The process was very smooth and the technicians took extra care to get the best position for maximum power since I have a single-story home and there is a 2-story home to the south of me that blocks some sunlight during the winter months. UPDATED: Was contacted after posting this review, they were able to get back to me with an estimate on the new work. I'm updating my review to three stars from two stars. PREVIOUS REVIEW: We had solar panels installed about 10 years ago. At that time their service and response time to questions were quick and attentive. Answered all our questions. We recently had them upgrade our Fronius inverter and experienced an immediate 12-13% drop in output. They came out once to try to determine the cause, but after upgrading the new inverter they threw in the towel and didn't want to investigate it any further, saying that there's nothing they can do about it. At the same time I inquired about upgrading some panels, and they promised to provide me with an estimate. Despite my having called several times, I cannot get them to respond to my emails or phone calls in over a month. It seems their service has degraded over the last 10 years. They get two stars for the great work 10 years ago, but I wouldn't recommend trying them now. read more

Installation was a nightmare as the original technician could not commission and set up the new inverter which ultimately was a 2 week process. Apparently he was on the job only one week and did not have the proper equipment to finish the installation on the inverter. read more

It's been 5-6 years since you installed my solar system. After a. few glitches in the first few months all has worked flawlessly. I did appreciate getting your offer to come out and do a check up on the system but the cost $895 was too much. So, as long as my system continues to operate well I'm a happy customer. read more

After 9 years and 10 months into a 10 year inverter warranty, offered by ABB (as the inverter manufacturer) & American Solar (as the original installer), they came out and promptly fixed our DOA inverter. No muss, no fuss. A professional crew for sure. No jerk around, and no ancillary roof damage. A very good and safety concious crew for sure. As a result, I learned to never buy an inverter in the future without a 20 year minimum warranty. I will likely also never add any solar panels with an attached micro-inverter either. It is probably too hot in AZ to make sense of having the inverter below the PV panel. It would be asking a lot for these to last even 10 years in AZ. So unless you have a lot of trees making partial shade, check the MTBF for both inverter types before purchasing any new hardware. That all said, adding solar power is the best move I have ever made as a home improvement. Buy them, don't lease them just to give away your money. They replaced our roof which was done well. They replaced our panels we bought from them nearly 20 years ago with better panels, and the inverter was also replaced. Everything works great. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is we weretold to get a wifi extender to put into a room closer to the inverter to connect. The rep said it was important. We bought a $60 extender, contacted the rep twice that we have it so he could come out to finish the internet connection. It's been radio silence after M.I.A. after almost a month. I guess it wasn't important to American Solar after all. read more

Quality of reroofing is poor. Work was done by subcontractors not employees. Multiple problems with loose tiles, missing nails, and inadequate flashing. Needless to say roof leaks. For the solar they installed many years ago, and the additional panels and a redo of our roof three years ago, and the attempt they made on locating a leak a year after the new roof was installed, there is no question that the rating would be 5 stars. But for their lack of interest in doing much of anything when the leak reappeared a few months back, the rating would be 0 stars. so as of now they get a 3 rating. read more

We are a customer with a 20 year lease on our system. For the second time in 12 years, our inverter has failed. The first time we were down for a long period of time (unsure exactly how long) but for this failure we have been down since mid August, and the messages keep saying that it is expected in 3-4 weeks, then 1-2 weeks, then we are expecting it!!?? In the meantime, my bill last month was about $200 in August, $350 in September, and $300 in October with no inverter in sight. This seems unreasonable!!?? read more

In December 2021, we had our inverter replaced by American Solar & Roofing. The work was done by Isaiah Morrell. He did a great job with the installation, but the last step was enabling access to the online portal to review the status of the solar panel system. Isaiah indicated the process was complete, but I could not access the online portal. I sent more than one email asking for assistance. We circulated around a January 5, 2022 date for review of the issue, but he never returned. We also had the underlayment for our roof replaced by American Solor & Roofing and I understood that the work would include making sure the solar system was fully functional. After the roof job was complete and the system was running again, I followed up with additional emails to Isaiah, with the last being on May 10, 2022. I also sent a message to Brayden Christie about access to the Sunny Boy monitoring system on May 24, 2022. To this day, we still do not have access to the online portal nor have I received any responses to my emails in April and May 2022. We had damage to two of our solar panels from the microburst in October, 2025. This damage was covered by our insurance company. Unfortunately, I discovered that the company who had installed the system in August 2021, SunUp America, had gone out of business. At the suggestion of a neighbor, we contacted American Solar and Roofing to replace our two solar panels. They came to our house promptly and said that they needed to do an "inspection" in order to proceed. This inspection was completed on 10/29/25. They charged us $450.00 for the inspection. It is unclear to us what they did for the $450.00. They then ostensibly ordered the two panels that needed to be replaced. Since that time I have called enumerable times and talked to an employee who continued to tell me the panels were on order. In the last month they have stopped returning my calls. When I attempted to call the CEO, who I spoke with at the outset of this negotiation, the phone calls were not answered and the mailbox is full. I let my neighbor, who recommended American Solar and Roofing, know the bad experience I had with this company on 3/30/26. On 3/31/26 I received a call from an employee of American Solar and Roofing who left a message saying that he understood I had an issue with the company. I returned his call, but he was totally unaware of what the problem was, and was not willing to discuss any kind of restitution. I would definitely not recommend this company. read more

American Solar contacted me regarding the age of my inverter. They said the inverters usually last about 10 years. I contracted with them to replace the inverter for over 4K. After the installation of the new inverter only half of my panels are producing as they broke one of the leads from the panels to the inverter. Apparently they think it is my fault that the technician broke the lead and they want over 3K to run a new lead. I am looking for an ethical and honest solar co. to do the work. read more

I had them put solar on my house about 20 years ago just recently I inquired for them to come out and do a check up/inspection on my house. I submitted it online. I heard not a word from them. I had another come through that did a inspection on my roof and found that we had damaged from the storm that came through in Tempe more than likely they will get the job but not American Solar they miss out. In 2012 I began my relationship with American Solar & Roofing. Starting with a note left on my door I made an appointment, then I made 2 other competitive appointments. Went back to American - they were sincere, up front and I liked that they could give me a roofing estimate prior to install (since I just moved into home). Best decision ever! Then in 2024 I needed a new roof on my 30yr home and due to their roofing background and my solar investment chose them and feel I got not only great service but a very reasonable price based on what neighbors have paid. read more

We got our system 10 years ago, I figured it was time to write a review. American Solar did a lot of things right. Their guys were professional and very knowledgeable. They were on time, on schedule, up to code, and got us connected to the grid. They even worked a deal with us to install a small array that we owned, in addition to the array we leased through them. So far, NO roof leaks, yay! We had a huge deluge a few months ago, and when I inspected in the attic, it was all completely dry. And we've had some very strong winds over the years, but the panels remained firmly attached. Our production has gradually dropped about 13% in the last 10 years, which was about what was predicted (1% per year, compounded). We used to make 46 kWhr/day peak, now it's about 40 kWhr/day. Where they let us down: Well, they claimed to be roofing experts, which I don't doubt. But they said not one word to us about the pigeon problem we would eventually have, and didn't include or recommend a pigeon barrier. After 6 years we had pigeons living under the panels. I have also learned that roofing felt typically needs replacement at around 20 years. Our felt was 9 years old when the panels were installed. They didn't say one word to us about the likely need for new felt before the 20-year lease was up, nor did they mention that the cost of removing and replacing the panels would nearly wipe out ANY savings on a 20-year lease!!! (About $8000-$10,000 to remove and replace the panels for a re-felting, plus about $12-$15,000 for the roofing labor and materials). Two neighbors on our street have had to have partial roof replacements at 20 years, and one of them had solar and it cost them a fortune to get it all done. That seems like a huge omission. How many people would get solar systems if they were told that there would be no savings over the lifetime of a solar lease? Another issue is that although the panels have a 25-year warranty, that doesn't include labor! The labor cost is as much as a new panel, plus a service call. And I should add that most people don't stay in a house more than 10 years anyway, so a solar system is a huge money loser. For us it's our retirement home and we've been here 13 years, and plan to be here at least until the solar system is removed in 10 years. We haven't needed a roof re-felt or repair yet, so fingers crossed that we'll make it another 10 years and then we'll breathe a sigh of relief when those panels are removed. The vast majority of people will never break even on a solar system, no matter the hype, and no matter what you're told. Most people just get them because they want to spend money, and they are duped into believing that the system will pay for itself and save them money. read more

Jennifer & Joy: Just wanted to reach out to you both since I had American Solar & Roofing come out to inspect our roof since your installation back on 2015 when we had our home here in Canta Mia built by AV Homes and you were the selected Solar installer by AV Homes. I just had another roofing company come out due to a water leak that we had in our outside AZ room and had to get the sheet rock repaired but not until we found the leak. They thought it was coming from under the solar panels and suggested we should call out American solar as they were the installer back then. I reached out via email on your website stating we would like an inspection due to a leak in the roof and within 2 hours, if that, I had Cory from your Customer Service office call me at our home. This was on Thursday March 17th and he asked me if Monday March 20th would work between the hours of 7:00-11:00 am to send out one of our Roof technicians. I said yes! Pedro from your office was here sharply at 8:00 am and found the leak under the 3rd row of panels right away and saw two stanchions that lost all of their sealant and a possible leak area just to the left of the panels. So he "wet patched" that possible area and resealed all four stanchions along the 3rd row area. He really did a great job! After he was done I expected a bill but he said NO, American roofing is covering it since we installed the Solar panels when you had it built back in 2015. I just wanted you to know how well you're people performed and how grateful we are on the repairs your company provided. Pedro took photos of the area and advised he would be sending to my email address. Please extend our appreciation to all of your people for handling this situation with professionalism and courtesy from the get go! My neighbors asked me over and over how did the repairs go and what did you pay. I stated American covered the repairs under their warranty for the panels and roof and everyone said WOW. This is an update to my earlier review 2/03/2022 - UPDATE In order to address the under-performance of my solar installation relative to the production of electricity proposed in 2019, the American Solar co-founder (Sean Seitz) made a proposal to me on Jan 19, 2022 to upgrade 9 of the 19 solar panels. I accepted the proposal and agreed to pay $2,400 for the upgrade. On Jan 20, their crew removed the 9 old panels and installed 8 new ones. Alas, when I was checking the new production level to ensure it conformed with the proposal, I discovered a mathematical error which Sean Seitz had made in the proposal. To rectify this error, they should have installed 9 not just 8 panels. Sean Seitz admitted the mistake: "You are absolutely right. That is completely my mistake. I will work the team to identify a solution on Monday," he wrote to me in an email on Jan 22, 2022. The American Solar brought the extra panel on Jan 27, but did not install it because of some roofing issues. I have been waiting for them to fix them and finish the job ever since. Of late, the Joy Seitz, the company president, and Sean Seitz have stopped replying to my emails and texts. Today, I warned them in an email and text that if they do not give me a firm completion date today, I would work to have their licenses revoked. read more

Some of the reviews about this company that we trust and have used in the past are disturbing and I may have thought twice not gone with them again if were not for the great experience with them back in 2013. It seems they do have a personal turn over problem. But so do a lot of companies presently. I chose them again because of the outstanding job on our Festival home. This time our install was delayed 45 days or so, and they were not really responsive at first. That's why I dinged them one star. But now that the install is done and Ben & Amen did a fantastic install job, as well and Jesus and the roofing crew, I can only hope that it all works the way it is intended as before. The system was inspected today by Peoria and passed with flying colors. I am impressed with the layout design, the roof work, and even down to the tags on the equipment they installed. Although the roof is not yet finished looks great so far. Jose' our project manager is now communicating almost daily and is a great guy to work with. I know some folks have had trouble according to the reviews, but not all customers have had issues. It seems to me they are trying to live up to everyone's expectations including their own. I can recommend American Solar and Roofing based on now two installs since 2013. I am sure they are striving every day to give all customers the best value for their money stand behind their work. Most people write to complain if they are unhappy if they are satisfied they do nothing. I've had some concerns with American Solar. However, there are some bright stars at the company that are dedicated to customer service. Jesus the roofing coordinator has been wonderful in trying to accommodate my needs and resolving issues. He has gone above and beyond my expectations. Adam has been great in terms of managing the whole process and Taneya in the back office has been most helpful in helping with the billing/payment aspects of the project. They all have been responsive to my concerns- and have all worked hard to keep me apprised to what's happening with my project. read more

What started out as a bad experience has turned into a great experience. We were first quoted $2000 to fix a solar problem. When they went to rewire our system, it turned out to be a simple problem. They could have charged us for it, and we would have never known. I want to thank them for being honest. I hired American Solar & Roofing to install new solar system, mainly on recommendation from my neighbor who used this company over 7 years ago for his project. I did have some concerns due to few recent negative reviews, which I addressed with the company, but they were honest about it and provided reasonable explanation. I signed the contract end of February, and my system was turned on last week. The project went very smoothly with a small delay due to incorrect tags that had to be replaced. I received timely notifications regarding scheduling and project progress from Jose L. (project manager) and Cheyenne B. (contract administrator). The installation was completed by Miguel and his team with no issues and one day ahead of schedule. Overall, this was a great experience - everyone was professional, extremely nice, and knowledgeable about the process. I would highly recommend this company. American installed our solar and we are very pleased. Recently I called to ask if there was a user tool so that I could monitor performance before something went really bad. They said there was but a tech would have to come to my house to set it up. The kicker is they want $250 for the a service call. I think that is crazy. $250 for a service call!
