We came with a larger party for a birthday so I wasn't able to track everyone's food order or their impressions. We made reservations for 7:00 PM and were seated promptly upon arrival by the friendly sommelier. It was packed at 7:00! This made the noise level pretty loud so conversations were hard to keep up on. Our server was very friendly and timely. The wine and drink selections were excellent. I grabbed Mr Snuffleupagus because the concept of a tahini washed rye was too much to pass on. It was fantastic. The tahini almost comes across with a PB-like flavor. I ordered the steak frites, medium rare. We shared the pickle plate and fried mushrooms. The pickled carrots were great. Loved them. The pickled fennel was also delicious. The mushrooms were lovely - very enjoyable. The frite were awesome! You can certainly tell the they're fried in beef fat. The steak was perfect. We loved Corbeau and will certainly come back. read more

Nice French inspired cafe in the Proctor district. Limited menu with favorites and seasonal items. Nice to try some different things. This time, we had fish with dandelion greens and some mashed potatoes. Gnocchi was fluffy and very simply prepared with sage butter and some squash. Snap peas with peppers were SO good. And the pickle plate included some delectable mushrooms making it a bit different than the usual. The almond apricot tart was worth every calorie. Service was friendly, though the pace seemed a bit off (slow). We were nicely satisfied but feel the portions were on the small side since we easily finished 2 entrees and appetizers and we usually split one entree, sometimes with leftovers. read more

Corbeau is a gorgeous space, with dark walls and immaculate decor, a beautiful bar, and cozy dining area that allows diners to feel secluded. It's primarily a wine bar, but they have plenty of other alcohol options from cocktails and beers to NA options. The bar is quite frenetic with the kitchen right next to it, and the energy of bustling servers creates traffic jams on that side of the restaurant. It's also directly between the bar patrons and the bathroom, so they frequently redirect customers around through the dining room. Reservations are a good idea. I got the Homebody, a warm drink with a fun kick of chai. They were out of the cream they usually use, so I would've appreciated a slight discount on it because it was already a little overpriced for the size. My partner got A Good Man is Hard to Find, which she enjoyed. Their menu makes it clear that they take their time, and I appreciate that dedication to craft. My burger was delicious - juicy and tender while still being structurally sound. The fries were overflowing from the cup, but served lukewarm. read more

Amazing food for a romantic date night. Its a small restaurant with French bistro vibes. It was busy for Friday night and packed because of Valentines day, so thank goodness we reserved ahead of time. Service for how quickly cocktails and food came out was a bit slow but it was expected because they were very busy. I ordered their half dozen oysters, bread and butter, bone marrow, and new York steak with beef fat frites. I have to say the bone marrow was mediocre, but everything else was delicious. The steak was done perfectly. Medium rare and I typically dont go for the new York steak because its more lean, but the chef cooked it beautifully and the sauce (i think it was like a blue cheese sauce) that went on top works well. And omg the beef fat frites is a must get. They were well done, crispy, and has a very rich umami flavor because of the beef fat. I need to come back to try their regular menu. read more

This was our second time eating at Corbeau. I follow them on Instagram because they change their menu every six weeks. We decided to try the Korean Caesar salad with frites on the happy hour menu to start. Hands-down, one of the best Caesar salad salads we've ever had. The frites are always amazing. I won't go too much into the dishes because they do change, but they were absolutely amazing. The hibiscus, gin and tonic.- delicious. We also have the dessert which was such a unique set of flavors and I cannot remember the name. My husband says it's some of the best old-fashioned he's ever had. Service was absolutely great this time. We are super excited to have something so close to home and it's so absolutely delicious. read more

This is my 2nd time writing this review, as Yelp mysteriously got rid of my original one 4 days ago. Shout-out to the hostess for getting us a reservation table on a busy Saturday night. She was super nice, our waitress too. The place itself is very cute, super noisy (be mindful if you have hearings aids or are prone to sensory issues because it is CRAZY loud - so much so that they have noise reducing panels all over the ceiling and walls). It's very much a romantic aesthetic but the tiny tables become a nuisance when they bring you a plate per food item (steak and fries come separately, etc). The food itself is where we were kind of... disappointed is too strong a word, but something nearing it? We ordered the bread (which should never be $7 but here we are), the French onion soup, the steak and frites and the scallops. I'm a Spaniard so I'm very used to carne en salsa de pimienta, which I feel is what the steak sauce was meant to be. It was, don't get me wrong, it was just pepper on steroids! It definitely wakes you up!! It was missing some other spice or herb that I couldn't quite place but it wasn't bad at all, just definitely strong. Personally, the steak was well cooked but my husband said it was too dry for medium. The fries were very tasty but we are still team duck fat, and the soup was okay, but we've had tastier. Our main gripe was with the scallops. Keep in mind that the scallops were $47 (the steak was $45). The scallops were served over a bed of lentils and radish slices for some reason. Well, lentils, radishes AND ginger. By ginger, I mean all of the ginger in all the worlds' countries. Horseradish could give this dish a run for its money in the nasal clearing department. We didn't understand the almost Indian flavors in tacoma-french cuisine. It didn't pair well with the scallops and the rest of the menu, honestly. We couldn't eat it so basically we paid $47 for 5 scallops. Lovely that financial journey for us! If you're into sensorial challenges, both auditory and gustation, then Corbeau is the place for you! It's a nice place for a fancy looking dinner, but you won't be able to hold a proper conversation unless you're yelling. Also, don't be surprised - there's a 20% surcharge on every check. read more

Not impressed with service, food or mandatory extra charge on the receipt for tipping the rest of the staff. I'm not understanding why customers are having to pay restaurants while staff? Why doesn't the owner pay wages to cover that? I'm happy to give a generous tip, but I do not like being forced to pay the whole staff. read more

I was hearing really great things about Corbeau, and finally got to experience it when we were there celebrating a friend's 30th birthday. Excellent service, great cocktails, and the ambiance was cozy and inviting. Recommendations: For cocktails, the house old fashioned was one of the best I've had in Tacoma. And try the Mushroom Cassoulet with flageolet beans, miso, breadcrumb, and sunny egg. So good! Almost amazing. The lamb was cooked nicely and tender but Underseasoned, had to ask for salt. Frites were soggy, steak was also underseasoned and some how dry and chewy on the outside and rare on the inside. But you could tell everything was fresh and from scratch. Appreciate that. Was a little noisy and hard to hearing eachother talk. Overall I would not recommend this place at its price point. read more

The service was.... ok. Nothing stands out as spectacular but also wasn't horrid. The food however was atrocious. The morel pasta, bland and extremely overcooked and gummy. I couldn't eat it. My husband got the salmon, served on a bed of greens. salon was "okay." Sister got the steak frites; steak was wretched. Burger was lackluster and fries were overly salty. We've been here a few times and love corbeau. We took a friend for her birthday dinner last week and it was very good, but honestly a few misses, that we didn't expect. First, let's talk about the food. Ordered the tomato toast and it was by far, the winner of the night. My husband loved it so much he ordered for his main. We also had the pork pate/terrine, also very good. I decided to have the hamburger with frites, good, but just good. I miss the mussels and frites so much!!' The desserts were what really fell short (and I love their beignets....but tonight, not so much) the beignets were super doughy and undercooked. We also got the black sesame crusted fruit something, which was soggy and just not great. I love corbeau so I think just an off night, but please bring back some of the opening dishes. Friday night, date night... Overall the experience was okay. The service and ambiance was great. It was loud, but we knew that going into our reservations from reading previous reviews so it wasn't really an issue for us. The cocktails were very good! My wife had the House Hibiscus Gin & Tonic while I had the Slim Pickens (their twist on a Whiskey Sour). I'd highly recommend both drinks. We ordered the Bread & Butter as well as the Scallops from the appetizer menu and both were delicious and I'd recommend both. As for the entrees, my wife ordered the Steak & Frites while I ordered their Half Chicken. The Steak & Frites were good, but nothing really mind blowing nor worth the cost. I was excited about the Half Chicken having seen it all over Corbeau's Instagram page. The sauce, and veggies underneath were far better than the chicken. The chicken was dry and bland to taste. Overall disappointing, again for the cost. The service from the staff was attentive and overall excellent. For drinks and appetizers, I'd highly recommend. The food here was amazing! My friend took me out to dinner last week and she ordered the steak frites and I had the burger frites. The steak had a yummy, savory almost soy-sauce-y kind of sauce that was delicious. Although she did say it got to be a little salty for her over time. I loved my burger it was cooked to perfection with a little pink, it was juicy and the flavor was immaculate. There's just something about arugula on a burner that I just am obsessed with. Def going back for those beef fat fried French fries as well. Sadly we didn't have enough room for dessert. Def will have to try the beignets next time! Service was pretty great. Did have to wait a long while for some lemon slices for our oyster appetizer. They were busy. Had a nice little chat with our server about how they're partners with "The Table" and how the Table closes down and the new restaurant going in there is being opened by an amazing chef. our dining experience at corbeau went above & beyond our expectations!! we used to live in Seattle, so getting to walk to a restaurant of this quality so close to our home felt very reminiscent of that-- what a treat! Food, drinks, service, & atmosphere were all incredible. Everything was so fresh and the garlic aioli is insane (in a good way!) I think our only critiques were that the bread was a bit dry & we'd prefer the fries a bit crispier (but they're so flavorful I didn't really care too much). Loved the atmosphere and the service. Drinks were good too and so was the salad we ordered. So where did it go wrong? As a main we both ordered the steak frites. I wanted to love it and it did taste good BUT the meat was soooo chewy and the fries were so hard. It wasn't cheap, the meat should have been tender and the fries crisp. I've been there 3 times and haven't been that impressed for the costs. I love steak and frites but unfortunately the steak wasn't great and was a bit chewy but liked the fries. Their burger is probably the best thing I've tasted there but I'm not normally going to a place like this to eat burgers. Service wasn't bad and atmosphere is so-so. I'm glad they are trying, but not a place I'll probably comeback to. Also, maybe not post your political beliefs on social media when trying to promote your restaurant??? We were very happy to see Corbeau in Tacoma. I think the restaurant will be a great addition to the area. The food is pretty good for the most part. There are some things that can be improved, but they're off to a good start. The foods we had were a little heavy on the fatty side (especially with the use of animal fats). You don't expect to get so much fat in a salad, for example. The service was a little slow, and surprisingly, they did not offer coffee or tea, claiming they had no space for these machines (which barely makes sense for coffee or espresso but certainly not for tea). Because we were with friends we didn't scrutinize the bill, but afterwards realized that they added a tip already without letting us know, so we ended up double-tipping. I think this is a bad practice, but if restaurants do this they should mention it when presenting the bill. I did write to the owner of the restaurant about this but never heard back. We'll try this again and hope that they improve some things. Getting a new restaurant off the ground is no small feat, so I'm hopeful for the future. read more

Corbeau - 3.5/5 Stars I went here with my partner last night to celebrate our anniversary - we were under the impression the minds from The Table on 6th were involved with Corbeau and excited to try it out since we miss The Table however corbeau fell short in terms of food. We ordered clams, duck breast, and cheese for our appetizer and while it tasted nice the duck breast was a little disappointing compared to other portion sizes at other fine dining restaurants. for our entrees we got the clam frites which were delicious and the pork dish from the grand plates. the pork was extremely dry on one side which was very disappointing considering we loved the clam frites. I will add that the service was amazing, our waitress was extremely kind, helpful and fun. The ambience was nice but the decor felt a little disjointed and overall stuffy. I would return to try it again but for the price I was expecting more, especially with that dry pork. read more

I mean, as someone who lives in the neighborhood and often laments the lack of decent restaurants in Proctor, we all wanted this place to be amazing. But it's just okay. Service is very slow (took a full hour from when we ordered for our main dish to show up) and although the food was pretty good, there was nothing that blew us away or even tasted particularly special. One odd thing we noticed was that the French onion soup tasted as though it had miso paste in it. I love miso soup and I love french onion soup, but the combination didn't work for us. They talk up their French fries a lot on the menu but the ones we got were just above room temperature and without much flavor, except for the aioli they came with which was very good. We got a chicken dish that was well cooked with a crispy skin but unambitious and without an interesting flavor profile or tasty accompaniments on the plate. Just some convtional mashed potatoes. We did like the cocktails, and we had a decent salad, but again, nothing to write home about. Seems like there's a lot of potential here, but they need to work out the kinks with the service and perhaps push themselves a little to experiment with contemporary flavor combinations, the way Field Bar on 6th does. Still probably the best restaurant in Proctor at the moment though! read more

Such a fun new spot in Proctor! Came for dinner and drinks knowing it might take a bit to get a table but we were able to sit at the bar immediately! I recommend making a reservation if you have a larger group. It is definitely on the fancier side but all the food looked amazing and they have a lot of unique dishes! We got the gnocchi appetizer and burger with fries. The gnocchi was different than anything I've ever had--melts in your mouth and had pistachios and pickled onions on top! The burger was definitely the star of the show and the fries were also amazing. They have tons of fun cocktails too (and strong) that are presented beautifully! This is a great spot for a girls night or a date night and is in the cutest area! read more

Have been super excited to try this place- will give it one more shot. Service was subpar. Throughout our dinner several our drinks were forgotten several times. Server did not have a rhythm in checking on tables. Our appetizers came before several drinks. Things were just not smooth. The food was a 3.5/ 5- saving grace was the roast chicken. Hopefully they were just having an off night. Will try one more time with my fingers crossed. read more

A welcome addition to Tacoma! Finally an excellent, high-end restaurant in the North End! Let's just hope it survives. My wife and I had a wonderful meal at Corbeau. Excellent cocktails, especially the daiquiri, excellent choices of French wine by the glass (more on this later), and a very nice bread service. I had the steak frites, wife had the chicken. Both were outstanding. Steak had a nice crust and was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Beef tallow fries were delish! But the chicken might have been even better. A fantastic bird, with great jus. Yum! Ended things with a spectacular crème brulee. It came in a nice shallow wide dish, with more burnt sugar than most. Fantastic! Only two minor nitpicks: 1) the place is very loud. We noticed the volume level as soon as we walked in and commented on it to the host (who turned out to be the owner). He agreed and noted that they were in the process of adding acoustic tiles to the ceiling (several were up but they had clearly just started) so this issue should be resolved soon. 2) the Syrah I ordered was really good but was served too warm. The French joke that Americans drink their white wine too cold and their red too warm; this glass was definitely too warm. We commented to the sommelier who appreciated the suggestion and noted that they had only been open for 3 weeks and were still finding and working out the kinks. Fair enough. Neither issue impacted the evening. I expect in a few weeks the place will be (more quietly) humming! read more

Exceptionally noisy; impossible to have a decent conversation. Steak frites was tasty but nothing like you get in France. Sablefish was cooked to perfection -- KUDOS. Fromage plate had disappointing cheese selection; the marmalade on the side was terrific, however. The wine glass pour was decidedly stingy, especially considering it cost almost the price of the entire bottle at retail. The service was fine. We do not plan on going back. read more

My first time there and I was very disappointed. I don't normally provide reviews, but there were too many misses not to provide one. I live close so was excited to try it out. We were seated next to the check in station, which was disruptive every time someone came in or a server went to ask a question. There was no barrier to isolate the conversations. It was also cold every time the door opened. I grew up in Minnesota and have been to France several times, so was confident ordering the steak frites. The frites were great, but the steak was so tough I couldn't even chew it (ordered medium). I am not exaggerating. It would not break down--was more like chewing a big piece of gum than a steak. I sent it back and just got French Onion Soup instead. This was another big miss. There was so much bread in it that it was more like a strew consistency than any French Onion I have ever had. Needless to say, for our first experience there, it will be our last. read more

Great cocktails. There was one drink we didn't enjoy (not poorly made, just not to our taste) and the server noticed and happily replaced it with something else without being asked. Be aware: All checks get a 20% service charge in lieu of tips (I love this but some may not.). When packed (as it was the Friday night we went) interior is loud for my middle aged ears.
