I absolutely love American Nails. My parents live nearby, so when I am visiting I try to make sure to stop by. I am not even kidding when I say my nails last WEEKS whenever I get them done here. Everyone who works here is so nice, accommodating and hardworking. This is one of the only nail salons where I do not dread sitting through my appointment. I went one time and they had my acrylic nails, and a pedicure done in under 45 minutes (did my hands and feet at the same time). When I was there last week, Ann took the time to listen when I told her I bite my nails and I am worried about my nail beds. She told me that she will do dip powder for me, and came up with a schedule for me to come back to do my nails in way that will help and not damage them. This is my experience today, and with Covid restrictions, the service may be different at different times. I was in the area and decided to stop for pedicures with my husband. Clean place (we were the only two there). Cheaper than a lot of places and to be honest it wasn't BAD. Now, I get shellac on my toes which is $20 extra. No problem. I also get the $50 spa pedicure (so $70 all together) and my husband gets the basic $30 pedi. The $50 spa includes a pick of a mask, a salt scrub, warm towels- the works. My complaints: The guy didn't use a salt scrub at all and was a bit rough with my cuticles. While the massage was longer than if I got a basic pedi, he was hardly paying attention to what he was doing. He also didn't fix the shellac polish, I shouldn't have any on my skin but alas... Pictures attached. He also kept getting up and walking away for 5 minutes at a time which was weird. The towels were cold by the time he took them off my legs! I will give it another go (it's clean and cheaper than some) but it's not a place I'd recommend from my experience today. read more

I enjoy this nail salon. I started going here a few months ago with regularity. I had been here before because it's on my way home and continued to do so after I received the service I did. The same ladies are always in there and they are all very meticulous in their work. All my nails have always looked good when I leave here. And classically I mess my nails up prior to leaving and they always are very easy going about fixing me up before heading out the door. I will keep going back. They have a big screen TV and offer you water as well. They have a variety of price packages. It's competitively priced. Guess I need to ask my family for some gift certificates for the holidays. It takes a lot for me to take time to write a negative review, but on this occasion I simply must spread the word about the most horrific experience I have ever had when paying for a service. The young woman who did my manicure was the most pathetic excuse for a licensed nail technician I have ever encountered. As a senior cosmetologist, I understand and perhaps am more lenient when it comes to the service industry. She started by telling me she'd be with me when she finished buying the tickets she was purchasing on her iPad, but I could pay now to save time... Being in the industry, I tip more than average, I paid $20 for a $12 service. I got a basic manicure - one of the easiest, simplest things right? Wrong. She skipped over half the steps of a basic mani. No cuticle softer, didn't push back cuticles just started pulling them with nippers. She immediately buffed my nails and started polishing. I didn't wash the dust off before she started painting, with NO base coat. There was no filing, no massage, no lotion. No cleaning up the polish on my rough and ragged cuticles... BUT this wasn't the worst part. In the middle of this pathetic service, she set her phone down between my hands, blatantly displaying the dirty texts she was sending her boyfriend while 'manicuring' me. Honestly I could've let it go had she done a decent job on my nails, but being as she was treating me terribly - asking how much money I make as a hair stylist (???), I had to tell her I was very disappointed in what was happening. She proceeded to scream at me that I was a liar, shoving her phone in my face to prove some point. I said I was horrified and beyond uncomfortable and that I wanted her to remove the crap polish job and give me my money back. She proceeded to yell throughout the salon that I was a 'greedy liar'. The owner of the salon was mortified and insisted I stay so she could fix the mess. She was very sweet and apologetic as the technician glared and continued to make nasty comments. The owner, Ann, was very nice and absolutely embarrassed at the pathetic excuse for a manicure her employee did. She saved all of the messy cuticle to show, and reprimand the girl. I felt she should've been terminated for her terrible treatment of a client. While I appreciate the owners attempts at making things right, I will NEVER go back and I make a strong point to tell people about this horrible experience. I have been coming here since we moved to Annapolis about 18 months ago. Tonight I felt compelled to write a review because I had exceptional service! I usually get the nail tech that is first available since I always just walk in...Lee and Ann are excellent and I am always secretly disappointed if it's not one of them. Their gel manis always last at least 2 weeks, but often longer. Tonight, however, my new favorite is the young man who started working there recently (maybe last spring?). I didn't catch his name, but he paid so much attention to detail and made sure everything was just right. I will consider making an appointment to make sure I get him next time!! I've been here a few times, probably 3. It's a convenient location as I live down Bay Ridge, and hate driving out to the mall where I use to go. Most recently, I felt as though the nail tech was new... within 5 seconds she'd cut my finger with the nail drill, and then again cut hers the same way. She seemed to be in a rush... only to get down to the gel polish part, in which she took a very long time. 4 days after I got them done, my index finger had chipped and half the nail lifted and peeled off. I returned, because that should not be what happens - I've been getting gel for years. They inquired who did them - I had no idea their name... I got a vibe that it was such an inconvenience (which I'm sure it was) for someone to return to fix a problem. Though, the options for most people are, give them a chance to make it right, or I'll just go somewhere else. A young girl took the time to fix the nail, and I was on my way. It was until I got home that I realized that she only did one layer of gel, which has enabled my thin nails to bed and be very flexible... had I realized she hadn't done multiple, I would have asked her to - I simply assumed it was general practice. It's been 2 days since I got my index finger fixed... today, day 6 since getting them done... my other index finger has chipped and I can see is lifted - though I'm trying to salvage it. I assume these issues are over the seemingly new staff member, but it's become a real inconvenience to have to go in and get them fixed, and have them continue to peel off. I work in an office setting, I don't do dishes my hand, I don't do anything with my hands other than type - and they're so short they don't touch the keyboard... so it's not possible for it to be an operator error. I think I'll be going back to my old salon near the mall, and just deal with the 10 minute drive, versus 2. I would suggest if you go here, to ensure you've made an appointment with one of the senior staff members who have much experience. Update: Well, the day after I typed up this review, the nail that I had repaired, chipped and peeled. As well as another nail. From the sounds of it, it sounds like my nails just aren't cut out for gel; on the contrary, I've been getting gel for YEARS and have never had this happen. I'm very disappointed. There was not a lot of attention to detail - the water for the foot bath was cold, the attendant cut my foot during the pedi, but the price was reasonable. I asked for a simple gel design and a fill on my acrylic nails. The gel was not applied evenly and you could see chip marks before I even left the salon due to the uneven application. My acrylic was filed down and made so thin it was basically gone. The design varied greatly and inconsistent. Not at all what I would expect from a professional nail artist. I'm always hesitant to try a new nail spot, especially with gel manicures, because that's at least a three week commitment. However, Ann at American Nails takes that worry away--it's always quality, she helps you choose colors if you are like me and can't make a decision, and she takes the time to get to know you and remembers you! I always make an appointment with Ann (she's the owner), but I've also had a pedicure from Van and a few manicures from Cathy when Ann is busy, and they are great as well! I have been going to American nails since I was 11 years old and am now 18. I see Anne everytime becasue she really is there best tech (but have never had a bad experience with any others). Anne does her best to make sure you can come in when you like and I have never been dissapointed. She has worked on my nails for quite sometime as they were very short and brittle and are now long and strong thanks to her! The pedicures could be a little more thourough however. Sometimes it is too short and much more can be done. I would recommend this place to others and have many times before! read more

Did a HORRIBLE job on my nails. Came in yesterday for a fill in. I asked for French. When the woman asked we if the line was okay I told her I wanted it thicker. She said she would do it in the end. She asked me again at the end if it looked good and I told her I wanted it thicker and she ignored me! My lines are all crooked and not even with each other. There is also little dots in my nails. She then charged me $43. I paid $40 for a new full French set!! She charged me $3 for a "trim down". She barely trimmed anything!!!! read more

I live near by and have had my nails done at American Nails 3 times. The service is inconsistent at best. I never leave fully happy with my nails. Today my pedicure looks fine but my nails were filed unevenly, I had to ask the technician to fix them and she was a little snippy. The edges if my nails were rough and I had to file them myself....little things but when you are in the service business, especially in this economy customer service and attention to detail goes a long way. this will be my last visit. read more
