The new concept is prix fixe dinners on the heated, covered patio, and à la carte inside for walk-ins. I ordered from the à la carte menu and it was awesome. So easy. So delicious. My table ordered the cascatelli pasta, smoky glazed tempeh, coriander & arborio crusted oyster mushroom, and for dessert the summer sundae and chocolate tart. We were sharing so I got a taste of everything. Just amazing. It tastes just as good as before but feels much more approachable and affordable with the new concept. And you can still get the fine dining experience if you want it. I can't wait to go back on a Tuesday to try the pizza. I've heard it described as the best vegan pizza in the Bay Area by people who know what good pizza is, and I can't wait to try it. All food is vegan, and almost everything is gluten free.

You can only order the fixed menu on the patio, and the à La carte menu inside. But it doesn't say that anywhere. This is one of those places that takes a paragraph to describe a dish, but you still won't know what you're getting unless you're the chef because of the descriptions and names that they call things. We decided to stay inside and go à la carte. My family each got the veggie burger, and I went with the pasta. They seemed to like their burgers. I like my food to be a bit more straightforward, so I thought the pasta would be a safe bet. It came with a smear of pesto on the side of the dish which, although looks fancy, made the dish very impractical. Mixed in with the pasta was some arugula and cooked cherry tomatoes which they describe as a confit, but they're not. Just cooked tomatoes. The shape of the pasta was kind of difficult because it splits length wise and makes it impossible to stab with a fork, which you have to do in order to get some of the pesto on it. Over all, it was good, but I think I'd prefer a different shape of pasta and have the pesto on it instead of on the side. One thing that kind of bothered me was that my pasta came with no sides of any kind. And the portion was "fancy" so it wasn't generous. But it was the same price as the burger, which was piled so high that you literally can't fit it into your mouth, and they came with a generous side of veggies. So my family took half of their burger and all their sides home after only eating half each, and I finished my pasta and had room for more. For the same price. So I'd say the pasta is not a good value. Service wise, we had to ask for them to bring drinks that we ordered, even though they weren't busy. The ambiance was ok. Music not too loud, so we were able to talk to each other. I definitely wouldn't have chosen to come here but I guess people like places like this. I just like to know what's going on my food without needing an encyclopedia and a decoder ring.

The cashier was very patient with explaining on how I can order my food since you can customize your salads there. She also told me the differences between the salads that are on the menu. They definitely do give you a lot of food so the price makes sense. I got a chicken salad along with a decaf cappuccino. Love that they have decaf cappuccinos, I might just become a regular just for that option. The food was delicious, very filling. The spot gave very hole in the wall type of vibes but seems like they have plenty of space so people can dine in.

I get a little crazy choosing at restaurants, worrying about if I should have gotten something else. It's just one choice - medium or large. Here you know you'll get something good and you'll get 5 different things. (I like the variety) 1. a surprisingly delicious bean soup 2. a small salad with a tasty dressing (often slightly sweet dressing) 3. greens with a sauce (like mushroom or beet sauce). 4. brown rice. 5. cooked root vegetables that are really deliciously seasoned (they don't shy away from the salts and flavorings on the vegetables.) The last time I was there it was potatoes & sweet potatoes & kombucha squash, but another time it was carrots and beets and parsnips, I think. AND - if you want to you can order a lime pie or a coconut pie or a chocolate pie! I haven't had the chocolate yet, but the lime pie and the coconut are really rich and delicious, and you kind of feel like you deserve it after eating all this healthy food (even if the healthy food was delicious!). It's a win- win, good for you and tastes good!

I convinced Jamie this was a healthy alternative to the more gluttonous alternatives on Telegraph. I'm no stranger to Shangri-La Vegan because I have patronized the Emeryville and Albany locations several times before. I was already familiar with the traditional Tibetan monastery kitchen approach they take with their whiteboard menu. They prepare savory pots of macrobiotic vegan food from which they serve lunch plates in full and moderate sizes. We both went for the $16.95 Full Plate. The meal started with a hearty bowl of Kidney Bean Veggie Soup (Photo 10). Simple but satisfying. The plate was filled with the expected goodness - Short Grain Brown Rice; a Sauté of Carrots, Daikon, Beets, Rutabaga & Onion; Yellow Split Peas with Onion, Garlic & Ginger; a Mixed Salad of Beets with Agave Dressing: and my favorite, Collard Greens with Mushroom, Leek & Onion Sauce (Photo 9). As they've served variations of the plate ingredients for years, it came as no surprise that the flavors would be complementary and the net result quite satisfying. Plus, there is no cell reception on the course so there's no way to call them. The service has gotten poor. The workers will peek over your shoulder while you tip, 18%, 20%, 22% and so on for a packaged item. Also, I had a voucher that I won from a promotion, and they took it and it never got used.

We had been to Tarocco for lunch and figured we would ask them for a quote, too. My daughter warned me that the owner is trying to be an "influencer" on Instagram and posts photos of herself in crop Tops so I should beware, but that's fine by me. We called to get a quote and had a discussion. After we gave the owner all of our information, she told us she wouldn't give us a quote unless we came in person (?!) Which is weird because this isn't how restaurants work. Typically for events restaurants will give you a quote via phone or email for the sake of convenience. We had gotten 3 quotes already from other restaurants via phone. Making us drive 45 mins just to get a quote is a total waste of time. Especially if we can't afford it. So my daughter called again, left a VM explaining we couldn't come in person due to time constraints, and again asked for a quote. No reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. Finally we got a voicemail from the owner saying that she didn't like my daughter's attitude ?!!! Apparently you're not allowed to ask this restaurant how much they charge for events unless you're face to face. This lady has absolutely no idea how to run a restaurant. We took our business elsewhere and recommend that you do, too.
