We had OK pedicures the other day. For $42 each I expected an experience worthy of $42 and an $8 tip. So I spent $100 on a "blah" experience. When I say I want a pedicure and point to the one i want, don't do a hard sale to get the next level one. It's awkward and disrespectful. When you're giving a pedicure, don't be on your phone via ear buds having a romantic conversation. I heard you. Ha! For the price, I expect a decent leg massage lasting more than 30 seconds. But since you were on your phone, you had no idea what was happening. The chair gave a nice massage and my toes look nice, so that earned 2 stars. Keep trying, American Nails. A little more attention to your clients is a good idea since there are MANY other nail salons in the area. read more

This is the 2nd time that I have had a mani/pedi at this nail place. Both experiences consisted of a very pushy nail tech/manager yelling across the salon insisting that I purchase gel nails and more expensive pedicure and salon treatments, in addition to demanding I need a eyebrow wax. It was hard to relax having my hands and feet yanked in different directions during the simultaneous mani/pedi, while the manicurist demands I lay back in relax.. I got my nails done there and I loved it! I was loyal to one of their competitors but that last couple of time I got my nails done they were expensive and never looked right... So when I went to American Nails (I heard a lot of good things about them) Julie told me they weren't properly doing my nails right and she fixed them free of charge. It made my day! This place was terrible. I went at 5:00, understanding they close at 7:00 and they were rushing me the whole time. They continuously tried to upsell me, telling me to get gel on my toes and not accepting my answer for the type of pedicure I wanted, telling me multiple times I needed to get the highest priced one. I did get gel on my fingernails, and they have chipped off and broken within a week. Usually gel lasts at least 2 weeks on my nails. I'm really upset with the quality of work and the experience in general especially since it cost me $80!! read more

I was ready to try a new nail salon. I read all the reviews and was excited to try American Nail for a pedicure. I should have turned around and left when, right after they asked me what service I wanted, I was told to go wash my hands first! What? I'm here for a pedicure! 2nd red flag was all employees and patrons were masked! Why is this still in place? We are WAY past this mandate! Once I was in a chair and eventually greeted by a nail tech, I was pushed to upgrade my pedicure choice. When I realized she was not backing down, I opted for one step up, which was an additional $7. No big deal... after all it included a "free callous removal" (isn't that a minimum service included in a basic pedicure?) Needless to say I was quite disappointed. The tech did the bare minimum. There was a simple (quick) sugar scrub and minimal work on my toes, re checking for ingrown nails trimming excess skin etc. much less any callous removal or foot massage more than minute or two! This service was $39 in addition to a 20% tip. Too much $ for a less than basic pedicure. I won't be going back. Walked in on a Tuesday late morning for two gel pedicures, one manicure and a full set of ombré coffin shaped nails. We were greeted immediately and give a basket of colors to pick thru. We then were shown to two beautiful new massage chairs. They gave us a wonderful warm type of neck wrap and a menu of 6 different pedicures they offered, from $20 to around $45. Vi did the most amazing job ever, I wish I could have her in California! All in all they did a fabulous job and were extremely friendly. Thank you! Next time I'm in Athens I will be back. read more

Visiting Athens for business, I chose this location based on the numerous five star recommendations on Yelp. I should have heeded the one star review from the guest who said she was rushed through. I came in for a nice "luxurious" pedicure and a gel manicure. I was placed in the spa chair where the young lady started the pedicure. The controller was out of reach so I didn't even getbthe benefit of the massage chair. She showed me the menu where I could choose the variety of services and up charges I wanted. I initially asked for Julie for my nails, based on the most recent recommendation, saying what a great manicure she did. The next thing I know a guy sat down next to me grabbed up my hand and started filing off the old polish with a Dremel tool. I stated to him that I did not want to damage my natural nails because I'm struggling to grow them back out from a previous gel removal where a nail tech filed off over half of my natural nail layer which causes them to split on the ends. He did it anyway. It's called "soak off gel" for a reason, not file, not "file all the polish off" gel. Acetone, folks, acetone!!!! The thing that really bothers me is when salons try to double up services within the same time frame. You have to contort yourself in very uncomfortable positions to accommodate the horde of nail techs working on people providing multiple services in the same area at the same time. I have had several Orthopedic injuries, due to my career in public safety, and some that have required surgery. I now have limited mobility and flexibility due to hardware being screwed into my bones and various joints. There is nothing about contorting myself into a human pretzel that makes a pedicure comfortable, calming, or luxurious. So if you have any physical disabilities or you are differently-abled... This is not the salon you want to come to. They are very insensitive to the needs of people with physical disabilities. I had to ask twice if we could do the manicure after she was done with a pedicure. Now for the most part the pedicure went okay, and again I asked the lady which employee was "Julie". She points to a middle-aged female who I'm suspecting is probably a manager or an owner. I told her that Julie had been recommended for doing quality nail work and I would like Julie to do my nails. However apparently the nail technician who was doing my pedicure didn't want to ask Julie if she would do my nails. Because when she was done with my pedicure she said I'll just do your nails for you if that's okay. It wasn't what I wanted but whatever it takes to get things done and get out the door. I had somewhere to be this afternoon. The technical manicure itself was fine. Getting the polish combination I wanted was apparently an issue because the technician did not agree that my color choices would look good or that they would work together. This is a color combination I've used multiple times in the past when I've had a professional meeting to attend and I can't show up with crazy black and purple and gold nails with funky nail art. She adamantly opposed my choices numerous times and was very reluctant to paint my nails away that I had asked them to be painted. During the whole process of polishing my nails she would huff and sigh loudly, over and over, like a child on the edge of a tantrum. She would sling things into her cabinet drawers, and overall had a very unprofessional attitude, body language, and demeanor. When she was doing the white stripe for my French manicure, she asked multiple times if this is okay and I would respond to her that I would like it just a little bit thinner and not so curved. The way she was polishing them looked very very very fake. It made my nails look like some Dollar Store press-ons. After only the third nail she gets pissed off starts putting away her things slamming things into the drawer and tells me somebody else is going to have to finish you I can't deal with you. Well honey that was fine because I couldn't deal with you either. You were RUDE AF!!!!!! I don't care what a nail technician likes for their personal preferences. When I walk out of this salon, I'm the person who looks at my nails for the next 2 to 3 weeks... not the person providing the service. I really really wish that these salons would stop trying to push THEIR preferences for colors, nail art, and designs on clients who specifically know what they want when they come through the door. So if you're here to try something new don't think for a minute they're going to agree to it or be happy about it. Both the nail technician AND Julie (who finally became involved) told me multiple times "our clients don't get their nails polished this way" Well NO $HIT!!!! I'm not your "other clients"...
