I bought my wedding cake from here and while people told me it was a pretty cake, I saw a lot of problems with it. I saw all the beautiful pictures of other peoples' wedding cakes so thought it would be ok since I wanted something very simple. I asked for a seriously easy fondant cake with three layers in three different colors. Top layer was just plain gold, middle was a quilted white with gold beads, and bottom layer was just plain red. They didn't have to do any serious decorations, but seemed to mess it up still. The cake layers were crooked, the fondant was folding in areas and not perfectly smooth. The quilted pattern was applied with a stencil/stamp but you could see where they messed up As for the filling, while they were accomodating on the flavors we asked (peach and strawberry in whipped cream), the flavor was waaaaay sweeter than what they gave us at the tasting. And the cake was kind of dry which was really disappointing since I really liked the one they gave us at the cake tasting. For a place that specializes in special occasion cakes, I'm surprised how they could mess up something so simple. The only really good part about this bakery is the price. I don't think you can beat the price anywhere, even at other Asian bakeries they were going to charge me double for fondant. So there's that. It's good if you're on a budget. read more

We got our wedding cake at Amor Bakery few weeks ago. I couldn't wait long to write this review for them. Here are the specs of our cake: 3 tier square white fondant cake with chocolate floral piping design There are a lot of flavor to choose from: chocolate, tiramisu, mango moose, valet, Napoleon, strawberry you name it. We got Tiramisu, mango moose and velvet flavors for 125 guests. The total cost is ONLY $250!! (which included delivery charge from rosemead to Malibu!!) How good is the cake? My fiance (now my wife) and I went for the cake tasting. We had one slice of each flavor. While my wife was talking to the owner, I was able to finish eating all the pieces in less than a minute!! That tells you how good they taste. Tiramisu is our favorite. We set it as the bottom layer and all the guests love it! Tommy (the owner) is SUPER nice. All I did was providing him few pictures, and told him the design that I wanted and he was able to generate it! I went there so far advance to reserve it worrying that they require a lot of time for booking. But it turns out I was only required to pay the full amount few days before the wedding and it's all set. One little tip is we have a LOT of cake left over (almost half a cake). It probably because our guests were stuffed up from the wedding buffet. If I have to order again, I would probably go a little under the actual guest count. Helped my bro and sis in law pick up their kids birthday cakes. They had called the night before to ask if I could pick it up at 9am and they said sure. I got there and they could only find the two little cakes (they ordered a Care Bears themed two tiered cake with two mini cakes.) She wrote happy birthday on the two mini cakes and she taped it up without even showing me and when I asked to see it, she seemed surprised. She wrote one of my nieces' name really ugly and her name oozed onto the side of the cake. I told her that it didn't look good and asked if she could fix it. The fixed job looked horrible. She finally found the other cake and said that my sis hadn't paid for the small cakes, so I called her and they talked and she randomly decided it was fine. She put the cake on the counter - no cover or anything - two tiered. I asked if she could at least help me put it in my car and they did. Horrible service and the cake looked nothing like it was supposed to. It was an ugly rainbow and they just put flowers on it. The tiramisu and strawberry tasted good, but the mango was not good. LIFE SAVER! I normally BUY birthday cakes at Sunny Bakery because they have very good Durian Cake for $15 bucks. Except for that one Wednesday morning which happens to be my Boyfriends' Birthday and Sunny Bakery was CLOSED on Wednesdays. I was in a complete panic, not knowing where else to go and I didn't exactly have a back-up plan. So I pulled out my handy-dandy phone and searched on Yelp for the next best thing! I called all over the place, but many of the shop did not have Durian cake and those that Do were too costly. Finally I called Amor Bakery and they were my Savior! It took only 30minutes for a freshly made 6'' durian cake which cost $17.50. My BOyfriend said they used actual chunks of fresh durian in their cakes instead of just an overload of cream with small amount of durian. I couldn't thank them enough! read more

Oh the smell of sweet breads and how my mouth waters. This place makes cakes for all occasions, sweet breads and sweet breads with meat, as well as individual sweet treats. Some of my favorite treats are: -Milky Pineapple Bun -Hot dog sweet bread with cheese -Custard sweet bread Although simple, they're so tasty. There's something with this bread that makes it addicting and coming back for more. -The hot dog with the cheese, it's simple to make, but it's cutely made in quarters with little hot dog chunks. -The milk bun has that milky taste, which is also sweet. It keeps looking different each time I purchase it, but my most favorite form is when it comes with this sugary top (kind of like a Mexican bun). - The custard isn't overly sweet and it's light and creamy. It comes topped with some shredded coconut. The only thing is that each time I come here, the prices keep increasing. I remember that they used to be as low as .50 or .60, now for my precious, fluffy, and delicious milk bun, it costs $1.15. As the price increases, I only purchase when the need is dire. read more

I live in eau claire,wi and there's a little Asian store here that sells this shops bakery items. I picked one of their custard buns that looked pretty yummy. I just took a bite and it tasted like bleach and it reeks of bleach as well. The ingredients say it has bleached flour in it but I don't think that could possibly cause this intense flavor. I'm torn when reviewing this place because their strawberry filled cakes topped with mango are the best I've found out of any other Asian bakery so far, but the older lady who works there (owner?) is a real bitch. If you ask her a question that she maybe doesn't understand (due to her limited English?) she WILL become irate and yell at you. Her: When you want pick up cake? Me: How soon can you make it? If it's quick enough where I can wait then I'll hang around the plaza (and save myself a return trip) but if it takes a couple of hours I can come pick it up tomorrow or the next day. Me trying to break it down simpler for her: So you can have it as soon as today? That's great! How soon today can you have it ready today? Like an hour? Thirty minutes? Immediately, already made in the back? Her: you come back two hours! The friend I've come with notifies me we have an appointment today and can't hang around the sgv for two hours so, even though I'm pretty sure I'm close to getting my eye stabbed out at this point by the pen she is holding, I let the baker know I will come back Thursday at one o'clock to pick up the cake. Parking in this plaza is always a nightmare. The parking lot for this particular place is shared with a US post office, a supper market, a bank, Pho Pasteur, some other restaurant, two liquor stores, a clothing store, Sunday Cafe and a little booth out in the middle of the parking lot where some guy makes a copy of your keys for you... Like i said, nightmare. Service. Ladies here never greet you. You are pretty much on your own up to the point where you stand infront of the cash register to pay. They never smile and always seem tired. With all the sugar they work with you'd think they'd try to run a sugar rush once in a while or something. Pastries aside from one bun that has creme filling they are all pretty icky. Usually dry or two sweet and some how taste..not right. The buns i'm talking about tho..they sell pretty well so they always have fresh and new ones. They have cakes there which i never bother with. They always look like they've been there for a while...and the slices of cake they sell..oh good..the fruit looks soooooo soooo soooooooooooo SOOOOOOOOOO old on them. Like seriously change them or something..you are doing yourself a disservice by having those things still on display :/ The one bun is definitively not worth the parking horrors and the unwelcoming ladies. NOTE: this review is based solely on the pineapple bread this is THE place to get pineapple bread I've tried a lot of different pineapple breads from a lot of odifferent asian bakeries, and none of them come close to the pineapple bread at Amor Bakery, NOT EVEN CLOSE! the pineapple bread here has a fluffy crust and is crispiest when freshly made, but even when it's become softer the pineapple bread here is still far superior to the others one minus is that the pineapple bread here is more expensive than the ones at other bakeries ($1 compared to around 85 cents), but it is totally worth the extra 15 cents they have both the individual pineapple buns here, as well as the pineapple bread loaf, both of which I highly recommend if you're a fan of those asian pineapple breads, this is the place to get it! read more

First off, I have to mention that the only thing I ever get here is tiramisu, which is absolutely delicious. Though the presentation could be neater and prettier, especially when it comes to cakes. But I honestly don't mind because the moist texture of the expresso-soaked cake is to die for. It's delicately sweet and the cream is fluffy and an honest joy for your taste buds to soak. I ordered a two-tier mint green (wifey's favorite color) ombré cake with one tier strawberry filling and the other mango -- there was just the perfect amount of fruit without it being too overbearing. This is my first time writing a review for a business, but the service I experienced today was worthy of ZERO STARS and I created an account to notify others of my negative experience. In short, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I came in and had ordered a COFFEE flavored cake for my son's birthday from the older woman behind the counter. She said the price was $30 (I have ordered cakes from Amor for years and they've all been around $18). I commented on the pricing, as it's nearly double what it usually is, and the cashier said things are getting more expensive. I understand inflation and went ahead and paid the $30. I requested a receipt and she refused to give me one, stating she would remember me. However, I insisted on getting a receipt and was given one after several insistences. I had informed her that I would go eat Pho at the restaurant next door and come back later to pick up the cake (approx 1 hour later). Upon arriving to pick-up my cake, the cashier accused me of having already picked up my cake. I had told her I did not pick it up yet and offered to show my receipt. However, she continued accusing me of having already picked up my cake and then refused to see the receipt. She then proceeded to accuse me of not giving her my receipt upon picking it up and then stating I belonged to another party who already picked up their cake (two women previously). When I told her that I had come in alone ordering a COFFEE cake and request she check the fridge behind the counter, she refused to check and accused me again of having already picked up a STRAWBERRY cake. This conversation proceeded for a few minutes of back and forth accusations by her, while I insisted she just check the fridge for my cake. Finally, she checked the fridge and asked what I had ordered to be written ("Happy Birthday ___Son's Name____"). Once I confirmed that was my cake, she did not apologize to me for her rude accusations. She made the excuse that she confused me with another woman, handed me my cake, and then went into the back. I understand that accidents happen and I don't mind her confusing me for another guest, but she was extremely rude and reluctant to check the fridge for my cake. Her repeated accusations were uncalled for and I felt disrespected as a customer and will NEVER be returning. read more

A Chinese bakery that offers birthday cakes, small cakes, Chinese breads, buns, and pastries. I wouldn't recommend this bakery for birthday cakes though. The texture of the cake isn't as fine as cakes from other Chinese bakeries (the cakes here are a bit crumbly) and the cakes look a little...messy. I don't think the bakers here seem to have that much experience in baking and decorating cakes, but then again maybe years of experience will result in better cakes. Delicious and beautiful mango cake that I've ever had. I live in OC and drove an hour just to pick up a mango cake for a party. Crazy ha! I knew what I wanted. I wanted a mango cake from this place. LOL! It was a bee theme birthday party and I wanted a yellow cake to match the theme. I received a lot of compliments on how delicious and moist the cake was. The mango was fresh and the cake was not sweet like American cakes. Everyone that I knew has never seen a mango cake that was beautiful like this. They wanted the name of this place. When I picked it up cake was smashed on the side and pieces of the mango on top of the cake had already fallen to the side of the box. They made it seem like as if nothing was wrong and failed to apologize for selling a less than perfect cake. The cake itself was horrible. I've ordered Napoleon cakes before and this was NO Napoleon cake. They had 3 inches of the sponge cake on top and two layers of the flaky crust at the bottom of the cake. This construction caused the cake to slide after cutting into it. It was just plain laziness. Poor construction. After cutting into the cake there was no custard as I had requested.
