When we first rolled into the parking lot, the wife said we have eaten here before???....I trolled thru my reviews and it seams we have....for breakfast tacos passing thru....many moons ago....Service was OK...Standards hit the table first....Chips, Salsa and Queso....Queso was saved by the salsa...the first couple of chips were a bit chewy, but the rest were ok. Wife stuck to her guns with beef enchiladas, double rice with a standard chili gravy. Mine were the Carnitas Enchiladas...and it came with a Salsa Verde Sauce....a first for me, and was actually pretty good....The Charro beans were good as well....Over all a good visit, but would like to compare others in town if we pass thru again. read more

The sign says "Authentic Mexican Food" that could not be farther from the truth. I honestly have never had this bad of an experience with Mexican food. I got the Mexican Plate. They were out of a lot of what our table ordered, the chicken, tamale and rice was bland, didn't have any flavor. The queso isn't queso, it's just a block of velveeta. Over time, it started to gel up and looked like snot. It grossed me out and I couldn't finish my plate. The floor was sticky. On top of all of that, the bill was outrageous for what you get. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you like super overpriced bland Tex Mex. read more

Man do they ever make great burgers! Ground beef is quality and makes a large size patty. Plus they toast the bun! I had all the veggies, they were fresh. Topped it off with fresh onion rings - delicious and not greasy. Service is always great here. Friendly staff, good at checking in on guests. They serve all food all day. I got cheese enchiladas for breakfast they were super yummy. Honey got breakfast and loved it. Our waiter was a little scattered and brought honey instead of syrup so that wasn't great. My GD got kids enchilada and instead of cheese it was chicken. But we made it work. Very disappointed in several factors of this restaurant. While the restaurant is practicing social distancing and mask wearing, all the waitresses were wearing soiled attire with several stains and were badly groomed. The waitresses were cleaning tables with a rag bucket instead of using a more hygienic approach. The beef meat used for chalupas and nachos was abhorrent. It had no flavor besides tasting old, and was drenched in an odd orange sauce. Neither I nor the other people in my party that had this meat on their entree ate this. The waitress seemed oblivious to the obvious issue with the quality of the food, I did not send anything back because I didn't think anything else would be good. Will not be returning. read more

Going to have to downgrade a bit. I stopped by again with my daughter as we traveled across Texas. The experience wasn't as good as the first time. The wait staff were new, like brand new not sure of themselves or what to do type brand new. I don't fault them for being new, but they should have a basic grasp of what is on the menu. This one didn't. She was lost. The coffee was terrible. It is that instant liquid coffee mixture, Douy Egbert's or something like that. Not good at all. The salsa was not the same salsa as the first visit. Rather bland to be honest. A jar of Pace Picante sauce has more flavor. I ordered the same meal as last time and it just wasn't as good. We sat at one table, it rocked really bad, like slop the coffee out of the cup bad. So we moved to two other tables that were open, all rocked terribly. Need to be fixed. read more

Pass by this restaurant everytime I make the trip from Belton back to Houston and finally decided to give it a try. Needless to say, I do not plan on returning. The food is NOT very appetizing and they use a microwave to heat up majority of it. I love supporting small businesses but this one has recieved all the support it will get from me. Cannot give this place even one star. Had an issue with take-out and called back with problems. (Wrong order, fajitas so tough you couldn't eat them) Told to see manager next time we were in. Small town TexMex. I love tacos and fajitas. I ordered the combo fajitas for two. They were pretty good, chicken was from the breast cut of meat. Beef was good too. I thought the guac could use a little more flavor (cumin, jalapeño, salt and lime perhaps). Salsa and pico de gallo were not spicy enough for me, but had good flavor. Our waitress was a little short with me when I asked if we got sausa with the chips when she brought the drinks. She said "I was getting your drinks" instead of "I will bring you some." After she dropped off our sausa, she sent a young man over to take our order and he wrote detailed info down. But what we got was not at all what we ordered. Husband ordered fajitas and shrimp for one and I ordered the lunch chicken chimichanga. Husband got only shrimp and I got a chorizo and bean chimichanga! So we asked where the fajitas and quacamole were. He brought them but half of the quacamole was turning black, and the fajitas were cold. I thought I had gotten hamburger meat in the chimichanga so at first I said don't worry, I will just eat it. But then it turned out to be chorizo, I can't eat that so I took it back and finally got what I orderd. I can see getting one order wrong, but both orders! After my husband paid, he said thank you and the cashier never said a word. And I'm pretty sure we were over chared! We will NEVER EVER eat there again. Very unhappy customer. read more

I'm pretty sure this is the place I ate at on the drive down to College Station recently. The sign on the door said Amigos Y Familia. It was outstanding. This appears to be a family run place. I know they make all of their ingredients fresh in the restaurant. No mass produced junk here. Super authentic and super tasty. There are a couple of other Mexican places along the road in Hearne, but this one had the busiest parking lot and the food to back it up. Definitely worth a stop! read more

Great waitress, tortillas are homemade and are absolutely delicious. I got the carne guisada, which I would describe as Mexican stew meat with a gravy style sauce, cooked with some peppers and tomatoes, served with beans and rice. No complaints because the tortillas were awesome, and sauce was thick enough to stick to tortilla. I saw a previous comment about the salsa being bad, but I really enjoyed it. This has got to have been the poorest example of "Authentic Mexican Restaurant" that I have ever seen. First of all you have to seat yourself which in my opinion is ok if its a small taco shop or a burger joint, but a restaurant?? Where is the upstanding customer service? Anyhow, once I found a table the waitress came and took my drink order then brought me some chips and salsa which wasnt great but tolerable. I looked over the menu and decided on combo fajitas which was 10.99 but I wanted shrimp too and that took it up to 18.99 IKR!! When the meal came out the set up looked like it had been prepared the previous day. The guacamole was already blackening as if it has been exposed for quite some time(Use Lime Juice Guys!!) The charro beans were horrible!! No authentic flavors there and the rice wasnt much better. The rice tasted so bland I couldnt finish it. I had to poor the salsa for my chips into my charro beans to make them more tolerable. 4 Shrimp!! Only 4 Shrimp!! A mark-up of 8 dollars and all I get are 4 medium sized shrimp? Smh... The fajita chicken was so dry and lacking flavor and the beef fajita wasn't any better. I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt but I was severely disappointed. Lastly, the tortillas were a joke. Not only did they not have flavor it wasnt but 4-5 minutes of unwrapping the foil that they hardened on me. Had to finish my fajitas with my fork. Update on this little gem: Hubby and I had dinner at this place last evening. The food was excellent and the service friendly without being intrusive. Hubs had Carne Guisada and I had a Chalupa plate, both delicious and filling. We both had to bring food home! The décor in this family style restaurant is charming and one area (for families with small children) has a TV that was playing children's programs. My only complaint was that the salas was too hot for me, but I'm a "wimp!" read more

Lots of guys I work with like this place. So gave it a try. My first experience got a torta not bad it was a good size and tasted good. The price wasn't bad for hearne. My second visit I got 1 taco she charged me $3.65. I figure it must be a big taco like lupitas in kirby. Nope she came out with a small brown bag. Just a regular sized taco. Maybe she over charged me cause I interrupted her conversation with the other girls to take my order, plus she was about to get off. Either way I learned my lesson to not buy tacos here. So I guess it's all about what you order and when. The food is ok, but it's hearne so they got you by the short hairs not much in choices. The food was horrible. Very salty. We ordered the chicken fried chicken & chimichanga. The fried chicken was small very tasteless. The chimichanga had chili on it which made it salty the chicken fajita was salty. The rice very salty. We could not finish the food and the price was not worth it at all. I was in Franklin on business. I decided to drive over to Hearne for dinner. After having struck out at the two barbecue joints in town, I ended up here. Since it was my first time, I ordered the standard Mexican plate. The enchilada, taco, and tamale were pretty good as was the rice. They do not have a full bar but they do have bottled beer including some Mexican selections. The chips and hot sauce were very good, almost as good as I could get where I live in Dallas. read more

OMG Hearne if this is your #2 restaurant on trip advisor I am so sorry. I will start with the positive-the salsa. It was spicy and pretty much the only thing that had flavor. On to the negatives. The food was the most bland Mexican I had ever had! I had to put the salsa on everything. The service was also terrible. 3 tables that arrived after us got their food before us. The waitress brought out the adult food a good 10 minutes before the kids food (who does that?!) and ALL the food was either cold or luke warm. Also what waitress doesn't know what beer is available? We were visiting for a swim meet in college station. If we ever are in this area again and are hungry will DEFINITELY drive past this place. Such a disappointment. read more
