If you're looking for fast and friendly service, I would not recommend Ames Ford. My vehicle has been in their possession for 29 days as of today, even though the part needed has been there since last week. The lack of urgency and communication has been extremely frustrating. At one point I spoke with three different people on the same day and got three completely different explanations about my vehicle. That made it very hard to trust what I was being told. I was also told by a former employee that comments were made about me -- including that I didn't look like I could afford the work and that it seemed like I didn't have anything important to do so I could just wait. I work hard for what I have like anyone else, and hearing that was disrespectful and disappointing. After finding out the part had been sitting there for a week, I offered to pick up my vehicle and parts to take them elsewhere. That request was denied because they said they needed to finish the work themselves. Overall, this experience has been irritating, frustrating, and disappointing. I hope they improve their communication and professionalism moving forward. read more

All of that would be excusable if one of the managers, I think his name was Corey, wasn't talking down to half the employees while talking about the gun he has in the building to the other half. I purchased a 2024 Ranger from this outfit in July 2025. Started off as a 5 star rating since this was the closest dealership to me that didn't add on $1K for no trade in and $2K for not financing with them. I wanted to pay cash. I was told it was being sold as new even though it had been a loaner vehicle with ~800 miles on it. I was okay with that as I was also told that the 3yr/36K warranty would start on the day of my purchase. When making the purchase, the dealership even had me sign a document extending the warranty to 42months/42K miles. I never received a copy of that document. Ford's website shows I have the 3yr/36K warranty having started in February of 2025. I bought what was advertised as a "new" truck and only have about 2.5 years of warrant on it. I've tried contacting the dealership numerous times with no response. It's been 2 months now. That dropped the rating down to a 3 star. The other item is that when finalizing the purchase I was told that the dealership was required to handle the licensing, which after research is correct. It took them until the day before my In-transit expired to get me my plates; and since I was from across the state line, they "said" they had to use a 3rd party service which was an additional $349.00 fee. I think, now, that it was a fabricated lie to get more money out of me. In addition, the numbers for licensing don't correspond to my state's pink slip. No idea where they got their numbers at. Fortunately, I did get a Carfax report before I picked the vehicle up. The report shows the truck has 7 miles on it. This dealership wasn't reporting their numbers properly. I may use Carfax to pursue the matter further. read more

Bought my first car from Ames Ford and I had a great experience here. They have a 7-day return policy which not many dealers offer. After buying my car, I found that my A/C wasn't chilling when the car was parked. As it was within the return window, their mechanic took a look and fixed it! They have a good collection of second-hand cars and provide an AutoCheck report as well. They offer free in-home test drive which is amazing. They didn't quote any hidden charges and were very transparent throughout. I recommend Mr. Don Tweedt. He not only explained the process well but followed up after the purchase and still does once every few months to make sure everything is fine. read more

If I could give negative stars I would! I am warning anyone who goes to Ames Ford that they will absolutely screw you over. I purchased a brand new 2022 ford black widow in December and it broke down in February 2023 and they have refused to fix it or take care of me and it's still sits on their lot today September 12.,2023. They did try to give me a lesser truck that was sold to another gentleman that needed to be up for service not once, but twice within four weeks of him purchasing. a total of 5 1/2 weeks in their shop. Meanwhile, I made all the payments on a truck that was broke down and I continue to make payments as they and Ford Motor Company could care less. I was forced to file a lawsuit because they do not care that I have a brand new truck with 2000 miles on it sitting on their lot that has been sitting there since February of this year. They did not care and parked it under a mulberry tree early spring and summer. Where it was completely covered in Bird feces and mulberries. After 45 years of car buying experiences, and the vast majority of them were positive, for the simple fact that I bought from people that I knew personally, were recommended by friends or I simply researched the history of who I was going to trade with. Not wearing masks during this time is just a flat out disregard for human decency and respect. LOVE this dealership! I bought a new vehicle from this dealership a year ago and from the start have had nothing but an awesome experience. The no haggle pricing was great and was lower that other local ford dealers for the same vehicle. They picked up my vehicle from another dealer and had the deal ready to sign quickly with no hassles and they were very up front and honest with every aspect of the sale. Follow up after the sale was great as well. Making sure everything was good and that I was happy with the vehicle. I bought a Hybrid vehicle and they took the time to explain how a hybrid is different from other vehicles and explained different things I could do to get the most out of this vehicle. I now LOVE the Hybrid! The service department is top notch! Easy scheduling online or by phone make it convenient. There is never a long wait to have your vehicle taken care of. I can wait for it to be done or they will take me back to work so that I can pick it up later. Had the serpentine belt come off on my 2006 F-150. Living in town, I had the truck towed there for repairs. Service staff were very polite and cooperative with setting me up with a loaner and getting an update on my truck within a day. However, here's the catch- I was told by the service staff that I had a bad tensioner pulley, and of course needed a serpentine belt replacement. On top of that, I was told I had an oil leak and a hole in the timing chain cover and was quoted for $1800. I then had my truck towed down to a different dealership (the original dealer I bought the vehicle from and have had a good experience with.) This dealership told me that there was NO damage to the timing chain cover and NO oil leak. $433 out the door as opposed to $1800 that Ames Ford quoted me at. Will definitely not be giving business to these crooks again. read more

I was recently in an accident that totaled my car, so i was looking for a newer used one. I had almost bought a car from a Toyota dealer in Cedar Rapids, but the salesman was very rude over the phone when he felt i was not more flexible on the price i was willing to spend. The salesman i met with at Ames Ford was Peter, and he was very friendly and answered any questions i had about the car. I could tell that the several people i met there really enjoyed their jobs and it showed in how they acted. I am very happy with my purchase and will look to them again if i am in need. read more

I live in Des Moines and make the drive because of the reasonable prices and, typically, good service. I've also referred folks here over the last few years, especially to buy tires. But, I'm sad to report that I'm disappointed in my most recent experience. Bill (I think? I forgot to jot down his name) misquoted me over the phone, didn't call me when my vehicle was done and the woman at the cashier desk did not ask me to review the slip before paying. So, when asked, Brian Anderson, the service manager, was not willing to adjust but to offer me free services to which I will not use. He wouldn't come out of his office to talk to me directly, he sent a poor middleman to do the job, who go the brunt of my frustration. I've overlooked a few experiences of questionable work on my car's AC here in the past but I think that I may be sticking with my go-to DSM joint and paying higher costs for tires in the future. read more

I was very bummed to learn the car I had been driving for the past 5 years was going to cost more to fix than what I bought it for, so I went in to buying a new car with a pretty bad attitude. I looked around for a few weeks, mostly online and in ads. I had a purchase agreement written up at another dealer, and was not happy with it at all. Isn't buying a new car supposed to be exciting? The answer to that is yes, and that's just what I got from Ames Ford Lincoln. My dad went in first and was the one who told me to wait on the other car that I had the purchase agreement for. He had met with Adam, and after a lengthy conversation was convinced that I needed to reconsider. Adam was great! He had a wonderful sense of humor, and managed to win both of my parents' approval. He even told us that the day we came back in he wasn't feeling the greatest but he came in anyway because my dad told him we would. I test drove a 2012 Focus, and after running down the specs, I knew I'd be much happier in this car. So we went into the showroom, where we were greeted by another team of salesmen who all were very accommodating and friendly. I ended up purchasing a brand new 2014 Focus because of the great deal I was offered on it. Hans, a sales manager, is who closed our deal and he was phenomenal! We were going to finance through Ford, but the interest rate we had discussed way way lower than what I could get, so instead they discounted the car the same price as the rebate, and we financed through a different bank to get a better rate. They were very straight forward about everything, and happy to accommodate. I never thought I could enjoy a car buying experience as much as I did at Ames Ford Lincoln. read more
