Like many NYer's I have succumb to putting things in storage. The sad thing is I can fit this stuff in my apt but just got use to not having extra crap in the house when I had my place on the market. It's a clean storage facility and fairly reasonably priced. I will say I do not plan on having it for much longer unless I need another place to stay..lol. read more

It's refreshing when I go someplace and the people there ask me to mamke sure I shop around. The lady at the counter was so nice. I told her what I wanted to store and she said she didn't have small spaces available that I should check with the facility on Tillary street. It's not every day that someone doesn't try and sell you something you don't need. But the woman here gave me the price list, suggested I look at a few other places in the area and sent me on my way. I actually took her advice and saw a few other storage spots but it's nice that they were straight about my storage needs and what they had available. I've been renting a space here for close to 6 years mainly because it was cheap and close to my home. Because of that I was looking the other away from things that have been annoying me this whole time. I can't do that any longer. From the day I moved into my unit there has been a constant white paint or plaster dropping in from who knows where covering my belongings. There isn't a solid ceiling over my unit. Just a metal fence like grate that lays on top. It started off slow, but over the years has increased to the point where I have had to cover everything with a heavy duty plastic. Not long ago someone broke into my unit. I show up one day and my lock was completely busted. Without touching anything I went downstairs to management to complain. Her first response was "are you sure you didn't leave your lock unlocked?". After taking a deeeeep breath and counting to ten, I assured her that I have NEVER left a lock unlocked in my life and I sure would not have at a public storage place. Plus this was a brand new lock that was deliberately broken. She gave me a new lock. Claimed there wasn't much more she could do. If anything was stolen I haven't noticed yet. The ironic part is there is a camera right above my unit that I guess no one watches. I was ready and should have moved out at that point but didnt. The straw that broke my back was when I showed up the other day at 8am-place was still closed. They are supposed to be open M-S 8am-6:30pm. I called-no one answered. Granted someone showed up about 10 minutes later to open, but she was by herself and I needed to use the freight elevator. She stated someone would be there in 5 minutes to operate it. I couldn't wait and decided to drag my cart up the stairs. I'm exhausted with ignoring and putting up with stuff here. At $85 a month I'm sure I can find someplace better. read more

I have to agree with most of the yelpers here (in terms of the poor customer service). The woman on the phone hung up on me after I asked a single question and I wasn't even done inquiring about hours and prices. I went in to rent a unit and whoever was there was just as rude. Their hours are EXTREMELY specific- BE SURE TO CALL TO CHECK WHEN LAST MOVE IN is at! I feel like it's different from their website and it changes every day!! It's pretty inexpensive so I'm only renting for two months for around $115 but man, seriously lacking in basic soft skills. Side note: you have to purchase your own lock (or buy one there) read more

Criminally negligent. Omar, the manager at LIC is the nastiest person I have ever met. Don't feel safe around him that's for sure. I emptied my storage unit and then was told that I had to return from eh west coast to actually close my account. In the end they told me they'd accept a notarized letter, but when I sent the letter they refused to accept it. From the women at the front desk to the guy who takes you up and down in the freight elevator, the people at this facility are a pleasure to deal with. They are extremely helpful and always go above and beyond to make the storage experience as easy as possible. I needed to transfer my belongings from a smaller to larger space, so I telephoned in advance. When I arrived, they knew who I was and what I needed. The entire transaction was painless. i don't know why i was so afraid of storage places. i guess it's because i didn't know how it worked or why i would ever need one. i had to move out within a few days and needed a storage facility near to where i was temporarily staying. i had a few friends research the best rates and locations and we came upon American Self Storage. they open at 10am on Sundays, so we were there right on the dot. you can park your car/van/truck in the back loading area. checking in and signing up is a breeze! i never thought it would be that easy. we loaded all of my things in one of the spaces... and since it was a much smaller space, i was actually granted $10 less than the market price. that was sweet!!!!!!! the front desk staff here are very helpful, informative, attentive and NICE! no attitude on the phone, no snarkiness when asking a stupid question (and i ask a lot of those!!) and good service. when i had moved into a new place, American Self Storage told me when to have everything out by so i didn't get a new charge for the month. that was kind of them to give me a heads up. when i notified them i was taking out my things from the space... the woman on the phone said, "aww... you're leaving us?" so cute. i would recommend this place to anyone who's needing a space in Brooklyn. it's right under the BQE and easy to find! read more

Nice space. Definitely a little more on the industrial side, not quite super clean but never a problem there. They are cool to let you stay a little late if you're still loading/unloading, & they found me a spot on the first floor even when it looked like there were none left. Staff is friendly, both behind the desk & in the storage areas. Thanks! Two issues - 1 - The parking/loading dock. They recently expanded their storage by putting extra lockers in what used to be 2 parking spots. Lame! It becomes congested at turnover times. Also, the loading ramp is very steep, so heavy loads can drag you down dangerously, &/or are hard to get up. The ramp is also poorly situated, so it takes a lot of maneuvering to get your hand truck onto the ramp going down; again, potentially dangerous. 2 - If you get a space that's not on the first floor, you need to be taken up in the elevator by staff. Not huge, but if you're in a rush, you may end up waiting on either or both ends. So best to try & find a locker on the first floor. read more

I've been with this site for years! This is what customer service is supposed to be like! When I needed a space, Rosa even called me to update me about availability! Always a smile, friendly, I feel like I know someone on the inside. I stored other places and never the personability I see here. They work with me to get things done and I appreciate that. This place is fantastic!! The prices are reasonable and the facility is very clean and well-lit. The employees are super nice. Especially Lou!! He's so great. Really happy I chose to use them. Tips - I would make sure to call to find out their hours. The definitely aren't the same as on the website. And my facility had a wire type top so made sure to throw some plastic covers over the top of my items that were on top. No big deal for me as I was only there a month. read more

BE CAREFUL: DIAMOND PROTECTION Other reviewers have already mentioned the poor service so I won't waste your time about that. I'll let you guys know about the little storage insurance scam that they have going. So, if you happen to rent space here, do not get the diamond protection. Here is my story. Several of their floors flooded and they apparently never mentioned this to any of their affected customers. (Great service, right?) By chance, I happened to come in 3 weeks later because I wanted to pick up a piece of clothing. To my horror, all my stuff was ruined! Mold everywhere. The crazy thing is that it could have all been saved if they had notified their customers. But they never did. Just kept quiet. It's crazy. Did they think that the water would all dry up and nobody would notice? (I'm sure that was what they were thinking. If customers came a year later, they could claim that the stuff was originally damaged I guess.) Anyway, I was paying for their Diamond protection program so I thought my stuff should be covered, right? Nope. I had damages exceeding $40,000 but only paid for full coverage of $12k or something. But get this. Instead of writing out a check for $12k, they offered me a check for only $5k!!! Why? Now, here is the kicker. They said that they would ONLY give me the check for $5k if I signed a waiver that I won't ask for the rest of the $7k. They know the damages are much more than $5k but they will only settle if you sign that piece of paper that stated you will forfeit any future claims and waive them from all negligent liability. Do you believe that?!? But if I didn't sign that waiver, I would get ZERO!! Not even the $5k. What kind of insurance is this?!! Apparently, they have no intention of ever insuring your belongings for the full $12k even though you have been paying for full coverage for years. This is obviously illegal but it doesn't matter to this business. Get this. Since they are self-insuringI really hope that more people will call the state insurance commission to bring this business down. It's really not right what they are doing. Excellent customer service! The staff is helpful, especially a young woman at the front desk named Kimmy. I had gone to the location for a 5x10 unit but for the day I needed they did not have that size available. Kimmy was extremely helpful and actually found me a 7x10 and due to the price I had been quoted, matched the price even though the unit was larger and priced higher. In addition she allowed me to view more than one unit of the size i desired so I could choose the one that I liked best. ** Big Plus is the truck rental that is free for 2hrs. I would definitely recommend American Self Storage. read more

Called for a price quote. The person answers phone like she is at her home, "hello." When asked how she was doing, like pulling teeth. She was very rude and couldn't give me prices for their over market price storage units at their other locations. "I don't know! You would have to call the other locations yourself." Thank you for saving me money, I will stop trying to save money and stay with my current storage provider. They are very polite. read more

American Self Storage at 45 Clinton Street is a clean facility with very helpful staff. Tony who runs the elevator and the receptionist are especially helpful. The only reason I gave it four instead of five stars is because American Self Storage does not have a policy of pro rating. In other words, if you pay on the first of the month and after several months you move out on the 5th, you still have to pay the balance of the month even though the space is available to rent out to someone else. I hope they change this policy because it would get the extra star in my book. Anyway, I unhesitatingly recommend American Self-Storage and intend on using it again in the future. read more

Clean, efficient, well-run, and a great staff that is always helpful. Everyone is great, but Rosa is especially awesome. Sweet and friendly but also very professional.
