My friend and I stopped in on a whim on a Friday night after shopping in the area. I'd heard good things about this place and love wine so I figured we'd check it out. Upon entering, the host (older gentleman) seemed annoyed that we were there since we didn't have a reservation. I said we'd happily sit in the bar (as I looked over and noticed two empty tables). He begrudgingly sat us at a 2 seated table. It took about 15 minutes for our server to come over and pour us water when she noticed we didn't even have menus. The wine menu is so hard to read! It's in like 8pt font and the bar is rather dark or at least where we were seated it was. Their wine list is extensive, but they only have a few glass pours for each varietal which are in bold font. For their bold reds, they only have half a dozen or so glass pours - I was rather disappointed and decided on the Recanteur Cab. I was really hoping for something from the Santa Lucia Highlands, but I guess that was an older menu or something I saw online. We ordered a butter board and 4 different tapas. Our butter board never came. We had to ask for it AFTER all of our tapas came out because we were still hungry (I'll get to that later). We ordered the meatball(s); scallop(s); gougere; and the potatoes. They brought out the meatball first. My friend and I looked at each other and were very confused. We thought these were tapas (e.g. meant to be shared between two people because that's exactly what the menu suggests), so why did the plate in front of me have one small meatball? It wasn't even a large meatball that could be split in half and enjoyed between two people. Next they brought out the potatoes and gougere which were fine and shareable as the gougere came with two pieces. They forgot to bring us our final tapa. Our waitress told us the person running food threw away our ticket so she had the kitchen make us a new one. When I say one, I literally mean we were brought ONE scallop for $12! Again, my friend and I just looked at each other and laughed because what else could we do at this point? Our waitress came over and I told her that we were still hungry considering we'd split a meatball, scallop, and had a few other snacks along the way so we still wanted the butter board hoping for some carbs. The butter board came with 4 thinly sliced pieces of bread and three different butters which were good. I'd order it again, but I'd ask for more bread. There was way too much butter for the amount of bread you get. My wine glass sat empty for at least 15-20 minutes before our waitress came back over. She apologized and said this isn't normal, but they were super busy (as I looked around and the bar was practically empty at that point). She poured us each a glass of wine on the house because our experience was pretty awful and she acknowledged that so I appreciated her trying to make up for it. When we got the bill, there was a 5% back of house service charge. I'm not sure what this is for, but I encourage you to pay your employees a decent wage. I mean, your prices are high enough to afford such. All in all, we spent $73 (not including tip) on two glasses of wine and 4 tapas (e.g. 1 meatball, 1 scallop, a few mini potatoes and 2 cheese pastries) and left hungry. read more
