My car door needed a latch replacement, that was done successfully. However my $300 car speaker is busted in the door that was serviced. Me and my dad replaced all speakers in the vehicle after I purchased it, I've had them for years and they worked just fine. The speakers are built to support heavy base and high decibels, my speaker would not sound how it does today if I did not take my vehicle to campus garage. Furthermore, a couple years ago I took my vehicle to campus garage because it was leaking oil. They told me my radiator was busted and needed replacing immediately, not true. Antifreeze is green oil is not green. (The misdiagnosis was confirmed incorrect by the dealership). I should've known to not to take my vehicle there again no matter how much time has passed. But, when you're desperate it calls for desperate measures. I do not recommended campus garage. read more

People of Ames+, rest assured that you have a reliable garage in this place. I have had such irritating experiences with garages over time. Almost makes me wonder how these people stay so organized, even when they clearly face challenges like being understaffed (which they are rarely, and yet still manage to deliver service at the same pace). I've never asked them to do anything more than an oil change or something very minor like that, but I'm confident that if I asked for more (and wish me luck in not needing it soon!) they'd be able to do it with the same efficiency of anything else. I especially appreciate the way they are able to stay timely with appointments. So many garages don't offer anything like that and seem incapable of even conceptualizing how to do it. Knowledgeable, trustworthy friendly service. If your German car is out of warranty, do not waste your money taking it to the dealer. They will charge you an arm and a leg just to assess the problem. I learned that lesson the hard way. I just found my new garage! Thanks! read more

I cannot tell you how anxious I get to have work done on my car. I feel like I'm always being talked down to and treated like I know nothing about anything. This did not happen here and let me tell you it was so refreshing when I told them exactly what was wrong, they checked it out and they fixed it as fast as was possible! Everyone I talked to was so nice and helpful and they were able to get my car fixed the day the piece came in! Not to mention it was in a super convenient place, being right off campus, and the prices were less expensive than anywhere else I looked at having my car fixed at. While I hope I don't need to go back, it's the first place I'd go if I need something fixed! read more

Our daughters car started rattling / making noise. We live two hours away. I called Campus Garage and even though they were booked they worked her car in and fixed it (fortunately just had to tighten the lug nuts). They didn't charge yet anything. My first "new" car was a Volkswagen. I loved my VW, but it always needed a lot of expensive repairs. For several years after purchase, I was driving to Des Moines or Mason City to dealerships for repairs because I was told that only dealerships had the proper diagnostic equipment. Well after a recommendation from someone I know I was turned on to Campus Garage. These guys did EXCEPTIONAL work on my Volkswagen at prices much lower than I would have paid at the dealerships. I wish I would have known about the quality repairs that these guys do a lot earlier. I would have saved thousands of dollars and hours of my time. Campus Garage is honest, and works to find ways to save you money. They worked hard to find a refurb transmission that fit my budget for repairs. If you own a European import, don't leave Ames for repairs. Take your car to Campus Garage. They are fast, fair, and honest. Until we had our daughters car taken care of here I didn't know there was such a thing as a honest mechanic. I am floored by the great customer service we received all the way in Jersey. I cannot say enough great things about this place. Totally took care of my daughters car and we are ever so grateful! Were so friendly on the phone and really knowledgeable. Really honest and fixed her car a day earlier than quoted. They actually gave us a guestamate which is what no other shop would do. Came in a lot cheaper than what we thought was wrong with the car. I had a situation with my car while visiting Ames. My car was towed to their location after hours and I left a message explaining my situation. Charlie and Eric were super helpful and could have taken great advantage of me, but they did not. What I thought was a dyer situation (having no car to get back home to Chicago with) turned out to be an easy fix that they did for me at no charge! There were a ton of cars in the lot, yet they took care of me knowing I needed to get home. If I lived in the Ames area, I would definitely bring my cars here for repair. Just drove from Waterloo to Ames to pick up the kids car because they quoted $750 to replace a fuel pump in a 2002 Ford Taurus. The only thing wrong with the car was that it was out of gas. Mechanic lied directly to my face about what he did for Diagnostics. Low fuel light was on so I put 3 gallons of gas in it and it fired right up. Checked fuel pressure (56psi) and have now driven it 100 miles with zero problems. These guys are thieves who prey on college kids who don't know any better. read more

They are very honest and considerate to the customers. I brought my 2012 Sonata to them because of a wobbling steering wheel. In a few hours, they diagnosed the problem as being due to a small defective part that should be covered by the Hyundai 10-year extended warranty. I had no idea about the warranty coverage, and they could have just replaced it to make profit. Instead, they suggested me to go to the Huyndai dealership and have it fixed for free. In addition, they printed me a stack of paper illustrating where the problem is and how it should be covered by warranty: everything they did for no charge. Their honesty really speaks for their trustworthiness. I will definitely bring my cars to them in the future. Highly recommended. read more

I had my son's 2001 Infiniti I30t with 252,000 miles on it towed here after another local auto repair place wanted to charge me between $2,000 and $2,500 to make what they said were necessary repairs! My son's car just died on I80 60 miles from school in Ames. After the car spent one week at the competitor's auto repair, they came up with the above absurd charges. Then, after I called to have it towed to Campus Garage, the owner quoted me a reduced price of $1,400! He also mentioned that if it was too much, that maybe one of his mechanics would be interested in purchasing the car or if interested, that I could always contact the local salvage yard for a price to scrap the car! I just so happened to call the local salvage yard and the honest man there asked me what was wrong with the car. After telling him, he recommended that I have it towed to Campus Garage. I followed through with his advice and towed to Campus Garage and I'm glad I did! The vehicle had a lot of electronics that communicated with the main computer and the problem diagnosed by Campus Garage was that the fuel pump located in the fuel tank, was not receiving the computer's signal to start or run. Eric at Campus garage quickly determined how to by-pass this problem and ended-up charging me only $162.00 for two hours of work!!! After speaking with Eric about his findings and solutions, I've never been more impressed speaking to a mechanic before as I have with Eric. Like I said before, I know enough about engines, that I tuned them up, rebuilt a small block 350 for a muscle car, done brakes, clutches, etc., but I never met a mechanic before with the knowledge that Eric conveyed to me. The bottom line is that there is no reason to go elsewhere, because what you have with Campus Garage is intelligence, integrity, and affordability. read more

They seemingly easily diagnosed a problem another shop had spent two days trying to locate the cause of. Their workmanship is better than that of most European manufacturers' dealership technicians.
