And they all were great!! This is a walking tour and luckily the weather on June 7th was perfecto!!! Our tour guide Leah (Aleah maybe) was very informative and excited to show us around. The group consisted mostly of couples that seemed to be familiar with the surroundings. However, my guest and I were new to the tour and very much new to the Richmond's food scene. Therefore, we were already excited to be there and to experience some of VCU's Alternative Eats (that was the name of the tour)!! We were encouraged to wear comfy shoes of course and the meeting spot was a museum on VCU's campus. Most of the tours are walking tours, but Leah informed me about one (or two maybe) tour is on a bus throughout Richmond. The tours are held every weekend rain or shine. We parked on the street (2 hour parking) but the tour was from 2-430pm so we figured oh no...better get money out for the towing company. We didn't return to the car until 5ish but the car was still there unticketed...yes!!! All the places on the tour were great in their own way. This was a great group and I liked them all. If you want to try something new for cheap (take into acct two people at a restaurant spending about $50...but you get to go to 5 restaurants for $110) in my opinion, I definitely recommend it. They don't tell you the restaurants ahead of time so it's a hit or miss I assume, but being that our tour guide is a reviewer herself, I doubt she would set you up for failure. It's definitely ideal to not eat before the tour because after the 3rd stop I was full!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the portions are hearty, not finger foods on this tour. I can't wait to go back and try another area in Richmond... Have fun! The Black Sheep was feature on Man vs Food...fyi :) Also the tour guides up to 15 people Tickets are purchased in advance Check em out :)

The food is delicious and your get to try food from at least 5 or 6 restaurants. This is great because it helps build a list of restaurants that you can go back someday and have a complete meal. I've lived in Richmond for 27 years and these tours keep me abreast of what is new in the different sections of Richmond. I would highly recommend any of these tours for a great afternoon activity. This is a review for Captain Mike's private eagle tour…read more My fiancee's family and I booked a 2 hour private eagle tour this recent week and it was one of the most fantastic experiences I've had in Richmond! Our tour started bright and early at 7:30 AM out of a private yacht club dock on Captain Mike's pontoon boat. He provides everything you'll need for the trip from water for hydration, binoculars for avian viewing, and blankets if you decide to not dress warm enough. There is easily seating for at least 6 on the boat itself. There are restrooms right by the dock as well. Mike as a tour guide was fantastic. There's a difference between simply knowing what you're talking about versus being truly passionate about it, and Mike is absolutely the latter. Our tour brought us through 5 resident eagle territories (eagle pairs are extremely territorial and rarely cross boundaries), and Mike knew the names, history, boundaries, and interesting quirks about each pair. We saw at least one eagle from all of the pairs, and half of the time both the male and the female. He is also very knowledgeable about many of the other birds on the river like osprey, herons, cormorants, and kingfishers. Mike also keeps a stash of fish on the boat to feed the eagles and bring them in close. I knew we would see eagles on the tour, but I no idea that we'd be maybe 20 feet from them. There's a big difference between seeing one in a tree or a zoo versus seeing one swooping down in front you scooping up a fish to bring back to a tree or their nearby nest. It's really quite a breathtaking experience. The stretch of river itself is nice in its own right as well. If for some weird (and wrong) reason that you're not interested in learning about the majestic birds of the river, you could just sit back and enjoy a nice boat ride down the James. The site lists the details and cost of the tour if you wanted to read more about it. The private tour is about $300 for two hours for up to a group of six people. In my opinion it is absolutely worth it. There's a wealth of knowledge to learn about from Captain Mike, and everything was just a great experience. Absolutely recommend.

I would begin with your picture taken against a green background that would be used to put different Monet paintings at the end for purchase. There's a spot where you could have other pictures taken with some props like hat, cane, parasol, etc. Next will be timeline and some bits of Monet biography. You'll learn about some art principles behind impressionism. A brief video about his life is also played. Another section is filled with replica of his works. The next part is a model of Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies where you could cross the small bridge and have your picture taken there. The next room is a huge room where you could sit/recline to see his works being flashed going around on the walls. After this, for some additional fee, you could do the virtual reality part where you will be immersed in his works as if you are going to different places that were relevant to him and his work. I enjoyed this and thought it was cool. You can then proceed to the art area where you can color Monet art and have them scanned. The gift shop is there too where you can check out your photo. There's also a screen where you can have your picture taken and it will transform your image into a Monet style of painting. Overall, I thought there were more things and more interactive stuff at the Van Gogh Immersive Experience than this one. Nevertheless, I did enjoy since there was virtual reality too which was not available when I saw Van Gogh 2 years ago.

You learn about the artist the time period and the art. This experience starts with a self guided tour through an area with props where you can take photos then moves you to an area to learn the history and timeline of Monet. It includes a short film to orientate the viewer. Next you move to a room with many replicas of Monet's works set in a time period that matches decor of that period. Moving on you next enter a room that is a small copy of the famed Lilly pond from Monet's home and featured in many of his paintings. Then you enter the immersive part - a large room where his art is showcased projected on two story walls and the floor and constantly moving. There are plenty of seats and benches to sit and enjoy the colors and art. I did feel like the lighting was too bright from above and took away from the color of the projections- maybe a onetime mistake - but the overhead lights need to be dimmer and the room darker- thus my 4 star rating. We viewed it twice and it was very enjoyable. Next you leave the gallery to a VR room -for a small fee you can watch a VR session of the time period- definitely worth it. You want to do this. That's the grand Finale- everything is relaxed and at your own pace to enjoy. Afterwards you exit into the gift shop where you pickup some memorable stuff- prices are reasonable. iMO. It was a good experience worth seeing. Check it out if you can.

Upon arriving 3 mins before…read moretheir 4:15pm start time, we walked into the downstairs of Capital to see the rest of the tour folks taking a drink of the 2nd beer sample. I politely ask the tour guide, "What beers were sampled today?" His response was a look of confusion, and he didn't know the beers that were sampled. Better yet, we were not even offered the samples. Strike 1. Everything seemed a little disorganized and that was made evident when the owner, not giving the tour this past Saturday, asks "Who hasn't purchased tickets yet?" We were immediately looked at and given the look, you're not going on the tour because you walked in last; regardless of the fact that we purchased our tickets over a month beforehand. Evidently, the company could not count the number of people on their own tour list to see that we had 2 people too many. A couple that was there on their anniversary date were asked/told they would not be going and they would be given an extra two tickets. Strike 2. Upon getting on the bus and rolling over to Legends the group we were with was a solid group. We were all joking and having a good time. At Legends everything was a little chaotic and not organized at all (definitely not a shock after our start). It was nothing beyond the standard Legend flight, that was poured and half the time the tour guide pouring didn't know what was in the pitcher (Pale or IPA, he did not know). Really? Also, we were told nothing about the beers that were being poured, were given no tour or description how they brew there, nothing. Strike 3. Next up was Midnight Brewery. We arrive and find out there is some beer festival going on; interesting. We get inside and the guide has no idea what is going on. 5-10 mins later he walks around and hands us all a $5 beer coupon and says, "They are not doing samples due to the event." Ok. So my group and myself proceed up to the pouring area and talk to the bartender. Super nice and points out that most of the small brewery owners were there hanging out. So, the bartender knows more than our guide, awesome! We get introduced to the owner and was ask him to give us a tour. He was very welcoming and then introduced us to Neil Burton, the founder of Strangeways (where we were heading next). A huge thumbs ups for Midnight! Tour company: strike 4. We get to Strangeways and everything was. . . . unorganized/chaotic. Surprised? Me either. They give us a few samples to taste, and were nice. We again, heard nothing about their brewing process, did not see the brewing room, nothing. The beer was tasty, no question. Strike 5. This tour needs a major overhaul for it to be worth it. At $65 a ticket, this was one of the biggest wastes of $130 we had spent on a night out ever. I'm not one to bash a company, but for the 3 places we went (I'm not counting Capital since we didn't get any samples there) we could have gone and asked for a tour, had a few samples and spent half what we did.
