We love Shaffer's! They did an awesome job repairing our vehicle after it was damaged while parked on the street. In addition, I recently drove up too close to a curb and caught the rubber shield on the bottom of the vehicle, tearing it and causing it to flap constantly against the ground as I drove. Ok so we are new to town... all the way from California. On the way here my little 80 year old Mama had half of her bummer come off from the rough roads. She rolled in to Shaffer's just to ask how much and when they could fix it. A young man named Auston came out to help her. He said I think I can get that on for you... took her car 2005 Scion and in about 10 put the half of bumper on for her. She was amazed. She asked what she owed him and he said no charge!! In this day of such greediness what a fine caring thing to do!! If we ever need anything done to any of our cars this is where we will go!! When I started looking at shops to fix my busted front bumper I was cautious on who to take my car to. I was going to take it to the hyundai dealership but my insurance guy said they were over charging. I decided to take my chances with Shaffers Auto Body Co. and they agreed with my insurance guy. I didn't have any problems through the whole process. They even have be a loaner car to get around. When I got my car back it was nice and vaccumned out and had a nice wash, along with the bumper matching the same color as the car. The exchange below happened over 2 years ago, but when I saw it in my Yelp account hanging out as "unfinished" for some reason, I wanted to be sure to post it to give them due credit (better late than never!) I was underemployed and facing some challenges at the time so their kindness in helping me out for free, when fate seemed to have it out for me in all other respects, meant more to me than they can ever know. Unfortunately I moved from the area soon after so I haven't had a chance to give them repeat business. I hope this gets them some business in return! Here we go... *********************** I went to Shaffer's 30 minutes before they closed with my old car that had been in an accident that morning thanks to a lovely Iowa snow storm. I was clear that I would not be doing any major body work because I only carried liability insurance on it. I just wanted to be sure my car was still safe to drive and get the driver's side door to open again. A technician immediately opened up a bay and told me to drive it in. Within about 5 minutes he had gotten the door to open, popped the side view mirror back into place, and removed a piece of plastic that could have started rubbing on my tires. He also discussed some low cost options if I ever wanted to replace the fender. Amazingly, when I asked him what I owed, he told me there would be no charge. I was so overjoyed that what I'd feared would be an expensive and time consuming experience was quick and painless! As if this wasn't enough, the shop was spotless. As a young woman, I so appreciate when car repairmen don't try to swindle me and treat me with respect. Shaffer's truly puts people first. read more

This place was awesome. I took my car in after an accident and had to leave it over a school break, which they were cool with. They fixed the damage and a little bit of automotive trouble I was having with the car for a very reasonable price. I had some damage to the tailgate of my 2015 Edge. Had heard that Shaffer's did a god job, so I took it up there on a Wed. And it was ready the following Wed. They not only fixed the damage so that you couldn't tell there had ever been any, but they washed it and detailed the inside! What a pleasant surprise! I will say be careful. And makes sure you are sticking around Ames for many years. I had work done on my brand new honda civic in 2016 after a side swipe. Paint color is many shades different for all the work done and there's cracks along their paint job. Now I'm stuck with a 2100 dollar fix cause it was done wrong and I now live to far away. Haven't had a vehicle come back from Shaffer's right yet! First try (years ago) - didn't re-hook up the interior lights so they worked when the door is open. Sloppy, but at least they fixed it upon return. Second - didn't get the trim put on correctly. Had to go back and have them do it again. Again sloppy...and I should have learned my lesson by then. Third - said they'd replace both running boards since they had to be purchased as a pair, and let me keep the old one from the non-damaged side. NOPE. Put one on so they don't match. How lovely.... And forth (was in at the same time as the 3rd or we wouldn't have gone back) gave us back the vehicle with a part broken that wasn't when we took it in. Drove it a few blocks, noticed the problem, had it TOWED back and then they charged us to fix it. Talked to other body shops who all said absolutely they would not have handled the problem that way. They will have the opportunity to prove that in the future because none of our vehicles well ever go back here! read more
