hot and sour soup, baked salmon filet, imitation crab in tin foil, warm imitation cheesy lobster, stuffed shrimp
Elizabeth Betsy B.

First time for us in the new location. On a Sunday afternoon. At first I thought it was too crowded and because a couple of us have mobility issues it looked like we would be seated a very long way (for us) from the buffet. But having asked to be closer to the buffet, we were led to the buffet and-- Lo! -- a doorway opposite the buffet opened into a large banquet room. Perfect for people with several children, large groups, folks with mobility challenges. The room was nearly empty, though filled nicely during our visit. Ebb and flow. Fortunately for us, by the time we chose our first plates and returned to the table, the group that included about 7 noisy children right behind us had left. Food was hot enough or cold enough and always plenty enough. Table service was quick and efficient. When large groups left, staff was right there cleaning up-- floors, tables, chairs. Staff seemed very pleasant and eager to be helpful. I usually get peel and eat shrimp at Chinese buffets, not sure why I didn't except that there were so many other choices. The only shrimp I got was that one stuffed shrimp, breading packed around a whole shrimp. The baked salmon was very good, overcooked only around the edges, otherwise perfect. There was also baked cod available. The hot and sour soup was excellent... that is my usual must-have for a good Chinese restaurant. It was hot, it was sour, and it was in broth, not gravy. I have never eaten french fries at a Chinese buffet so I don't know what possessed me, but they were quite good. If I hadn't wanted to try the lo mein, I would have gotten more fries. The green beans, as much a Chinese buffet staple as 5 ways to serve broccoli, were tops... tender enough and crisp enough. The only thing I ate that I thought was too salty was the breading on the stuffed shrimp. And of the foods I'd sampled, my only other suggestion would be less mayo on the broccoli salad. So all that and why did I give only 4 stars? Answer: the price. It was Sunday, so one price all day. And there were crab legs... and plenty of them. But if you're not having crab legs (and none of us did) then $20 (19.99) is rather much for Chinese buffet. I would go again to the Amherst Buffet, but for lunch on a weekday. I hope soon I can compare the experiences.

Mostly seafood options, and a California roll

Amazing buffet, you are at a place where there are options, such as, seafood, normal meat, vegetables and sweets. The service was okay, they got you drinks, but there wasn't service when it came down to food (other than picking up your plates for you of course). The place was decorated nicely, the part I found the best was the lighting and clean seating... I would definitely recommend.

All thy food

The food was the best food in the world went for grandpa's b'day and everyone else loved it. Great service everything 10 minutes they asked if we need a refill on our drink but the dessert tastes horrible

This was my first time back since they moved to this new location. I try my best to stay out of AYCE buffets because I tend to approach it like a challenge. How many platefuls can I eat? Am I even getting my money's worth if I don't make it past seconds? I've got to at least make it to thirds or fourths, right? So yeah, mostly I avoid places like this. But not today! The whole reason I came this time was because I have been craving eggrolls but I haven't indulged because I'm on a mission to drop 30 pounds for a $300 pair of Kevlar motorcycle jeans I bought at the end of last riding season. They fit but I don't like the muffin top they give me. So for the last few months I've been being very good and sticking to my calorie goal for the day. I told myself as soon as I hit the half way mark (15 pounds for those of you who can't do math) I'd reward myself and see if I could eat enough eggrolls to turn into one! Well, yesterday I hit the halfway mark to my goal! I was greeted as soon as I entered, I noticed it was very clean, I asked for a table for 1, and I was taken right to a table where server came over and asked what I wanted to drink. She came back with it a moment later and I made my way over to the buffet. The good: The sautéed potatoes were very good. So was the fried zucchini. As was the pepper steak, and the sautéed string beans. The soda was fizzy. The service was quick. The bad: The eggrolls were very hard and dry. I asked my server if more would be coming out soon, she went to go look, and came back to tell me there were a lot out. I told her yes there were but they were very hard and dry. She went to the kitchen, came back out, and a few minutes later a man came out and set a plate with two eggrolls on it on the table next to the servers station. She immediately brought it over to me. They weren't fresh out of the fryer but they were definitely better then the other ones. Warmer for sure and less dried out but still pretty hard and chewy. Oh well. There was too much fish sauce in the chicken and broccoli. It was downright fishy. I couldn't eat it. The dumplings were also too chewy. The bbq pork that was labeled bbq chicken wasn't bad. But it wasn't exactly good either. The fried rice had a weird yellowish color rather than brown like it was premade and frozen out of a bag, which it probably was. But I went to stuff my face, and stuff my face I did. So I'll call it a win. But I probably won't go back.

4 star for food quality and verity, 2 star for ambiance for an AYCE buffet restaurant. They offer a quite good choice of main items in the buffet. The deep fried blue crab and the stuffed mussels are good! The choices for dessert is limited. A renovation and some upgrade can really add few more stars to this place.

Rice with Mushrooms with Spicy Sauce w/Calamari and Kani

On Feb 15th on my cousin's birthday, we went to the Escape Room for his birthday and we had some fun! It was scary but it was fun at the same time, but I will save that for another review! But back to the food, the service was great, and we get to make our own food, and the ones that were shown in the picture are the ones I grabbed is the meal that I had last month, the rice with mushrooms with calamari, kani and some sushi and seaweed! And yes they were very good, although I do think the calamari was a little bit chewy and the red pepper was too spicy for me, but however, it was so good that made me sleepy the entire day! But would I come back again? Yes I would! But I will tone down the red pepper sauce the next time I come back

The food was very hot and fresh! There are lots of things to choose from! They are always filling up as they go along. Such as chicken wings, fries, and pizza for kids or adults. 6 different stations of hot foods to choose from. A variety of desserts and cups of ice cream. The sushi bar was excellent, and the hibachi was just as good! They also have a salad bar and soups. Service was fast and friendly. The ambiance was very clean, bright with lots of seating available. They use smaller dinner plates and this is good because people waste too much! They have assorted drinks to choose from. You can also order take out and build your own box. Below are price charts and pictures.

Stuffed shrimp, bacon wrapped crab, peanut chicken, honey chicken

This has been my go to spot for good Chinese food that's not takeout. Their food is consistently good, the tables are always clean, and the prices are reasonable enough that you can get just one plate(or two, no judgement) and not feel like you have to eat 10 plates to get your money's worth. They also have decent enough sushi(if you're a sushi snob, skip it) and really good made to order hibachi. I'd say that's one of the highlights. There's little ice cream cups for the kids and a pretty extensive salad bar for whoever wants that too. Service is fast and vibe is very casual.

Very disappointing. The General Tso's chicken was not at all crispy and the sauce was thin, light, and nearly identical to the sauce

Ask the Community - Amherst Buffet

Whats difference between Lunch buffet and dinner buffets?

(716)835-9898

Has anyone been lately (4/21/2001)? How are they operating?

They hit the 2nd tower.

Is the buffet open? How are they handling Covid?

All u can eat Crab legs? On what days? How much does it cost?

They don't always put the same things out everyday, but most days yes. So, you can probably find crab legs everyday, more so after lunchtime ,which ends at 3:30pm. Dinner & weekend prices are $12.99 per person.

How much is it?

$16 for adults for dinner and on weekends. I only go for dinners. It's a bit on the high side but they such a huge selection that it's understandable.

Are the restrooms handicap accessible?

Yes.

Do they have regular Chinese food too.. also Is the sushi fresh and taste good?

Yes they do, and In my experience the sushi has always been quite fresh

Does this buffet serve crab legs during lunch hours on weekdays?

Probably not. It's available on weekends lunch, but not on weekdays!

The cashier was a little gruff, but the woman running back and forth between the kitchen and the front had a better business sense about keeping customers happy. She didn't want me to wait long, so I think she rushed the kitchen a little bit, which I appreciated, but also may have led to some of the demerits on the food I mention below. I was happy to see one dish I ordered, the pig intestine with fish, on their picture board above the cash registers. That gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing and it was the best dish by far out of the three I ordered. The intestine was fresh and flavorful, the spice level was high, but also not too salty. It was a lot of food. Only drawback here was the fish (tilapia?) seemed to be heavy on the breading. The other two dishes were disappointing. Penang curry with pork had good vegetables, but the sauce had too little flavor since they went too heavy on the coconut milk. The pork seemed like chicken, not pork. Way too soft and flavorless. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun had good noodles and veggies. But the curry powder was not blended in. Eating it, I could still feel it in powder form. It was also far too oily. Overall, I think they had a lot of options but next time I'd steer more towards classic Chinese, since that seems to be what they do well. I hope next time the flavors will be stronger and blended better (i.e. powders actually stirred in). I'm willing to give them another chance, since they do have a lot of dishes I like. Last note: the online ordering service does not indicate that dishes come with rice. I thought they would have rice by default, but then when I added the penang curry to my cart, it asked whether I wanted rice or noodles or something else. So that made me think I had to order rice separately, which meant I had twice as much rice as I needed. It also said "quart of white rice" was sold out, but "pint of white rice" was not, yet the rice that came with my meal came in a quart container.

I was seated and immediately served complimentary tea, and fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce. I ordered the Kung Pao lunch special which comes with a choice of egg roll or soup, and white or vegetable friend rice. I chose the wonton soup and fried rice, and I ordered an egg roll as well. The egg roll came out quickly, and the lunch special was served right when I finished that. The food was good and the dish was spicy (Kung Pao is supposed to be spicy but it never is-- not for me) and the service was polite. When the check came it was accompanied by a plate with two slices of orange and a fortune cookie. The only thing I didn't like about the visit was that there was an advertisement for a big commercial law firm on the back of the fortune slip and the "lucky number" was the phone number. I thought that was tacky. I walked out at 1:15pm. Great, quick lunch.

Nice people, good food, pleasant atmosphere: because I can never decide which is more important,…read morethey are equally important factors when rating a restaurant. Golden Hill has all three. And a lunch menu. Wow! I just gave my receipt another look and the people are nicer than I thought. I thought they were pleasant, friendly, happy we were there, concerned that we would enjoy our visit. The lunch menu offerings were each $10.95 and included eggroll OR soup, and white or vegetable fried rice. Daughter ordered the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus an appetizer order of steamed dumplings. I ordered Eggplant with Pork in Garlic sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus a small bowl of Hot and Sour Soup. The soup on the appetizer menu was $3.95. My receipt shows the server put the soup as my lunch choice and charged $2.95 for the eggroll. She never said a word, didn't point out that I could save a dollar by switching the sides around. So the people are all I thought plus kind and conscientious. Marvelous. I was delighted with everything I ate. The entree was enough for two, so supper came home with me. The eggroll was fresh and crisp and non-greasy, seemed homemade. Excellent. The eggplant was perfectly prepared and cooked, as was the pork. Delicious. The hot and sour soup was easily one of the best I've had, and I'm always looking for a great hot and sour soup. Coming from downtown Buffalo, we'd been in Williamsville because I had an appointment on Essjay Rd. Afterward, we looked for a place to have lunch before shopping. Finding Golden Hill at 4001 Sheridan Dr. in Amherst was pure serendipity. You can bet, though, that I will visit again after next appointment.

The servings are definitely smaller than other places and the quality is not that great. The flavors seemed off. I've had these dishes and soups numerous timed from multiple other Chinese restaurants throughout WNY but this place just had very odd flavors and strange consistency to the food. The Hot and Sour soup was lacking flavor and had snot-like clumps in it. The chicken soup with mei fun noodles tasted bitter, almost spoiled or massive amounts of rice vinegar in it. The triple delight combo container was 85% rice and 15% triple delight (very small serving of the entree). The veggie dish and Happy Family were lackluster in flavor and the containers were not filled all the way (only about 3/4 of the way full). There are seats and about 6 tables inside and plenty of parking in the plaza parking lot. The staff is friendly and have everything ready in the usual 10 to 15 minutes. This place works if you are desperate, don't mind weird flavors or lack of flavor, and enjoy getting less than the container can hold. I couldn't read the white board, but sometimes I would ask her for something off that menu. She would ask a few questions to narrow it down. Yes, it was good. :) They also serve typical American General Tso's, etc. My favorite is their shrimp egg foo young, without the gravy. We moved away, and I can't find a place we like nearly as well.

Sure enough, their menu is legit, filled with many of the recognizable delicacies you won't find at the ordinary Chinese-American joints. Entering the place is odd, they have a weather barrier (those plastic slats) hanging from the door after you open the glass door - very odd placement of them. Inside is rather small and simple, not decorated much, it's truly a carry-out place that provides table service too. Service was decent, far from fancy. I decided to try their cumin beef and an order of scallion pancakes. The cumin beef came out first and though I asked for it to be spicy, it most definitely was very mild. The flavor was a little bland overall and this is typically a dry-wok'd type of stir fry with more oil and less sauce, but mine was slightly saucy and lacking flavor completely. The scallion pancakes looked and tasted decent. Perhaps if I ordered something different I would have enjoyed the food more. I still recommend stopping in if you're seeking authentic Chinese, I'm sure they have some great dishes here.
