The ambiance was fantastic! I came to hear a friend sing but was pleasantly surprised with the yummy coconut mimosa (forget what it's called) and the side house salad was refreshing. I tried paella for the first time so I didn't know what to expect. It was pretty tasty;y husband and I were able to share the paella for one. read more

AMOR - Paella for one and the steak and potatoes in the back. - Tapas/Small Plates Near Me - Tacoma, Washington

This weekend was the soft opening of what promises to be a great, new place in downtown Tacoma. We booked by invitation from the owner on Open table for early evening and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious tapas and some wonderful Prosecco. Right now they are getting started with drinks and a select menu of tapas. Next week they'll add more tapas and some entrees. In the future there are plans for brunch and lunch. We. Can't. Wait. As we entered from Pacific we were struck by the high ceilings, sleek furnishings, classic palette and the eclectic artwork that includes a gigantic, dewy apple-very Washington! We were greeted by Randy, the guy in charge of the clever and thoughtful beverage program, and offered our choice of tables. I'm sure, in the near future, that won't be the case! Based on what we saw and tasted, this place will soon be full. We started with charcuterie and cheese plates that were full of savory flavors and clever accoutrements like an apricot jelly and very toasted almonds and some very creamy mustard... Next we experienced a flavor bomb called Boquerones with juicy anchovy and roasted tomato topped with a preserved lemon and green olive topping. Then we had Arancini-creamy risotto crisply fried in a coating of bread crumb with gently spiced pomodor sauce and deep fried basil that looked like stained glass! Then a tender, green crepe (chive) topped with carrot apple slaw and confit duck and a lacy cheese crispy. Today I learned about 'soubise'-an onion sauce from France! The first introduction was infused with mushrooms and under some sautéed wild mushrooms with carmelized onion and thinly shaved parmesan and a sprinkle of micro greens. Next was Polpetti-a pair of tender meatballs with a parmesan cream that was incredibly smooth and fluffy along with fried garlic slices and zesty tomato sauce. Anyone who knows me knows I love, LOVE scallops. And the scallop dish I had at Amor tonight was one of the best I've had! Three scallops were perfectly seared and buttery. They sat on onion soubise that was even better than the mushroom version. The topping of almond streusel with an almost shortbread texture and a savory caramel was just about life-changing. We finished with the flourless chocolate cake topped with poached pears and truly fabulous creme anglaise and a tall, thin, crispy cookie. It was all perfectly wonderful together and not too sweet! We are fans of the artistry of Chef Enrique Vargas and wish the owner, Chris Dasef, much luck and a long tenure here in Tacoma. The beverage list is full of great things by the glass, some epic ports and fortified wines, great bottles and more. read more

I am all about supporting local businesses, especially new ones. However, the experience I had at Amor seems to have differed substantially from that of my fellow reviewers. When my husband and I arrived last Saturday evening for our dinner reservation, our host seemed annoyed with our presence. When he walked us over to our table and we asked to be moved one table down for more space, he seemed exasperated but agreed to have us move. An odd start to the meal. Speaking of the meal -- I had made us the reservation specifically based on menu items I had seen on Amor's website -- like the duck confit salad, risotto, fish tagine and other delicious-looking options. However the menus we were given only listed the tapas flight option, paella for two and then maybe three entree options total. I understand that dishes run out, but it would have been nice for the host or server to inform us of the significant changes to what was offered. Because of a food allergy and dietary preferences, we ended up having fewer options to choose from. Nonetheless, our server was wonderful and attentive. Drinks and wines were good, and the tapas were filling and tasty. I just wish I could have tried the items I went there for in the first place :) I would go back to try their brunch for sure, as downtown Tacoma really doesn't have many other brunch options to choose from. So this was a needed addition! read more

Came here as part of a PNW Foodies Meetup event. Bottom line, great food, great wine, great atmosphere, great service. We had a delicious Caesar salad that was big enough for three of us to share. Followed that with clams and mussels in a rich sauce over polenta, roasted cauliflower with sweet tomatoes and a perfectly cooked steak with roasted vegetables. We finished the meal with crème brûlée topped with sliced strawberries. Every bite was succulent. The atmosphere is fantastic as well! They do a great job of making it seem cozy and modern while actually being big enough to fit numerous tables. Their outdoor courtyard is bright and quant while offering some tables in the shade to fend off the heat if needed. Service was attentive and patient. We were having a great time chatting and catching up with an old friend, and our server gave us enough space while letting us know at the same time that she was ready when we were. My wife wanted a custom basil vodka dirty martini with a copious amount of lime juice and she eagerly obliged, it was delicious. We also got to meet Chris, the owner. He is a dedicated restaurateur with an eye for detail. He talked about the food and what the restaurant meant to him with passion and pride. Give this place a shot, it's worth your time, your money, and your palette deserves it! read more

The kitchen/back of house at this place is very good. The food is delicious and this was my 3rd visit this year. But front of house had been indifferent each time. I made a reservation for 4, including two youth and arrived on time. The host (who I understand is the owner) seemed unprepared for us. We waited while he sorted out a party ahead of us, then he seemed initially flummoxed by our reservation. He seated our party at a table which he moved from the bar into the wine storage area behind the host stand. This was a surprise, as I had a reservation and expected the dining room, but we rolled. What became obvious was that we were in no one's section. It took a long time before a server set the table and brought us water. Then another stretch before we got menus. We ordered Sangria Blancos and a bottle of wine. The wine came before the sangria, and what arrived was Sangria Rosso. I pointed this out to the host and my impression was he was annoyed with me. He took the drinks and walked away. 10 minutes later (now with our first dishes arriving) he returned with the correct drinks. The food took a long time to come out and the server mentioned the kitchen was backed up. My son had ordered only a single dish and his didn't arrive until the rest of us were nearly done with our entire meal. Our primary server was friendly and efficient. She'd clearly had us added to her existing section and was doing her best. The food remains excellent. Great flavors, attractive execution. Our server clearly worked hard to adapt to having us thrown into her section and I tipped her properly for her good service. But this is my 3rd time and i wonder if the owner enjoys the hospitality trade? He offered no apology for the awkward table, the slow service or the mixed up drinks order. In any business, you can create empathy and understanding with basic communication. If you go, expect the food to be good. Maybe I'm just have unrealistic expectations about the rest of the experience. read more

Good service and good food. The restaurant inside can be hot in the summer and it is a little crowded also inside when it is full.

Meh. Food was okay. Not worth the price. Very small inside, tables were too close together. I'm not sure if he was an owner or what but some guy just picked our plates up and took them without introducing himself and asking if we were done. One of the cooks made us feel uncomfortable with the constant staring. Waitress was okay, took a while for us to get utensils and order and that's with it not being busy at all inside. Definitely not going back. read more

The menu has changed. The 109 per couple is no longer in service. It's 74 per person. They also took off the seared scalloped and short rib from the menu. The scalloped is the reason I came to the restaurant to begin with. No worries, I was still excited to try the menu. I ordered the Italian flight to go with the tapas. It was great. The figs are probably the best dish hands down. The Ambiance is small but quaint. I would definitely come back again. Great place for wine and cheese boards. read more

So glad this place is open!!! We went for a date night, and had the best time! It's a cute little place and has quite a few tables but I would make a reservation! We had some wine to start with (they pour you a little taste to make sure it's actually something you'd like) and then started with the butter board. It came with 3 big hunks of butter that were different types, and like 6 small pieces of bread. They offered more bread and we said yeah but were unaware that they charge $5 for more (crazy to me tbh). For the mains we had the short rib ( MUST HAVE ) and the carbonara (needed more flavor). Their tapas are good, we had the duck crepes and the pomme frites w/ their homemade ketchup! So tasty. Can't wait to come back again for next date night. But ORDER THE SHORT RIB!!! read more

We went with another couple. It was our first time dining at the restaurant. We were seated right away for our 6pm reservation. Our drink order came right away without much of a wait. I ordered their Plum signature cocktail. It was a nice, refreshing summer drink. Two of us ordered the Scallop Risotto + our spouses ordered the Lasagna. Our main courses were excellent. We all shared the Flourless Chocolate Torte with poached pear + whipped cream. It was a nice way to end our dinner. The only complaint we had was the music was loud + we had a hard time carrying on a conversation with our friends. We mentioned it to the owner. He explained that they were having some issues with the sound system + hoped to have a solution to the problem. Overall, we enjoyed our evening at Amor very much. We'll be back! read more

AMOR - Scallop Risotto entree was delish! - Tapas/Small Plates Near Me - Tacoma, Washington

Pretty frustrating to walk inside a restaurant and have multiple people look at you and NOT ONE person greets you or acknowledges the fact that you're standing in the doorway for FIVE MINUTES. read more

I would give zero stars to this place if that was possible. We came here because the restaurant across the street had too long of a wait and we were going to a show at the nearby theatre, which we told our server. Twenty minutes into it and all we had was water. My partner ordered the paella and I ordered tapas. I asked our server to bring my tapas out when the paella was done because I didn't want to eat alone as we were told there was a slight wait for the paella. My first tapa came out.. and then it came out again. Mind you... I ordered 4 different tapas.... and I only got 1. I also ordered wine which never came until the end of the meal and the other 3 tapas never came. Instead, they brought me the same tapa 4 times. I don't even understand the 5 star ratings for this place. Even the food we did get came to the table cold. This was literally the WORST dining experience in my entire life. I will never come back and I hope they close so that people like us won't waste $100 on the worst food ever. read more

Great service, delicious drinks and the steak entree was very satisfying and large enough for two people. I would recommend this place if you like above average, reasonably priced unique food. read more

Very good quality food well prepared- lovely ambiance- Be aware that the online menu differs from the actual menu. Also, it is a little pricey-2 Caesar salads that were not entrées came to $36. Even though there weren't many people dining, the service felt rushed. They brought us plate after plate of tapas in rapid succession and then offered to-go boxes before we were even done eating. I really dislike that in a restaurant where you get the feeling they just want to move people in and out fast. Unable to really relax. otherwise I would say absolutely try it. The food is good. The wine list is awesome. The service was good. read more

Outstanding food, wine, and service. Nice tapas selection. Recommend making reservations on Fri/Sat nights.

The ambiance strikes you first at this lovely restaurant. Purple floor to ceiling velvet curtains, an entire wall painted as a rose bud and beautiful artwork. The food is excellent and plentiful. The idea of tapas is great because it gives you options of several tastings. The mushroom risotto is just the best! The wine is a bit pricey but this is a special evening kind of place. Our server, Noel, happened to be the hostess, only server, buser and bartender for the entire restaurant the last night we were there. There is an indoor and outdoor space and bar seating so it was very difficult for her to keep everyone happy and make all the drinks. (especially on wine flight night) However, She was super friendly and managed to do it all with a smile. She makes a great "amor" martini with a floating flower. We have been here 4 times and will surely come back again. However, we think having 2 employees during a busy time would be a great asset to this gorgeous place. read more

My first visit here was wonderful. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, catering to a more intimate setting with lowly dimmed lights and Spanish tapas for sharing. I remember the chorizo crostini, risotto al Nero di sepia, and foraged seared mushroom being really delicious! Only thing I'd add would be for the waitress to be more attentive. Other than that, I'd definitely return. read more

We had reservations for 3 and sat in the bar as an alternative to sitting next to the dirty dishes station. We ordered All Tapas. Small table was quickly covered with a cascade of dishes. Food was fine but very rushed ... wine was great. Would have been nice to get a better description of food dropped at table. read more

Lovely place. We stopped in for a drink before our dinner reservation up the street. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We would have stayed for a second drink but the music portion of the dance performance was so loud that we couldn't talk to each-other. It was a beautiful performance but not good for anyone wanting to actually speak to their friends. read more

Food was ok but I liked the variety of small plates, the service though was awesome. The environment and feel is good.

Over priced. They added an extra amount to the tip we left which was on top of their mandatory service charge. Watch your receipt and your bank charge as ours was modified once we left the restaurant. We also weren't told we would be sharing a table w strangers when we made a reservation. We won't be back which is too bad bc we like to support local businesses. read more

Food was fresh and tasty Went on Valentine's Day so felt a little rushed But service was excellent none the less Ambiance is great for a date night read more

We sat on the back patio, which was cozy. They seem to be still getting set up; understandable for a new restaurant and also early spring. The wine list is top notch! We sampled several different reds, and they were all delicious and highly rated on Vivino. We ordered the boquerones, patatas bravas, foraged mushrooms, and albondigas grande - all superb! We'll definitely be back for either paella or the all tapas menu. This place is a gem. read more

Run, do not walk to this place. What a gem of a restaurant. The lamb tartar and chocolate tort are 10/10. I would sincerely eat both once a week for the rest of my life. Service was great. Noel is an awesome server who was super sweet too. Great happy hour, exceptional vibes. Again, run, do not walk to this spot. read more

My husband and I returned from a trip to Spain recently and were hoping for some tapas. Yes, the menu online is different from in the restaurant but roll with it everyone. We got the boquerones, papatas bravas and some other tapas as well as the half rack of lamb and everything was amazing ESPECIALLY the lamb. The service was nice and attentive and we went on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy. Overall it's a great date night meal and though it isn't the cheapest in town it definitely is high quality. Glad we went! read more

This space is the perfect blend of romance, sophistication, and Tacoma spirit. The tapas tasting menu was incredible, with a vast array of meats, cheeses, seafood, and other amazing bites that brought the Spanish charm of tapas to downtown. The owner was delightful and the bartender (Luisa?) made us feel so loved as we celebrated our anniversary. This will be a wonderful place to visit time and time again! read more

We stopped in randomly because there was a huge wait across the street at Wooden City. There aren't enough small plates restaurants in Tacoma, and this one does not disappoint. We had the duck confit crepes (don't be scared, the crepe is light green), the zaalouk eggplant (this dish is the right mix of sweet and savory), the couscous (lovely chunks of carrot and parsnip in this one), and the bocquerones (they serve dark anchovies). Nice cocktail selection too, and a few gins that are less commonly available! read more

We had such a wonderful time here. The food was amazing! I liked the lamb tartare, scallop and meatball the most of the tapas but all were so good! Each different but all went together well! Plus, it was an enjoyable experience to try all together. My mom had the beet salad.... That's a must try! Another time I went here I had the cauliflower steak..... delicious! It was so awesome because we went for my birthday and they had flamingo dancers and live music. The art work is beautiful and the service was the best we've had in a very long time. Her name is Nadine.... She made our experience for the 1st time memorable and made us definitely want to go back! Reservations are a must! Enjoy! read more

Delicious! Great wine list and beautiful tasty food! Rotation of Tapas to share and main courses too!

No regrets! My friends and I were greeted by a super friendly hostess and ended up making some great memories here. Our waitress was Sydney, she was so sweet! The tapas were a nice treat. OMG the Pomme Frittes (Fried Potatoes w/Trio of Sauces) are so good we ordered more lol! This place has beautiful energy and major potential. We enjoyed the patio. We Can't wait to come back once they launch brunch. Maybe add bottomless Mimosas? "B's love brunch and Mimosas" lol! read more

It took me until the next day to write this review as I had to process the dinner. The restaurant is nice. This was my first time there and I was with a group of four, two of whom are elderly. This was a going away dinner for my goddaughter. Chris is the owner and was very cool. We had a rsvp inside but Chris suggested we sit in the bar area as it was a bit cooler there; he was correct. However, I think we missed out on service. We ordered the paella for two, plus the tapas for two. It was enough food. The tapas didn't come out in any order, in fact my goddaughter believed they missed the one of them. Mostly, the food was delicious. It would've been nice to be able to ask questions regarding the tapas but Sean, who was the bartender, was not the right one to ask. The mushrooms were delicious, the squid was great! The restaurant was short staffed, I appreciate Chris telling me that as everyone was working hard. I'll try it again, maybe for brunch when they could be less busy. read more

Came in here before a show at the Pantages down the street. Small place, so make a reservation! We came here thinking we were just going to do a light meal of tapas, but when we saw the menu, that went out the window. The owner gave us some amazing recommendations! We did start with the cheese board from the tapas menu, which was a perfect starter with delicious cheeses, candied nuts, olives, and apple slices. My wife had the braised shortribs, and they were OUTSTANDING. The waitress brought her a knife, but she didn't need to use it at all. The meat was so tender it almost fell apart on the fork. Like cutting butter. And the sauce and the parsnip mash (I think) were wonderful. I had lobster and scallop risotto, another DELICIOUS winner. Look, it's super easy to mess up scallops. The perfect scallop sits on that line where 30 seconds more cooking and it's rubber, 30 seconds too short and it's raw. These were ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY COOKED. Some of the most perfect scallops I've ever had. They were buttery and tender and just wonderful with the perfectly al dente risotto rice. My ONLY complaint (but not enough to give this place less than 5 stars!) was the food took a bit long to come out. Not to the point where I was upset, but we were starting to get a bit concerned we'd be late for our show (we weren't, but didn't have time to try desert). This is a new place and I'm sure they're getting their rhythm down, so don't hold this against them! Seriously, try this place. It's wonderful. Great atmosphere, huge wine list, well stocked and staffed bar, just a gem of a place for date night or drinks & snacks with friends! (Sorry, I didn't take any photos. Food was too good) read more
