My daughter said the trip was great. The only disappointment was hearing about how their tour guide "Millie" was not very friendly. She was arguing with the bus driver and telling him how to do his job and yelling at the kids often. They even had to pull over because she was arguing with the bus driver. Doesn't sound like this is the right age group or job for this particular tour guide. I went also with anothe mom and choosing different sites from the children's itinerary. The government shut down two days before my child was supposed to leave on a NationsClassroom trip to Washington D.C., which meant he wouldn't be able to tour the inside of any of the government buildings. My initial thought was, "Oh no! This is going to ruin the trip!" But this company, with the help of the school chaperones, were able to pivot at the last minute and provide an alternative itinerary that was amazing and full of fun educational opportunities. I asked my child to rate his trip on a scale of one star to five stars, and he said "five stars" without hesitation. He had a great time! I could tell by all of the photos and texts he was sending me during his trip. He is a history buff, and he got to see so many different historical spots and museums around D.C. The three-day itinerary was packed, and he came home tired and full of memories. It turns out, even with a government shut-down, there is a LOT of stuff to see and experience around D.C. Everything with the trip seemed well-organized and safe, from my perspective as a parent. There was clear communication from start to finish, and I felt totally at peace sending my kid several states away on this adventure. I have a younger child who is looking forward to going on his own trip in the future. I won't hesitate to sign him up! read more

Thought the overall experience was great! My daughter felt rushed throughout the trip. I realize that it is important to keep them busy and active. When I was a kid on my 8th grade Washington trip, we went for an entire week. We had days with downtime and social times. So it was broken up with time to relax a bit. This DC trip was honestly a huge disappointment. Between the tour guide, Tito, and the bus driver, Pam, the whole experience felt badly planned and uncomfortable. We were taken to some pretty terrible food stops and rushed through places people were actually excited to see. On top of that, both of them made judgmental comments toward students throughout the trip, which made the atmosphere awkward and frustrating. Instead of making the trip fun and educational, it felt like we were constantly being talked down to. Our 8th Grade son just returned from his American History Tour of Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. and LOVED it! What the tour company can achieve in one week is an unattainable experience, emphasizing all the history he has been learning since 3rd Grade. To see it all in action, with passionate tour guides (thanks Seth!) bringing it all to life is priceless. The hotels were of high standard, with great accessibility to all the major sights without wasting commuting time. Their safety is a priority with security guarding the hallways through the night. Nations Classroom charged a premium price for what turned out to be a poorly planned, inflexible, and low-quality experience. Meals were completely preselected with no options--even when food was inedible--forcing families to spend extra money just so students could eat properly. Almost every meal was brown, fried, and greasy. The company did. NOT disclose that we would not have food options. While I appreciate that options for a large group should be limited for ease, zero choice was terrible especially given the very poor quality of food provided. Complaints were raised early, and nothing was fixed. The itinerary was disorganized and unrealistic, including a "6.5-hour" travel day that turned into 11 hour bus ride, wasting an entire day and making scheduled activities impossible. Our first day in London, fresh off of an overnight flight, was so packed, we ran through Westminster Abby in 30 minutes bc we had to get to the next event. Our first meal in London was a greasy cheeseburger with raw bacon. The kids who had time to eat didn't eat and the Waiters were told not to serve the second bus of students bc there was no time. On top of that, there was zero transparency in pricing, raising serious concerns about where the money actually went. Overall, this felt like a budget experience at a premium cost. I would not recommend this com for an international trip. I do not understand the multiple positive reviews of this company. Ours was an international trip; maybe that is the difference. Do NOT waste your money. Take your child on the same proposed trip and plan on your own. Our entire group is incredibly frustrated and grossly disappointed. Nations Classroom should be embarrassed. As I type this review, I am 11 hours into a bus ride that was supposed to end almost 5 hours ago. We lost our entire days itinerary bc of their incredible poor planning. The frustration is palpable. Stay Clear of this organization for international trips. They have no business planning them. read more

Our tour guides - Tom and Jen, as well as our bus driver - Chris, were amazing! They are very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Tour activities were great and informative. According to multiple students, the guide came across as somewhat mean. Guide frequently spoke about himself and wealthy people he knew and worked for. Guide made a comment about if our group toured New York with him that New Yorkers would think nice to meet you but please go back to Wisconsin. and made a comment that if he went to tour Wisconsin in a group that the people of Wisconsin would think the same way of nice to meet you but go back to New York, which is incredibly untrue. We just completed a tour of Washington DC with a group of rowdy 8th graders. Everything went off seamlessly, even with a couple curveballs with the government shutdown. All of the meals and attraction tickets were arranged in advanced and rearranged as needed with schedule adjustments. Our tour guide Rick was very informative, funny and excellent with the kids. You definitely have to plan for long days and planning on squeezing a lot in. Overall a great experience. My only recommendation would be maybe seeing a little less and having longer time at some of the feature attractions. read more

My son had a great time on his 8th grade class trip to DC and Pennsylvania with Nations Classroom! My only suggestion would be instead of having the kids leave on a red eye from CA and start their first day in DC with a jam-packed day of 10 miles of walking, maybe start slow and work your way up to a more intense itinerary. All the kids were wiped out and tired, not to mention jet-lagged. They still managed to have a fun time, and learned a lot, but it would be ok to cut back on the number of sights to have more time at each one. For example, my son was fascinated by the Holocaust and African American History Museums, but felt his time there was too limited. Overall, the trip seemed very organized and well-planned, maybe just a bit too much for the kids to take it all in. read more

Not happy at all. My daughter's trip was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. The total amount we paid was $2598, though our refund will only be $2188, or about 15% less. Company is stating this is due to nonrefundable expenses on their end. They did initially offer an travel insurance policy but that stated it was only valid if the participant canceled on their own volition. It did not state anywhere that a full refund wouldn't be offered due to external factors, such as a global pandemic. Nonrefundable expenses should not be passed down to the consumer unless clearly stated. This company does business with my daughter's middle school regularly. I will advise future potential participants to look elsewhere. In these times every dollar matters and this multi million dollar company has the audacity to not offer a full refund for services not rendered. read more

We used Nations Classroom for my daughters 8th Grade trip to Washington DC. Our trip is parent-driven and 1 parent attends with their child. Nations Classroom planned a great itinerary and handled all the logistics for the trip. In light of the constant change in Covid restrictions, Nations even revised our itinerary when needed.
