OK, this is very interesting, i did read all the reviews here about this company "American Tech". but went there anyways just because it was very close to my work and flat rate fee . so i went inside and i talk to the tech, i have HP Laptop the screen went blank, computer turned on but no display and all the light stays on.. i did research online before taking my computer to American tech, this issue cause by video chip on the motherboard. when i showed my computer to SAM "Technician", he told me right away the problem and explained me that it would cost $99 flat rate to fix this problem but if this doesn't get fixed by re-soldering the video chip back on the motherboard then he will have to replace the motherboard but he wont charge any additional labor to do so except price for the part "motherboard" which totally make sense.. so even reading the reviews listed, i still went for it, he sounded very professional and knowledgeable. the very next day he called me and said that he has a good news for me. he was able to fix the video problem by re-soldering the chip back to motherboard, I couldn't believe it because I did call some other places and they quoted me way higher price which made me think to buy a new computer.. and not only that he fixed the overheating issue that i had before.. lot more to write about this person and company but i make it short that he was amazing experience and service he performed was very professional without any scratch on my Laptop.. My experience is absolutely great! Saw this guy's listing on Craigslist. Glad I did. There is Tech name Sam he fixed my computer. They offered me free diagnostic. I spilled a huge glass of water all over my brand new laptop, and according to internet instructions, I took it completely apart and let it air dry for two days. After putting it back together, it thankfully turned on but the keyboard didn't work at all. I called around to a few places and after explaining my problem, I received several very high quotes. I called American Tech and I brought it in, they ordered me a new keyboard, quoted me $49 for parts and labor $69 and a week later I had a fully functioning laptop that looks identical to when I purchased it. They are so nice, so professional, and offer a quality, inexpensive service. I will recommend them over and over again There is no one more reliable and honest than they are. They are in the business to keep you as a customer not to make a quick buck! They have superb service and can fix almost anything. If I could give a half of a star or no star I would, let's just start with that....Brought my computer in for minimal problems (wireless configuration and DVD player malfunction) and ended up bringing my computer home after it had been "fixed" only to find the computer would not even turn on. This was not a problem the computer was having when I brought it in....I called and explained that the computer had clearly gotten worse in their care. They took NO responsibility. I had to bring the computer back again. They charged me another $30 because now apparently the RAM had been "destroyed on the car ride home from their shop". They reassured me that it happens all the time....To make a long story short, I ended up spending $150 and now have a computer that had to be reset to it's factory settings which ended up erasing Microsoft Office and every program I had ever bought. They did not inform me that this would happen before they restored it. Do not go here, if you can help it, they are running a shady business that should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I recently had a portable hard drive that failed on me. I brought it to Best Buy and they said I'd have to find a recovery company to help recover my data as the drive was corrupted. I asked around and was recommended to American Tech Inc. I sent a request through their site and Sam called me back within 24 hours. He was very informative and explained everything with a calmness about him that made me definitely want to get my drive fixed with them. They sent a messenger to pick up my drive and emailed a status report within days. He told me that he could recover the majority of the files. I hurried and purchased an external drive and had it mailed directly to American Tech. My data was recovered and mailed back to me. I'm am completely grateful to American Tech Inc. These guys are awesome. I have used them now on repairing 3 computers and they have demonstrated competence on all repairs. First I took in a laptop with a cracked screen. Repair completed on the same day that the replacement screen arrived, total cost about 1/3 of what Dell proposed to charge. Next I took the laptop in when due to a virus it was making strange noises. Repair completed in a day, total cost $69.00!!! Last I took in a desktop unit we purchased as a kit and had trouble assembling. They identified one of my assembly goofs as a potential short, they reassembled the unit, took the time to install my operating system and made sure that all relevant service packs were also installed. I am sure they spent in excess of three hours dealing with this unit, yet my total repair cost was $99.00. I highly recommend both Jeff and Sam as super competent computer nerds, people could not do better than these guys, low cost, competent, timely repairs, who could ask for more? read more

i see here that my review got filtered, i don't know why, but anyways, i had a great experience couple months ago when my computer had hardware issue with dc jack and they fixed it. did a great job and it is still working so far. just about 3 days ago i got a nasty virus on my computer. I'm pretty good at software stuff, installing, reinstalling windows, and removing viruses. but this virus deleted all my files, from c drive and everything from desktop. i freaked out. but i took it to American Tech again, they checked it in, just yesterday they called and said that everything is working fine now. all my data is back. i picked it up and sure it is. all my data is back on same locations, they told me that this virus causes this problem where it hide all stuff from computer. which is hard to get it back but it is fixable.... - They most certainly do not 'fix all computer problems'! Instead they have left this customer feeling cheated and extremely unsatisfied. I have both internal and external problems with my laptop, even after it was declared as 'repaired' by the representatives of American Tech. One such rep, was unable to provide any answers when queired about the persistence of these problems. In turn, I was told by his superior that, ultimately, there what nothing they could do (without more payments of course!). While in repair they evidently cracked the casing of my laptop and refused to accept repsonsibilty (which they tried to cover up with sellotape! - classy). Minus a couple hundred bucks and my laptop is still in bits. Totally inadequate service, impounded by poor customer relations skills... You've been warned kids! read more

These guys here are super nice. They fixed up my laptop good as new. They even managed to save all my files on my laptop even when I gave them permission to wipe everything. I was told that it would take one to two days to for a fix with a $69 flat rate unless hardware needed to be ordered. They ended up working on it for about a week since my laptop's issue was quite unique. With all the time they spent to fix it, I felt like I owed them much more than $69, but the grand total was just $69. They were super thorough; kept organized notes on everything that they did to repair the problem. I'm super happy that they saved my thousand dollar laptop for less than 100 dollars. Sam and staff are super friendly and amazing. The shop is in Berkeley by the University, but metered parking in front of the store was always open. Did Free diagnostic here, compared to Best Buy Geek Squad was $80 for diagnosis was a total rip off. My laptop video card was fried from watching too many "educational videos" and being over 6 yrs old, he explained the video card is integrated into the motherboard, so the whole motherboard needed to be replaced. $250 total was not too bad considering I was about to buy a new laptop was a great deal. Took about 2 weeks, but I'm really not complaining at all because you can't beat the price and quality of work. read more

My toshiba laptop had a power issue and didn't boot up at all. Since I bought the laptop from best buy, I decided to take it to the Best Buy and they estimated that repairs would cost about $250 plus $35 diagnostics fee. So I decided find other deals from local repair shops and found American Tech, Inc. They only charged $69 for repair and fixed the problem within 3 business days. I have used these guys twice, and got better service and results than I paid for. The first time it was for a bad motherboard. I turned my computer on and it wouldn't start. I took it to American Tech, and they put in the new motherboard for their usual $99 price, and they didn't kill me on the price of the motherboard. The second time, it was for a tune-up. It was in the shop for only two days and came out running like it was new. No complaints, no problems, no nothing. I won't take my machine anywhere but to Sam and Jeff. They are great! read more

They helped me out a lot , I took it there recently to be fixed and they called me two days later to say it was fixed. It has a few viruses on it and there was a problem with they hard drive. They did a good job and when I went to pick it up, one of the guys there (I don't remember his name) told me of affordable ways I can upkeep my computer. I found these guys on Craigslist for my computer repair, I got viruses on my laptop I called them to find out about their flat rate $69 I really like this deal. Very professional over the phone I dropped my computer at their shop, a girl at the counter checked in my computer , very nice and very knowledgable. My computer had a nasty virus. Jeff at American Tech fixed it over a holiday weekend. I didn't have to wait days for it to be diagnosed, which was great because I only have one computer. The price was a mere $69. Jeff was happy to answer follow up questions and hung in there until all the kinks were worked out. He suggested an anti-virus program to prevent getting viruses in the future. He was thorough, patient and friendly. I highly recommend this repair shop if your computer has a virus. read more

My computer crashed but American Tech Fixed it at no time... I work exclusively on my computer and I cannot afford to be without it. One terrible day the screen just went Blue on me and thats all I could see. I know people are generally skeptical about 5 star reivews, but I believe it's deserved. I brought my computer to them, thinking it was beyond repair. I got a virus that hid everything, all my information, my apps. It just turned the screen black. We tried a few things over the phone first and when they didn't work, I brought the computer at the Shop, Sam was able to recover everything! He also did some maintenance and cleanup.
