one of the tours offered for that day. My boyfriend and I bought Groupons for a trolley "brewery tour." The value on the Groupon was $80 per person and we paid $40 each for what we assumed combined was a $160 value for a tour of 3-4 breweries for 3 hours. We also erroneously assumed this would include beer. What a waste!!!! Basically the $80 value was for trolley transportation from brewery to brewery, no beer included, and the "tour" portion was a woman (who was very nice) reading off what beers they served from google when we got close to the brewery. Definitely not an $80 value, it was barely a $40 one. One of the breweries was even walking distance from this location. read more

My sister and I took this 2-hour tour in late September 2017. We are 'around' 70 years of age. She is from Alaska, I am from Richmond. Lucky for us, we were the only 2 on this weekday morning tour, so we had a private guide who was fabulous. First came some training in a quiet area near the office. Do not waste your money on their "brewery tour." There is no tour. They are simply an expensive ($80!!) designated driver. No tastings, 2 second explanation of each brewery that she read off the Internet, no roped off space for the tour patrons at breweries, no tours of the breweries. Save your money and just get a taxi, which will also take you door-to-door. read more

We saw them come by the Capital building and thought what a neat idea! We quickly googled a coupon which ended up being better than the discount they were offering at the shop. They honored it verbally which was great. They are well organized. They spend about 30 minutes offering instruction and letting you get used to the Segway. They were patient and confident that everyone would get it. We had the tour guide in the lead and another bringing up the rear. We went on the Landmark tour. It is advertised as a full length guided tour stopping at historical landmarks. The guide who trained us said they would give a lot of historical information and loved to play "stump the guide." However, the guide in the lead position did all the talking. We heard more about his college antics (very inappropriate), political views on Virginia politics (very negative), he slammed another tour in the city (the Poe Museum), and he was very snarky about upscale dining. We get it...he's a kid just out of college. He thought he was being funny, but it just came across as immature and sarcastic. If there had been some great historical information provided, the rest of it would have been forgotten. It would have been considered anecdotal. But, it was essentially all we received. read more
